12:40 ... "Oh Oops Uh-oh" ... I just laughed myself into tears with that! great video ... but even better is the friendship it shows ... I love the lengths people will go to just to have a little fun ... I couldn't help remembering the look on your face when Adam called time and beat you .. it was funny as hell at first and twice as funny once I knew he wasn't supposed to have a chance at finishing ... thank you for all the videos and for sharing so much with us
I completely agree with niko... I loved the quiet calm of the shop. Just the sound of work. I REALLY had a ball watching this. Beautiful work, with a surprise twist. Too cool.
An absolute stroke of genius. I saw it break on the bash video but I did not catch on to the joke until just now. Youth and skill are no match for age and treachery. Keep on keeping on.
Tom, agree regarding not messing with old guys - However, 'Revenge is a dish better served cold', Adam!!!!!!!!!!! Superb work Tom and I feel the reconstructed version should be a gift for the big chap, I am am sure he would cherish it? Kindest regards. Joe.
Tom...by far and away...one of the better pranks you've devised, still doesn't beat the exploding foam box or the band saw hand...maybe a compilation of all your nasty's would be in order for all of us to enjoy...terrific work. !!!
I appreciate this chuck key so much. It is genius to say the least. I would expect nothing less from you. Your videos are one of the highlights of my week.
Dale, if you are going to quote... get it right. Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive. -Sir Walter Scott. I thought it was a great prank... especially when it backfired.
I have just just dipped my finger in petrol for a few hours a night for the past 25 years and now it is sufficiently hard enough to tighten down a lathe chuck. No key needed and because it is attached to my body, I can never forget it in the chuck. I have become pretty proud of my square ended finger, it has become quite the talking point. Nice engineering buddy
Outstanding Tom, Wish I had thought of it. I love your video's, and always learn something. I have both of your books, and have thoroughly enjoyed them. Thanks for all you do. Gary, An Old Guy (73) in North West Arkansas
Brilliant practical joke! You totally hooked me! I was really sad for the fake builder guy when Adam broke his pride-and-joy project in front of everyone. You are a devious SOB!!! LOL
"Old age and treachery beats youth and enthusiasm." One of my employers quite candidly stated that he hired recent retirees for their knowledge, and new college graduates to do the legwork. People in both categories seemed to be quite happy with the arrangement.
Tom brilliant watched the video and i am sure everyone enjoyed it as well as my self . Thank you again for a great time . enjoy your channel very much .
Tom, great job on the 4 jaw apparatus and chuck key!! The engineering and thought that went into these projects, WOW. Only sly old machinist would spend days building a precision breakaway chuck key as a prank! Love your work and videos. The laugh at the end of the video was devious!! LOL
Just shows what one can do with a year of thought about getting even. Great build Tom. Fantastic looking chuck key. Needs to be on Ripley's believe it or not show. Don't let investigator Dale see this, ha ha. Again great work. Waiting for next year.
Wile E. Coyote vs Sheepdog Sam. 😂 Tom, that was a great prank. I was sure you would do something to knock Adam off his game a bit. I couldn't resist getting in on the "pre game hype" during your King maker build. That was really funny. Then Adam throws down a 35 second time against you. Absolutely amazing. Dale starting the "conspiracy" theory? Icing on the cake. All in good fun. Thanks, John
Hi M E, Yeah I cracked myself up a few times thinking about it. Keeping a straight face at the bash was the hard part. Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Tom
Something told me not to mess with that chuck key or the side Adam won the match with you! Oh the thoughts in my head when I followed your drop the key move! LOL Nice plot and build, a little tiny bit less pin strength and putting out more personal pressure, would of created the snap at the time you wanted, but it just played out a couple rounds! LOL ;{)-------
Hi Keith, I really like the actual outcome. The "Cheater" got his ass whipped and the sleeper from back east took the prize fair and square. Our buddy Adam will be sharpening his knives all year for us. Thanks for stopping by. All the best, Tom
Tom has been very busy in his spare time scheming out his plan to teach those east coast utes the wisdom of the west coast sages...grasshopper VS the master....love it!!!
Your " Don't mess with old guys " brings to mind another saying that I'm fond of and use. "Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill ". Thumbs up for the Silver Fox team .
That ball peen hammer at 23:44 is an intriguing tool. The head's a bit longer than usual, but the handle is what really caught my eye. The full diameter handle tapering down to a slender end seems like it ought to give you a nice feel for what you're hitting. I like little ball peen hammers like that, but modern ones tend to have grips that are too slender to hold.
Tom, great prank, superbly executed. I fell for it too. I actually felt bad for the "viewer " who made it! Then Keith came along and stole the show! Great fun. Hope to join you all next year.
All good, clean fun, Tom. Reminds me of some "old guys" I've known. Don't always say much (well, ok, that part is different), but they can sure let you have it when/where you least expect it.
Poor Adam, a perfect straight guy for you. He is so nice to every one and so proud to be your friend that I think he is honored to be the object of your jokes.
That is so dam great I fell out me chair when you revealed the joke , you put some great effort into the sabotage , you are a unique character I love it
Hi mate. I can't believe that Adam gave that back to you. You would have had a hard job pricing that from even my cold fingers. If I promise you not to challenge you to a duel on the four jaws, could you make me one of those. I love the flutes and the general attention to detail, it is just too beautiful to use. It almost looks Edwardian. I like the silent manufacture of that devious device. Total silence and secrecy, your regular Manhattan project if you will. However enough playing now, time to get cracking on Ms L 's Etching press.
"Oh, what a tangled web we weave. When first we practice to deceive"! Tom, What a good sport you are in the "King Maker" competition. Oh yes the lengths you will go to get Adam. What good friends do for each other HA. Excellent little tricky T-Handle. Thanks for the video.
Apart from the joke, that key is beautiful and has a lot of engineering involved. A lesson all in itself. But the video does not include the paper work on calculations as said. Your work is inspiring Tom
Re-engineer with a spring and ball detent. It will "test good" in the hand, but fail under higher torque. I may do this myself and calibrate to prevent someone over tightening my chuck in the pursuit of true 0.
That's a very well engineered fail point. When I saw the BarZ video, I had assumed you soft soldered the square onto the wrench. But that would be just too low tech. LOL. Excellent prank. Loved the evil little chuckle at the end. :)
Wow, didn't see that coming when you handed Adam the key. You had me fooled! :-D Was thinking to myself when I saw this video that it sure is a nice prank IF it was you who made the key, and sure enough! Very cool prank and a superb chuck key. Too bad it didn't break when you faced Adam. Thanks!
Beware the OX bearing gifts. I was a little disappointed you weren't holding it aloft and cackling like Renfield at the end of the video. Nice work and a great prank! ;)
it's interesting that he didn't snap it during your competition. I think you were planning on forces being used that just weren't necessicary since the piece wasn't going to be turned
Probably a good thing we have starter motors on trucks now - I can just imagine poor Adam getting a "breakaway" starting handle as a gift from "a subscriber". Youm Sir, are a devious underhanded rat! :)
Thanks for showing the design. On the practical side, with the right pins it will make it easier to change the working end if it gets boogered up or if you want to change it to use on a different chuck. It might also be a practical design for Mr. Pete's high school classes if they have a problem with students over tightening chucks and breaking off jaws...put in the right pins to make the wrench break first.
I think you had everyone who was there. I remember you reading the letter and it all sounded totally believable. Old age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill.........
Ladies and gentlemen, here we have a genius, an evil genius, but a genius. Superb and amazing craftmanship, Tom, beside the prank, the making of the chuck key is wonderful. But I think next year Adam will come protected against pranks anyway...aahahah. I think he will carry his own chuck key. Your only and last hope is to give him an oval blank with a lot of run out to slow him down ahahahah
Beautiful! Now time to produce your own line of custom chuck keys and more importantly, "safety" tap handles. Adjust breaking-point torque more or less to the tap/handle size, with a set of replacement pins. BTW - nice hammer :)
This is gret! Greit work on the machining and the result looks amazing. not to mention that the prank is hilarious :P Is there a video of him using it for the first time?
Hi Alex, Yes Kieth Fenner posted a great video of the key being used. Stan over at Bar Z industrial also has a video showing it. Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Tom
It looks like you can really measure a friendship by the amount of effort you'll put in to a prank.
nice
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Nice build beautiful Chuck key and I enjoyed the letter and box thanks Tom fun seeing you at the bash
12:40 ... "Oh Oops Uh-oh" ... I just laughed myself into tears with that! great video ... but even better is the friendship it shows ... 12:25 ... oops
The "shear" audacity of your plan! Love it Tom! Your reading of the letter was genius. Thanks for the fun.
"Adon"😂😂😂😂
Beautiful design Tom and most excellent execution!
ATB?
Tom, agree regarding not messing with old guys - However, 'Revenge is a dish better served cold', Adam!!!!!!!!!!! Superb work Tom and I feel the reconstructed version should be a gift for the big chap, I am am sure he would cherish it? Kindest regards. Joe.

All jokes aside, that's a really nice looking chuck key!
Absolutely brilliant Tom. It was THEE highlight of the bash.
I thought I t was a great part of the bash too. I loved the fact it didn't "break" during Tom's round. LoL
Maybe Tom to be fair loaded very strong pins to be fair and the joke is enjoyed in the aftermath.
I appreciate this chuck key so much. It is genius to say the least. I would expect nothing less from you. Your videos are one of the highlights of my week.
Hi Bob,
Thanks for the nice comment.
Cheers,
Tom
A very clever and devious chuck key..... Nice work Tom.
What a tangled web we weave, when we practice to deceive. Your going down for this one tom. :-)
when you set out for revenge, dig 2 graves
Dale, if you are going to quote... get it right.
Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive. -Sir Walter Scott.
I thought it was a great prank... especially when it backfired.
Love the amount of time and effort you put into this. A good prank is definitely worth it.
Nifty little bugger. Nice work, Tom. Very well built.

Man, you really went all out! What a beautiful design. Great job. A piece of art.
Tom brilliant watched the video and i am sure everyone enjoyed it as well as my self . Thank you again for a great time . enjoy your channel very much .
that's one of the slickest things I've ever seen and on the plus side you wound up with a very nice chuck key, good stuff Tom
I can only second what most have said, beautiful work, well engineered, and devious. Love it.
That is a sweet looking chuck key! Fun stuff Tom! Thanks for al you do, Gary
I said to the apprentice at work the other day "Old age and treachery beats youth and beauty everytime" , as always a good video, well done Tom, Mick.
Tom, you are one devious man. I can't wait to see what Adam does in return! I'm sure his subscribers are offering ideas as we speak....
Vary devious. the amount of work that you are willing to do to prank a friend, shows the commitment to the friendship. Just awesome and damn funny.
Gorgeous work, brilliant design, awesome prank.
Hi Logical,
Thanks for the comment.
Cheers,
Tom
Great video followup, lovely to see the machining and set ups you used. Great chuck key design.
Tom, great job on the 4 jaw apparatus and chuck key!! The engineering and thought that went into these projects, WOW. Only sly old machinist would spend days building a precision breakaway chuck key as a prank! Love your work and videos. The laugh at the end of the video was devious!! LOL
Tom that was awesome. The clips at the end were great, I always learn from your setups.
That is one sweet t-handle! You just can't help yourself. It's in your blood to perfect everything you make Tom!
Brilliant, Tom! Simply brilliant!
Just shows what one can do with a year of thought about getting even. Great build Tom. Fantastic looking chuck key. Needs to be on Ripley's believe it or not show. Don't let investigator Dale see this, ha ha. Again great work. Waiting for next year.

All in good fun.
Thanks,

very nicely done Tom
An extremely well thought out prank Tom... and excellent execution too.
Such dedication and hard work for a very good and carefully planned prank. You're a genius. An evil genius. I like it :)
I can see you laying in bed giggling before you went to sleep. You are the master. Outstanding.
Hi M E,
Yeah I cracked myself up a few times thinking about it. Keeping a straight face at the bash was the hard part. Thanks for the comment.
Cheers,

Man, that is truly a sweet piece of engineering & tool work. It belongs on a plaque on Adam's wall. ... or a copy of same.....
Tom has been very busy in his spare time scheming out his plan to teach those east coast utes the wisdom of the west coast sages...grasshopper VS the master....love it!!!
awesome prank Tom i still have a chuckle when it broke and you fessed up to Adam keep up the great work
Your " Don't mess with old guys " brings to mind another saying that I'm fond of and use.
"Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill ". Thumbs up for the Silver Fox team .
Hi Fred,
Well I have to use the faculties that still work for me. Can't go toe to toe with Adam from my walker. Thanks for the comment.
Cheers,
Tom
I think the "heh heh heh" at 25:42 says it all, Tom.
The engineering that went into this was impressive but I think the most ingenious part of this build was the fan mail that came with it, haha
Best looken chuck key I've ever seen! Skillfully devious ! I was thinking.
Loved the little self-satisfied chuckle at the end... :)
I think you were a great sport on the chuck competition, well done
This may be some of your best work. Beautiful chuck key. Beautiful idea! Lol 😂

Keith really made it happen. The outcome could not have been better. Thanks for the comment.

Pure gold Tom, I had a grin on my face the whole video, entertainment hell yeah & all in good fun thank you just made my Saturday 👍
That was a very sinister laugh there Tom good clean fun loved the look on Adam's face when it gave way
Some of your nicest work!
I really like how awesome the key was. So tight and proper.
All good, clean fun, Tom. Reminds me of some "old guys" I've known. Don't always say much (well, ok, that part is different), but they can sure let you have it when/where you least expect it.
Artistry in conception and execution.
Now I have to build such a beautiful Chuck key for the Graziano (with out the shear pins.;-))
This was my favorite channel! The Joker, plz come back!!!
Poor Adam, a perfect straight guy for you. He is so nice to every one and so proud to be your friend that I think he is honored to be the object of your jokes.
That is so dam great I fell out me chair when you revealed the joke , you put some great effort into the sabotage , you are a unique character I love it
( my chair ) dam spell check
I like how much effort was put into this prank.
What are friend's for, Huh!! Beautiful work on the chuck key by the way.....
Youth and enthusiasm will never beat age and cunning
Cheers Eric
Thats Awesome . nice work Tom.

That's a very well engineered fail point. When I saw the BarZ video, I had assumed you soft soldered the square onto the wrench. But that would be just too low tech. LOL. Excellent prank. Loved the evil little chuckle at the end. :)
That is the most elegant practical joke I've ever seen.

Amazing, the quiet, efficient build was like watching Myfordboy. Genius.
Hi John,
Thanks for the comment.

That some tricky stuff for an "old guy" hahaha
Awesome job on the chuck key the bronze looks sweet.
Hi Mr,
Thanks for the comment.
Cheers,
Tom
LOL brilliant Tom.
Old age and treachery beats youth and enthusiasm.
Regards,
Duck
even when you're mischievous you do awesome work.
Tom" you've forgotten more than I will ever know. First class work just beautiful.
Tom, are you going to post the prints of that so we might make one ourselves - but a real one that won't break. Thanks
Very clever, and funny Tom!
I love it! Nice work, Tom...
Probably a good thing we have starter motors on trucks now - I can just imagine poor Adam getting a "breakaway" starting handle as a gift from "a subscriber". Youm Sir, are a devious underhanded rat! :)
Absolutely brilliant. Deviantly so, but brilliant nonetheless. Wish I could have been there.
Beautiful design and an awesome prank.
Funny! I am sure Adam took it all in stride. LOL!
All the best!
Mike
Greetings from Denmark!
That was the coolest and most well thought out prank I have ever seen. I would love to have a "friend" like you :-)

wow first comment! fiendishly clever, and nicely made. i figured the trick early on, but nice to see how it went together. A+ work
Nicely made!!!
Diabolical! New found respect from another old guy.
I think you had everyone who was there. I remember you reading the letter and it all sounded totally believable. Old age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill.........
