Easy maintenance until.. A few battery cells fail or an electrical issue comes about which makes the car undrivable.

You'll make more than a ICE tech especially if you sell tires

    What about the electrical parts?..

Yes. I am actually taking my high mileage tesla model S in for a check up. I plan on keeping it for a long time so I am bringing it in and letting them do the 70 point inspection that they do on their used cars. They will present me with everything that may need to be fixed. Could be scary or not. It’s been pretty solid. I am prepared to spend some to keep it perfect.

After 48K miles on my 2015 EV, I did spend $20 and a couple of hours learning how to and actually doing the brake fluid, as well as a brake inspection (hardly worn down at all) and cleaned/lubricated the brake pads. They are mechanic devices, after all and do need periodic maintenance, especially in climates where winter (and subsequent road sand/salt, as well as rain/rust) happens. I will say that I didn't do this in my previous ICE vehicles, because I was always busy doing the spark plugs, oil changes, transmission fluid changes, air filter changes, and all of the other frequent maintenance they require. Owning an EV has lead to a better maintained vehicle, because I am used to doing so much effing maintenance on the dino burners that the relatively small amount of maintenance the BEV takes is a breeze. All in, I am looking at roughly $0.05 per mile to operate that thing, as compared to roughly $0.60/mile for the ICEr. Nice. 💪👍

Lubricated the brake pads? You must be really confident in your regen braking!

Looks like you also have to change the radiator coolant too.

Don't forget you'll have to have the coolant fluid drained/refilled... at 150,000 miles. So exhausting!

Also their is a fluid in the electric motors that need to be changed every 50-100k miles (lifetime). MotorTrends already did a 5 year study showing EVs cost more to maintain than ICE vehicles

@@WarriorOfEden3033 The only EVs they could have studied in any detail over five years would be very early models like the older Teslas, a Nissan LEAF or BMW i3. Maybe an early Chevy Bolt or Model 3 could be thrown in, but both have changed a great deal since launch. As such, no existing five year study is going to be representative of modern EV maintenance, whether it comes out positively or negatively for them.

@@SteveBirkett you listed modern EVs & the most cost was from tires. They focused on the leader Tesla. Again they cost more over a 5 year time than ICE vehicles because of that factor. No tires on the market can handle the torque from these EVs.

@@SteveBirkett do you know the average ownership of a car ? It's under 3 years & 5 years is the average warranty it's very important data to see what happens in that time especially first owners. MotorTends post study artical was published in 2021

Well, it does require wheel alignment and routine inspection, which is rare and done by the dealership.
As a Chevy Bolt EV owner, I am also burdened with dusting my dashboard and keeping the floormats clean.
