  • Ride a steam train through a redwood forest in the Santa Cruz mountains at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. As you travel up a series of switchbacks winding your way to the summit of Bear Mountain, listen as the conductor shares about the history of Roaring Camp, the railroad, and the surrounding forest. These historic steam engine trains date back to the late 1800s and are among the oldest and most authentically preserved narrow-gauge steam engines in America. Chug along the rails under towering redwoods, some of which are more than 250 feet tall and over 1,000 years old!

Roaring Camp is another amazing railroad. wonderful trains. This has two train rides, the Roaring Camp & Big Trees Narrow Gauge Railroad (The Narrow Gauge Logging Steam Train Ride with their two Shay steam locomotives, a Heisler, and a Plantation Tank Engine) and the Santa Cruz Big Trees & Pacific Railway (The Standard Gauge Beach Diesel Train Ride with their two former Santa Fe CF7 locomotives 2600 and 2641).
