  • If you're like me and can't really afford an $8-$20,000 garage Shelterlogic has this SUV garage in a box for around $579 plus shipping and tax (total $738 as of 8/1/14) or get one through Central Tractor for $579 and try to talk them into having it sent to the store to save you shipping. Go into the store and talk to the manager. You can reach me by email: wydranater@verizon.net

      If you're putting it up by yourself like I did do just the top half put that together and then pull the cover over top line it up then put in your bottom poles one at a time. I would also Mark depose and bigger numbers just using the last three or four numbers so you don't have trouble seeing the numbers

    mine blew away it started as a garage in a box now its a tarp in the trash and a frame on the ground

    • @dustyrusty3570

      Yeah that's what I was afraid of that's why I hung up those Shadow boards and added that shopping to make some weight and my tarp rip too but I used vinyl siding to make a roof with the end caps for the top Center and then riveted it to the pipe over top of the cover that was left

    I just bought one of these, and I have been reading nothing but problems etc, not enough support etc. How has yours been working out for you since this video, I sub'd ya great videos. Love the shop idea too. I was thinking about installing more rib frames even tossing around the idea of plywood on the roof inside for snow support

    • @rusty15353
      @rusty15353  7 років тому

      Lorddarthvader1701 I never had support problems these buildings are much stronger and the tubing is heavier than cheaper versions and with the weight of the Shadow boards and shelving it helps hold it down it's been through quite a few storms with 50 60 mile an hour winds the problem I had was after about 5 years the tarp ripped down the center so what I did was attached vinyl siding together with rivets using the corner moldings as the top centerpiece I rolled it together threw rope over the building attached it to the siding and pulled it up over the building as a new roof and then used self tapping screws to attach it to the building support posts

    How's it do in the snow? Would suck if it fell down on you with everything in it.

    Does it work well in the winter? Not sure if you live in a cold area. I have about 4 months of very cold weather. Need to know if this would work in the winter and potentially hold some heat to keep it at least in the 50’s. Thoughts?

    My frame isn't a round top, like the one here. I have a 10×20 King Canopy garage-in-a-box, that is more of an A frame style. The replacement tops have gotten expensive, and just don't last very long at all (2yrs at most).

    I would suggest start buying metal sheets that way in about 2 yrs when it starts rotting you can recover with metal or get the warantee

    Do you need permits for this?

    • @dustyrusty3570
      @dustyrusty3570 5 років тому +1

      No not as long as you have space for it there's a thing I think it's called land use you can only have so many structures on your property according to the amount of land you have. Where I live they don't really care but some zoning officers are anal

    • @Flipping_Assets
      @Flipping_Assets 5 років тому +1

      Ok. Yeah I live in north Chicago on the border of IL and WI. My neighbor is retired chief of police of north Chicago and now is city zoning inspector 😑🙄. Anyway I'm building my own like yours but with 1 3/8 fence top rail. Mines gonna be 30ft wide X 40ft long X 22ft hight.

    • @Nightman2152
      @Nightman2152 5 років тому

      Depends where you live. More importantly depends on your neighbors.
      Municipal employees aren't looking for extra work. They will turn a blind eye to anything that will make them do paperwork. Whether you want to build a garage like this or a 2 story barn you can do it without permits if nobody tells on you.
      Google (your towns name) bylaw office. A phone number should come up. Give them a call and ask. As a contractor I do this regularly across different municipalities. The workers at the bylaw offices are always very helpful and polite if you're polite to them.

      I would say no. Technically, this is a glorified tent and "temporary". But, given the modifications he's made... there could be a case. I'm sure somewhere someplace has a clause about temporary structures. They do not in my area.

    This actually really really cool. I'm looking to build a mini skate park for me and my son and we can't afford a huge metal building so I'm thinking of taking 2 of these and putting them together. What did you use between the shelter logic and your shed to prevent the water from seeping through? Thanks.

    • @tylerdavies2770
      @tylerdavies2770 3 роки тому

      Hey did you ever do that? That’s what i want to do but I’m not sure if i will have enough head room while skating

    • @pressureflipin1992
      @pressureflipin1992 3 роки тому

      @@tylerdavies2770 not yet, we are buying property in a few months and I still plan to do it, the head room issue is easy to solve cause you can take 3 cinder blocks on each side and bolt the shed to them then build a base out of plywood to cover the gaps all the way around the shed. I mean it would involve some work but it can be done

    How did you hook the plywood,, to the poles on the sides?

    • @rusty15353
      @rusty15353  7 років тому

      Hi Jason, I used self tapping screws 10 x 1" long (hexagon head) with flat washers. The hard part was drilling dead center into the poles because the poles are round. I clamped the plywood to the poles where I wanted it then I used a chalk line to find the center of the poles and it worked out pretty good. If you need any more help, contact me send me a message through Fb (Rusty Wydra)

    For the person to ask me how it does in the snow I couldn't find your comment to reply to but I'll reply to it anyway. It did pretty good in the snow it lasted about five years then the cart material started deteriorating and started tearing so what I did was I put vinyl siding on it with an edge peace for the center I put them all together with rivets and then I used self tapping screws and a magnet to find the metal poles Center and then I screwed that to the top of the garage. Actually I put it all together on the ground with rivets then I rolled it up and I added two pieces to it and hook the Rope to it and pulled it up over top of the garage got it in place and then fastened it with self tapping screws I want to make a video on it but I haven't had time
