This live version is amazing! Proud to have been a D.M. fan since hearing them perform at expo 86. I fell off a bit in the ultra days but came back with playing the angel.....one of the most amazing bands of all time!

@@madametussnelda They haven't played this one in a really long time. Probably because Vince wrote it. The only one from Speak and Spell they do these days is Just Can't Get Enough. Still though, their live show is worth seeing. They put on an amazing show.

Wilder on the Emulator 2, Martin on the DX7 towards the end, brilliant.
Always puzzled me, Wilder or Gore on the lead synth from 3.11. Gore it was, tks. Brilliant band, best bar none (Linkin Park a very very close second). Was there London Hammersmith 1982 and many more. Finally recognised to the Rock N Roll hall of fame this year, but, so what, who are they to judge. DM ARE the best. End of.

Hätte ich eine Zeitmaschine hätte ich mich in 1984 versetzt und Depeche Mode erleben können, wo die Musiker noch jung waren. 1984 waren sie in etwa meinen jetzigen Alter. Wahnsinn, wie toll Depeche Mode schon damals waren. Ich bin im Jahre 2021 erst 23 Jahre alt, bin also noch jung. Ich hätte gerne die 80s erlebt. DM 4 Ever!
Ich finde es sehr schön das junge Leute heute noch zu DM finden und vorallem zu den älteren Liedern.Ich war bei einigen Konzerten nach 1990 ,aber keins kommt an dieses 1984 in Hamburg ran.Der Sound der Synths, die Simme von Dave alles vom feinsten.Na gut es gab noch eins, Pasadena 1988 das war auch der Hammer.Ich wünsche dir das du noch viele solcher Perlen auf Youtbe findest ;-)

The first Depeche Mode song if I'm not mistaking and a timeless masterpiece as many of their other songs are over the years. For good reason they have been my favorite band since I started to get into listening to music as a child.

This song will always remain the most "dark dance" track of the 80s Depeche. For me their best time. At the time they were very undervalued, unfortunately.
They were actually selling millions of albums in Europe at the time. Maybe not as big in the UK or US, but just wait a few years.

I saw them in Stockholm 1983 (Construction Time Again Tour). It was crazy. We got beaten up by heavy metal-fans who waited for us after the show. Hard to imagine today that this kind of music was so provocative back then. At least for some people. They called it 'a threat to REAL music'. Ha Ha.
That's so ironic, considering the fact how many heavy metal heads (including some major artists) later confessed that Depeche's music was an influence on them 😅

This song was written way before Alan Wilder came along. I agree he was amazing and a necessary piece while he was there, but Martin has done an amazing job on most of the post Alan albums (not all).

the emulator on stage was a fake one. they said that keyboards for £25,000 was madness to bring on tours. especially since they weren't stinking rich in the 80's.

@@TaraTheAndroid nope... :D It was a 100% Live played instrument and believe how hard it was to change floppydisks between the songs (you have 17,6 secounds loadingtime to get the next song, with your sounds...). Play an Emulator 2 live is work as its finest ;)

Aranżacje z Hamburga to niewątpliwy dowód jaki skok jakościowy dawał Alan Wilder przychodząc do zespołu w 1982. Szybko stał się ważnym ogniwem i robił gigantyczną robotę obok Martina w procesie twórczym. Vince jest świetny, ale Alan to inna liga.
Pewnie nie wróci do zespolu, bo są tu różne czynniki, ale myślę że fajnie byłoby gdyby kiedyś z chłopakami w trasę zabrał. Byłby to miły prezent zobaczyć go jeszcze raz z Davem i Martinem wraz z ew. pomysłami na aranżację.
