Years ago a friend advised me to buy quality items in the sale, for years I have very rarely bought anything at full price.
I bought a beautiful Regatta jacket for walking my dog, waterproof and wind proof reduced from 110€ to 26€!!!! Fantastic quality jacket!! I like to buy expensive items like coats in the sale too!!
Nice thing about Nordstrom is they will drop the price if they find that it's cheaper somewhere else. Nice! I'll tell you a quick story about Nordstrom's great customer service. I had ordered a Halogen cashmere sweater a few years ago. The delivery tracking showed it had been delivered, but when I got home it wasn't on my porch. My area is usually very safe to leave deliveries while a person is out- but there had been a string of "porch pirating" in the area and I was a victim. I wasn't sure if I needed to make a claim first to the parcel service or to Nordstom. I called Nordstrom and you know what? They just said "We'll send you a new one". Without verifying! They took my word on in it and sent another! Amazing. They get my vote as #1 in customer service.
Marie-Anne I am a complete convert. I have lost a lot of weight and thanks to you I now have a curated chic wardrobe.
Thank you Marie-Anne. I would say my biggest 'aha' moment was perhaps realising that at 66 I can no longer follow transient fast fashion and expect to look curated. By limiting my colour palette I am how confident my (small) wardrobe will give me a multitude of looks for many years and you have shown me how to achieve this. Thank you. 👍😄

For years I have been using sales and off season shopping to upgrade my wardrobe . Most items I would never have paid full price for , It is tempting to buy something that is a colour that doesn't go or style that isn't me at times . I have been sucked in a few times over the years . I've had great luck buying cashmere in January and February sales and linen items this time of year .
Sorry I missed this livestream, but watching it now. In the past, I've made mistakes on sales thinking I'm paying less so if I don't LOVE it, it's ok. I hadn't thought of upgrading and paying more to get a better quality item, one that is on my list. This is my takeaway! Thanks for the insight Marie-Anne.
I did some shopping from the Nordstrom sale and was able to get a major item on my list - a pair of black boots. I have a difficult shoe size so I’m so happy to order it. It just received a shipping confirmation too. Also I have a small list of basics I am looking for. I spent a long time researching and then a few hours reviewing the clearance items at Nieman Marcus on a day with extra markdowns. I purchased a wool and a cashmere sweater , simple designs, high quality at great prices. Worth the work to find high quality at prices I can afford.

I always buy these off season.
I always try to buy something special on sales. Unfortunately I have the size that most people in Austria have.... therefore good items are always gone.

Great advice, MA, I use sales to upgrade, too, especially the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. The end-of-season sales don’t have as much selection, but I did get several quality linen items during this season’s closeouts. I ordered from Nordstrom on August 6, live in a major metro area, not a remote one, and am still waiting to receive my order. I got the order I made on August 8 weeks ago!

I had a tailoring course in high school and my teacher commented that She had ruined us for cheap clothing! If you are familiar with the plus size model EM or First Lady Melania Trump’s design house you will understand how tall and muscular I am and how difficult it is to buy off the rack, or even find sewing patterns to fit! The fabrics are this stretchy stuff that the description on line says 1 thing and item is totally different! I just joined a subscription service in search of a bra! I have even written to people on Etsy.com to have several made, all to no avail. But there are several stores to look into, Talbots, JosABanks, catalogs LLBean and Lands End. For people of your build Liz Claiborne does nice work, and for plus sizes Karen Scott. And Liz Claiborne also does plus size shirts with the Catherine’s store, all the box stores have closed and are now totally online! Lord and Taylor’s, the oldest dry goods store in USA just filed for bankruptcy. I so admire Princess Kate Middleton and Megan Markle they are my hope for the younger generation, Kate brought the finished look of pantyhose back!
This is a great video Marie-Anne! very good advice! during sale season, I buy what what is on my list to get for the season, if the item is sold out, I view it as it was not meant to be. I also do not buy an item just because it's on sale. I enjoyed this topic, and you should do more live streams like these.

It’s so easy to buy just because it’s on sale. If you didn’t need it full price. You don’t need it now . Lockdown has shown me I actually don’t need so much 😊
“Don’t let the sale use you” should be made into all kinds of merch -note pads, wall hangings,etc.😂💗 This is my mantra now for not buying things I don’t need👍🏻 When I shop sales, it’s for seasonal items-like tank tops are a good sale item in fall. I tend to only buy what I already have-like the same tank by the same brand, but in a different color. Anything I use frequently, consistently, I buy multiples of on sale. The one thing I’d contribute to the discussion is, don’t buy it if it’s not exactly your size-a little big, a little small-don’t do it! You’ll never wear it or if you do, you won’t feel as good as when you buy the right size-so even if it’s a good deal, if it’s not your size just let it go. That has been my falling out point-thinking I can squeeze into it, or if it’s too big, I can ‘disguise’ that somehow..no...they never get worn and just take up space. I've given up on sales. I still shop thrift stores in the winter when I have lots of time. I would rather just get good quality and exactly what I want that fits perfectly. I find the prices can affect my judgement and I end up with things that aren't quite right. My best pieces have always been from thrift shops except for a gorgeous olive green suede jacket that had just been marked down (online). I agree that it's a good idea to buy cashmere in the summer.
My Mum loved sales, but never lost her head - she always said, "it's not a deal if you can't wear it." e.g., if it doesn't fit, isn't "quite" the right colour or cut, walk away. No matter how low the sticker price, how huge the discount it's a waste of money if you wind up leaving it in the closet forever.

I have a small budget and a taste for quality so I wait impatiently for the items I need to go on sale. Sales allow me to get a lot of cashmere and the finest leather on a tight budget. It allows me to get nice silk with incredible details and other wonderful things. I hope the wool coat I ordered on sale is the quality I want but if it's not I can send it back and try a different store. It's from a store I haven't tried before so I don't know if their items are worth buying. I never know until they arrive if I will shop at a new store in the future. I have hopes that this one will be a place I will shop in the future but this one has a good reputation. They often put a few items on sale at a very reasonable price in order to get people in the door but most of their clothes are fairly high priced.

Marie-Anne, speaking of mindful purchases in the sales, can I ask for your view on what *size* a capsule wardrobe should be - how much is too much? 🛍
I have a lot of dresses and coats as I wear these most often - about 20 of each - and I love them all but is this too many to be a capsule wardrobe? Sometimes, as I’m organising my closet, I still feel like I have too much “stuff” and that maybe I’m keeping hold of too many items. I admit that I do employ a bit of ‘one day’ syndrome for items I have not worn for ages (1 year+). I like to be what I call a ‘healthy minimalist’ in all areas but find it hard to gauge what makes a good size wardrobe. What is your advice? 😘😘

What is your daily skin care routine ? And what products do you use ?
I have very bad feet with bunions and PF. I have to be very selective with shoes so I only buy those with built in orthotics. I have made some exceptions if they are shoes I might wear only out for dinner. I have found that 6pm.com sells a lot of what I like at major reduced prices, up to 70 percent off! Vionic and Finn comfort are 2 of my favorites.
I think I got the same Halogen cashmere scarf you mentioned! Lovely blue grey! Goes with so much and soft.

I am frustrated with Nordstrom anniversary sale. I pick things out and can’t get them. Others have their credit cards locked until N deems you can shop. Their quality has gone down. I feel they are gaming us and this turns me off. They have turned me away and I shop there less overall. I don’t like having my time wasted. As for your tips, I agree to use a sale to buy a better grade of basics so you have something that will last longer. Quality is always a pleasure to wear.
I buy what I need more on quality than quantity..

You can easily go crazy at the sales, thankfully the shops usually look chaotic at the sale rails so I avoid them, online is good for sales some real bargains at l K Bennett, I bought a lovely winter wool blend coat at a reduced price 🙏
@@MarieAnneLecoeur shoes are my thing too, i have a beautiful pair of velvet shoes from l K Bennett and a pair of beautiful pink suede ones which I have had for quite a few years, good quality shoes are worth the investment, I just look after them and visit my local cobbler when they need soles and heels 🙏
What would be good for me? I like that advice. Question for you. How do you wear and wash dry clean only items in a pandemic when you have to wash items more often, but can’t afford to dry clean them?
thanks only have 3 or 4 which is good it's not a ton. most of my clothes are washable in machine, 2nd amount are hand wash items. I got them before the viris a while back. Thanks!

I can’t seem to find nicer clothes made in natural fabrics. Everything seems to be made out of polyester, which I hate.

Just got an olive green field jacket from Lands End that I have wanted for years for 1/3rd the original price. With the pandemic my wardrobe needs are drastically reduced. Looking at all the trends, I already have all the ones I am interested in, right there in my closet- ribbed knit dresses, flat equestrian boots, combined grey pieces, straight leg jeans, a long denim skirt, black leather blazer and bright blue woolen coat. No need to shop further.
