I am about 5,9 (176 cm) and I have been to Amsterdam, Den Hague, and Haarlem. I felt so puny walking by these giants. Definitely genetics are a big role as you mentioned. Also, I consume lots of dairy (it's a staple in Bulgarian cuisine) and it has likely had zero impact on my growth.
there's no giant impact with that diary consumptions, it's just maximizing your genetic height offers, then your descendants will continue it until they finally grow lot taller, that's how netherlands doing, ain't no way you can be higher by only consuming a tons of dairy everyday and overtake your friends who having taller genes than yours
Actually the Dutch were the shortest in the world at some point. Usually native Indians, Africans and some parts of Asia are meant to be taller if colonialism were not involved. For example, during the mesolithic era South Asian averaged 6ft. There is data on this if u are wondering. But bc of colonial rule, forced famine and non-violent rebellions from our side we grew shorter.

@@rikiyaaragaki Its not about CaucAsIaN genes mate. They do not make you tall. If u are wondering people from some parts of Tibet are very tall. Like average 6ft especially from Kham village. It's mainly about environmental factors. Infact, the Caucasians that emigrated there were most likely short. We were taller than the greeks are some point. They even have accounts of the Greeks coming over to Kerala - my state (the state there the Western media calls short and black) and saying that we were much taller than the average Greek. Most of my family members are short except for me and my cousins. It is pretty common to see a 5ft6 Indian dad having a 5ft10+ son in the west - especially if they are 2nd generation. But being tall is pretty overrated tbh.
I'm 6'5" and here in America (where I was born and raised) it is rare for me to meet a man taller than me and rarer for me to meet a woman taller than me. When I was in Amsterdam in 2010 I was seeing multiple men every single day taller than me and I saw at least one woman taller than me. Yes, the Dutch are very tall. It was quite an experience for me.
@@-Ice_Cold- I guess you aren't american, but people here travel by car mostly. If I stop by a store I might see one or two people taller than me and then go home. Public transportation isn't common here, people mostly travel via car.
I've done the exact opposite, I lived in the UK for 4 years, at 186/6'1 I was considered quite tall there, whereas in Utrecht (my home city, as it happens) I'm extremely average.

I talked to biologists about it and they said that it is a combination of mostly nutrition, vaccination (and other ways of preventing children from falling ill) and also the strict regime of sleeping. Dutch parents are taught that children should sleep enough and keep a strict regime. This gives the body to use the stored energy for growth of the body and brain. Tall men are regarded as more attractive in most Western cultures so this selection could have happened in all Western cultures. Considering the diet: the Maasai people in Africa are also extremely tall. The Maasai diet consists of raw meat, blood, raw milk, honey. So I think your conclusion that it is natural selection is not in accordance to what scientists say.
Yeah sleep is fundamental. I went to sleep late during my entire childhood, didn't eat much and didn't do intense physical activity and it stunted my growth very heavily - I'm missing 4 to 6 inches of height compared to every other man in my family.

Not only that these guys are buff as hell. No tubbies, everyone of them is built like Frank Bruno in his prime. Ethnic Dutch originated in the Holland region via the founder effect. So when they diverged from Proto Germanic populations they were already tall to begin with. The average Dutch person can have up to a quarter Scandinavian ancestry.
My theory is dutch men also prefer tall women. Not taller than them, but tall. The mother's genes play a much bigger role than it was initially thought. If you haven't noticed, children who have tall fathers and short mothers are more often than not...short. Moral of the story, if you want tall kids, you might wanna pay attention to your wife's height too. Probably a combination of both general quality of life (including nutrition) and genetics. I'm not native Dutch, but born and raised here, and there's a significant height difference between my relatives that were also raised here and the ones that were raised elsewhere.
I agree, I doubt it's the food. It's probably because there is a higher preference for tall height in the Netherlands than most countries. As a 6'4 man living in the Netherlands, I doubt you are actually 6'4. Average Dutch male is 6'0 / 6'1, so a real 6'4 would still be considered tall even there. Yes, it can vary with location, but most of the places I've been to in the Netherlands seem to have the average at 6'1, making 6'4 a 1 standard deviation from the mean, which is tall. I’m 6’1 and I used to think I was tall and was considered tall, but recently going on dates I’ve had girls act like I was short, which seems baffling to me. (I’m from the UK), I don’t know how guys under 6ft stand a chance. Also younger dudes seem to be getting a lot taller.
I'm 5'10 and from the Netherlands and can tell you that height really is not as big of a deal with girls as people tend to think. I am still taller than the majority of girls here.
Netherlands men average height is 6'0" or maybe 5'.11.75" to be exact. Definitely not 6'1". Could be a bit more than 6'0" barefoot in some regions but the average is 6'0". Still, insane because at 6'2", or even 6'3", since that's only about 3 inches above average, you'll only feel tallish. Also meaning 6'3" isn't uncommon at all (tit's the equivalent a 6'0" man in the North America) and that you'll need to be 6'4"+ to feel tall 😳That also wouldn't even be standout tall. I think 6-7 inches above average in any county is "standout" tall. So you'd have to be at least 6'6" or 6'7" for people to look at you and say, Yeah, he's tall.". In Asian countries, 6'6"/6'7" is a giant and you'll get people wanting a picture with you kind of tall.
I have been around the world and I can say exception of very few countries, people around 6'7" do get picture taken. I think up to 6'5", people's face look normal. Around 6'7" the cheekbones and the jaw lines start to look like how we picture giants. So they feel even larger, hope that makes sense.

Nobody is obese, though. We all look like we weigh 10kg less than our real weight
The real reason Dutch people are so tall is simple. Selective breeding women simply chose taller men and that continued down the lineage so the smaller men weren’t able to get partners so they did not have kids leading the taller men to be the ones still there
Or the genes in the part of Europe where the Netherlands are is just made for giants because here in nrw,Germany we are the biggest people in Germany and it’s right next to the Netherlands Humans adapt to different areas and that’s only possible by changing genes that’s also why different people even exist
The idea that it is natural selection i.e. women having a preference for taller men is just absurd. In the mid 19th Century the average Dutch man was 5"3 and in the grand scheme of evolutionary biology there has not been enough time for height selection to have a significant impact on the populations' genetics in just 150 years. Also, women being economically liberated to the point they have the freedom to be selective about their partners physical traits is something that has only begun to occur in the last few decades. It is down to diet, lifestyle, climate and socio-economic conditions.
Other way around. The dutch men don't like short women. Humans get taller if the women are taller. Very short women and tall men normally have short kids. Same height couples, couples were the woman is taller then the man and tall couples in general have taller kids. So many short dudes with tall dads but are short due to their mothers. If we want taller people it is short women that need to be excluded from the bloodline not short men. Remember the Y chromosome doesnt carry as mu h dna as the X.

Then would this also correlate with higher IQ scores? Or is that just a tall tale
Yeah sleep is fundamental. I went to sleep late during my entire childhood, didn't eat much and didn't do intense physical activity and it stunted my growth very heavily - I'm missing 4 to 6 inches of height compared to every other man in my family.

Also to consider that 25% of the population is a migrant… almost 50% in some citys. So maybe he is still right
@@nlluke5207 Bro I said "tits equivalent" instead of "its" and no one said anything 😐😭
I have been around the world and I can say exception of very few countries, people around 6'7" do get picture taken. I think up to 6'5", people's face look normal. Around 6'7" the cheekbones and the jaw lines start to look like how we picture giants. So they feel even larger, hope that makes sense.
Maybe netherlands men is 6'0, BUT I think the average 21 male is 6'2
Used to think 5’11 1/2” barefoot was going to be tall while growing up.. that’s what I am right not and it’s damn not a big deal at all…⬆️
I live in the Netherlands, im 6'6 I stick out for sure also pretty big gym guy. The question at the beginning is so relatable. Hows the weather up there, do you play basketball, you should play rugby. Thing is I actually never liked dairy products, some chees but thats ito i agree with your disagreement
how fast are you on 100m dash? I'm smaller (6ft 4 235 lbs) but I did 10.8s before turning 30. Now I aveage 11.3 seconds.
You should try visiting the Croatia and Montenegro coast (and mountains). Although the average Dutch person may be a bit taller (imo its a tie), the people down in the area I've mentioned are beasts. I'm from the region and am 191cm (6ft3 cca), weigh 95kg and slim, considered average-a bit above average. Most of my friends are around the same, some 195,but everybody is just naturally strong as hell. So, tall like the Dutch but heavier/more dense body
Црна Гора,Херцеговина,Далмација Крајина, то су из мог искуства највиши људи
How common you can see local teenagers are 200 cm or taller in your region? 1 in 10? 1 in 20? 1 in 30?
@@alucardrick7016In parts of Serbia and Montenegro it’s very common. 200+ in every class
@@alucardrick7016 in my region, above 200cm 1 in 50 maybe. But between 190 and 200cm, around 7 out of 10
Edit: for context, out of the 8 guys that I regularly hang out with, nobody is under 190 or over 197. Also, I'm the only one under 100kg. Nobody is obese, though. We all look like we weigh 10kg less than our real weight
@@aliy986 That sounds Awesome! Are you from Serbia or Montenegro?
The real reason Dutch people are so tall is simple. Selective breeding women simply chose taller men and that continued down the lineage so the smaller men weren’t able to get partners so they did not have kids leading the taller men to be the ones still there
This is the way.
Or the genes in the part of Europe where the Netherlands are is just made for giants because here in nrw,Germany we are the biggest people in Germany and it’s right next to the Netherlands
Humans adapt to different areas and that’s only possible by changing genes that’s also why different people even exist
@@jamiemohan2049makes sense.
My mom is 160 my dad is 183 im 180
Joe is so clever lmaoooo, 4:20 is relevant to the country
Love this video! You are a tall walking W! It’s crazy seeing you not look tall! Your content is always fire!
Dude travelled all the way to Netherland just to feel normal. Respect lmao
He is from the UK they are our northern neighbors, i was suprised he took a flight to get here😂
Thanks joe for visiting my country! Greetings from a 196cm tall person.
6’5 lol. Likely the average (actual) Dutch guy is 6’5 when you don’t factor in mixed people and immigrants.
@@Username-lt7ltIf you look at the migrants that came here in the 60's they are way taller than their peers back home.
Especially Indonesians back home they are like 5'5 on average they are over 6ft here
You claim you're 6'4 but the 6'3 guy was taller than you idk what that's about
I am glad he went to a city other than Amsterdam
Tallest people in Europe are actally from Dinaric Alps region (present day Dalmatia in Croatia, southern parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro).
right, but that's a region, not a country
Visit South Sudan please ,we'd really appreciate it if document the people there...
Yes, so tall, much taller than the Netherlands
@@amazingabby25 Jesus christ is power amen
I am 6’2” 1.88m Tall barefoot living in the Netherlands I used to live in London United Kingdom 🇬🇧 back in 2001-2007 and went to primary school and secondary school there has well one thing I have noticed is that Milk is consumed frequently in Netherlands at school lunches in the United Kingdom we never had milk I would always buy milk and would always have it at home but in the Netherlands I would have it at home and school so it’s probably Nutrition exactly the food
You should also visit South Sudan in Africa you will be shocked
205 cm is 6 foot 9
I feel like 6'4 doesn't even stick out in London though, so much taller than the rest of the country.
The real reason we Dutchies are so tall is because of the water. If all our engineering would fail, we still have to keep our heads above the water somehow.
So basically tall men have sex, short men don't have sex. The End.
That's dumb reasoning actually, what he said at the end.
,@@ayanpandeydpsn-std9005 It happened after WWI actually and he's true.
@@safeeruttero786 Tall men and short men are subjective terms , for e.g. I don't a 4'11 ft women would have sex with 7 ft tall man , lol. Second, being tall =\= how fit you or healthy you are. While being tall can mean you had good nutrition. It did not always guarantee, good physique or strength, let alone personality which can be considered average.
You should visit 'Friesland' (North of The Netherlands). People in this area of the Netherlands are the tallest.
Utrecht is actually only 30 minutes from Amsterdam (15 minutes by train) and there are also lots of tourist here, especially dutch day tourist who come in swarms to do some shopping.
Try Montenegro, because the height difference between the two countries is in the third digit after the decimal point.
He should go to Vaslui,Vaslui Romania. We have nuclear weapons, cold war era tanks, vodka and 1.90 m tall women
Now time to go to the country with the shortest people so you can seem like a giant
Funny he just released a vid of that lmao
Denmark 🇩🇰 Its the same . Giants everywhere
This made me giggle. For me as a short Swede it's the other way round in the UK. I feel normal there. Swede's are pretty tall too, plus we are one of the top dairy consumers in the wööörld! So, who knows? 🤷🏻♂️
Love the video but cracking up at the whole travelling scene as if the flight isnt 1,5hr 😂😂
