I've done the same thing a few times. Sometimes you get a quality worker who really doesn't know how much they're worth.

I'm assuming he's sticking to a first quote, thinking the support brackets would be the easy top ones...turns out its a whole support system and he didn't want to change his price. I think customers sometimes have the parts waiting for him. So its labor. But even so that turned into a 300.00 easily.(for labor) ....lucky didn't have to remove condenser lines too.

Charging low to get your name out there is a very smart marketing move. Once very well established, said individuals can charge fair higher amounts. Overcharging on a first customer will never build trust. If you rly need the money. Take on more jobs and charge as much as someone who can out preforme you. See how far you can take your small business with that state of mind. Professionalism is key to longevity in client trust.
