Hook - Hanak H130 BL #16
Thread - Veevus GSP 30d White
Body - Snowshoe Olive
Wing one - Elk Hair
Wing two - Fish On Ultra Dry Yarn Brown
Sighter - Pink Aerowing
Head - Snowshoe
I really did not want to tie this, well certainly not #16! My poor old peepers cannae take it......lol.
I was asked by a few folks to tie it as I would fish it so here you go, I would use this in #14 - #18 and be happy that it will do a job for me. I call it the unsinkable because everything that I have lashed to the fine wired Hanak H130 naturally floats. That coupled with the treatment it gets before going in the fly box make it an extremely robust pattern in any kind of water.
Whats your go to fly for that quick pocket water? Let me know in the comments section below.
Hi Lindsay, really like that wee sedge pattern, will be giving this a place in my dry fly box, much appreciated. Regards Jimf
Well worth the effort Jim 👍
Can't count the number of times I keep coming back to your vids, love the channel, if yee ever fancy a wee guest session on Cobbinshaw just let me know😁
That’s very kind Dave thanks.
That’s a good looking fly.
Works a treat to, thanks for watching.
Thanks, Lindsay!
Welcome pal 👍
I really like this pattern it looks good and I bet it floats great . I do a similar fly but for the underwing just use the snow shoe rabbit once I have a bunch I treat them all with fly Agra and let them sit overnight. Float like cork . Alway a pleasure seeing your ties . Thanks for sharing
Thanks Mike it is one of my favourite dry fly patterns for the river.
Thank you Lindsay for sharing this great looking pattern. Cheers
Most welcome 👍
Love it Lindsay!!
Thanks Lee 👍
Lindsay just to put a bug in your ear about Rabbit's foot, have you tried patterns called "The Usual," and "The Haystack?" Both by Fran Bettors, but the only reason I bring it up is because you have Rabbits foot available.
This pattern you are building is a great floater! Well tied and I agree I don't think you could sink it without a lot of effort!
I have not Kerry but will be sure to look them up.
thanks for the tie Lindsay.
You are so welcome!
So much for your holiday eh?
Nice tutorial thanks Lindsay. Stay safe, big Davie.
I have had a wee break pal 😉
A braw wee beastie Lindsay. Thanks for the tips. 🎣👏👍
No problem 👍
Thanks for the great tie Lindsay , you just know when you see a fishy pattern that it’s going to put plenty in the net !
Yep, it’s a staple in my box pal.
What a great looking pattern Lindsey. That is a beauty thanks for sharing my friend!!
Glad you like it!
great looking pattern. I didn't quite catch what it was that you added at the end as a floatent.
Its Mucilin but your preferred floatant will do the same job.
A great wee fly. Worth adding some to the Stillwater box in case the sedge are on the smaller size. Worse case if never used in sixty years time they could be mini retirers. Lol
No trailing shuck pal so not a retirer.
@@lindsayiflyfish in sixty years time it will be ole n grey with nasal whiskers lol. Seriously with or without a shuck a great addition to any collection
Also handy for late evening fished static if small moths are blown onto the water
Great tie, Lindsay! Where do you get that liquid Mucillin?
It’s Hunts up high from Hunts original.
Unsinkable indeed. Well, perhaps adding little foam outriggers might make it more so? ;-)
Snowshoe rabbit is wonderful material. I initially learned to tie from books & pictures of flies in catalogs. Everything looked neat & tidy. When I first tried to tie a fly called “The Usual” using snowshoe rabbit, I was appalled by how unruly & disorganized it looked. It took a while to learn that was an advantage. This fly is like a more refined cousin of The Usual with elk hair invited to the party. Definitely a keeper.
🤣 #16 I don’t think I can fit anymore on the pattern. Scruffy flies work for sure👍
Nice fly👍
Thanks ✌
I like the pattern but, I used the amount fo deer hair you suggested and found it to be tooooooo much .So I cut it in half and worked out just fine . In stead of a cent. I used 1/2 that.
Glad you gave it a go and found a way that works for you 👍
Nice one
Thanks buddy👍
Like it. Will knock some up. Thanks
Please do! They are worth the effort.
Hey, Lindsay Simpson. Fantastic artwork! Again I would like to say. A technical question - what kind of camera and light are you using for your videos? Is it a mirrorless camera and softbox light?
I am using a ring light and a LUMIX G80 with a 45mm macro lens for filming the tying Jan.
It will for sure sink if you tie it on a sinking line ;) Hehe, just kidding. Nice tie Lindsay!!
Or stick a 4mm waltz below it....lol.
You're supposed to be having a break man!!
Nice sedge though!!!
ATB Chris.
lol, I did this is my first video in 7 days ;-)
Great fly. Could you please tell me the name of the product that you used right at the end - a silicon I think you said.
Hi Trevor, this is the stuff with the label intact.
The silicon is a good idea
I do this with nearly all of my dry flies. It definitely helps when you are in a hurry to swap out flies and get fishing.
That's the same thing they said about the Titanic haha
......lol.
CAN YOU PUT THE LINK TO FISH ON WHERE TO GET THE ULTRA DRY YARN PLEASE. I HAVE NOT SEEN THAT HERE IN THE STATES.
Here you go pal, not sure you can source this in the US but I am sure Fish On will post to you www.fishonproductions.co.uk/category-42/ultra-dry-yarn.html
Thank you, I placed an order. They do ship to USA.
@@ghart91 Excellent, I hope you like it. I use it in quite a few patterns.
