thank you I never go into the youtube comments, but for once i was like I need to say something you saved my life. I really like the video just need some timestamps
It's really easy to get overwhelmed by the character. A lot of variety with a lot of payoff ONLY if you master that amount of variety. So many tricks and setups. You got to get the big brain to fully use him, but getting there is a true trial.
@@HardyMJ I'm absolute dogshit with him and having a blast. I feel like I need a second brain dedicated to remembering when to reverse edge with him and also remembering to pay attention to the eddie gauge. Lots of different things to remember. But it's too much fun to summon hands, drills, and a goofy shadow monster onto your opponents who are just as confused as you are. lol
i really like how this video feels almost tailor made for players who are getting comfortable using eddie and negative edging and want to start adding basic setplay to their kit. cheers!
Thank you so much for this guide, concise and precise, I finally clicked with the character. Had my first good, positive W/L ratio session with Zato today and although I think he's not my best character yet, he's the most fun to play; I take pride in every little improvement and feel like a ""high IQ player"" lmfao
This zato guide and part 2 are the only ones I find useful at all because they're extremely practical. Other Zato guides are focusing too much on basic stuff that you could figure out in training room or is already explained in Dustloop. Great work.
Thank you so much this guide helped me out a ton. Super tough learning zato when your first character was pot. I watched other guides but they didn't show how to apply pressure or any of the setups. Mainly just showing what his buttons do lol. I look forward to seeing more zato!
Awesome guide. I plan on labing Zato. Going to take a bit to get used to negative edge again. I used to main Hilde in SC so it shouldn’t be too hard. Subbed!!!!! Thanks!!
This was very helpful, love the block strings and comobs. I would love a part 2, if you do could you go over more long range eddie block strings that could help with getting in and maybe a bigger section on good ways to get eddie in play without being risky
love the video guide. really insightful and informative. been playing guilty gear for years and this is my first time playing zato=1 and i can't wait for the second video guide! keep up the great work!
I haven't exactly watched all of this yet, but there's some really good advice and tips! A pretty good note I would say is if summoning shadow, sometimes depending on not knowing what they'll do (whether jump or backdash), it might actually be fairly decent to do neutral summon (214HS). Though not gonna do an attack immediately, it gives a fair amount of time to prepare for the mix
Other note: prioritization with buttons. If you have multiple buttons held and released all the same time, the weakest attack ( P > K > S > HS) would be typically the attack to be used. This could actually be fairly decent for stealth presses where you can hold a button for future uses (say more schmixes without having zato do certain attack).
Do you use normal controller layout or do you have a custom layout? I’m learning on controller as well and I’ve heard that mapping K, P, S and HS to the shoulder buttons make negative edging easier
mapping all four on shoulder buttons is also pretty hard unless you are comfortable using 4 fingers there. Mapping half to shoulder seems to be easiest. You only have to worry about two shoulder buttons being used often, and your thumb shouldn't have too much trouble holding two buttons at once imo.
Thanks for the great insight. I find negative edge in combos from setplay isn't all bad because I'm applying my mix and have practiced it. How should I approach negative edge in neutral through? When it isn't obv what to hold and when I'm kinda thinking too much about that and get rolled by rushdown. I found myself sometimes holding frog for an anti air but then missing out on a 2s attempt or just in general idk when to hold and when to let go outside of setplay. Do the zato/Eddie combos differ based on weights and such? I found trying to learn millia and anji that was a big thing being able to adapt mid combo. Is that the case for zato too?
i think that holding hs for the oppose is prolly better because if they jump in on you you can throw out oppose and anti air and it stop there neutral and i do think wait may effect some combos but not most i havent noticed a big difference from character to character for zato combos
I’m just lost on what’s a true blockstring and what Isn’t. I’ve used close slash into dust and it wasn’t true but I’m guessing Eddy is why it works. Just trying to get some concrete long combos that don’t have gaps for them to dp or invincible because if they know the matchup I’m sure they’ll just dp my setups.
8:22 how is he using drill and still moving Eddie without having Eddie attack? Whenever I try this Eddie does Oppose as I press heavy slash to do drill.
What's the purpose of break the law being used in 2K, 2D, 214K, 22Hs. Is it just to dodge/bait a burst from the opponent, or is there some other interaction?
well, it leaves you plus if they block the 22hs and if the 22hs hits u get a combo you shuold always do a mixup with eddy if u have him tho but if not i do that to stall time for eddy to come back because im plus and get more time to frame trap.
On controller do you use the regular button layout, or smthing custom? I also play on controller and negative edge is very tough in regular button layout. Pls tell me how u do it
For that dust combo, why did you get so much damage? For some reason my damage is WAAY lower and I don't think any actual buff/nerfs have happened yet. Is there some sort of timing mechanic involved?
You're either doing the wrong combo, or the difference is due to the fact that Ky had some risc built, as the ky bot was blocking before charge dust but i dont think the damage difference should be super significant
Mainly for personal use but feel free to use my time stamps

im sure but u gotta press somthing quick after the cancel

I cant for the life of me get that full dust combo to work. After the HS, D, S, I cant reach him when I dash back for him in the air...
