Thanks for the great honest review. It also sounds like the perfect VR game for me, and knowing about the bugs in advance will take their edge off when I play through. Buying to support the dev and hope for a patch or two, while having a fun play anyway.
I’ve been on vr since psvr1 so I can get past a bit of jank or lesser visuals but at some point dynamic fovheated rendering and good haptics gotta become a standard for psvr2 games as well as ports this game still looks promising so hopefully the dev will optimize everything
Brian Paul might need to make a video about Eyetracked-Foveated-Rendering becoming "a standard" on "Meta aswell" or atleast repeat in videos Meta add it before he buys into a Meta Quest3-pro so that Meta quest3-pro or 4 has it on their next headset or we are doomed to more lazy VR ports... Now that WithoutParole Gaming is AWESOME & famous headset makers might notice that ET-FV is A needed standard to help prevent these lazy ports of GREAT games. Once ET-FV is standard in VR, devs wont have the option to skip adding it to their games anymore because "only Sony" has it right now to help prevent these FPS issues. Apple said they will have it too but we need Meta too for it to become standardized. Lets Help get the REALITY in Virtual-Reality get closer with ET-FV!! (..at the very least saves us from lazy ports & Lame-game Dev-hell we are currently in.) 🎉🎉 (Yell it from the rooftops!) 🎉🎉

That's exactly what I did! 😂 Loads of people aren't getting trophies unlocked, though? Mine are fine. Are yours unlocking, and if so, did you change any settings in the options before starting the game? Trying to identify if this could be a factor in trophies being glitched!

Thank you so much Bryan for your integrity and honest reviews. This is why this is my favorite VR channel. Unlike all the others who had complete reviews ready to drop the second the embargo lifted proclaiming an amazing 10/10 game. Pretty obvious they didn't play more than an hour if that.
If this version is almost a year older than the PC version, I wonder who gave this game 10/10 on PC. And sure, I know that the 4090 will handle everything (sometimes it doesn't matter what you have) but I'm talking about bugs. However, I will give the game a chance and buy it at launch because I have been waiting to play it for a long time and most of the reviews are very positive.
Been waiting forever to play this on psvr2 as I thought it would be the best version of the game, not sure this is the case anymore…. Will give them some more time to see if they can make it a little better

Thanks for the review Bryan! Finally got a ps5 and VR2 setup last week haha. Think I’ll wait until they patch this one and possibly a sale or physical announcement(if there is one). Game looks really cool though! Great to see your channel doing so well man!

@@WithoutParole it's the only game I have been playing since it released and I have enjoying every minute of it. Even if I have beaten the game 5 times already and I'm almost done with the trophies.
Finally beat Vertigo 2 after like 3 months of playing it. Really really good game. Probably in terms of fun factor, this is near the very top in VR games I’ve ever played. For sure had its bugs and crashes, and times where I had to restart checkpoints from 10 mins back - but it’s worth it. Not sure there’s anything else like it in VR. Your review is literally spot on for Vertigo 2. Now it’s type for Genotype!
Hey, PCVR vertigo 2 player here. I just want to say that from footage alone that the PSVR2 port has a few graphics adjustments that aren’t available on PCVR as options, such as the ability to seemingly disable bloom on everything. Still, it looks really good compared to PCVR. Overall, vertigo 2 should easily be a must buy for psvr 2, assuming the issues involving the port are fixed, as well as IF the level editor also gets ported to psvr2…also, if they rebound teleport to something like a joystick click then you can kind of use the teleport feature to “run” faster…just wanted to give my two cents on the psvr2 port, as i play it on pcvr, and i dont even own a ps5.
I played this on pc with a valve index. It had minimal bugs and great performance for my playthrough. This, to me, is a must play game to any VR player
I thank you for saying "must play" and not "must buy". I really hate when people tells me to buy stuff - I'd rather take advice on that I ought to take the experience somehow and then decide myself on whether to buy, play at a friend's house etc.
Hey all.. I have a question about the frame rate.. Does it drop when using the analog stick to turn? I turn in real time which in my experience often helps with keeping games smooth.. Thanks

I was hyped for this since the game was announced. I started playing it, and like you, I love it's creativity and charm. But in the first hour and a half i did run into a lot of glitches/issues. Including the death by ridong in helicopter you'd mentioned. Also, it might just be me, but the weapon tilt felt really off. It made aiming really janky at times, i tried fiddling with the settings but couldnt get it feeling normal. Also, wish there were more audio options or subtitles. I had two conversations that i missed because the background SFX drowned out dialogue audio. I'm usually not one to wait for patches, especially since i replay stuff a lot, but I think I will this time around. I think it's deserving of a better first experience through than my first hour was. Port definitely needs more time, but it'll be amazing if they do give it that time.
@@deadringer28 Yeah, I did mess with that slider. After playing a bit more, I think it was just the red dot sight on the intro pistol that made it seem off.
Had an issue to when I went back to collect hidden special weapons, i couldnt move forward in the game anymore so had to load a earlier save point to get around that without starting all over from the beginning
It's easily in the mid-9 range if the bugs and framerate issues can be worked out. Possibly even higher if they add adaptive trigger support and improve the haptics. It's a phenomenal game that puts most other indie devs to shame
Nice review as always Bryan! Just snagged it this Friday and I’m loving it! I actually won a code on Twitter from perp games haha. Loving my ps5 and vr2! Went home to visit the family at Christmas and my brother had one. After playing resident evil 4 (and village) in vr and a few other awesome experiences I had to snag it for myself as soon as I got back to Canada. Hope to play with ya again someday and hope you’re doing good man!
We as gamers are a strange bunch, if we love a game we’re extremely forgiving about jank, and if we don’t then we’re not It leads to some huge inconsistencies with reviews etc I don’t envy anyone in this position It’s good to know that with all the issues, you still had fun and still want to return for more I look forward to jumping on it with a due sense of anticipation and dread haha
For £25, it's a no brainer. I'm really enjoying it. *Edit.* So played for a bit last night and everything was working fine. Got two trophies. One for the first gun and one for the selfie. Today though the tailgunner trophy is not popping at all. Tried reloading the game and when that didn't work I went back to an earlier save. Still nothing. Also the game isn't loading in certain assets. The projector screen at the start of chapter 4 will not load in at all for me. Really annoying. *Another Edit.* Following an update earlier today trophies are now fixed! Still not displaying that projector screen at the start of chapter 4 but cheats have also been added!

I thought this was delayed because of bugs? Resi 4 I've played over 60 hours, 26 hours for my first playthrough and not encountered one bug or performance issue. Think I'll wait until fixes come, so glad I don't have to play buggy games for reviews, much better to wait and play them when they are better.
I've started playing vertigo yesterday and really enjoyed it. Thanks, Bryan, for all your criticism. It allowed me to enjoy the game due to my contrary nature. It's such a fun game with a few frame drops and bugs. Thanks mate 🫡
Played about 3 hours today... so disappointed. 😟 Edit: a week later I finished the game and absolutely loved it. Worst of the bugs were found up to chapter 6. After that, the game seemed to run smooth, and kept getting better and better
@@WithoutParole when you say framerate is still unstable. How unstable, exactly is framerate.? Constant dips or just every now and then at certain parts of game? Oh, I’m going to try the hubris demo tonight. Have you played it? If so, does it start at beginning of the game and you probably don’t really see much? Or does it dump you in to the action? If it starts at beginning and is slow like a lot of games, I may not be able to decide if it’s worth buying.
And this was the release title and not a pre release? Other reviewers have indicated major issues with the pre release version that had been fixed in the release version.
No use of the sense haptics is really disappointing. There’s a huge difference between generic vibrations and games that utilize haptics in the triggers and detailed unique haptics for the rest of the controller. Hope they can fix some of the issues with the frame rate too
Seems like a 9.5/10 game with a 4/10 port job. I think your final score is reasonable given the unfortunate technical issues. I’m torn on whether to buy this now or wait for a possible patch (or a sale). I do have some other games to play in my backlog so I might chip at those first.
This to me is crying out for the dynamic foveated rendering offered by PSVR2. It's a shame the devs weren't able to work that in, I wonder if it'll be explored in the future for a performance patch? That being said, the game barring performing sounds amazing. I'll be picking it up regardless.
Man.....if you can easily identify all these problems during one playthrough, why on earth have they released it?? I used to work in games QA and I can't think of any games we worked on that would release in this early state.. it's very strange how this keeps happening
Same here, that said, VR is mostly tiny studios with no budgets but high risk. I have offered many projects to help for free with QA, some have said yes and they have benefitted from it greatly...

Yes, I confirm, frame rate are all over the place, even in closed rooms. I would prefer concrete 120 fps with reprojection and probably higher resolution. The resolution is ok, but bad aliasing is often visible. If someone is sensitive to bad framerate in VR, wait for some patches. This framerate should be unacceptable in VR. Despite this, the game is addictive, has great shooting, physics and variety after 1 hour of playing
Same nothing unlocking uninstalled / reinstalled 5 times no luck. I should have unlocked received first gun and the second one for defending the hover ship.

The game breaking bugs should be fixed now and the framerate (from what I've heard) is better in certain places. Still not super polished but far more playable now!

@@WithoutParoleI was currently trying to decide between this, Red Matter 2, and Hubris to buy this weekend, as this seemed a bit more action heavy. But would do you think Red Matter 2 would be the better buy? Or Hubris, if I'm looking for an action experience. Or is Red Matter 2 just too good to pass up. Also trying to decide between Walk about Golf, the $25 version with the 1st 5 dlc maps, and Ancient Dungeon, if you have a recommendation.
Bryan should be a BETA tester for these games before they release! I'm reluctant to drop 25 quid on something that has potential but is not as polished as it should be. Which is a massive shame as this was one of my most anticipated releases of the new year, being a big half life fan.
It's nearly a quarter of the price of a flat AAA game and cheap as chips for a 10-15 hour story campaign.Plus if people keep waiting to buy games in a sale games will stop getting ported to psvr2 as often as they are as what would be the point.Its a brilliant game with a bit of jank for £25 How's that not a good buy?
Err, a beta tester is a bit more than just testing a game onve before launch. That said, if he got time then i think he would do a great job as unlike 99% of other review sites he actually beats thecgame before giving them a score.
Up until yesterday, I was totally ready to buy it, day 1. I still will, at some point, but the technical issues are stopping me. It’s a shame, because the dev has obviously made a great game and he deserves recognition for it, but I just won’t pay out for a game with this many technical issues and bugs. I’m not going to send Sony a message that it’s ok to release games in an unfinished state. Perp Games said that the delays were necessary to iron out the bugs and get it to its best state. If this is what they’re happy with, it doesn’t inspire much confidence in them!
I started playing this game again this weekend, after having left it for a long time. I got bored and there was some framerate issues. So now I tried it for a few hours on the ps5 pro, and I loved it! Wow havent had this much fun in a long time. And im ony maybe 5 houers in. Just beat the tre boos and gave Nani the fruit😂 He wanted a fruit so I had to commit genoside on the tre sap people! What a nice guy😂
Make sure you load a checkpoint instead of just choosing "continue" from the menu. I believe Continue just puts you (stupidly) at the beginning of the last chapter...
So with (if) some patches and improvements to the performance and glitches, as well as haptic support, where would this game land in terms of score? 7.9 is basically an 8/10. So high 80's to a 9?

I stopped playing this game just a few minutes in when I saw the framerate hiccups, and I thought, I'll wait to play this after the inevitable PS5 Pro comes out and a stronger GPU should help it out -- and that was before PS5 Pro was even announced. So I played through this on PS5 Pro now, and sure enough, that completely smoothed out the framerate issues I saw at the beginning but it still drops at some of the more open environments, especially with a lot going on -- but it's not so bad, roughly similar to the drops that we even saw in Call of the Mountain which was a PSVR2 exclusive. I can only imagine how bad the framerate issues are there on base PS5. I do think that people forget to blame the Unity engine for some of this though (like with Iron Man VR on PSVR1). It's a GORGEOUS game, though. I did get weird glitches like weapons disappearing from the select wheel, although just closing and restarting the game helped it. Really, Vertigo 2 is mostly a worthy successor to the original Half-Life, which is HUGE. Unlike something like (say) Legendary Tales, this would be well-worth playing on flat screen if that were the extent of it. It is SUCH an amazing, varied adventure, and some great shooting action, and a smooth difficulty curve that starts off easy but gets pretty tough by the end. And, the ending is great. My primary gripe with it though are the missable weapon upgrades. I hated constantly worrying about what I might have missed before going beyond some point of no return, and it really could have used some kind of QOL feature to let you know what was in the area before crossing a certain point when you'd permanently miss your chance to find it. Other than that, Vertigo 2 surely does fall somewhere in the top 20 or so PSVR2 games. For a similar game, I think I like Hubris a bit more for its better pacing, narrative and gameplay variation, and overall tonal consistency. But WOW Vertigo 2 is an unmissable trip.
I cant wait to play this on my psvr2...yea ok it has tech issues....but hell, very few titles come out perfect in this day and age...we should all be used to it by now, great review Bryan 👍
Great video Bryan thank you I’ve been so excited for this game and while I am still gonna get it I’m definitely disappointed to hear the bad I’m no developer but why haven’t they added DFOVR and if that really isn’t possible on unity then do static FOVR to boost the frame rate and resolution that’s my only complaint tbh I can get past the jank I’m super exited to play tomorrow!!!
Of course I’m gonna play this, I’ve been very much looking forward to it, but I have to say that low frame rates in VR are a major problem, and makes me a little less enthusiastic. Even NMS has low frame rates in some areas that kinda make it unbearable at times, but I still love that game, so while I am able to forgive many technical problems in many games, it’s still a little disappointing.
Does this have foveated rendering ??? Is it a big problem to implement ??? I figure it need some work and there is no on/off switch but can anyone explain to me how much work is needed ? Aprox...
Do you go back to update reviews or consider doing so? At least the scores? I so this because in this day and age even single player games work as like games as a service from how many patches they receive. I found that lots of new players were a bit confused why some games that are considered great received low scores early on. Switchback is a good example. I expect I’ll add this game to the tier list I keep on Reddit to help new players choose the best games and for now this game will probably be under the good to great games, but from the praise it has received i would expect it to end up as a masterpiece in the highest tier once everything is resolved.
it drives me crazy reading comments from people who don’t use any punctuation at all just like this the whole damn comment is just one long run on sentence with no periods or commas or capitalization if I was a content creator and got lots of comments on my videos like this and had to try reading them it would drive me crazy and I would specifically call them out by name in my videos and shame them for this I’m just kidding but it still drives me crazy though learn some punctuation and how to properly speak and write like an adult 😂
Hit all the same issues playing last night, the way it moved you when firing the turret at the back of the drop ship was pretty irritating. For me exploding barrels tanked the framerate no matter where or when they go off even if I’m not looking at them. I feel like dynamic foveated eye tracking would help sharpen up the visuals a touch but ultimately help with some of the framerate issues. It reminds me of no mans sky before foveated rendering was introduced. I hope this can be added guess it depends on how easy/difficult it is to implement in unity.
I’m starting to feel discouraged at this point. I’m bracing myself for disappointment ahead of every PSVR 2 release. And most of the time, it’s for good reason. 😢
@@thequimster9865 I have both the Quest 2 and 3, as well as the PSVR 2. I’d say Quest games are way more consistent in terms of quality when it comes to resolution and good reprojection, at least.

Once the issues are resolved I'll give it a try Glad you mentioned all of that and spared me a negative surprise of a in general very interesting looking VR experience
I appreciate the effort put into Vertigo 2, but I feel there's room for improvement in terms of visuals. It seems like there's potential for better utilization of PS VR2 features like eye tracking and foveated rendering. Additionally, addressing the popping and flickering issues could enhance the overall experience. As a VR enthusiast, I believe in the potential of the platform, and I hope future releases can fully harness the capabilities of advanced headsets. I know he was worried about porting it to PSVR2 because he had zero experience with that. I'm guessing he had a rough time porting it. It sucks it has more issues than the PCVR version because it is truly an amazing game.
Aiming is completely off and it is IMPOSSIBLE to aim with any precision really. And what I mean by that is aim being really lower than you'd expect holding a controller. The only option that is supposed to adjust that doesn't really seem to do anything meaningful. It seems with all of weapons I got so far (four by now), you never know where your shots will land before you fire one (or more) bullets and see where the these bullets actually landed. I died more than a few times because of that on some of more time-sensitive sections. Couldn't figure out how to fix this. For a mostly-shooter, that's a HUGE deal breaker of otherwise a fantastic game. I like the game a lot so I will put that aside and wait for a fix. Because I feel like it takes so much of enjoyment of this great game. Also… the grenades… man don't even get me started on these :) Wish there we arcs and I could just kinda aim with that - throwing them based on whatever physics the game uses is like playing in a slot machine :)
Ok, this needs to be patch first, before you buy it! I will keep up with your weekly updates to wait until you say it is fixed and save to buy it. Just like with Switchback
Having played a lot of Bethesda games, I know I can deal with a couple of bugs, here and there. But the kind of bugs I'm watching in your video will completely ruin the game for me. So, I'll wait for a patch, or 2, or 3... It seems like a really fun game, and that's why I don't want anything to ruin my fun.
Most bugs in a game i've ever seen. All my save points gone. Weapons disappeared except one and after loading to the area to place the reactor pieces, the quest item is gone so the game is over ... really bad and disappointing
Hey Mike thanks for the update. You have even more bugs than I did (which I'm really sorry to hear about). I finished the game and some of the people playing around launch reported having NO bugs. So it varies from person. You can report your issues to perpsupport@perpgames.com and hopefully they'll be fixed in the next patch
Don't regret being that patient to finish the game. The creativity is amazing. Definitly will check out the other modes some day . Thank you for all your content.
Yet another instance of why I rarely play games at launch. I’ll wait however long it takes for the devs to fix the performance issues, then maybe even get it on sale.
They could add option for fixed foveated rendering if eye tracking is a problem on unity, it should save a bit of performance but maybe it was not possible for some reason. I can see only one cutback comparing to PC version - no mirrors. Game should win 2023 GOTY but Steam players are usually awkward with their mass voting.

The no running is not really an issue and is most likely intentional. You have the teleport to get out of tight situations.

I can look past all these issue and I played the first game and have been waiting to play Vertigo 2 on PSVR2 and I know its going to be great.

Hi bud are your trophies unlocking? I got the game this morning but my first to trophies received a gun and protect the hover ship.

Finally beat Vertigo 2 after like 3 months of playing it. Really really good game. Probably in terms of fun factor, this is near the very top in VR games I’ve ever played. For sure had its bugs and crashes, and times where I had to restart checkpoints from 10 mins back - but it’s worth it. Not sure there’s anything else like it in VR. Your review is literally spot on for Vertigo 2. Now it’s type for Genotype!

Hey, PCVR vertigo 2 player here. I just want to say that from footage alone that the PSVR2 port has a few graphics adjustments that aren’t available on PCVR as options, such as the ability to seemingly disable bloom on everything. Still, it looks really good compared to PCVR. Overall, vertigo 2 should easily be a must buy for psvr 2, assuming the issues involving the port are fixed, as well as IF the level editor also gets ported to psvr2…also, if they rebound teleport to something like a joystick click then you can kind of use the teleport feature to “run” faster…just wanted to give my two cents on the psvr2 port, as i play it on pcvr, and i dont even own a ps5.
I played this on pc with a valve index. It had minimal bugs and great performance for my playthrough. This, to me, is a must play game to any VR player
I thank you for saying "must play" and not "must buy". I really hate when people tells me to buy stuff - I'd rather take advice on that I ought to take the experience somehow and then decide myself on whether to buy, play at a friend's house etc.
Only bug I found was in the Iron Chub helicopter thing where the physics is a bit weird

Hey all.. I have a question about the frame rate.. Does it drop when using the analog stick to turn? I turn in real time which in my experience often helps with keeping games smooth.. Thanks
yes, it drops even more when using the analog stick to turn. but the low framerate will still be recognizable regardless

I was hyped for this since the game was announced. I started playing it, and like you, I love it's creativity and charm. But in the first hour and a half i did run into a lot of glitches/issues. Including the death by ridong in helicopter you'd mentioned. Also, it might just be me, but the weapon tilt felt really off. It made aiming really janky at times, i tried fiddling with the settings but couldnt get it feeling normal. Also, wish there were more audio options or subtitles. I had two conversations that i missed because the background SFX drowned out dialogue audio. I'm usually not one to wait for patches, especially since i replay stuff a lot, but I think I will this time around. I think it's deserving of a better first experience through than my first hour was. Port definitely needs more time, but it'll be amazing if they do give it that time.
Weapon tilt can be adjusted on options. It's under gameplay I believe.
@@deadringer28 Yeah, I did mess with that slider. After playing a bit more, I think it was just the red dot sight on the intro pistol that made it seem off.
Sounds like the game has no problems a few patches couldn't fix. I'll wait before the inevitable purchase. It seems really unique and fun!

Had an issue to when I went back to collect hidden special weapons, i couldnt move forward in the game anymore so had to load a earlier save point to get around that without starting all over from the beginning
What would you give the game if there were no bugs?
It's easily in the mid-9 range if the bugs and framerate issues can be worked out. Possibly even higher if they add adaptive trigger support and improve the haptics. It's a phenomenal game that puts most other indie devs to shame

Nice review as always Bryan! Just snagged it this Friday and I’m loving it! I actually won a code on Twitter from perp games haha. Loving my ps5 and vr2! Went home to visit the family at Christmas and my brother had one. After playing resident evil 4 (and village) in vr and a few other awesome experiences I had to snag it for myself as soon as I got back to Canada.

Some, not all. The bugs have been taken care of but the framerate still stutters more than it should
We as gamers are a strange bunch, if we love a game we’re extremely forgiving about jank, and if we don’t then we’re not
It leads to some huge inconsistencies with reviews etc I don’t envy anyone in this position
It’s good to know that with all the issues, you still had fun and still want to return for more

For £25, it's a no brainer. I'm really enjoying it.
*Edit.* So played for a bit last night and everything was working fine. Got two trophies. One for the first gun and one for the selfie. Today though the tailgunner trophy is not popping at all. Tried reloading the game and when that didn't work I went back to an earlier save. Still nothing. Also the game isn't loading in certain assets. The projector screen at the start of chapter 4 will not load in at all for me. Really annoying.
*Another Edit.* Following an update earlier today trophies are now fixed! Still not displaying that projector screen at the start of chapter 4 but cheats have also been added!

I thought this was delayed because of bugs? Resi 4 I've played over 60 hours, 26 hours for my first playthrough and not encountered one bug or performance issue. Think I'll wait until fixes come, so glad I don't have to play buggy games for reviews, much better to wait and play them when they are better.
Key here is... Capcom used a huge team for Re4. Vertigo2 is just 1 single man.

Played about 3 hours today... so disappointed. 😟
Edit: a week later I finished the game and absolutely loved it. Worst of the bugs were found up to chapter 6. After that, the game seemed to run smooth, and kept getting better and better

Oh, I’m going to try the hubris demo tonight. Have you played it? If so, does it start at beginning of the game and you probably don’t really see much? Or does it dump you in to the action?
If it starts at beginning and is slow like a lot of games, I may not be able to decide if it’s worth buying.
And this was the release title and not a pre release? Other reviewers have indicated major issues with the pre release version that had been fixed in the release version.
This is 100% the release version. I don't trust any developer or publisher when they say something's fixed - I have to play that shit for myself

No use of the sense haptics is really disappointing. There’s a huge difference between generic vibrations and games that utilize haptics in the triggers and detailed unique haptics for the rest of the controller. Hope they can fix some of the issues with the frame rate too

Seems like a 9.5/10 game with a 4/10 port job. I think your final score is reasonable given the unfortunate technical issues.
I’m torn on whether to buy this now or wait for a possible patch (or a sale). I do have some other games to play in my backlog so I might chip at those first.
This to me is crying out for the dynamic foveated rendering offered by PSVR2. It's a shame the devs weren't able to work that in, I wonder if it'll be explored in the future for a performance patch? That being said, the game barring performing sounds amazing. I'll be picking it up regardless.

Same here, that said, VR is mostly tiny studios with no budgets but high risk.
I have offered many projects to help for free with QA, some have said yes and they have benefitted from it greatly...

Yes, I confirm, frame rate are all over the place, even in closed rooms. I would prefer concrete 120 fps with reprojection and probably higher resolution.
The resolution is ok, but bad aliasing is often visible.
If someone is sensitive to bad framerate in VR, wait for some patches. This framerate should be unacceptable in VR. Despite this, the game is addictive, has great shooting, physics and variety after 1 hour of playing

Same nothing unlocking uninstalled / reinstalled 5 times no luck. I should have unlocked received first gun and the second one for defending the hover ship.

But would do you think Red Matter 2 would be the better buy? Or Hubris, if I'm looking for an action experience. Or is Red Matter 2 just too good to pass up. Also trying to decide between Walk about Golf, the $25 version with the 1st 5 dlc maps, and Ancient Dungeon, if you have a recommendation.
With the recent news we can only expect every Unity engine vr game to have problems on PSVR2. I’ll stick with pcvr versions of those games.

I'm reluctant to drop 25 quid on something that has potential but is not as polished as it should be.
Which is a massive shame as this was one of my most anticipated releases of the new year, being a big half life fan.
It's nearly a quarter of the price of a flat AAA game and cheap as chips for a 10-15 hour story campaign.Plus if people keep waiting to buy games in a sale games will stop getting ported to psvr2 as often as they are as what would be the point.Its a brilliant game with a bit of jank for £25 How's that not a good buy?
Err, a beta tester is a bit more than just testing a game onve before launch. That said, if he got time then i think he would do a great job as unlike 99% of other review sites he actually beats thecgame before giving them a score.

Up until yesterday, I was totally ready to buy it, day 1. I still will, at some point, but the technical issues are stopping me. It’s a shame, because the dev has obviously made a great game and he deserves recognition for it, but I just won’t pay out for a game with this many technical issues and bugs. I’m not going to send Sony a message that it’s ok to release games in an unfinished state. Perp Games said that the delays were necessary to iron out the bugs and get it to its best state. If this is what they’re happy with, it doesn’t inspire much confidence in them!
I started playing this game again this weekend, after having left it for a long time. I got bored and there was some framerate issues. So now I tried it for a few hours on the ps5 pro, and I loved it! Wow havent had this much fun in a long time. And im ony maybe 5 houers in. Just beat the tre boos and gave Nani the fruit😂 He wanted a fruit so I had to commit genoside on the tre sap people! What a nice guy😂

Is anyone having trouble with the game not saving when it says it's saving? I go back to play it after it says it's saved and it puts me waaay back.
Make sure you load a checkpoint instead of just choosing "continue" from the menu. I believe Continue just puts you (stupidly) at the beginning of the last chapter...

I stopped playing this game just a few minutes in when I saw the framerate hiccups, and I thought, I'll wait to play this after the inevitable PS5 Pro comes out and a stronger GPU should help it out -- and that was before PS5 Pro was even announced.
So I played through this on PS5 Pro now, and sure enough, that completely smoothed out the framerate issues I saw at the beginning but it still drops at some of the more open environments, especially with a lot going on -- but it's not so bad, roughly similar to the drops that we even saw in Call of the Mountain which was a PSVR2 exclusive. I can only imagine how bad the framerate issues are there on base PS5. I do think that people forget to blame the Unity engine for some of this though (like with Iron Man VR on PSVR1). It's a GORGEOUS game, though. I did get weird glitches like weapons disappearing from the select wheel, although just closing and restarting the game helped it.
Really, Vertigo 2 is mostly a worthy successor to the original Half-Life, which is HUGE. Unlike something like (say) Legendary Tales, this would be well-worth playing on flat screen if that were the extent of it. It is SUCH an amazing, varied adventure, and some great shooting action, and a smooth difficulty curve that starts off easy but gets pretty tough by the end. And, the ending is great.
My primary gripe with it though are the missable weapon upgrades. I hated constantly worrying about what I might have missed before going beyond some point of no return, and it really could have used some kind of QOL feature to let you know what was in the area before crossing a certain point when you'd permanently miss your chance to find it. Other than that, Vertigo 2 surely does fall somewhere in the top 20 or so PSVR2 games. For a similar game, I think I like Hubris a bit more for its better pacing, narrative and gameplay variation, and overall tonal consistency. But WOW Vertigo 2 is an unmissable trip.
I cant wait to play this on my psvr2...yea ok it has tech issues....but hell, very few titles come out perfect in this day and age...we should all be used to it by now, great review Bryan 👍

Great video Bryan thank you I’ve been so excited for this game and while I am still gonna get it I’m definitely disappointed to hear the bad I’m no developer but why haven’t they added DFOVR and if that really isn’t possible on unity then do static FOVR to boost the frame rate and resolution that’s my only complaint tbh I can get past the jank I’m super exited to play tomorrow!!!

Of course I’m gonna play this, I’ve been very much looking forward to it, but I have to say that low frame rates in VR are a major problem, and makes me a little less enthusiastic. Even NMS has low frame rates in some areas that kinda make it unbearable at times, but I still love that game, so while I am able to forgive many technical problems in many games, it’s still a little disappointing.
Thanks for the heads up. Definitely wont touch this until its patched sick of it being acceptable to release broken games 😮

Just chiming in here as a casual gamer with no review expertise. It's a good game, and definitely above average 👍🏻
Do you go back to update reviews or consider doing so? At least the scores? I so this because in this day and age even single player games work as like games as a service from how many patches they receive. I found that lots of new players were a bit confused why some games that are considered great received low scores early on. Switchback is a good example.
I expect I’ll add this game to the tier list I keep on Reddit to help new players choose the best games and for now this game will probably be under the good to great games, but from the praise it has received i would expect it to end up as a masterpiece in the highest tier once everything is resolved.

it drives me crazy reading comments from people who don’t use any punctuation at all just like this the whole damn comment is just one long run on sentence with no periods or commas or capitalization if I was a content creator and got lots of comments on my videos like this and had to try reading them it would drive me crazy and I would specifically call them out by name in my videos and shame them for this I’m just kidding but it still drives me crazy though learn some punctuation and how to properly speak and write like an adult 😂

Hit all the same issues playing last night, the way it moved you when firing the turret at the back of the drop ship was pretty irritating. For me exploding barrels tanked the framerate no matter where or when they go off even if I’m not looking at them. I feel like dynamic foveated eye tracking would help sharpen up the visuals a touch but ultimately help with some of the framerate issues. It reminds me of no mans sky before foveated rendering was introduced. I hope this can be added guess it depends on how easy/difficult it is to implement in unity.
I’ll wait for a patch or two.
Once again, it’s not a PSVR2 release if there isn’t at least one thing pretty disappointing about it.

@@thequimster9865 I have both the Quest 2 and 3, as well as the PSVR 2. I’d say Quest games are way more consistent in terms of quality when it comes to resolution and good reprojection, at least.
Not sure reviewers generally likening this to HL Alyx is accurate.
I was really hyped for this one but as of now it's just another unfinished/unpolished buy now pay play whenever a patch arrives game. Once the issues are resolved I'll give it a try

I know he was worried about porting it to PSVR2 because he had zero experience with that. I'm guessing he had a rough time porting it. It sucks it has more issues than the PCVR version because it is truly an amazing game.

VR is so hungry for quality titles, that overlooking a little jank is easy for this one
Aiming is completely off and it is IMPOSSIBLE to aim with any precision really. And what I mean by that is aim being really lower than you'd expect holding a controller. The only option that is supposed to adjust that doesn't really seem to do anything meaningful. It seems with all of weapons I got so far (four by now), you never know where your shots will land before you fire one (or more) bullets and see where the these bullets actually landed. I died more than a few times because of that on some of more time-sensitive sections. Couldn't figure out how to fix this. For a mostly-shooter, that's a HUGE deal breaker of otherwise a fantastic game. I like the game a lot so I will put that aside and wait for a fix. Because I feel like it takes so much of enjoyment of this great game. Also… the grenades… man don't even get me started on these :) Wish there we arcs and I could just kinda aim with that - throwing them based on whatever physics the game uses is like playing in a slot machine :)

Having played a lot of Bethesda games, I know I can deal with a couple of bugs, here and there. But the kind of bugs I'm watching in your video will completely ruin the game for me. So, I'll wait for a patch, or 2, or 3... It seems like a really fun game, and that's why I don't want anything to ruin my fun.
Most bugs in a game i've ever seen. All my save points gone. Weapons disappeared except one and after loading to the area to place the reactor pieces, the quest item is gone so the game is over ... really bad and disappointing
With a patch fixing those issues, definitly 10/10, but in August 2024, i can't recommend it. This game is not finished. Could you finish it?
Hey Mike thanks for the update. You have even more bugs than I did (which I'm really sorry to hear about). I finished the game and some of the people playing around launch reported having NO bugs. So it varies from person. You can report your issues to perpsupport@perpgames.com and hopefully they'll be fixed in the next patch
Don't regret being that patient to finish the game. The creativity is amazing. Definitly will check out the other modes some day . Thank you for all your content.

They could add option for fixed foveated rendering if eye tracking is a problem on unity, it should save a bit of performance but maybe it was not possible for some reason. I can see only one cutback comparing to PC version - no mirrors. Game should win 2023 GOTY but Steam players are usually awkward with their mass voting.
