Course Presenters: Jaime Correa, Marjo Uotila, Noe Morin, Milly Main, Nicholas Benson, Ruben Hanssen, Lucien Steil
A panel of international architects, urban planners and artisans discuss the different regional pressures and opportunities facing New Urbanism and New Traditionalism. They discuss how these movements must adapt with changing times to remain relevant and effective.
There is no good urbanism without good architecture, and traditional and Classical forms still make the most holistic buildings and spaces for people. While science proves and demonstrates this, we are still at some distance from bringing our built environment into better alignment with the natural ecosystems of our own bodies and planet. Architects and their projects increasingly need the hands-on heritage design and construction trades knowledge to holistically comprehend the impact on health, safety, and welfare of buildings.
    Learning Objectives:
    1. Miami-based architect and urbanist Jaime Correa shares his work as Climate Reality Mentor under former vice-president and Nobel Laureate Al Gore from 2013 to 2017.
    2. Milly Main is an Australian citizen activist and founder of Street Level Australia. Main discusses her advocacy for better, healthier cities through her approach of “ancestral thinking”.
    3. Stoneworker and MacArthur Genius Grant recipient Nicholas Benson shares how he has perpetuated timeless craft traditions in the making of America’s highest profile monumental projects in recent years.
    4. Luxembourgian architect and educator Lucien Steil discusses how thoughtful urban architecture and planning instills the vital human archetypes of “home, civilization, belonging, and change” to promote health, safety, and welfare in the modern world.
