      Hey, he's driving on the wrong side of the road himself, so maybe he shouldn't...
      (grin, duck and run away from a mob of angry British people who are terribly annoyed by comments like mine about which side of the road the the one to drive on) :o)
      Joking aside, I would love to see that video. Maybe not with a studio recorded voice track but original uncensored in-car audio.

      @@mattcrooke8321 Nope, it's irritating to everybody else. Like going clockwise in a roundabout. Or just having the passenger seat on the driver's side. Let's face it, most people drive on the right. :-P (In case it isn't obvious, I'm just kidding. There's no better or worse, it's just what everyone is used to and I understand that it is impossible nowadays to have a country switch sides like they did in Sweden in the 1960s.)
      Side note: I still appreciate that people in Japan drive on the left. Since I drive a Japanese car, the gas cap (or whatever that thing is called in Britain that is used to fill up on petrol) is on the left hand side of the car, which would be the passenger side in Japan. As most cars in continental Europe have to approach the petrol pump with their passenger side. If you can approach the pump from both sides, you usually don't need to wait as long if you fill up on the opposite side. :o)

      Ha ha!!. You are spot on, it really is what everyone is used to for sure. I drive for my job in the UK (buses) so I class myself as a pretty good, and confident driver. Yet when me and the wife came to America in 2015 we picked up the hire car in San Francisco, and drove all over the place over a period of 2 weeks, ending up in Vegas. Even after 2 weeks of driving in that fantastic country of yours, I still didn't feel confident at all being on the other side of the road, and the other side of the car. Ive driven on mainland Europe a couple of times, and although they drive on the same side as you, the roads, roundabouts, traffic signs etc etc are pretty much the same as the uk, just reversed. Yet in the States, practically nothing is the same as the UK. The first time we came across a huge intersection (I wish I could remember where it was) I froze. It was just so huge with 2 and 3 lanes going in every direction. Somehow I ended up being at the front of the queue of traffic too. It was a nightmare lol. On the very last morning on the way back to the airport in Vegas, we left the hotel at about 4am with a 3 hour drive in front of us. In my tired state, I turned right out of the hotel car park, and went straight over to the left hand side of the road!!! Thank god the road was totally empty. I was there for about 10 seconds before my wife said "Matt, havent you noticed something!!"
      You've got me thinking about the gas caps on my cars now (we call them petrol caps or filler caps. so you weren't far off). Both mine and the wifes car are British versions of American cars. Mines a Chrysler 300 and hers is a Chevrolet Captiva. We both love everything thats not a boring Eurobox. Both the filler caps are on the left (passenger side) of the car. Im sure my last car, which was a eurobox, the filler was on the right hand side. Id prefer to have a flip down number place and have it like they used to be!!!

      @@mattcrooke8321 If you have been driving in the US, you haven't been driving in my country. As a matter of fact I'm from a country much closer to yours, I am from Germany. I may just use some American phrases and spelling since I have spent quite some time in the U.S. plus I am working with colleagues over there every day. ;-)
      Every time when I was in the UK, I was glad that we din't need to drive at all or somebody was with me who didn't mind driving. Honestly, I didn't dare to drive there at all. Being on the side of the road that you're not used to can be really weird. Not far from where I live they are remodeling a major road connecting two adjacent cities. Normally it would be the northern lanes for westbound traffic, then some grass and trees as a divider followed by the southern lanes for eastbound traffic. Eastbound traffic now has to take a detour, so westbound traffic can use the southern lanes while the northern lanes are being completely rebuilt. It really felt like driving on the wrong side when I first came though. Maybe even more so since you are used to going in the opposite direction in these lanes.
      On the other hand, driving in the US was not a big deal for me. Sure, the signs look different and there are some rules that are not what we are used to (US: If there is no sign telling you not to do it, you can take a right turn at a red light after stopping if there are no cars near, Germany: You can only do so if there is a sign that allows it), and it takes a while to get a feel for how fast you are driving in miles per hour instead of kilometers, but generally it is more relaxed than what you experience in Germany. And intersections with many lanes is something that you don't see in Germany that often, but where I come from there are some of them. And usually their U.S. counterparts have signs all over the place telling you which lane takes you where. (In my town here in Germany there is a sign about 200 yards before the actual intersection showing you four arrows leading in different directions. However, by the time you see that sign, the road only has three lanes and it is not obvious whether the additional lane starts on either side or one of the three lanes splits up. So it confuses more than it helps.) One thing that helped me a lot when driving in the U.S. is the grid pattern. It makes navigating really easy.
      Confident bus drivers are something I have experienced in the UK already. I once took a bus ride from Dover to Canterbury and back, and in some places I was absolutely sure that the bus will not make it to its destination in one piece because roads looked to narrow or bridges too low. But we arrived safely. ;-)
      Ending up on the wrong side of the road (wrong as in "not the side you are supposed to be on according to local regulations") is something that probably happens more easily if the roads are empty and there no other cars around. I heard stories of Germans driving in the UK, and they said that they never ended up on the wrong side while in city traffic, but when driving along lonely roads in the Highlands they eventually ended up on the wrong side and didn't realize it until a long tome later when suddenly another car appeared in front of them.

    I think a camera that struggles a bit in bad lighting situations might be an asset. If you're saying you couldn't see a pedestrian because the sun was in your eyes, but the camera shows clear video, what is the jury going to think? Same goes for nighttime video. Having a camera that can see in the dark better than you can might be more of a liability than an asset.

    I've found some devices say they support 128gb SD, but they have problems with over 32gb in reality. That's cos all modern SD over 32gb are SDXC using UHS, not the class 10 type cards of SDHC. Formatting in the device doesn't solve it and the default windows format won't either cos it formats exFAT, which isn't always fully supported on devices. The way I get it to work is to get software that can specifically format over 32gb SD as FAT32. For anyone having these type of issues it's worth a try.

    • @nerys71
      @nerys71 6 років тому +3

      you could try formatting NTFS not sure of the camera will read that though. FAT32 should work but you will have file size limitations (which is just fine for a dash cam which will NEVER come close to those file size limitations (4gb per file)

      I think youre spot on. Windows wont format this large card to fat32, but other programs will. And will likely solve the problem.

    I’ve been using dash cams for about 8 years now.. I own 4 of these Aukey dash cams. I’ve had them about a year and never had a problem with them unlike other more expensive cameras I’ve had. I live in Alaska and this camera has never frozen up in extreme cold weather. (It still turned on at -35F!) I believe it’s also one of the better dash cams for night driving use(it’s dark for half of the year here)I’ve given about 10 of these cameras away as gifts since there so good and affordable! Mine have never blacked out like this one has... I only use 32g micro SD cards... in other cameras I’ve had I noticed black outs and corrupted files when using larger capacity micro SD cards.

      @@gailene62 From my experience, go with Samsungs Evo Select card on amazon. The green ones. They are by far my favorite sd cards. Better than the sandisks. They are U3 rated which make them very "fast" (Good for recording HD video). Sandisk also makes a "High Endurance" sd card made for dashcams.....but they are more expensive and my Samsung cards seem to last a long time just fine. Whatever you go with, MAKE SURE it has the U3 rating.
      You could go with a 32gb card. But why not go larger? Memory cards are super cheap now and its better to, at the very least, have a 64gb card. Just in case you needed to see footage from a few days ago and forgot to copy it off of the card. I have two of these Aukey cams and one of the "wedge" aukey cams and I am really happy with them. I run 2 cams-- front and back 24/7 even when my car is parked. Im using a 128gb sd card and I can get about 22-23 hours of recording before it loops over itself.
      Cameras are wired to the battery and I drive everyday so I don't have to worry about draining my battery. Because I run them 24/7, I push these things to the limits.

When I finally got it someone had attempted a lot of work to get it running. The had installed a rather pricey p-mount audio technica cartridge and stylus and there was a brand new platter belt. When I turned it on unfortunately the tonearm wouldn't move. I opened it up and the previous owner had nicely lubricated the tray but they had somehow managed to miss the tiny belt that drives the tonearm. It had gone solid and no longer moved . That's an interesting point about time delay bureacracy, makes me wonder if anybody makes a system like this that will wirelessly connect to a station in your home when you get back, offload the video, and let you store a lot more. Around here it's not that odd to drive more than an hour back and forth to work daily, and 3+ hours total isn't odd either. If you do nothing else that's already eating pretty well into the data horizon. A wifi enabled SD card, if they come that small, could allow a NAS in your home to ingress that video, keep so many hours at maximum quality, then progressively downgrade old video so you don't have to give terabytes of space to this, but you can still retain footage going back tens of weeks

  • @3DJapan

    Looks like a pretty good product over all. For the most part the video footage looked really nice. Almost every day I see someone come flying up a side lane because they know it ends up ahead and they're trying to get past everyone. This one would great for that. One time I wouldn't let a guy do it and he started mashing on his horn like I was the one in the wrong. Haha.

    • @mrb692
      @mrb692 6 років тому +2

      Technically you are. It sounds obvious, but traffic flows best when people use all the road, and that means using the lanes until they end. Plus, a single merge point is far easier to manage than everyone moving over at different points along the preceding half mile of road.

    • @mrb692
      @mrb692 6 років тому

      @remingtonh When a road necks down a lane, people in the ending lane have to get over at some point. It is provably better for that merge to occur at one point; it is smoother and safer and traffic flows /faster/ when compared to merging over a long stretch of road.
      If traffic is that backed up, that the people in the merged lane need to slow, then the road is at it’s carrying capacity anyways. Roads, like pipes, can only flow so much stuff per unit time. Rate=number*speed, so as one goes up, the other goes down. A few cars on the road at a time can flow at the maximum speed, but as more cars get on the road, once that capacity is reached, the average speed of the cars slows and the road is still moving the maximum number of cars per hour it can.

    You might want to use FFMPEG with the concat command. It turns out that I frequently have to join several short clips at ridiculously high resolutions like 4K in order to make them viewable in a news story. Other times they are 848x480 which is fine, or even 1920x1080 which I first resize down to a quarter 960x540. I used to search the command and copy out the line, but I found that writing a short bash script is quite useful. It's a two step process, first taking the sources and copying them into TS files. Then, it's ffmpeg -i "concat:1.ts|2.ts..." with the rest of the params and Bob's your uncle. Of course, you can start with AVI, MP4, MOV, M4V or any of the formats. They should be the same size. Use your favourite search engine "ffmpeg concat" and you'll be all ready to go. You might even chop off the last couple of frames while you're transcoding if you get that glitch.

    • @retrocomputing

    • @vink6163
      @vink6163 6 років тому

      ffmpeg has options to rewrite the timestamps which you'll need to use for certain formats to avoid those corruption issues. Also, you'll have to figure out how many frames to drop from the start or end of each clip if you want to avoid the glitch due to the repeated second or two between clips. Shame there's no way to turn that off for those using decent video editors that don't drop any frames.

It seems kind of silly - something is better than nothing, I think it should warn the user that a clip is corrupted and ask them if they want to continue anyway.

This glitch is really a big deal, in my opinion even a dashcam without a WiFi connection is not suitable if you are not an elder person without a smartphone. If I have seen something weird on the road or if I want to preserve important footage, I just copy it over to my smartphone and have it there. Im 90 minutes per day inside my car (a 45 minutes way to work and back) and even with a 64 GB card that I use the footage dont last longer than 5 to 6 days.

    Excellent video as usual, I bought one of these to compare to my Transcend DP200 and have found it to be just as good and just as reliable.
    I have 3 DP200's (bought off the back of your recommendation) and they've been faultless.
    This one appears to be just as good, and the stripped out features, no WiFi etc doesn't bother me.
    All I want is something to "have my back" in a crash, or to tell my family what "happened" when I am unable to, and a slight glitch in the recording (which I haven't noticed) won't affect the purpose I need it for.
    Compared to the DP200's it's marvellous, some might say even better as it's about 60% the size of the Transcend models.
    Now for the AUDI bashing.
    AUDI = Another Useless Driver Inside
    AUDI = All Undertaking Done Intentionally
    AUDI = Arsehole U Didn't Indicate
    Also I don't understand the Cowcar, how is making a car incredibly un-aerodynamic (thereby *WASTING* more fuel than it already does), a good environmental message?
    At least do it with something electric or better yet a bicycle.
