Wow this boss is really hard! You can unlock the true Agent 3 fight by collecting all 80 Mem Cakes in the Game. Tip: Be fast and don't let Agent 3 use his/her special attacks since they keep too much distance between you and Agent 3 and make you die real quick.
Reminder that this agent 3 is like agent 8's memories of 3, so she remembers her as being very, very powerful. You're basically fighting your own PTSD. And really, one of the hardest things to do is face your own fears
This plot behind this boss fight and it's design choices actually is VERY interesting. It is 8's flashback to when they were fighting 3, only gained after they have collected all 80 mem(ory) cakes, fragments of their past scattered and lost due to amnesia. The fight is meant to be super difficult for the player because, well, how easy was it for you to defeat a single octoling in splatoon 1? This time, you are being put in the shoes of an octoling fighting 3, a relatively weak footsoldier fighting a specially trained agent with lots of weapons, specials, and clever tactics up their sleeve. Octlings also had far less health than the inkling players. Defeating 3 is meant to be a major accomplishment because it means 8(you) has not only become proficient enough to defeat the player(also you) that has splatted their octoling counterparts countless times, but also that 8 has overcome their status as a mere footsoldier, surpassing even themselves, and becoming a 'player,' not just an enemy, because this is what the fight is meant to be, an inner conflict. A battle between the player and the player. The golden toothpick, by the way, is actually a gold sculpture of a takoyaki, a japanese appetizer/side dish consisting of octopus, which is normally eaten with toothpicks.
also I think the barrel (a reoccuring env object in splat 2) is supposed to be a juxtaposition to the glass wasabi (appears a lot in splat 1) case, contrasting the environments from both games/sides. That may be reading into it too much though.
5th phase: Oh I'm hitting him I'M HITTING HIM I ALMOST GOT IT wait what surprise splashdown?!? WHAT NO MY ARMOR IS BROKEN NO STOP SHOOTING GOD FUCKING DAMMIT HE KILLED ME HE WAS BLUE HE WAS LIKE ONE HIT AWAY GOD DAMMIT FUCK NINTENDO

@@trevhart2124 Well, to be fair, the first splatoon game is a Wii U game, you know..., that console that nobody had except me I guess..., so I think it's pretty common that people have played Splatoon 2 and Octo expansion without knowing the story of the first game....
Girl power station:HAH people call me the hardest level agent 3 whaddya gonna do now huh Agent 3:*makes this level a thing* Girl power station:..........
Looks like there's a lot of confusion as to the purpose and lore of this fight. I'm gonna my own two cents on it. In the single-player campaigns, we're offered a variety of weapons and upgrades you don't usually find in the multiplayer modes. The ability to switch between three different sub weapons, the ability to upgrade your gear to shoot at twice fire rate and doubled ink capacity, as well as being able to use a plethora of cans to activate specials. All of this (prior to the Octo Expansion) the enemy NPCs were never granted with such. While it's possible Nintendo used the inner Agent 3 fight as a nod to the notorious hackers in the first game, I would like to think different. When we're playing in Octo Valley/Canyon, the Octolings are just another enemy we plow right through in order to finish the level. And that's who Agent 8 was; another pathetic Octoling in the eyes of the player, which is us. We had all the power, while the NPC Octolings, simply have their measly little Octoshot and splat bomb. This fight epitomizes what the enemies go through when trying to beat the player. Nintendo pitted us against ourselves, the very being who uses all what they're given at will. Even if it's not entirely like how we played the first game, it's still very close. Agent 8 was defeated, and Agent 3 moved on their way. Once Agent 8 was able to snap out of the control they were under, thanks to Calamari Inkantation, and now that they've secured their freedom to the world above ground and recovered their memories from the memcakes, they wanted to relive this fight that took place two years ago, and defeat the agent who looked at them as a joke, and they succeeded.
Another note: agent 8 is just going off of her memory, so the fact that it's so hard and agent 3 gains specials every like second and without cans, plus can dodge roll, shows us that this is all in agent 8's brain. Plus, the hero *within* yourself.
The real explanation... It's *Inner* Agent 3. The battle doesn't actually take place - it's all in Agent 8's head. You're fighting a representation of her insecurities and bad memories, in the form of possibly one of the worst ones - and in your head, it's made *so much worse* than it actually was. As for why the Golden Toothpick seems to have triggered this, my headcanon is it was a memento of sorts. Your character refuses to pick the Toothpick up until she overcomes the PTSD that the pre-game events (and possibly some of the Octo Expansion itself) have given her.
You forgot the double health. Takes two direct hits with a splat bomb (or 8 shots) to phase Agent 3. Also infinite ink, allowing Agent 3 to throw unlimited chaser bombs while constantly shooting.
oh dont forget you only get a very low firerate weapon human aim very shitty armour that breaks after 3 shots then you are slow and die in one hit no specials
Richard Turner there is some kind of cheat going on. If I rush agent 3 like he did in this video, I’ll die in a heart beat. I notice how agent 3 shots hardly hit him. That just doesn’t happen.
@@ghero18 I know it’s late but agent 3 has trash aim. I beat him by just walking at him and he couldn’t even hit me as his ai breaks when he gets in a corner.
True, no shield break even ounce, and he successfully rushed her for the first three phases. Phase 2 she will shoot while blowing bubbles if you rush her which half the time breaks your shield and makes you a shitting duck to her bombs or shots, and phase 3 it's hard to land a shot on her as she spams those bombs crazy while as shooting and dodging at the same time. His aim is godly as he was able to hit her quickly at LONG range in the final phase after she used her final splashdown (might I say he got lucky he wasn't caught near enough to get his shields broken too?)
M3G4 T3RR4 I didn’t play Splatoon two years ago. I didn’t have a WiiU... But the second game is absolutely wonderful. I can’t stop playing Salmon Run Mode!
I happily wear this Golden Pin with pride, knowing, against such cruel odds against you, after dying multiple times throughout the 1st, 3rd, and 5th phases, and luckily sniping Agent 3 from a Splashdown and one of those Autobombs next to me, I'll wear this Pin until the end times. *Proceeds to buy and equip Swimming Goggles.*
What I would hope after beating such a fricking hard boss is You could get either one of these 1. The cape (other than looking good af) gives back protection and faster falling. 2. Getting Agent 3's weapon. Not a replica, legit called 'The Hero Shot' where you can switch between splat bomb, splash bomb, and curling bombs 3. Unlocking Urchin Underpass as an exclusive stage. You'd also get regular Calamari Inkantation on Squid Beatz 2 as standard
If you could throw two at once while still firing your gun, I bet you could get quite a few kills with it. The cramped arena also makes them more powerful than they should be.
_When you make it to this part of the Octo Expansion, remember what the Ninja taught us:_ *_"Try again! Practice! Unlimited continues means no Game Over! Game is only over when you make it over!"_* *_"You realize before you can beat the game, the game must beat you"_*

The time when Prosafia doesn't put spoilers in his thumbnail is the time when that rare grandpa eel NPC from the Deepsea Metro becomes a playable character (pls nintendo make it happen)
"you put the secret boss in the thumbnail, TEST FAILED" -C.Q. Cumber EDIT: 100 likes?!?! Somewhere in the Deepsea Metro, you hear the sound of a door opening...
You were a octoling battling "the hero" from the first game as you remember you are getting over the fact that the hero is better than you you defeated the hero that is in you
I fought this boss, so here’s a through overview even though Prosafia also did one. *Phase 1: Inkjet* For this one, just shoot at where Agent 3 will drop in, and then ink a path to the left behind the box there. Continue along the outside and you should hear the sounds of the Inkjet activating once you reach the other box. Keep, running until you are back at the first box, then delay for two Inkjet shots. Brunt the last shot while shooting at the marker where Agent 3 will land, and the landing should provide for plenty of health you can whittle away. From there, just be competent and mop up Agent 3 to move on. *Phase 2: Bubble Blower* Run away from Agent 3 and be mindful that they could decide to Splashdown on your head, in which case you have to run from your position immediately. Wait until their special is ready, and then charge in. Agent 3 usually won’t have a Autobomb out and can’t fire her weapon while in the special, so just sneak up behind her and shoot her until a) Their shield is broken or b) The special ends, at which point you must run away with your damage and wait for the next special. Do note that Agent 3 can burst the bubbles from her special, which do cause severe damage/ shield break if you are close to the bubble. “Rinse, Repeat, and Victory.” *Phase 3: Autobomb Launcher* Stay on the opposite side of the arena until Agent 3 starts her special, and then charge her head on. If you do it right, Agent 3 will back off and allow you to hopefully finish this phase quickly. DO NOT SPEND ANY MORE TIME IN HERE THAN YOU HAVE TO!! *Phase 4: Tenta Missiles* There are two opportunities in which to bomb Agent 3: Right before her special and right before the platform moves. The most important part of this phase is to make sure the Splat Bomb hits Agent 3 and to never have an Autobomb on your tail when trying to bomb Agent 3. This is the easiest of the phases, so there isn’t that much to say. *Phase 5/ Last Phase: Splashdown* Just outrun the three Splashdowns, and then immediately turn around and hit Agent 3 while she is recovering from the last Splashdown. This is the last phase, so don’t try any BS or she is going to exploit that and mercilessly kill you. DO NOT EVER GET YOUR SHIELD BROKEN HERE, AS A SPLASHDOWN WHILE YOUR SHIELD IS BROKEN WILL ALWAYS END A RUN!! Now excuse me, but *AUTOBOMBS CAN GO TO HELL!!* (Edit: General grammar corrections)
All of that is good advice but it should be noted that it’s all 50/50 based. Sometimes you’ll get a good pattern where she will land and you nail her and track her into a corner. Other times she’ll dodge in all of the right directions and you’ll miss ever so slightly. In a game like this with full 3D movement and countless variables at play there’s really no strategy to beat bosses like this consistently. Nintendo is also bad about not play testing. It’s all done in house and results in levels that only designers can beat properly. I love Octo Expansion but this is one major thing that holds it back. Otherwise I’d place among other great 3D action games like Ninja Gaiden Black, Shinobi and Bayonetta.
This boss is soooo easy all you need is: -Cocain -Cofee -10 Energy drinks -Painkillers Mix Cofee and Energy drinks together So take the cocain wait 1 minute then the painkillers wait 2 mins than drink the mix. Either youre so focused you beat her first try or you die.
Welcome to hell: fight Satan. Restrictions: -No armors -No specials -No checkpoints (if you are splatted, back to Phase 1 you go!) -Difficulty: Cuphead and Getting Over It meet a 1v4 battle with a squad of Ninja, Ali-A, Muselk, and Myth in Fortnite. Have fun!
This boss fight in particular really drives in the problem I have with how slow you are when your armor breaks. If your armor breaks, and there's a bomb even remotely close to you, you may as well be dead because the blast radius is so wide. Really, it's a miracle if I can manage to survive having my armor destroyed when Agent 3 is still active. I still have yet to beat this boss, and frankly, if all I'm getting is a gold hair pin, I'm probably not even going to bother. Nintendo, if you're going to make a boss so hard, at least give us something worth that pain, like Agent 3's cape, or even the ability to play as Agent 3 in the single player campaigns (preferably WITH the ability to spam specials like they could in the fight). The clothing you get for collecting the Mem cakes were a more worthwhile reward.
Legoguy9875 yeah I agree, I mean, all that for a worthless golden pin. Nintendo pull your shit together and give something worth fighting for, like a unique gun or another character to play as.
me and a few people I know don’t even wear the pin even though we beat this fight because why wear it when so many other hats and masks look so good lol. itd be cool if it was at least its own thing that you wear along with hats and stuff to show off to people how you beat the boss but it’s just not as good looking as just wearing most hats
No that's actually poor design. If they put something really desirable behind such a tough fight, it would be kind of unfair to all the people who can't beat it. This is a bonus fight, meant for people who are fighting it because they want to beat a tough boss. Personally, I don't care what I get from a boss, overcoming the boss is what I enjoy, and so I'll go out of my way to fight super tough bosses in games because I sincerely enjoy doing so
looking back, i actually enjoy this fight. i am damn relieved that i‘ve beaten him after an hour and i wouldn’t want to repeat the fight anytime soon but the immense amount of happiness i felt when agent 3 died was unbelievable. it kinda gave you the feeling that you‘re actually good at splatoon lol. it was a really nice hard last challenge. a good ending. but i definitely felt the amount of salt in my veins, when i got hit by autobombs, that were five meters away from me,,, thats just painful, especially in the last phases.
I don’t think you guys understand, they mean *PEARL’S* Killer Wail. This is gonna be a bit of a spoiler but I have to. Spoilers: In the Octo Expansion Boss where you fight Commander Tartar, Pearl does a battle cry and screams through a Killer Wail to reflect the giant statue’s beam and it’s really strong.
Owen Krahl I just finished it after 100,000,000 attempts, after I knew when she splashdowns you can take cover but still be in the circle I did what he did and hid and I killed her final phase before she could do that annoying ass mini splashdown so it was so relieving. I believe in you brother✊🏻❤️
I love bosses like this that require absolute mastery. Even if a game is relatively easy, a boss that pushes absolute human limits is always welcome with me (I’ll use hollow knight as an example and say that sisters of battle, pure vessel, and absrad are these bosses, and I love 2 of those).

Lucaruis NO! I DON'T WANNA LOSE ANOTHER 500 LIVES! *THEY MIGHT AS WELL MAKE AGENT 4 LOOK LIKE SATAN, BECAUSE THAT BOSS BATTLE WILL BE THE DEFINITION OF HELL*
Man, this battle was tough and gave me loads of trouble. It took me roughly three hours of attempts before I finally realized something: The impact explosion of the boss can't hit you when you're hiding behind an obstacle. I'm not sure why I assumed it could (probably because of the way it looks), but this discovery alone was so huge that it finally allowed me to win. Up until that point, I didn't even have a hint of an idea on how I could survive.
Norwood Productions This reward is like "Congratulations! For all your hard work, you get a worthless piece of shit!" BOTW's reward for finding all 900 Korok seeds is an even bigger piece of shit
It pisses me off that we don't get anything, no armour, no specials NOTHING! While Agent 3 has the spirit to knock us down whenever she wants...I DIDN'T KNOW NINTENDO MENT "This" HARD!
Congratulations to everyone who's beaten IA3, and a hearty "KEEP IT UP YOU GOT THIS" to anyone still trying. For real, this squidkid is Champion's Road incarnate and much, much tougher than they look in this video Thanks for this expansion, Nintendo. It was a helluva ride from start to finish and worth every penny
Ok, I've spent over an hour on this boss alone and I died twice on the last phase... that's cool. If you haven't figured it out I'm about to nuke my switch.
Here's a strategy guide I came up with after completing it: 1. For the Inkjet, wait around and dodge Agent 3's attacks until they land. When they land, place a splat bomb so they can't avoid it. After that, just finish them off. 2. Agent 3 isn't very good at dodging bombs, so during the bubble blower launch one at them and start shooting. The bomb will either shrink the bubbles thus giving you a good bit more time to shoot Agent 3, or will damage them to where you can finish them off. 3. For the Autobomb launcher it's pretty easy to avoid the bombs, but they're upgraded all the way which means that even where a suction won't hurt you, it'll instantly K.O. you. So don't let them explode. Circle around Agent 3 while they're using it. They can't shoot while doing so, which is probably how you're going to die. Agent 3's aim is incredible. Anyway, before there are too many bombs, get fairly close and you should be able to get them pretty easily. 4. For tenta missiles, it's pretty easy actually. When Agent 3 launches them off, throw a bomb up where they are. You'll need two and the platform will move, though, so just be wary of that. 5. For the final one, the splashdown, keep moving around quickly. It's even easier if you go around an obstacle and hide on the opposite side of where Agent 3 attacks. Every once in a while they'll stop and start shooting. Then it's like the first one, but without the Inkjet. This makes it even more difficult, but with some luck, you'll be able to deal the finishing blow.
Me trying to fight this squid: dodges constantly, breaks my armor every second, always die Him fighting her: easy hits, she never dodges, she never hits him, wins first try
Gibus Collector If you listen closely, you can tell that this was NOT completed on the first try. The song skips when the person playing gets control lf Agent 8, thus implying at least one death when trying to record this.
The other day I said "I never pass up an opportunity to hear Calamari Inkantation" when talking about the assist trophy in Smash. The next day I experience this fight. The gaming gods love cruel irony.

Richard Turner there is some kind of cheat going on. If I rush agent 3 like he did in this video, I’ll die in a heart beat. I notice how agent 3 shots hardly hit him. That just doesn’t happen.
@@ghero18 youre not rushing enough; if you can out-aggressive her its easy to hit her and dodge at the same time
@@ghero18 I know it’s late but agent 3 has trash aim.

It would be nice if we got Agent 3's cape...
What I would hope after beating such a fricking hard boss is
You could get either one of these
1. The cape (other than looking good af) gives back protection and faster falling.
2. Getting Agent 3's weapon. Not a replica, legit called 'The Hero Shot' where you can switch between splat bomb, splash bomb, and curling bombs
3. Unlocking Urchin Underpass as an exclusive stage.
You'd also get regular Calamari Inkantation on Squid Beatz 2 as standard

Oh, right, autobombs only WISH they had THIS high a kill record in multiplayer. 😑

“You’ve defeated the hero within yourself!”
What does that mean? Isn’t that a bad thing? I’m confused.
You were a octoling battling "the hero" from the first game as you remember you are getting over the fact that the hero is better than you you defeated the hero that is in you
Yes, I’m the first game story mode you were agent 3
I fought this boss, so here’s a through overview even though Prosafia also did one.
*Phase 1: Inkjet*
For this one, just shoot at where Agent 3 will drop in, and then ink a path to the left behind the box there.
*Phase 2: Bubble Blower*
Run away from Agent 3 and be mindful that they could decide to Splashdown on your head, in which case you have to run from your position immediately. “Rinse, Repeat, and Victory.”
*Phase 3: Autobomb Launcher*
Stay on the opposite side of the arena until Agent 3 starts her special, and then charge her head on. If you do it right, Agent 3 will back off and allow you to hopefully finish this phase quickly. DO NOT SPEND ANY MORE TIME IN HERE THAN YOU HAVE TO!!
*Phase 4: Tenta Missiles*
There are two opportunities in which to bomb Agent 3: Right before her special and right before the platform moves. The most important part of this phase is to make sure the Splat Bomb hits Agent 3 and to never have an Autobomb on your tail when trying to bomb Agent 3. This is the easiest of the phases, so there isn’t that much to say.
*Phase 5/ Last Phase: Splashdown*
Just outrun the three Splashdowns, and then immediately turn around and hit Agent 3 while she is recovering from the last Splashdown.
Now excuse me, but *AUTOBOMBS CAN GO TO HELL!!*
(Edit: General grammar corrections)
"Nintendo is for babies."

Legoguy9875
Git Gud.
Personally, I don't care what I get from a boss, overcoming the boss is what I enjoy, and so I'll go out of my way to fight super tough bosses in games because I sincerely enjoy doing so
The real reward for beating it is knowing that you did.

When your playing splatoon1 then u find a Japanese player

Here's a strategy guide I came up with after completing it:
Thanks this sounds helpful I'll try it right now this second
*Agent 3's inkjet explodes*

Me trying to fight this squid: dodges constantly, breaks my armor every second, always die
Him fighting her: easy hits, she never dodges, she never hits him, wins first try
Gibus Collector If you listen closely, you can tell that this was NOT completed on the first try. The song skips when the person playing gets control lf Agent 8, thus implying at least one death when trying to record this.
This is like the protagonists from Pokemon Gold/Silver vs Red from Pokemon Red/Blue. It's nostalgic and exciting to see two generations clash.
Imagine the goal is to not only defeat inner agent 3 but also don’t take any damage
I am Goomba you'd have to take Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion Dodging Splats class to be able to do that
The other day I said "I never pass up an opportunity to hear Calamari Inkantation" when talking about the assist trophy in Smash.
The next day I experience this fight. The gaming gods love cruel irony.
inner agent 3...
aka THATS IT IM THROWING MY SWITCH OUT OF THE WINDOW
3:47 “Poke it in your hair and get stylin!” Wow.. that might hurt.
We can all agree that the golden toothpick is the biggest flex in Splatoon.
Unless you don't have the Octo Expansion, Then the Hero gear and weapons in a Turf War is the biggest flex
