When I was a kid in grade school we would drive to Kentucky every summer to see grandparents. Our route from Kansas would take us through Poplar Bluff, Mo. I recall this Dodge dealer and seeing several new Charger Daytonas on his lot. They were definitely into the performance cars. Great memories!

Would I drive it? Oh yeah I’d drive it a lot within the first couple months of ownership. In 1970 I was 16 going on 17 and was working full time at a Mobil station in South Pasadena Ca. My Brother in Law found me a 1969 Mustang 428 Cobra Jet. air, p/s, decal delete with a 4 spd. 390 rear gear Highlander green with black vinyl interior. Being that age and having a car like that in 1970 was way to much fun, and a time I’ll never forget. I’ll always remember the day I received it pulling into my best friends driveway with his whole family in the front yard. The look on their faces was priceless. Ok take care, I love your show.

I'm German and not really familiar with American muscle cars, but this must be the most beautiful car I've ever seen. Inside, outside, everything is just a piece of art. 👍🏼😉

Gosh that's a beauty and a great story! Green on green works on that one! Ford and Mopar made so many great looking cars in 1970 and convertibles!

I drove all my Mopar's hard, even wrecking a couple including my Orange '70 Challenger R/T, but that's what they were made for, driving not sitting in a rich man's collection.

I’m speechless! This F8 Green / Green console slapstik ‘70 Challenger Convertible is a clone of my very first ride, except for engine VIN! Paid $1,200 in 1979 San Francisco / Portola Drive, a few miles east of our family’s home in Midtown Terrace, Twin Peaks. My 318 ‘Vert was my daily driver throughout my College years at Chico State, those were the days, my friends!!!

They only built 13 HEMI Cudas in '70, with a convertible top and a 4 speed. In my mind, the Cuda was the nicer car.
Its because nobody could afford them then, and they are desirable now. They were $4300 or so out of the factory then. Imagine if we had a peek into the future, and 50k to spend back then. These cars are worth millions now, numbers matching.

I’ve owned both model E Body Verts, four ‘70 Challengers, one ‘70 barracuda, one ‘71 barracuda. Only bought the barracudas because of investment resale cool indeed but always thought the profile rear quarter kick up line on the Challenger was pure DODGE originality, as opposed to plain barracuda profile; nice but a little generic Camaro-like

  • @matrox

Looks like it hesitated at the end when he stepped on it. My 69 383 Roadrunner used to do that. I think the carb may need larger jets. Also the Challenger had a 2 inch longer wheelbase than the Barracuda.

Amazing story! What are the chances of the original engine being reunited in such a rare, low production car.

  • @bitterclinger6745

Id drive it every chance I got and beat it like it owed me money! Why, because I know it could take it and beg for more. Awesome ride right down to the color.

  • @gibsondrummer

If its not driven then why bother with it ? A replica can fill that role , a phony , why not make make a thousand of them ?
Its very nice and very rare and the fact that its engine left it , went for a boat ride then was found and returned is simply incredible
So drive it a couple of times a year , when its nice out and stay away from the millennials on their cell phones so it doesn't get T- boned
Yeah right ! That things a trailer queen forever

  • @orange70383

Odd that it has the standard steering wheel, but I've seen oddities myself. I had an all original bought from the original owner 70' Challenger R/T 440 magnum hard top. The car was stripe delete with the same side moulding as the car in your video, and it had 6-way leather seat with an automatic on the coulomb with a rim blow wheel.. It was ordered like that. Felt weird to have bucket seats and no console.

  • @deanwilliams867

I used to have a 1968 Mercury Cyclone GT 500 that I used as my daily driver. I had to sell it when my wife had a stroke. They made quite a bit of the GT’s but very few GT 500’s with the crossed flags on the rear Quarters. I’ve seen 1 other and it was at a car show. If I can’t drive it, it’s just furniture.

  • @ThePaulv12
    @ThePaulv12 8 років тому +1

Would I drive it? Well it depends. The ridiculously high price commanded by these rarities precludes much road use, but on the other hand it is just a car that makes you want to drive it as much as you can.
I'm a pragmatist, all I really see is a rattly, loud chassis bouncing, bad handling and stopping old Chrysler with an overweight engine that makes most of its power over 4500rpm. If one applies my perfunctory pragmatism to sex then the human race would've ceased to exist hundreds of years ago.
The biggest sex organ in the body is the brain...
