I like how the dude at 1:00 is listening to "Not Another Day" by Atmosphere, and it's the verse that's about a homeless man, it's like he's listening to the lyrics but ignoring it in real life, nice attention to detail.
@@grantpichla Aw she's great in this! Hope you're still bumping the Atmos and I'm going over to Prive Vids to check out Making Time. Thanks for living, Grant.
Atmosphere is Powerful! This song come on my pandora station today. luckily I was stuck in traffic and had time to really listen. It brought tears to my eyes. Thank you! I needed this.
I've been listening to this track for 3 years now working as a waitress and it has always hit so close for me. I've never seen a music video for it and I was replaying it and decided to look for one- this one showed up. This is exactly how I've always pictured it in my head, this is amazing! Great job seriously.
@emily russo Hey Emily, I'd love to share with you our latest project. We just released a feature length, award-winning time travel romance film that is now getting great reviews on Amazon Prime! Would you be willing to check it out? bit.ly/MakingTimeMovie Every time our little film gets a new rating and review, we rise in Amazon's rankings and are exposed to wider audience! The crazy part? We shot the ENTIRE MOVIE in just 2 days.
It makes sense though, the narrator is pretty creepy towards the waitress. Mind you, my interpretation of the song was that the waitress isn't his daughter, he sees her as a surrogate daughter because he failed as a father to his actual daughter, hence there's a parasocial relationship.
What is the difference between a Bum, Hobo, and a Tramp. Seasick Steve said it best. Hobos are people who move around looking for work, tramps are people who move around but don't look for work, and bums are people who don't move and don't work. I've been all three.
oh nice yea usually on youtube the actors are clearly acting but this guy looks professional. Tells a story with his face. Great job on making this, its one of my favorite songs but i never seen this but i felt like hearing the song at work today and looked it up on youtube and found this. Well done. you got real talent.
nicely made sometimes or most of the times people disregard the lyrics and would rather enjoy a good beat but when they make videos to a great song like this one it gives it a better definiton to what the song's trying to say great song, good video, make one for the woman with the tattooed hands
Ive always enjoyed this song and most of atmospheres stuff but after watching the music video did i put 2+2 together to realise the waitress is the homeless guys daughter
this. is amazing.. I live day to day with atmos in my speakers and i appreciate someone whom takes the song and actually makes a video to it that works, thanks man.
I'm sure you have already but in case you haven't also listen to Became, and Yesterday... The way Slug writes these songs enables you to truly empathize, it's amazing, Slug's amazing...
+mike sullivan Yes indeed. Like ?Yesterday", where the twist is he is talking about his father and not a past girlfriend. However, I don't think this song has a twist. The waitress is NOT his daughter IMO, she merely reminds him of his daughter and how he should have been a better father. The waitress, in a way, is his only link to humanity and that is why he comes to see he everyday.
Tom Smith It IS his daughter. Aside from the fact that Slug has said she is his daughter; at the end when he's looking into the mirror and the reflection turns into the waitress it's heavily implied she's his daughter, she has same eye color, same hair color and her face appears right as he says daughter...
@RyanTetzloff Thanks, unfortunately this is the only music video I've made. It was easy choice to select an Atmosphere song. Slug's lyrics are full of imagery.
Great response. Well done video. I liked many of the things you did. My only suggestion: be a bit more subtle. Slug does a great job of telling the story, and I felt like you tried to forcefully convey each detail at times. Like I said, though, not bad!
This video would benefit from some color grading in post. Jack the contrast, drop the blacks and maybe use different color pallets when the 2 main characters aren't on screen together, maybe a third when they are. Otherwise I'm really happy you decided to tackle this song as a school project :)
Did anyone else get this but, the waitress is the guys daughter. The waitress is mad at the dad bc he wasn't a good dad (as it says at the end). That is also why the daughter wants the dad out and why the dad keeps coming back...he wants to fix his relationship with his daughter.
i understand that.. that is exactly what im saying.. if there is already a very distinct and vivid story line the artist wont make it into a video because its already laid out for you in the lyrics
Ha! The whole video is graded heavily, too much now that I look back at it. I chose a cold/blue palette for all scenes when the father is not in the same room as her. Around the waitress, its warm/orange. It shifts at 2:04. In terms of jacking the contrast and throwing away detail of the darks, I've found that to be a very amateurish look lately and I am not a fan of it anymore, personally. Although I will say the black point on this video doesn't look as dark as it was before uploading it.
@mattymaxima97 Good job nonetheless though. highest audio quality on youtube. Atmosphere is one of a kind for sure. Been tappin my foot to atmosphere's beats on my radio for a decade plus ; ) Thanks for the vid.
its a really good video but something i have learned is that most artist refuse to make a video about a story they are telling because its suppose to be whatever the listener imagines it to be.. but again really good video
This isn't purely about a relationship between a homeless man and a waitress. It's about the relationship between a father and daughter who happen to be a waitress and a homeless man now....
actually look at it this way, he never got the chance to be a father to his daughter and now that he's all alone and hopeless he sees her grown up and where he works.. She doesn't know it's her dad because he wasn't a good father to his daughter...
@mattymaxima97 When he gets an angry look on face when another patron slaps her ass that was good as he is protective as a father not a sleezy homeless man. I don't believe he would be smiling all the time though. i think you missed it there. I think he would be a dirty homeless man only wanting one thing. Just to see her and be in the same place as her. Not enjoying ANY part of it. BTW i've talked with Sean specifically about this at a concert in Orlando. Thanks
@mattymaxima97 Thats nice. In terms of misinterpreting lyrics, I am fine if you or Slug have a different view than me. The great thing about music is it's subjective; not everything is received the same by every audience member. I accept the criticism, but it also seems like you're trying to put down a student project or start an argument. I encourage you to make your own video on no budget and upload it so I can see your improvements.
+MathewCook dude its way different than that spoiler alert if you did not listen to the whole song if you did click read more the plot twist is the waitress is his daughter
