      @@tonymckenzieofficial oh it does say Yamaha! Evidently Yamaha has the distribution for marshall in Japan! I live in Japan with my Japanese wife. She double checked my reading of those characters. Those characters are called katagana that is a system that is used to write words that are not Japanese!!!

      This is an interesting comment... firstly, not because it says Yamaha (that's interesting in a different way), but because last might I bought one of these and should never have sold it. The JVM410HJS probably has one of the best Marshall channels of any of the modern style of amps since the JCM800 - channel two red mode. I'm going to revisit this amp as they are now getting pretty hard to find and the prices are escalating somewhat. The one I bought is 2014 but absolutely mint and not abused so it's a great amp top come back to. When I originally made the review above, it was actually far different than I complete 'inside and out' reviews these days. My review on my website went in to far more depth than this video here: tonymckenzie.com/marshall-jvm410hjs-satriani-review.htm and anyone that has not read that and considering this amp should. At the time the review got about a 8 out of 10 but today I would rate this amp at a ten.
      In any case, your 'Yamaha' comment was great and there's no doubt I'll include that comment in the 're-visited' JVM410HJS which I'm sure will be a big improvement over this 8 year old review :) It's a wonderful amp... to review and the single thing I can find on it is the feet were rubber made on this amp and that do over time start to collapse through the 22 Kilo weight! Ha I'll be including that of course :). Stay safe....

      Yes I really liked the HJS way more than the standard JVM410H as it has great tones. The regular amp is a shadow of the Satch head for sure. Thanks for posting your opinion of this amp head and its great to hear you liked it and that you agree :) Thanks for letting me know Jeff.

    Great review and great amp. I got this amp 6 months ago and it is amazing. The crunch channel alone makes this amp worthy. Green on Crunch is classic plexi, orange is JCM-800 and red is AFD. red on crunch is glorious. It can do Slash with a Les Paul with vintage output pickups, but Red is usable for everything. The harmonic overtones and complexity of the gain on Red/crunch is great and Marshall should pat themselves on the back for that creation. The clean channel on orange mode when pushed with a eq pedal with a bit of a mid boost sounds like JTM45 Cream-like tones.It's more early Marshall on clean orange and clean red, so it is not "clean" per say, they have gain but not crunch which makes it early Marshall. I was pleased with how dynamic this amp is. I think Satriani was more of a fan of vintage style dynamics and wanted an amp that would convey that. Everything is usable and that is what counts. You can have 100 channels but if only 10 are usable, what good is it? On this amp, everything is good. The noise gates work great and better to have than reverb. Put a reverb pedal in the loop and enjoy a quiet amp with the gates on each channel.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  10 років тому

      I could not have put it better myself. That channel 2 on red is the best channel for me and it really is a great tone there is no doubt. The clean IS clean too and that makes a change for a Marshall. It's still currently one of the best amps I think available... and I really like the YJM100 too which has its own benefits and caveats. Thanks for your point of view as that always is good to hear when someone else likes an amp that I do. Oh and thanks for watching.

      ***** I forgot to mention that it was interesting to see someone take this apart and let us look inside..I don't have the courage to do that, so that was great to see and you should be thanked for your efforts. But I still have no idea what a choke does, if it makes it better than the regular JVM, I'm for it.....Now, if I could get my hands on a YJM, I would probably have the ultimate Plexi and be in Marshall heaven..I tend to think of the JVM Satch as really a versatile hot rodded modern JCM 800 and the 800 is the true heart of it's design.

      Brian mo I usually pull the chassis on all the amp reviews I do. My view is that lots of guys want to see the quality inside even if they don't understand it. Quality speaks for itself in a way that no company can - if its cool inside its probably very good. The YJM does have its own 'baggage' (I review it on my channel) but overall its a cool amp.

    Tony, thanks for another great review, and also thanks for the look at the guts. The circuit board and wiring look pretty good. I like that they're soldering the resistors above the board so that air can get underneath, and they won't burn the board up when they get hot. And, wow. the range of sounds this amp produces is awesome.

    Hey Tony,
    I bought the amp about 2 years ago, after seeing this review. Stepped up from a Laney Ironheart IRT120H. And I wanted to say thank you for that! Never had regrets ever since. I did a little mod to tweak it to my taste (increased pick attack, a bit more bite...). But the overall sound and the dynamics on this beast are amazing. I'm never going to sell this amp. Every single rehearsal or gig, when I open up the amp's volume (OD red mode, master halfway, channel volume at 1-2 and gain at 4) always puts that grin on my face like "yeeeaaaahhhhh".
    It's not concidered to be "the" high gain metal amp, but it stands on his own. Using it in a melodic death metal band, some co-musicians are very surprised by it. In a good way!
    Oh and uhmmmm, my cab: a 1960 B loaded with 2 V30's and 2 G12T-75's in X-pattern... Ground moving, I tell you!
    Yes, your video's make a difference for people like me. Again, thanks!

    I sent my question because for some reason, the video stopped playing at the 36th minute or so, just before you rated the amp. I was able to reload the browser and see the end where you answered my question in the video. Haha. I do love my YJM100 and can't imagine parting with it. Again, your equipment reviews are the most thorough and unbiased I've ever seen. Excellent job as always. Cheers!

Your the best man...not many people take the time to make an in depth review of gear like you do...you just cover everything down to the entrails of the amps, very very useful! I imagine the time it most take you to make this... Your video reviews have led me to buy a Marshall JVM410HJS...and maybe somewhere along the line a Sonic Stomper Maximizer...both to my wifes discontent! :) Well, enough said! I think this is one of the best amps on the market. Sounds simply amazing. I replaced a MarkV and Dual Rec Roadster with the JVM410HJS. Destroys Splawn amps. Only amp in the same ballpark is a Bogner Shiva or PWE Event Horizon!

      Rich Veeck Well it is, but you do see little things like I showed in the video, like bent resistors or that type of thing. The Mesa never has that, or the Splawn or Bogner. But then again they don't sound like this one. It is truly one of the better amps around right now. NEVER get the old model... it was not good. This new design has a reworked board etc. inside it and the improvement is tremendous.

      Thanks. I have an 1960AV too :) but I use that with a JTM45. The JVM410HJS is probably one of the best sounding amps of recent years that I have ever used... and I have played most Marshall amps. Channel two RED is absolutely a JCM800 :) and great it is too. I can agree that the HJS version is probably one of my fave amps too. The regular 410H pales in comparison - I had two trying to make it sound good! Then I bought the HJS... wonderful. yes. i have experience with JSX. used it about a year on recordings and live.
    to me it was perfect. brilliant clean channel tone and beefy tasty crunch channel.
    it has really wide range of styles to play on it.
    on JSX i learned how to open dynamic range with master volume to maximum, but the channel volume regulates loudness u need.
    actually for me it's the rule to all combos.

      I just completed a 'NEW' review of this very amp here: ua-cam.com/video/uACtMejLB4I/v-deo.html which you might find interesting. I had TWO of the 410H heads over some time and honestly I never really made them work for me. That new video says a lot about that as I walk through the HJS amp (which I recently bought again). But music and tones are subjective - what is good for me might not be good for others and what some other guys love maybe not for me. I never got on with the OD1 and OD2 preamp volume levels and they squealed after about 9:00 or 10:00 on the control. The HJS are completely different in that respect. Hope it all helps a little and if you find a HJS then grab it! Thanks and stay safe.

      ***** I bet it takes time but it's worth it, your reviews are pretty unique! I'm so disappointed, a local store had just advertized a JVM410HJS brand new for 999€ and both heads they had sold out before I had time to go and buy one... I guess I'll have to break the bank and pay an extra to get mine. 100W sound way too loud for the small venues I play but assuming you haven't used a powersoak for your videos, it looks like it can be used at reasonnable sound level, correct?

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  9 років тому +1

      Fred D. Oh you missed out there... that was a great price... the amp is really not that bad on sound volume overall. I often hear about guys saying '100w is far too loud' but in reality most amps have a master volume... so turn that down... they still sound good to me. This amp will work nicely on lower volumes too so nothings lost because of that. Most of my amps are 100 watts... with the exception of the H&K Grandmeister (36w) and a JTM45 (30w) they are all right up there on 100 watts. Indeed on volume the JTM45 is one of the loudest because you have to crank it near enough flat out to get that great sound (no master volume). Another loud amp is the Electra Dyne, but I recently bought a 'CabClone' from Mesa and that allows me to use the amp in such a way that it sounds cool without too much volume. Hope it helps.

    • @fendafred

      ***** Got your point. I hesitated buying the Marshall YJM 100 back in 2011 thinking I would barely use 30% of its capacity and it wasn't long before that beast sold out. Hopefully, the JS signature head is not a limited edition (at least this year) and I've still the possibility to buy one. A feature that I would love to see on the Marshall is something similar to the "Infinium" valve autobias that is found on Bugera amps. I know they're much cheaper than UK made amps but their 333 XL Infinium is supposed to be a copy of the JSX and it retains great features (3 channels, noise gate, reverb, master volume, boost...). Ever thought about doing a review of those Bugera amps?

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  9 років тому

      Fred D. Yes the YJM was a very nice amp.. but huge. I had one for a long time, but sold it (I really wish I had kept that one) and as you say they are no more and rarer than hens teeth. The JS head is not limited I believe now. Seems they are keeping it - last I heard but that might change (they don't tell me anything different than anyone else LOL). You know what I have considered the Bugera amps as a target for a review. I hear good and I hear bad about them, but there are sure enough of them being sold. Maybe it's the price (or not) but I guess there could equally be other reasons why guys buy them - they may be great amps. I have to be selective on amps (as I have a lot already) as I have to buy them. I just bought a not too common amp on Sunday.. a Tony Iommi Laney amp (launched a couple of years ago) that Tony was heavily involved in developing with Laney. Its a tube amp with EIGHT preamp tubes LOL. Reason for buying that is really the rarity and most guys maybe have not seen one... its a cool amp for sure. So the Bugera is a choice that might happen it's just down to what I find and where. There are really few shows these days and my next foray in to shows is the Music Messe - I'm usually unable to buy from that show so its more of a filming venture to show on my channel or website.... always interesting stuff. BTW the autobias (if I remember correctly) has been on the odd Marshall... but FYI on the HJS its inside! I mentioned that in my review that the Marshall designer commented on but alas he did not think it was a 'big deal' at the time. Oh well I tried LOL.

    I think Mesa incorporated some delay in switching so that any reverb doesn't splash over to another channel, particular going from a lower gain to higher gain channel/mode. There is one way to almost if not totally negate this. Leave the reverb switch turned on, but turn the reverb knob all the way down. That way you cut down on a lot of the delay...

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  3 роки тому

      To be honest Joey I think it's a sort of personal thing with amps. I have had loads of Marshall amps and still have many... but I had one of these as you see, then sold it and wished for a long time that I had not sold it. Previously had TWO JVM410H heads (not for me thanks!) and I really wanted to find another recently - you might have seen that review here: ua-cam.com/video/uACtMejLB4I/v-deo.html where I again run through the whole thing again. For me the Satch Marshall is one of the best sounding for the style of guitar I play and I think I was lucky to find one in such great condition. To be fair I have not in any forceful way used the JSX. I did consider getting one some while back though. I always wanted the JVM410H to be brilliant and that let me down twice - I even later modded that amp but I never got what the potential was. On the HJS everything changed and the amp was IMO entirely different although many (including the designer) that it was the same amp as the 410H. It was clearly a new motherboard with extra boards for the I/O. On my website you can see the review of the 410H where I go in to depth with (including communication from the designer), and these videos show the HJS in a way that generally it is not shown. My advice? You have to try both amps (the JSX and the 410HJS) and then only you will know the answer. The HJS will in the right conditions actually sustain all night on one pick of a string! Hope it helps and on that HJS I AM biased :). Stay safe.

    • @craigpriceguitarist
      @craigpriceguitarist 3 роки тому +1

      Funnily enough I sold the JSX as it was excellent for metal on the hi gain channel but I never got on with the 2nd channel. I struggled to get a classic rock tone out of it that I liked. I now use a JVM205H which I find really versatile and 50 watts is plenty. I'll never buy a 100 watt again no one uses them live anymore really with the improvement in IEM's where stage volume have to be kept lower

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  3 роки тому +1

      I get that for sure re the volume thing. But the HJS for example is MV and could be controlled with that. For my use (recording) I can get the tones from the amp without being on 8 or 9 :) so it works for me. But thanks for that JSX info. I never got to the JVM205H (sort of bypassed for no real reason) so I take that comment on board too... thanks and stay safe!

    I'd like to add from my previous comment that in Australia, we use the same power plugs as New Zealand and China. Malaysia and Singapore uses the UK plugs, and I'm pretty sure Hong Kong does too. Great Demo Tony!
    I had the 205H and squealed like a pig! This 410HJS seems really cool. Seems like its very mild voicing changes as you switch thru the modes. OD1 and OD2 seem voiced alike instead of drastically different on standard JVM, which would work well for me. Essentially I could set up clean, crunch and lead and lead2 with four channels. MV for solo boost or OD2 for solo. This signature amp seems versatile for anyone.
    Love your playing. Awesome guitarist. Great Demo!

      Thanks for the reply, actually I'm considering to purchase a new Marshall amp and I have an ultimate question, do you think the JVM410HJS is versatile enough to cover 2 new ones like 2018 DSL+Origin? If not, I prefer to get 2 heads and some money in my pocket.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  6 років тому +1

      IMO the DSL is pretty reasonable especially for the money. The Origin is OK too, but rather more classic rock I think (I have yet to get one). The HJS can do so much re sound though and it's not an amp that has many limitations in that area. The clean is pristine, and the rest - from crunch, through liquid lead to even detuned stuff is all easily handled. I agree it's expensive but one of the better amps I used of recent times. I did have a DSL 100 but to be honest I sold it some years ago and never really went back to the DSL.. if you can try a HJS I doubt that you would be disappointed... anyone help Elvis out about what you found if you own one?
      Preferably someone who owns one.

    I compared my 85' JCM800 to the AFD100 and found the tone for the 800 at 6, mirrored the AFD at the reduced volume.( as it was supposed to.) I'm kinda sad that Satch plopped his name on the head and didn't do what he said in a few interviews. I know you are twisted also. It's the "mysterious" settings of a Rockstar.

    Hi Tony, the sounds you're getting at about 22:23, is that all pre-amp overdrive? Is the master volume set to a fairly low level? I don't see you wearing earplugs so Im guessing the volume in your room is very reasonable. The main question is: are most of the crunch sounds you're getting mainly pre-amp clipping?

      Hi Richard, yes sorry we did not meet at the Music Messe. Unfortunately work commitments preclude me from going this year :-( and I was really looking forward to that. Yes others too have told me its Japanese I have been enlightened by the grasshoppers a few times LOL. You will love the Satch amp if you liked the old JVM its much improved - I play that amp often and it has lots of tones. I would have liked more difference between ch 3 and 4 (maybe like a RK II) but its not there so I guess they thought it not important to have radically different ch 3 & 4. It will work well with a 1960. I Use 1960 but the 300w cab and that works very well, as does the Vintage Modern 1960. Let me know your thoughts when you get it ;-) I always like to know about that sort of stuff.

      @tonymckenzieofficial  8 років тому

      +Robin Jahnsson Check my website under Marshall amp reviews www.tonymckenzie.com I have spoken with Santiago Alvarez on a few occasions regarding particular amps. He also suggested the JVM410H and the JVM410HJS were basically the same amp but 're-voiced'. He should know. But unfortunately when I compared both main boards one was very different than the other by layout by a very long way. You can check yourself on those two from my video reviews where I show each board. I have owned both the AFD and the HJS amps and I did not hear the AFD particularly prevalent in mine. Personally I do feel that the AFD can sound good, but when it is, the other channel sounds bad. The AFD also has a very high amount of top end on the tone that can just about be dialled out, but then it affects the other channel. In the manual of the JVM410HJS it specifically states that the Crunch red is a JCM800 mode? I just wonder why SA would say that and the manual says different? Thanks for the info BTW and for watching.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  8 років тому

      +Josh Brown I think that's a combination of the amp, guitar, volume and where I stand :)... other amps I have that CAN do that harmonic feedback very well (not necessarily shown on any review) is the Bogner Brixton (very limited with features), The Marshall TSL100 (some would disagree but check out my 'Eniac' album recorded on that amp), The 1987x (with a Tube screamer TS808 and volume) but most of the others are 'different' in one way or another. Some guys don't like the Satch version of this head but I thought it was pretty cool. Thanks for watching.

    I love your Reviews, I tried the Satch head for hours in store, but I guess I was searching for a slightly more treblely type of distortion, so I fell in love with DSL which was more to my liking. Thanks for watching. I have owned a DSL, a TSL and most the others too LOL. I liked the DSL but it was not as flexible for me. I sold my DSL a while ago (a special edition in green covering) which was made at the time in the UK. You are of course right the DSL is now made abroad. It would not stop me buying one if I wanted one really, but I did have one so probably won't buy another. But the DSL was good for the money no doubt. Most stuff is a personal thing when it comes down to tones so you did the right thing in checking both (or more) out.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  4 роки тому

      YJM in the UK is typically about £1800 occasionally cheaper (but USA is higher!). I just rebought a Satch head after years from selling this one (I should have kept it) and the Satch the regular 410H for sure. - you will know that. I paid about £1100 for the Satch head about 2-3 months ago ($1450) but non UK expect to pay more. In fact I reviewed the head I bought here: ua-cam.com/video/uACtMejLB4I/v-deo.html (you might have seen it) showing the inside and out of the amp. Hang on to yours. BTW careful with the YJM they can have an issue on the power reduction sometimes... Thanks and stay safe.

    About mid shift: I know that you had written about that, but... what about making it heard by everyone? Yours is the second video review on this amp available, so it would be really nice to hear more of it.

  • @checocr
    @checocr 9 років тому

    Hey Tony - You forgot to mention that in order to get the gates in there, and the choke, they had to get rid of the beautiful digital reverb the JVM original line has. The JVMHJS Joe Satriano DOES NOT have a reverb. Cheers Man. Great video.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  9 років тому +1

      Hi Diego, you are right of course... I failed to mention that and anyone who knew the 410h head as opposed to this Satch head would know the reverb is gone. Good point. BTW the main board looked completely reworked to me... Marshall seemed to tell me it was basically the same, but it sure seems different to me. Thanks for watching.

    • @checocr
      @checocr 9 років тому

      Sure. Meant no harm. Just to highlight the fact that it does not have that beautiful studio-quality reverb that the regular JVM410H, JVM210H, JVM205H and JVM205C have. The JVMHJS is in my opinion an awesome amplifier by Marshall (and I've used Marshall for over 20 years now), but it is way more expensive than a regular JVM410H. Don't know if you agree, I would rather buy the regular JVM, add a noise gate and save quite a lot of money. That level of amp is designed for those pros who make a living with them. In my humble opinion, tones on the modes are pretty much the same as I have tried them both. The choke? Well, not really sure if it would make such a great difference worth the additional money. Cheers man!

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  9 років тому

      Diego A. Umaña No problem you have great input to my channel and that's always welcome. Other guys with reasonable opinions are always welcome... (I do dump the nasty guys - they are forever on the internet as you will know). Yes the reverb was cool on the 410H but to be honest I really could not get on well with the 410H. It had a really bad aspect of feeding back terrible on ch 3 & 4 (even with the drive set back to say about three) and that I really did not like. I bought TWO with a gap between them, but honestly, no matter what I did I never solved that, tubes, choke's anything you might consider did nothing to quell those two top channels.
      The HJS is completely different. Its true there's no reverb, but given the tones on the HJS I would buy that amp every time over the 410H choice... and I've seen the HJS selling for (in the UK) about £950 that's about $1395) so on price here there is little reason to buy the 410H unless you really need the reverb 9you could add one to the loop (there's a series/parallel and a series loop on there). FYI the choke mod made a VERY slight difference to the tone, but not enough to make that worthwhile so I don't really recommend the choke mod any more.
      Obviously if you're not in the UK then I know Marshall are way overpriced (especially in the USA and surrounding countries) in my opinion and costs could be considerably different there. So then it becomes a cost thing... the trouble is, if you're anything like me, then you will end up selling the one you bought to buy the one you really wanted in the first place LOL.
      I do think that (contrary to some common beliefs) ANY 100 watt head is just as useable in small places (even in bedrooms) as it is in large venues. I see it like this... the y did not invent a master volume just to look good LOL. I was at a trade show on Sunday and I asked a manufacturer, hey what's happening with sales of 100 watt amps these days... his answer revolved around 'well the 100 watt heads hardly sell anymore... its the 30 waters that move the volume'. And I'm sure he is right too. But if you think about it (and try it) 30 watts can be explosively loud... indeed the 100 watt is NOT 3-4 times louder. I do have my own view on why the smaller amps are 'happening' right now, but I prefer the 100 watt amps and NEVER play them anything like flat out... but its just a choice I prefer and I really like the sound better.
      Anyway... thanks for that input.

      *****
      I'm with you Tony. The lower wattage amps don't seem to have the punch that the 100 watt amps have. Like you said, the 30 is more than half as loud(a 10 watt amp is half as loud as the 100 watt), but the 100 sounds better at lower volumes as well.

    Hello Tony, I am thinking of buying this amp but I do not use a lot of distortion, mostly clean tones. How much clean headroom this amp has? would you say it is as loud as a Fender Twin Reverb when in clean mode? Thanks and great review of the amp.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  6 років тому

      Indeed I would say that the clean channel (mimicking the 6100 Marshall) is probably the cleanest Marshall have produced and that was a specific for Joe Satriani that the clean channel was really clean. I used to have a Fender Twin way back in time :) and those can be a very loud amp... (and I used to crank mine) but it's all down IMO to the cab you select... move the air and it will be loud enough no doubt. Hope these comments help, but if you can check one you will probably find what I said is correct... if not don't be afraid to tell me!. Thanks for the kind words and for watching. Actually Tony, I am a bigger fan of Satch. Slash has never really made me go "wow, that was great".
    I love Satch because he's a good guy. He stops and gives lessons or little tricks as he goes through life and that is awesome.
    Slash I never really got to know because I was never a guns n roses fan. I do have to give him accolades as he seems to only approve of stuff that not only works great, he seems to ensure that they sound great.

    Hey Tony,are you planning on building anymore guitars any time soon? Ive really enjoyed watching every build youve done,and really want to see another!!!

    @KHGuitarFreak1988 12 років тому

    Yeah, based on some of the mods that were listed by Marshall, I thought it really addressed the problems I had with the regular JVMs. The regular JVMs were too noisy, and had too much compression and gain, especially in the OD1 and OD2 channels. Sounds killer in your demo nevertheless...
    As for the "Chinese" writings, those are actually kanji, which are Japanese characters for both the back panel of the amp and in the manual in your demo...

Im probably not that far away location wise being in cheshire (Sounds Great Music is my local, Will check out Sound On Sound in stock when I'm able). Nice one for all the reviews Tony, Take care man. ***** You are welcome. I sold my Twin 1978 and ordered the JVM410HJS after trying both standard and JS version in a shop, there is indeed difference between the two, say JS did a good face-lift to the standard version. Amazingly in NL the difference in price was only 150Euro. Btw what was that delay effect you were using, could you tell it's name please?

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  10 років тому

      Yggy Berry It was a TC G-Force with just delay and a bit of reverb and of course my old Cry Baby way from very early 70's. If you check the main board on the HJS with the 410H it is really a completely reworked board and even many components are in completely different places. I queried that with someone who knows but he differed my opinion... the trouble is, the board speaks for itself ;-) the HJS is a very good amp and the 410H (I had two) was for me one of the worst Marshall amps I have ever had. Think squeak, squeal etc. at one stage I thought it was a pig!

    Great video Tony. Very interesting. The amp sounds killer. But I'm starting to wonder if a new Marshall is REALLY worth the money. This is $2600 in the US. I can buy used DSLs and TSL for $600 all day long.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  7 років тому

      Hi Danny. I can confirm that the TSL100 (JCM2000) is just about as great an amp as I have ever used. I wrote a complete album in around 2006 called Eniac and the sounds on there were as good as ANY amp I have ever used. The JS head as in this video IS good there is no doubt. But I also recently bought a 2555X (silver jubilee reissue) and that head is really nice sounding too - without the 4 channels... its more like a 2 channel JCM800 with attitude :) Check my review on it. The JS head has that really killer channel two red mode and for me the amp was incredibly good when set that way. The other channels are nice don't get me wrong, but I bought the 2555X for around £850 or so which was around five hundred pounds less than the JS head. Different, but both have their uses I'm sure you would agree.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  7 років тому

      Mr Big... and of course the rest inc Alright now sound wonderful as indeed they always did. Andy the bass guy passed away not too long ago and what he had was something very unique.. my bass guy Alan Bruce can do that. Those are all really great tones... but getting them now is far harder even if you have the amp here they will stop you and attenuators don't quite hack it the same. Better than any JTM for sure. I have a 1987X (reissue) that supposed to be the baby brother but it won't get the same as on those tracks :) - well with me playing it never could :).

    • @Bourbon-Canted-Ky-Windage
      @Bourbon-Canted-Ky-Windage 7 років тому

      I'l take an old 1960s, early 70s cabinet over a new one any day of the week! A new 1960A is $1000 here in the US. I'd rather pay that for a beat up, ugly old one.
      If a Marshall head can get in the area of those tones, I'm a fan of it!
      Don't sell yourself short on your guitar skills. You've helped sell a bunch of Ibanez RGs.
      And remember, if the spouse ain't complaining, you ain't playing loud enough!

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  7 років тому

      I only have the reissue of the end of the 60's cab... it IS different for sure. The price of the 1960A cab (or B cab has little difference in cost) is listed at about £600 so that (in 2017) is about $775 or so. And that includes 20% tax! In the USA Marshall is so expensive. I was at the Dallas guitar show and saw a 'stack' (a newish one) that they wanted $3300 for. I was amazed. The exact same thing at the time I could have bought at least 33% less and in the UK second hand Marshalls are cheap. Ha... my Ibanez RG is probably the most used guitar I have second to the Jimmy Page which I used for some years but is now generally used far less because of the value. I love the Ibanez... its a Jap one and cost me $500 from the USA and they even threw in the shipping :) One great guitar. I changed the pickups to: Bridge EVO1(or 2) Middle screaming demon and neck a Jazz pickup. I don't always play well on videos.. some I believe I am exceptional and others sometimes not that great but I always think that it's not really me under review :)
      My wife... ah I remember her.. :) of course today... I have what she turned in to :) They always said 'check the mother in law' and I just laughed at the time! OMG they were right. So, generally good advice is that if you look at the future mother in law and don't see being married to her then be VERY careful!
      I'm only joking of course, but there are many true words said in jest.
      Hey did Laney solve the problem for you?

    • @Bourbon-Canted-Ky-Windage
      @Bourbon-Canted-Ky-Windage 7 років тому

      There were several others in bad situation like me. And Laney took care of us. REALLY took care of us. They sent me a Lionheart L20H and L212 cabinet. I'm still kind of set back. Wow! Still flabbergasted! Hows that for showing customers how much they love us? The Mesa 5:50+ is no longer my #1 amp.

    Hi Tony, as always - nice demo ! ;) Im watching you for a few months and I can only say - good work ;) Please a have a few questions about JVM410 HJS. Im thinking of buying this head - it is perfect amp for me - im addicted to MIDI (lot of rack stuff...), lot of sound options (I like marshall sound...) BUT I read a lot of "bad things" about this amp - someone says that the sound is muddy, fuzzy, fizzy.. someone says its unreliable amp (cheap components, wave soldering, cold joints...) and I heard about "bad" effect loop too (tone sucking...). I have marshall 6100 - in my opinion great amp, but this thing has almost 23 years. Its good in studio but we play approximately 50 - 60 gigs per year and 6100 is sometimes really unreliable... So Im watching for new work horse... Im from Czech Republic and threre is a lot of 410 heads in music centres but only few Satch signatures... Please If you have any experiences that you can share with me so I will be very hapy ;) Thanks for you answer and good luck in music. Greetings from Europe. Marek.

    gotta love Marshall amps!! best bit is they're not like a lot of others... even their value amps are hardly ever made in china... even my MG15 DFX is from india!!

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  10 років тому

      LOL that's so funny.... even I laughed at it! and of course its very likely true... that comment made me realise just how GOOD those Chinese amps are... !@?%^! pretty soon I'll wish I had that quality rather than Indian! LOL

    • @TheSoxmania
      @TheSoxmania 10 років тому

      the chinese ones aren't too bad, but because they tend to cut back on quality a bit, they're still not the best ever, I find the chinese amps have a slightly different tone to them, it's slightly more tinny when compared to the US ir indian versions because quite a lot of the time they tend not to use official Marshall/Celestion speakers in them and also, the Chinese solid states have cheaper transistors in them, which massively impacts tonal quality!

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  10 років тому

      TheSoxmania I have never really done much with Marshall Chinese (except the DSL Chinese amp) in any case I like Chinese better :-) so Ill have a 63 with extra onions. Seriously thanks for that info and input ;-)

    (part3) About trying different axes: I hope you agree that this is quite a lack in such a long review. I guess this amps is *really* dynamic and responsive, it would have been great to see how it works with different instruments!
    About the "selling issue": again, do and say what you want, this is a free world (or so they say). But... after two unsatisfactory jvm410s, it seemed that this amp would have solved all your issues, you say it does and that it is 8.5/10 but... you already selling it?
