I'm reading This Woven Kingdom now. I literally yelled out loud about halfway through when a certain character turned out to be um, someone I DID NOT EXPECT OMG. Anyway, I'm refusing to finish it until the next book is released in case it ends on a cliffy.
YAY!! My favorite video of the year!!! I honestly look forward to your yearly wrap ups because you always have the best recommendations! Definitely picking up a few of these ❤

My top books: Charm Offensive by Alison Cochran, Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, Loveless by Alice Oseman, I Must Betray You by Ruta Septys, Home Field Advantage by Dahlia Adler, Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree, Book Lovers by Emily Henry, Anxious People by Fredrick Backman, Babel by RF Kuang, Sunbearer Trials by Aidan Thomas
This is the first video of yours I have watched and I am in love!! I love the diversity in your faves this year, and I so excited to look into these books! Such a refreshing list.
WOW. I think I can officially call you my booktube twin because out of the 17 books on this list, I've read 10 and given them all either 4 or 5 stars. We have such similar taste that I'm probably going to read everything you recommend from this point on! Since we have such similar taste, here's my top 15 (I couldn't narrow it down more!): 1. Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex by Angela Chen - An intensely personal book that had to be my top nonfiction read of the year because it helped me realize I was ace. 2. The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez 3. Babel by R. F. Kuang 4. Kaikeyi by Vaishnavi Patel 5. Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb 6. Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson 7. I wish I could write a list of my top ten, but I ended up being in a reading slump for most of the year😅. Buuut I recently got out of it and I am sooo excited for all the books I'm gonna read this year. And I added some from this video as well. Happy Reading Everyone!!
What an interesting list of books you covered! So glad you included some of your also-rans, including one of my very favorite reads in 2022 - ‘Little Fires Everywhere.’😊
My goal for every year is always 32 books, but I’ve never hit it before. This year, I didn’t read for about 3 months straight because my dad passed and any time I saw the words “death” or “father” in a book (which was any book I picked up), I instantly had to put it back down. I also started working full time this year after graduating, which was a huge transition for me reading-wise as well. I started December with having read 20 books for the year, and I am now at 31 books. I have one graphic novel to read tonight and I’ll have hit my goal, even with a few months hiatus. Unfortunately, I found that my reading tastes have changed a lot this year and I’m still trying to figure out what I actually enjoy in books, so I didn’t have a lot of favorites this year, but my top 5 of the year are: 1. The Hop by Diana Clarke 2. I Am the Ghost in Your House by Maria Romasco Moore 3. Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White 4. Sadie by Courtney Summers 5. She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quidlen I’m planning for Babel to be my first read of 2023 because I have super high hopes and I want to start off the new reading year with a good start, since I’m bumping up my goal to 40.
Top 10 for 22: 1) kingdom of the feared by Kerri Manscialco 2) lease on love by Falon ballard 3) remarkably bright creatures by Shelby van pelt 4) belladonna by Adalynn Grace 5) One percent of you by Michelle Gross 6) Love radio by Ebony Ladelle 7) The Ex talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon 8) Amari and the great escape by BK Borrison 9) The first to die at the end by Adam Silvera 10) Kiss her once for me by Alison Cochurn
I read 19 books this year. Hoping to read one more before the year ends. My favourite books this year was Anxious People by Fredrick Backman and the Raybearer Duology by Jordan Ifueko.
The Six Cranes sounds interesting! And since you mentioned its fairytale-like vibes it may interest you to know it is indeed based on a Grimm's Fairytale called the Six Swans. I really enjoy fairytale retellings and like to see which things get changed and how some elements get adapted into the setting of the retelling.
Will definitely be checking out some of these books this year. My favorite read of the year was The Christie Affair! Can't wait for you to read it too - it is not what you'd expect it to be, but in the best way.
I was waiting to see kaikeyi on your list, and I had a feeling it would be one of your top reads! Also everyone has been raving about Babel, I really need to read it!!
I read Kaikeyi. I wasn’t familiar with the mythology behind it but regardless I really enjoyed. It was fascinating to read about a women who had so much againist her (family, society, religion) and despite all that accomplished so much.
This is an amazing list of favorites! So many of these have been on my radar for a while now but hearing and feeling your enthusiasm for each one is motivating me to read some sooner than I planned! Here’s to a new year full of amazing reads!☺️
yeah, the top 2 were definitely not surprising😂, thank you for the yearly wrap up and recs....I picked up Babel bcoz of you and I'll never be able to thank you for it lol❤
My favorites of the year: 1. Crooked Kingdom 2. Ophelia After All 3. We Are Not Free 4. Hani and Ishu's Guide To Fake Dating 5. And Then There Were None
YESSS i loved The City We Became so freaking much!! Looking forward to the sequel and also All My Rage!! Sabaa Tahir is hosting an author event near me in a few months and I am SO PUMPED My favorite book of the year and also new #1 favorite book of all time was Babel also!! Such a masterpiece, every time I think about it I'm blown away again.
I'd say the author of Six Crimson Cranes got their idea from Juliet Marillier's, Daughter of The Forest. It sounds very much the same. The main character's step mum turns her brothers into swans and if she speaks they stay a swan forever. She has a limited time to break the curse and has a task she needs to complete if she wants her brothers back. Definitely worth reading her books!!
my top in 2022: 1. one hundred years of solitude by gabriel garcia marquez 2. anne of green gables by l m montgomery 3. the blood spell by c j redwin 4. letters to a young poet by rilke 5. i'm glad my mom died by jennette mccurdy 6. norwegian wood by haruki murakami 7. everything is figureoutable by marie forleo 8. atomic habits by james clear 9. secrets of divine love by a helwa
I was literally so confused after reading ‘ I’m glad my mom died’ and seeing people call it hilarious or funny ?? it’s an amazing read but quite the tragedy in a way
the way jeanette tells the story is funny. Like, she has a lot of dark humor going on and tries to make the story a little lighter for the readers. Yes, the topics are awful, but she tries to put comedy in it
Without humor, we would never survive our traumas. The way Jeanette tells her story is through humor and she’s never been shy about saying that. It’s a book dealing with darkness and it can also hold space for the humor.
This is such a wonderful list of books! I still want to read DISORIENTATION! I have BABEL, but I haven’t read it yet. Looking forward to starting 2023 with BABEL, BLOODMARKED (which I’m reading, but not finished yet), and a few others. I’m on my 80th book right now and hope to finish by the 31st. 🥰 Favorite books of 2022 (not ranked in order except for the 1st one): 1. ONE FOR ALL by Lillie Lainoff 2. IN THE DREAM HOUSE by Carmen Maria Machado 3. THE BONE SPINDLE by Leslie Vedder 4. HOTEL MAGNIFIQUE by Emily J. Taylor 5. THE HACIENDA by Isabel Canas 6. BELLADONNA by Adalyn Grace 7. YOU, ME AND OUR HEARTSTRINGS by Melissa See 2. THE SUMMER OF BITTER AND SWEET by Jen Ferguson 3. WHITE HORSE by Erika T. Wurth 4. SOMETHING NEW UNDER THE SUN by Alexandra Kleeman 5. They never learn by Layne Fargo 6. The cactus by Sarah Haywood 7. The charm offensive by allison Cochrane 8. The heart principle by helen Huang 9. Iron widow 10. A king of battle and blood by scarlett st claire
Babel is in my top 3 as well. A couple of my other favorites were The Weight of Blood by Tiffany D. Jackson (even though I'm not normally a horror reader) and Amari and The Night Brothers by BB Alston. Your list has some that I need to add to my TBR. Happy New Year!
My Top Ten of 2022 in no particular order: We Spread by Iain Reid The Cat Who Saved Books by Sosuke Natsukawa Death In Her Hands by Ottessa Moshfegh A Minor Chorus by Billy Ray Belcourt Sea Of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel Scarborough by Catherine Hernandez Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley Lapvona by Ottessa Moshfegh When We Lost Our Heads by Heather O'Neiil Young Mungo by Douglas Stuart
I was very quick to subscribe.. your personality really translates through your content 😊 Excited to get back on my reading journey. Ty for your recommendations!
I read All My Rage in January and loved it. Read Babel earlier this month and loved it. Now I'm reading Kaikeyi and am loving it. (And I've enjoyed all the others you mentioned that I had already read) So I guess I'm gonna have to add the rest of your favs to my TBR! 🤣🤩
I read arcs of Babel and Kaikeyi and loved them both so much!!! Bought the finished copies after so I can keep and read them again and again. The City We Became is another one I love because how did NK Jemisin embody the boroughs so well?? HOW?? Great list!!
Mauler and Questus by english writer Shawn Williamson. Mauler is indicated by english writer, historian, cinema director Andrew Sinclair. He compares Mauler with White Fang by Jack London.
My favorite kind of video!! Definitely going to read a couple of these going into the new year. Also, I love your bookshelves! Where do you get yours from?
Just about to start Kaikeyi! My top 5 books of the year 1 Kushiels Dart 2 The death of Vivek Orji 3 The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo 4 The invisible life of Addie Larue 5 Parable of the sower
I love your presentation of these books! I'm looking forward to reading from your mentions as well as top 10's. They all sound wonderful, but if I had to choose: Mentions: When we Left Cuba Seven Days in June Top 10 Favorites: An American Marriage I'm Glad My Mom Dies All My Rage Know My Name Pachinko Babel Kaikey Thank you!
My Top 10 of 2022: 1. The Boys by Hafner 2. The Displacements by Holsinger 3. The Great Man Theory by Wayne 4. You're Invited by Jayatissa 5. Finding me by Davis (nf, memoir) 6. The Mad Girls of New York by Rodale 7. Aurora by Koepp 8. Acceptance by Nietfeld (nf, memoir) 9. Blood Sugar by Rothchild 10. The Woman In The Library by Gentill
I have 0 interest in mythical retellings and NEVER read them. but i picked up Kaikeyi and absolutely loved it. it was definitely one of the best books i have read this year.
I’m so interested in Kaikeyi now! I’ve put it on my TBR for 2023. I really recommend Seven Moons of Maali Almeida. It was the book that took me most by surprise this year and it’s SO different. It’s a fantastical look at the afterlife of a murdered gay photojournalist during the Sri Lankan civil war. It’s emotional, educational (for me) and just wonderfully weird in its expression. It won the Booker Prize for 2022.
I have been wanting to read Babel but the audiobook is so so long and it’s literally not available anywhere for me on hard copy. But this really makes me want to just buy it!!!
Please consider reading, Coop's Corner Collection Inspirational Stories and Poems 🤓 There is a book 📚 trailer 🎥 within this platform. Take care 📖 Wm Cooper
Is it just me or does "Six Crimson Cranes" sound like "The Daughter of The Forest"? Anyone who have read both please say if it's worth to pick up the first book mentioned!
@@changnesia1044 Soooo... As promised, I've read "Six Crimson Cranes". Here is my opinion: 1) I liked it less than "The Daughter of The Forest", which was far more philosophical and I would say darker. "Six Crimson" was rather superficial; 2) in "Six Crimson" the focus lies on the Chinese folclore. In other words, if are interested in it, you could read the book.
I have six crimson cranes on my tbr and hearing that there are multiple love interests kinda makes me nervous to read it, i’m not a big fan of multiple interests in a book. After reading so many YA’s i have become really tired of those annoying love triangles. I hope this book is different.
Love this video and your amazing channel but my wallet is crying after watching it please stay safe and enjoy your reading love your family friend and Aussie friend John ❤❤❤

I have 0 interest in mythical retellings and NEVER read them. but i picked up Kaikeyi and absolutely loved it. it was definitely one of the best books i have read this year.
AH YESS I'M SO GLAD TO HEAR THAT ❤️❤️
I’m so interested in Kaikeyi now!
Kaikeyi is really good
Ooo yes I have that book on my list to read this year!!
Whats the name of your hair color its so pretty!!
So many good ones! I am filming my best books video today but spoiler- Pachinko is also in my top three!
Six crimson cranes sounds so much like the Daughter of the forest by Juliet Marillier but the brothers turn into swans.
i´ve watched Little Fires Everywhere. A one season serie.
kaikeyi is one that i will read. I never heard of the book even though i am an avid reader of mythological fiction (amish tripathi is my heart).
I have been wanting to read Babel but the audiobook is so so long and it’s literally not available anywhere for me on hard copy. But this really makes me want to just buy it!!!
I love Jennette’s book & babel
six crimson cranes...what a stunning book cover! sheesh!
I read Kaikeyi because of you💗 and loved it🍁
When We Left Cuba 🤍🤍🤍
Not sure if you knew there is a mini series based on Pachinko- it’s great!
I couldn't get through Circe but I loved KaiKeyi!
Crimson Cranes sounds like a retelling of The Wild Swans which is indeed a fairy tale
Six crimson cranes love it
OMG HOW ARE YOU SO BEAUTIFULLL ;_;
Pachinko has a show out too!!!
I know!! I need to watch it!!
Have you seen the TV Adaptation of ‘Little Fires Everywhere’?
I've seen a few episodes! I still need to finish!
I have to say I laughed when you said "everyone and their mom loved this" and held up I'm Glad My Mom Died 💀💀💀

Is it just me or does "Six Crimson Cranes" sound like "The Daughter of The Forest"? Anyone who have read both please say if it's worth to pick up the first book mentioned!
Was JUST thinking the same thing.
@@changnesia1044 I bought the book some weeks ago, will start reading it in May. I'll tell you my opinion whe I'm done.
@@irabubu3868 That book is amazing. Daughter of the forest I mean
I would say the second one isn't a big one and more of a great character than a love interest! There is really only one main romance going on!
Books mentioned:
In my dreams i hold a knife
When we left cuba
Books in this video for my reference:
Six crimson cranes
Disorientation
