I got this car last week Wednesday and honestly all I can say is WOW. This is my first French car and I am so impressed. The quality, the tech, the drive and the smoothness is just fantastic. Before I got this car I went to view Kia, Nissan and MG and owned a Tiguan. This car blew them out the water. It even allows you to watch your favourite streaming shows when stationary!
Not another forgettable crossover, I tested one over 3 days, it kicked the shit out of the Toyota Rav 4, kicked the shit out of the Kia Sportage, kicked the shit out of Hyundai Tucson. It's very silent, all the specs, no other of those three cars I mentioned has that kind of spec. This is a premium car.
I have watched endless reviews on this car, albeit full hybrid version, and you are the first person to mention any jolts while the gearbox/electric motor combination is doing its thing. I have personally sat in one of these and the seats are amazing and the cockpit generally a joy to be in. So either you had a bad driving day or the picked the runt of the litter. However, I do strongly agree that they should have equipped the FH version with the 1.3 4 cylinder engine already in existence.
What would you actually want to see on the instrument cluster that isn’t shown? I don’t really get your point to be honest but you continually want to say it’s useless? What’s missing? To be honest, this is an interesting review of a car that will be one of the top selling cars across Europe by the end of 2024. The majority of reviews on here have said what a superb car this is but for some reason you don’t see it.
This is honestly a bad review. The car seat does not squeak or rub against the center console, I have the car and can confirm this. The instrument cluster shows everything you need including your speed, range, miles, toggle music, maps etc. It even has a live view of all the cars around you. It's awesome
Regarding your comment about only starting in electric mode and if the battery was flat then you're done. I put this to Renault UK and this is their reply. "Under normal operation, the Austral vehicle will always start with the traction battery. In the very unlikely event the battery fails or is flat, the vehicle would still start using its petrol engine and could be driven as normal." 🤔
That's odd, I was given a different account by Renault. If the battery were to go completely flat (which the system tries to make sure it doesn't), the internal combustion engine would not be able to propel the vehicle from a standstill. The fact that these e-tech vehicles do not feature a clutch, that's something I can believe. Whether the ICE can act as a mere generator to supply the electric motor directly (if the battery is dead) I don't know.
Hi I am not trying to catch you out, but it would seem that perhaps Renault give the answer the customer wants to hear. Thanks for your revue. I have now placed my order for the Austral Techno Esprit Alpine. Thanks again@@Pit-Stop .
If you got the answer from a dealership, they might just be misinformed. I can double check with Renault but they did tell us a fair few things about the e-tech drivetrain and it mentioned not having a clutch.
Hi I got the info from Renault UK Technical support team at their main offices. It is thought by some that running the petrol engine for a short while puts some charge in the battery.@@Pit-Stop
Yes, that was what I was thinking as well. Surely a system must be in place to allow for that. The question is whether the system can function and power the electric motor directly if the battery is completely dead and will not take a charge at all.
First review out of dozens that has said the change from EV to combustion was rough. Lot in this review that doesnt mesh with what ive seen and experienced with this car, along with the other car reviews on YT.
Abominably inaccurate review in every area! Is the reviewer employed by Renault's competition. Literally nothing he says is accurate, AND I OWN THE ICONIC!

Amazing vidéo, down to Earth instead of marketing BS, love your video man! Keep it up!
Thank you!
It could be a likeable better car with the 1.3 engine and EDC transmission! Or even with the hybrid EDC from Getrag AG 😮
he drove mild hybrid and not the full hybrid
Wait, didnt they have 2kw battery?
full hybrid version has that
Another forgettable crososver 🤮 even worse, a water downed mild hybrid
Not true at all lad.
you mean watered down
