I think im in the same boat as you, just got the end of life notifcation when carrying out a map update on my Via Live 125. I also got offered this discount from Tomtom. So did you buy and whats it like compared to your old device. I like the thought of only one cost, the bloody once a year subs for maps and services in NZ is expensive.
@@PetetheAv8r The new one is generations ahead of my old one. I like the bluetooth ability and the fact you can talk to it like siri etc. I am very happy with the purchase and don't regret it one bit. Super device.
Thanks for the run down on the Tom Tom, we're heading to the UK for a 6 week break and wanted to know whether to buy one and take with us or hire one from HERTZ, we'll buy one and take with us. We were concerned how easy it would be to use world maps but looking at your video, we can do it
I have followed all the videos and connected this device to Tom Tom home, and my drive, but there are only Europe maps available to choose from. Why can’t I get a map of North America? I have plenty of data as only got Uk and Ireland installed at present. Can some one help please? I have bought this Go 620 purposely because it states “world maps”
I used to use Google Maps. I found that from 2018, Google Maps and iPhone compatibility is not good enough. You can't find a way to use Carpool and always recalculate the road. The position of the mobile phone software drifts after switching. The road that is recalculated after the wrong way is not the best route, and often travels far away. But there won't be this problem on Google Phone.
TomTom is probably the best option still, but, after using the Go interface for a couple of years now, I still miss the old user interface. It was actually easier to navigate and use, and provided some nice options that are not available anymore (filter POIs, for instance).
Hey @ImSammy, great video! I normally use my phone to navigate around the city but when I travel to more rural areas I lose reception so phone becomes useless. Will the TomTom GPS maintain it's signal?
Thanks for the kind words. Yes most likely however the key difference is that the map data is saved onto the unit so in rural areas when coverage may or may not be available you'll have access to it.
Having just purchased the GO 620 I am getting a little (read a lot!) annoyed by the video which advertises Tom Tom and seems to pop up every 5 minutes or so. This is very distracting and in some areas illegal, leading to a hefty fine. How do I get rid of this annoying advertisement? Is this a known fault and if so where do I find a fix. Happy travels (mmmm!)Brian.
ImSammy it is a promotional video about Tom Tom. I contacted Tom Tom support and an update was added on mydrive, I reset my device and downloaded the update. So far so good.
If you don't have a smart phone do you connect device to computer to update maps? Is the device not that good at navigating in city areas because you said you use Google Maps on your phone? Do you have to set up an account with Tom Tom online for updates etc?
I got Tom Tom 520 . Bluetooth connection is really sluggish . My drive is a waste of time . I am returning it . Can you recommend me the best Tom Tom device with reliable connection .
Hi there! 1. Does it support Night Mode? 2. Could you please suggest any gps device which includes built-in dash-cam that is similar (quality + functionality) to this unit? Thanks!
I bought this one when it came out and its been the worst gps ever. I also have an old one the model 1005 is a much better graphics and voice command, I just don't understand why tom tom down graded the 620. I'm looking for a new gps and not sure about tom tom anymore.
Download map is nearly not possible - slow and repeating load - very slow and faulty, screen is not stable - avoid it! During download it may delete all files - horrible piece of crap!
I have and not alowed my Dartford tunel cros because see one lane restriction 7.5 tone restriction but the rest line is fine for 40 tone and Doble deker trailer and send my long rote to take radish gps the 520 is mach better,if you guys have solution late my now
I'm looking at this for travel in the US and Canada and I notice you said you prefer to use your GPS on your phone when driving in the city. Does that mean that driving in or around big cities in the States could be problematic for the TomTom? I'd prefer not to be using data roaming on my phone while I'm overseas... Thanks!
Good luck with that, I’ve been trying for two days now to download the North America map onto my go 620, only Europe appears to select, no where else, and there is no help available anywhere. Going to send it back next week.
Does this or any other GPS unit have the ability to connect to my car stereo speakers via Bluetooth? I love that about my OnStar Navigation, but there's their monthly fee.
Sorry, another thing... I'm wondering if this navigation device show all the lanes on a multi-lane highway, particularly when you're driving on an 8-lane highway and you need to know which lane you need to be in when a turnpike is coming up...
I don't think so, I could be wrong though, it'll depend on map coverage. We don't have 8-lane highways though. I'm pretty sure the Garmin GPS's have detailed highway lane information though.
The Go620 also offers integration with Siri, so if you have an Apple iPhone you can make calls, set appointments, send text messages and more, all by using your voice whilst the phone remains in your pocket or glovebox.
Does the GO-620 allow you to leave "bread crums" on several routes during the day so I can easily "re"find my clients later in the day for picking them up? Thanks. Jim
hello, i think you traffic information is via the smart phone but while i was watching the tomtom official video (add), it says "Sim and Data Included" do you know if that means i dont need a smart phone?
inyobill the reason you have dedicated gps is that places you don't have good mobile signal, you'd still be able to navigate based on gps alone . You can also download offline map for mobile.
Only issue i had with their Free Lifetime Maps disclaimer on their site. *Lifetime means the useful life of the device, i.e. the period of time TomTom supports your device with updates, services, content or accessories. A device will have reached the end of its life when none of these are available any more. You need a PC with an Internet Connection and a MyTomTom account to download new maps and updates. For more information, visit tomtom.com/lifetime I know this video is in regards to Tomtom Go, but my Tomtom Via 620 has "free lifetime maps" and get the message in the app. "We've stopped selling map updates and other services for your current device. We have an exclusive replacement offer for you."
I have just bought a tom tom professional 620 and when im viewing the map it shows the map from above how do i get the map to display as shown in your video?
bonzoAU I think you're talking about 3D view? When you start navigating it should pop into this mode otherwise tap the triangle on thevleft I believe that should pop you into that mode.
Should be found somewhere within the "Settings" menu, I don't have the GPS in front of me right now to be able to tell you exactly where it is located though.
Got offered one of these at a discount and your vid helped me pull the trigger.
Good vid mate, and I'm happy to upgrade cos of that.
Cheers.

Nice clear, concise presentation, well done, mate.
Thanks :)
I prefer the air vent mount as it’s more reliable than the suction cup.

Does this work on the Caribbean islands?

Would you know if this means accessing these maps in this situation will be slower than per normal?
This means that even if you don't have GPS signal you'll be able to access the route information.
Ah okay Thanks very much for your replies, much appreciated :)
No probs :)

What advertisement are you talking about?
ImSammy it is a promotional video about Tom Tom. I contacted Tom Tom support and an update was added on mydrive, I reset my device and downloaded the update. So far so good.
@@brianhoare6800 oh right I thought you were referring to my video as being an advertisement
ImSammy Not at all. Your video was very informative.
If you don't have a smart phone do you connect device to computer to update maps? Is the device not that good at navigating in city areas because you said you use Google Maps on your phone? Do you have to set up an account with Tom Tom online for updates etc?
You can install and update the maps from your wireless network. You do have to setup an account with TomTom for the updates.
How can I remove parkways???
In some parkways where trucks can’t go , I can’t find option to remove it!!!!
Does the tomtom620 tell you where the police are like Waze and does it inform the truck driver of no truck roads ?
Hi, does it use the data of your mobile phone when connected or only Bluetooth? Thanks for your earliest reply

Garmin 61 lmt-s

Hi, Did you say this product has lifetime map access? Does that mean you never have to purchase map updates? Thanks.

Great review. Clear, concise, and informative.
Trisha Giscombe Thank you :)
What's the difference between the 620 and 6200

It's not a problem it's just quicker to use your smartphone in my opinion. If you're patient enough to use a TomTom then you'll be fine.

how would you compare it to the Garmin Drivesmart 61? which I was thinking of getting
CamaroWarrior Having not experienced use with that model I can’t speak too much on it but from what I’ve seen the TomTom seems smoother in navigation.
The Go620 also offers integration with Siri, so if you have an Apple iPhone you can make calls, set appointments, send text messages and more, all by using your voice whilst the phone remains in your pocket or glovebox.
had a 620 for about one, year speed and red light cameras do not work can someone help me pls tom tom help desk are useles.
Does the GO-620 allow you to leave "bread crums" on several routes during the day so I can easily "re"find my clients later in the day for picking them up? Thanks. Jim
That's an interesting question. Something I'm not too familiar with. You can leave way points I believe and/or import them from the app.
Yes that's no good for what I'm doing. Are you aware of "any" of the Tom Tom units that do this?? Or Garmins maybe?? Thanks.
Sorry for the late reply. not sure mate, maybe there is an app available somewhere.
Garmin or Tomtom. Which gps is better?
kottlu215 Better or best is relative.
hello, i think you traffic information is via the smart phone but while i was watching the tomtom official video (add), it says "Sim and Data Included" do you know if that means i dont need a smart phone?
Sim and Data are included as provided by TomTom without needing a smartphone.
So, to get traffic, I have to have a separate device now. Thanks, TomTom.
inyobill the reason you have dedicated gps is that places you don't have good mobile signal, you'd still be able to navigate based on gps alone . You can also download offline map for mobile.
U can go for 6200 if you want to eliminate the need to connect it to smartphone

can i get music put on my 620 like my old 720 where i used a sd card
I cannot see the whole world on this although they said i could, how do i fix this?
option for a lorry ?
Kamil Mitnick nope, it’s for a car only
can you get audio through car speakers
Unfortunately no.
through the city center leads to heavy traffic

Your sugestion worked now i cant seen to add a recent Destination as a favorite. Can this be done on a Go 620 professional?
Cheers
How do i find out what the currant version of the map is i cant seen to find it.It was quite easy to find on my Tom Tom Via 280
Should be found somewhere within the "Settings" menu, I don't have the GPS in front of me right now to be able to tell you exactly where it is located though.
does it tell you when to change lanes ?
Yes but it's not specific specific like "Stick the 5th lane" if that makes sense.
ImSammy that was quick, thanx Sammy. I'm looking for one that tells you to get in the correct lane for your left or right turn up ahead..
That's a tricky one, I believe the Garmin GPS's have that sort of feature but haven't done enough research in that area.
ok thank you for your help Sammy :)
So there is no built in GPS? It sounds more like the iPod technology - assisted GPS. And, like the FitBit Blaze watch - no built in GPS.
What are you talking about? It's a GPS..
Baahahaha
Just saw a comment where a guy think its without GPS .
Even Nokia 1100 had GPS LOL
worst device i ever regret buying .. complete garbage product full of bugs and slow performance
