Robert Rich is bedrock. Better and better virtually every time he shows up. An absolute colossus of an artist, and this record is one of the high points. Long life and good health to this man who has given more tranquility to the world than anyone can measure.
Steve Roach Robert Rich Jonn Serrie Patrick O'Hearn My "Four Horsemen" of dark/ambient music! Without these amazing artists, my life would be a lot more stressful.
@@Afurthyclays I never heard Jonn Serrie before, thanks for this. My other three would be Oöphoi, Szymon Kaliski, and Alio Die. The album Alio Die did with Robert Rich is particularly good. His collaborations with Saffron Wood and Lingua Fungi are also excellent. Side-eye here to William Basinski, who I listen to more than any of these people but I really shouldn't.
I’ve never heard of Robert rich before coming across this but I’m gonna look for more. I love ambient music and there’s a lot out there that is just dull rehashing of the same stuff but this has a different feel. There is just enough melody to engage but enough space for you to drift and fill in with your own thoughts and pictures. Loving this
He has some more active albums like Neurogenesis and Filaments. There's even a computer animated dvd with surround sound called Atlas Dei. Plus some drone-y 7 hour sleep albums like Somnium. He uses just intonation tuning. "Coils" could almost be a hit single. He even sang with a band called Amoeba.
I have listened to a lot of Ambient music, old and new. I had not listened to any of Richs work until this album. I have to say that in my own personal opinion this is the one I come back to time and time again. I consider this album to be one of the best pieces of Ambient work I have listened to.
@@whataway8180 yes I agree with your choice of that album, it’s a while since I listened to that one. U tube has been a breath of fresh air for many , including myself for giving people a chance to see what’s out there. 👍
This music helps sooth away the harshness of this dystopian modern world. I can’t tune it out completely, but can detune away its sharp bite if but for a moment.
Robert Rich could make a polka record and it would still somehow manage to be emotionally jarring. To be making records this good, this far into his career, is inspiring.
Robert Rich polka album, now THAT I would like to hear! (hahaha) He is a very nice, accessible, guy, too. I was drunk one night and we chatted a bit on Facebook.
These are very powerful soundscapes. So very beautiful and other worldly. I'm very impressed with these recordings. I'm going to treating myself to a CD copy of this.
OMG and ooohh lala, I am sucked INTO This, this is certainly not your average ambient music,I am sold!!!Excellent, will frequently be coming back for more of this yummy stuff, thank you!!!
This takes me back to the Stalker album from 1995 - ethereal, mysterious, haunting; a dark and empty world that Rich and Lustmord made beautiful in its decay. There was never anything else quite like it, until Vestiges. Wonderful to hear these sounds again.
i've been looking for this . . . this feeling . . . since i was about what . . . 3 years old? and i lived in this dark and humid house carved in rock . . . and i remembering listening to something similar to this intro . . . damn i need this on cd . . .
Love the whole piece, but specialy the last part from 49' til the end. Great work ! I love to alternate this music with even darker pieces (such Daikan, Permafrost or Nuuk from Thomas Köner), it's like a very deep, slow and meditative breathing (Köner : the air goes out, Rich : it comes back slowly... It's a bit strange to describe, but that's the way I feel it).
subtle quite brilliance. i just got turned onto Robert Rich / his music.... as a lifelong fan of atmospheric & meditative ambient sounds & musicians, it's a sense that he's right up there with the gr8 ones. [heading over to his bandcamp + website link to bookmark them now.]
So glad I bought this! Perfect backdrop for rainy Northern California soundscape. As soon as it's over, I want to put in back on again. Better sound quality than streaming (obviously).
Its like a dying love that u try to grasp on to desperately but its slowly but surely pulling away. The vestiges of something beautiful that u once held in your hand.
vasish m I Just discovered this album, and your comment describe exactly my situation right now. Strange how music like this, without any lyrics, can send deep messages to people.
I wasn't able to enjoy _Perpetual_ that much, I felt it was too homogeneous when compared to _Somnium_ but _Vestiges_ although much shorter feels to me like an extension of the atmosphere in _Somnium_ Italics don't seem to work with punctuation...
Este hombre debe participar en la banda sonora de una pelicula futurista ! excelente compositor y musico para realizar esa musica de fondo! al estilo de Blade Runner
The music is possessed, what wretched form of miscreant lies bound, haunting every note. A cursed sound, carrying corpse upon corpse, fettered to such acrid lips.
What's that hammering? It sounds like somebody outside is building a damn garage. Outside the studio like. And he probably thought hey that's too good to cut so I'll just leave that bit of tape right there where it is. That's Art.
having watched a lot of Adam Neely videos lately (cue rhythmic expectations and entrainment) I'd suspect the effect it has is to slow down the expectations of the listener
In case you don't already know, the "Stalker" album Robert Rich and Lustmord made together was inspired by the Tarkovsky film, and is one of the best dark ambient albums ever made (imo).
Man, this album sucks. Robert Rich made no good album since 20 years. This stuff sounds like cheesy new age yoga music for middle aged soccer moms. I guess this is his dementia.
I draw comics. And when I draw them, I like listening to Rich. His melodies inspire me and are the soundtracks of my comics.
Very cool my friend, very cool! For me, it’s making movies, or even reading the bible whilst listening to these things :)

You can never go wrong with Robert Rich.

yes indeed... his music is a sonic gift like steve roach
It's slows down life...My opinion.
Both are modern masters of ambient and both are imitated by many. I can see why this is so.
it just seems slow because everything else is so fast.
Yeah I totally agree him and Steve Roach plus John Serrie are damn good at taking me far away from this mad world

Hello all, my knowledge is still basic in ambient, but I didn't find much as good as this, is there?
Any tips please
Steve Annaert try the godfather of ambient, Brian Eno. Especially his album The Pearl. Also look up Loscil. Good luck!
Steve Roach is another phenomenal ambient songwriter.
EASILY on par with Robert.
Heck, I think they've done a couple of projects together.
