The power button would be better on the outside edge of the board for the double would put me off they only put it there as it's the o of unicorn. The diamond cut spider looks rough too and the big staples. I think a mark 2 would address all these things and integrate the bluetooth and batteries inside the board itself somehow
This is a horrible board. I was so excited when I bought it and really appreciated that Unicorn shipped to Canada for free. But it only took a couple of serious hours of practice before I set it aside. The 9 in the 19 and the 6 shattered from a stray dart. Turns out I need to separately purchase a number ring. Connection drops often. You will definitely need to separately order the special screws that go on the back because otherwise it won’t sit flat against the wall and they aren’t exactly cheap. Better played using a tablet for scoring than a smartphone. My biggest problem with it is IT DOESN’T HEAL itself like a normal sisal board - holes just littered the board in no time and are extremely visible. Lastly the look of the surface is horrible. It looks and feels like you’re playing on a cork board.
Loving some of the positivity on here. This is the future imo and the technology will improve no doubt, along with board quality. Fair play to unicorn and another great review Daz. Down with the luddites! Onwards and upwards I say.
Huge fan of Unicorn dart boards and their darts, but this board needs the durability of the unicorn Eclipse Pro with the inks deeper absorbed into the sisal so the board doesn't appear worn. Even the HD boards I have wear out too fast.
I am a traditionalist and only play steel darts on a conventional bristle board but, if this clever idea sells the game of darts to new players, I am all for it.
I threw darts at one of these boards last friday, the blue writing was a shade off putting, but the biggest problem was the very shiny wires, however, for sure a board for future, cost may be an issues for regular use in pubs, one issue, scores were not always registered, pressing the next player on the pad an inconvenience, a press pad on the floor would be a better solution for me or a remote key pad for an observer
It's simply awful. Introducing unneeded technology for the sake of forcing it onto the market, at an excruciatingly high price. The gruesome staples from the 1980's were enough for me, and seeing it scoring darts which don't stick in the board was the icing on the cake. Surprised at Unicorn putting their name to something so poor.
@@DieParan00bs The Unicorn board was fine when they first started supplying the PDC. I used the Eclipse pro and the trainer boards regular, no problem. Unicorn lost it's major grip in the market, as top players moved to Target for their darts. That left a huge hole in Unicorns revenue stream, thus sourcing cheaper, less quality materials and suppliers, I reckon that's where it's gone downhill from.

Regarding a comment in the video, why the triangular wire and the indent on the triple and double. Triangular not to get bounce outs, and the indent on the triple and double? Believe prevents arguments if a dart enters a little sideways. If there was a gap, the dart could enter below. Be on the right side of the wire, but the point diagonal under the wire into a different score. IMHO
Yeah I thats part of it for sure but I probably did not put my point across well there on reflection, I should have made it a bit more clear, I was thinking more why they are using that than say the style of wiring on the Eclipse HD but I think its probably down to how the electronics are wired into the board and they probably cant use the normal spider they have on the Eclipse HD.
They just installed these at our local Rileys after a refurb and its the death of darts at Rileys to be honest. The boards are installed at the wrong height, they dont work and they charge a small fortune.
Thanks for doing this review (i see it 3.5 years late). Think I’ll take the plunge and buy one. Hopefully it might help this bloody dartitis that wont go away
So what happens if you have a bouncy out does it still count it because when you was dropping the dart in and it didn't stab into the board it still counted ???????
I already answered that in the comment below lol! As long as it registers a hit it counts it, I think the point has to penetrate just enough to cause the break in the current so if it does it will count it, but I cant see a way to cancel it in the software but they may have updated it since I last played.
I think it would be a good time, I doubt it would fully replace my regular board for serious practice and play. But having online meets and tourneys would be pretty cool. I was contemplating a soft tip connected board but I'd prefer steel so this is the one. Your channel is going to bankrupt me 😂
Hello sir, thank you for the review. Could you enlighten me, please, in two points. 1) How does this dartboard attaches to the wall? Attached on one nail, behind bullseye? 2) Is it suitable to be attached on a (‘’darts’’)stand? Thank you in advance.
hi, its the same as a normal board a screw and a metal bracket, you can see it in the video or the review link in the description. Dont see why it cant work on a stand too. Cheers :)
I like the concept and looks great and all but one of the good points of darts is the maths. It teaches people basic mathematics. Fair enough subtraction can be tough for some people but doing the score yourself is the only way you'll learn checkouts. You won't have this in the pub or in a tournament. Although its great you can play against the app if you were practicing on your own
yeah there is always going to be that argument but its already an old one as its been used against soft tip darts for 20 years or more now, but I guess things are always going to change but people said the same when calculators came out but its still not caused a problem :)
Darts Review Channel I think the new Unicorn Dartboards havn't the best Sisal Material! I bought Eclipse Pro 2 and i was schocked! I bought HD2 and I was schocked! Im a very active Dart Player, who practise Minimum two hours a day! The best Unicorn Dartboard is the classic Eclipse Pro! I don't understand the Company
I think a few years ago their boards were better but then I think they switched to a different factory and not been as good since. Not really sure what the problem is though, could be the way the fibres are formed and may even be the glue thats holding them to the board?
Darts Review Channel I bought an old Eclipse Pro last week, and i think, it is at least 9 years old! The Sisal is completely different as the newer version of the Eclipse Pro! The Sisal is so good and after one week of hard practise it looks like never used! Im so lucky, to get an rare and old unicorn dartboard!
The concept is great, but the price, quality of the board and the fact that it scores bounce outs will keep me from buying one. Hopefully in the years to come all the big dart companies will be making these and work on smoothing out the imperfections. The fact that I could play against my friends or anyone who lives far away and that you can use your own darts, are the only reasons I'd consider purchasing one. Great review as always!
Cheers! Yeah I think they will likely improve more in time, I am sure one day they will probably do away with wires too, may be use a laser projected spider or something crazy like that or who knows the way these virtual reality things are progressing they may do away with the whole thing and we could be all just playing virtual darts!

Im going to be getting a new board soon. Which board would you consider to have the most longevity/most durable? Im coming off a eclipse pro (underwhelming) and have been looking at the blade 4 and blade 4 dual core. Thought about the Gladiator 2 but they are hard to come by in the states. Thanks for all your work, love the channel.
Hi mate, I would go for a B4Dual Core but the B5DC is also worth getting when it gets to the states and I think the Gladiator 3 should be coming there soon too so that's another to consider. Any of those should be worth it though. Cheers! :)
Thanks mate! I don't think it will at this price, I cant see individuals paying so much for a board that wears, but I have enjoyed using it a lot and I know people will love it but not at that price, if they could sell it for £100 I think it would be a big hit.
Nice review Daz , Looks like it won't last very long the way it's tearing up already :( , I like the idea in general but doubt they will sell many at that price.
Cheers! I don't think it will last really, its quite holy already and that's the big problem the fact it wears out, if they could make it less than half the price then it would have a better chance really :)
I have recently subscribed to your channel, I have watched many of your dart reviews and enjoyed them, I wanted to ask if you will be reviewing the new Van Gerwen darts and also the Peter Wright darts that he won the world title with.
Sweet review as always Daz. Really liked the intro with the big pics in the background. Can we start a fund or something for John Lowe? It breaks me heart to know he is riding a scooter and delivering pizzas for a crust these days . . Merry Christmas Daz. Enjoy the Worlds ;)
Thanks mate! LOL my heart sank when I first read you John Lowe sentence I thought something had happened but then I read the rest LOL very good one that, we could just order lots of Pizzas and give him a big tip :) Merry Christmas to you too! :)
Darren great board after looking at your review after a few minutes wear on the board they seemed a lot of holes in it looked worse for wear ? After your review. Does the holes close up quickly or after a good bit of playing on the board does it look worse for wear than in the video ? That's my only reservation about it...otherwise it's great step forward ..is it worth the plunge ?? Thanks John..
I dont think it healed it that quick really, its the main problem with a system like this though, the board is going to wear out quicker than the electronics so probably not worth it unless its reduced in price.
I have a question: Their website said there may be additional charges if shipped overseas and the shipment may be held up by customs. I emailed them and they said they have no control over this. They don't know how much the charges would be, how long it would be held up or even if it will happen Do you know if this will happen shipping to the United States?
@@DartsReviewChannel Thanks for the response. I just bought one from a company on eBay. Import taxes are paid when you purchase. They explained it all very well on their Ebay page.
Thats good, its a complicated thing as sometimes I have bought things overseas and thought I had no tax to pay then a few weeks later I get a bill from the courier. Problem in the UK is we pay higher taxes for all kinds of things then even though postage and packing is paid for the couriers will charge an admin and handling fee on top of the tax, I dont mind having to pay the tax but sometimes their fees are higher than the tax which is annoying. Dont think you will have it as bad though.
Good concept, not sure how long it will last. Don't like the old style wiring with Staples. Probably wouldn't buy because of that reason but I'll always be a unicorn guy. I hear winmau lasts a bit longer but what kind of name is that? Who doesn't like a unicorn
Consider buying this board, so I m wondering is this thing still functional after two years of use, and how it looks now, what s the wear?I saw you use it in some darts reviews, maybe you could do update on how it looks like after two years, thanks.
@@DartsReviewChannel Thanks on youre replay good to know electronics still work, I would use it for accessonal games with my friends, and fore pratice I already use gladiator 3,thanks man, keep on good work.
@@DartsReviewChannel thanks for the reply, just cant get it working on the tablet. Im using a mirror app from the phone instead but if anyone knows a way of getting it to work properly that would be great 👍👍
Great review. I've just gone one. When I close the app (like the instructions say), the green light on the board keeps flashing like it's trying to connect. Is this right, I feel it will drain the battery. Also... Is it possible to buy a metal ring with the numbers on? It appears the plastic number are attached to a metal ring so I can't see how metal numbers would interfere with the scoring? Thanks.
Thanks! Its been over 7 years since I reviewed it, cant remember that much about it now to be honest lol Memory is getting worse as I get older! I think it was flashing red when I had it when it was trying to connect. Problem is I think Unicorn have changed it according to what some other guy told me recently, he said it was different to the one I reviewed and the software had changed. I sold mine a few months after I reviewed it so not sure what has changed since then. Does not sound right though, maybe best to contact Unicorn they are usually pretty quick and helpful with customers. Not sure if they updated the Smartboard with metal numbers or not, but yes Unicorn do sell rings with metal numbers which should fit.
@@DartsReviewChannel ah great thank you. I'll get a metal ring then. I was just worried it would interfere with the magnetic system. Don't know why they didn't just put a metal one on there to begin with. Yes my board is slightly different from yours. The button on the board is smaller and a bit more out of the way
@@liampardoe2877 I think it already had a metal ring, it was just the numbers that were plastic and removable but not sure if they are still using the plastic numbers
even though its steep in price and the quality may be an issue for the money being asked may put people off at least its possible to use a bristle board with a electronic scoring system but it will get better ober time the first generation of a product always has issues and unicorn will address the issues when thay release the 2nd and 3rd and so on generations of smartboard
Yeah that's a good point, I think there is room for improvement for sure, but as it stands the high price may mean it wont sell so they might have to take a big loss for it to get any momentum and start this trend of social darts that they are aiming for. I think they always knew the price would be a problem though. :)
vr darts would beat this were turn you on as if your in alli pali you throw at your bord at home then act like crowed they and you can select to play phil taylor 92 09 and few same with few other playesrs now that would be epic
Blade 5 and Unicorn HD2. Anyone know how to keep the spider on these boards from coming out of the sisal surface? It happens after several months of average play using smooth steel points so it's not due to aggressively textured points. It depresses me to see how "cheap" these major tournament boards are made. Possibly a new board made of some synthetic material and a new spider design is needed to improve board longevity. I know sisal boards are designed to wear out so more can be sold, but there's got to be a better way to make a better board.
I know the Unicorn used to have problems with the spider lifting but I thought they had sorted that. Not seen it on the B5 but what I do notice is bumps coming up which I guess if its where the spider is could be why yours has lifted. Not sure what the problem is with them but does not seem to last as well as the B4 did. I would contact Winamu and Unicorn to let them know and send them pics.
Really, seems like a good working "novelty". But, i guess you can´t change the Board and keep the internals, right? more like a hipster gimmick for the party people playing once a month. 250 quid every 6-12 months? i can´t see that happen in my house. and as a sidenote, i really like the newer hosting style of your videos. well done darren.
I mention about the board situation in the forum review, that for me is the big problem a sisal board wears out, so they should do a scheme where they transfer the electronics to a new board. That makes the £250 way too much because of that though. I have really enjoyed playing on it though I must say and its worked flawlessly, no hitches or anything, its just the price is the big stumbling block. Cheers Markus! :)
If you watch the review or read the comments you will find the answer which is NO, you can use any darts and you will probably want to because the supplied ones are awful :)
The Promo video made me laugh so much....Throwing from about 3 feet away and the best bit (and don't get me wrong, i've played against John Lowe and he is an absolute legend!) but not one person in that room would have realised he was a former pro who won World titles in 3 different decades...This board will not catch on and as per previous comments that Unicorn boards are still far inferior to the Winmau Blade family
It was holy quick as you see in video but I never had it long enough to know as someone bought it off me, but think they are still using it but it was well worn after around 6 months.
It is quite holy, I think my camera was set to a higher exposure so it looked a little worse on the video than it is but even so it still has a few holes in it which is why its a lot of money to pay for something that is going to wear out!
Unimpressed. A Nice innovative novelty but not a good value. You only threw a few darts at the twenty and I can see the wear already. Diamond wires and staples around the bull! Not a good board for league type players but would satisfy an occasional dinner party group.
Hi My Board doesnt Connect to my Smartphone anymore and it is asking for a password for Bluetooth? Can anyone tell me the password? I have tried 1234, 12345, 0000, 00000 but nothing worked...
Just figured I would throw up a comment, I was looking at buying one of these. I live in the US also they are now around 170 pounds(sorry from the US) instead of the 250. There was only 1 review on there. It said he used it for about a total of about 150 hours of use on the board. He also said the segments just eventually stopped registering the impacts. Called Unicorn and told him "the lifetime warranty is no longer valid there was nothing they could do". That pretty much told me not to buy this thing for the money it costs I would hope to have better service than this. Ill stick with my Unicorn Eclipse HD2 with DartConnect.
Yeah thats the main problem like I said in review sisal boards wear out so even if the electronics still worked the board would still eventually be useless.
My blade 6 dual core literally has the wires coming out of the board after 2 and a half months of use lmao. I had to hammer the wires back in with some wood and a hammer Every brand makes shit boards. It’s totally luck as to whether you actually get a board that actually lasts
I destroy dart boards too quickly especially the triple 1 and triple 5 lol so getting a higher end dartboard wouldn't be good for me but for people like in the beginning of this video it's great for them
Bounce outs could be a problem but overall I do like the idea. Especially when you can't be arsed to count. It sometimes slows up your play
I think it still records some bounceouts, I have not had any in normal play yet but it recorded one when I had it on the table :)
Bouncer outs should count no?
The power button would be better on the outside edge of the board for the double would put me off they only put it there as it's the o of unicorn. Why didn't they use the spider from the HD2? It looks like a really thick spider, and the staples are not really a plus either.
Not sure really but it may have something to do with how the electrics are fixed in?
Im going to be getting a new board soon. Which board would you consider to have the most longevity/most durable? Im coming off a eclipse pro (underwhelming) and have been looking at the blade 4 and blade 4 dual core. Thought about the Gladiator 2 but they are hard to come by in the states. Thanks for all your work, love the channel.
Hi mate, I would go for a B4Dual Core but the B5DC is also worth getting when it gets to the states and I think the Gladiator 3 should be coming there soon too so that's another to consider. Any of those should be worth it though. Cheers! :)
Good review. You put lots of effort in it. But I cant see this thing selling well...
Hello and thanks for subscribing, glad you like the reviews! :) Yes I will be review the MVG and Wright darts as soon as I get them :)
Darts Review Channel Hello, I am looking forward to watching those reviews :) keep up the good work Darren.
Cheers! :)
I almost have the same board with wires and staples on the spider. Old school harrows quadro 240 badly bitten up without the smart technology.
Quadro boards sell well on ebay
Daz How does it deal with bounce outs ? Presumably it still records the score.
It scores them, if you watch where the board is on the table it scores the T10 :)
nice board with steeltip darts softtip playing
yeah its a kind of hybrid of the too I guess :)
Do you have to use the blue or red darts...can you use any steel tip darts ???? Thank you
you can use any darts
I have a question: Their website said there may be additional charges if shipped overseas and the shipment may be held up by customs. I emailed them and they said they have no control over this. They don't know how much the charges would be, how long it would be held up or even if it will happen Do you know if this will happen shipping to the United States?
I have no way of knowing as I dont know anything about the customs in the U.S.
Its the only problem with all sisal boards, they wear out :)
color scheme is fine to me. I'm red/green color-blind.
Consider buying this board, so I m wondering is this thing still functional after two years of use, and how it looks now, what s the wear?I saw you use it in some darts reviews, maybe you could do update on how it looks like after two years, thanks.
I would just get a normal board really, the board wears too badly but the electronics are still fine.
@@DartsReviewChannel Thanks on youre replay good to know electronics still work, I would use it for accessonal games with my friends, and fore pratice I already use gladiator 3,thanks man, keep on good work.
No problem. if your in the UK you could buy mine lol
@@DartsReviewChannel 😆
Hi bud, is this board compatible with a chromebook
good question, the app is on Android so if such apps work on a chromebook then I would guess so
Can i use the app on a tablet do the scoring is on a bigger screen? The board wont connect on the tablet but only on phone 😢
As far as I remember it can be used on any android device :)
@@DartsReviewChannel thanks for the reply, just cant get it working on the tablet. Im using a mirror app from the phone instead but if anyone knows a way of getting it to work properly that would be great 👍👍
@@box0ftricks116 maybe try contacting Unicorn, they may have had others with same problem :)
Did you try it with titanium tips does it work?
never tried it with ti tips so not sure, its packed away now though.
Thanks anyway, regards. @@DartsReviewChannel
@@DartsReviewChannel Yes that's right. So you think if I replace the whole metal ring with metal numbers it should be ok?
@@liampardoe2877 yeah, I think the board only scores when the darts enter anyway and it already has a metal spider
even though its steep in price and the quality may be an issue for the money being asked may put people off at least its possible to use a bristle board with a electronic scoring system but it will get better ober time the first generation of a product always has issues and unicorn will address the issues when thay release the 2nd and 3rd and so on generations of smartboard
Yeah that's a good point, I think there is room for improvement for sure, but as it stands the high price may mean it wont sell so they might have to take a big loss for it to get any momentum and start this trend of social darts that they are aiming for. I think they always knew the price would be a problem though. :)
John the pizza delivery guy is actually John Lowe?
Yes! Yes he is.
That was a huge pleasure. Thanks DRC!
what happens when you need to rotate the board will the scores be all wrong?
I explain in the review but cant remember where it was, but you just tell the app where the new location of the button is when you rotate it.
Do any darts work on it? Or is it just the ones that it comes with that register?
As I say in the review any darts work on it, as long as they are steel tip darts that is :)
Darts Review Channel Thank you, sorry I was watching it when the football was on 😃
Cheers
Darts Review Channel It looks brilliant though, think that'll be on the birthday list, or the winmau blade 5
Well Happy Birthday when ever it is :)
vr darts would beat this were turn you on as if your in alli pali you throw at your bord at home then act like crowed they and you can select to play phil taylor 92 09 and few same with few other playesrs now that would be epic
Yes and it will happen eventually :)
You throw pretty well with those darts! Maybe they'll be your next set? LOL Maybe a review on them as well!
What those blue plasticky darts! They are horrible! Feel like they are slipping out my fingers every time. :)
LOL I love your channel! Keep up the great work! :)
I think Noah had the same Spider on the ark! Good Review darren, not for me, Chalk is cheaper than batteries.
LOL I think its to do with the electronics. Cheers Kev :)
Darts Review Channe さ
Can we add animations?
dont think so, not seen any options so far for that.
Hello I think it a very idea but the dartboard are not is good it would be a lots better if was done like winmau Blades5 dartboard
All boards wear though so they may be should have made a system that could be added to any board, think that would have been a better idea :)
21:20 Some kind of velocity pressure sensor at work there. Bit like the sensors you get on electronic drum kits, midi controllers.
I think Unicorn said its just a small electric current and the dart point when magnetized breaks it.
@@DartsReviewChannel oh, there I go again over thinking. Probably subconscious memories of that thing Ivan Drago was punching in Rocky IV.
LOL :)
20:30 But it doesn't detect throwing from 6 inches though which is considered cheating in most places ;)
LOL people will always look for ways to cheat on things like this, pointless to me as your only cheating yourself :)
Looks worn already
do u have to use the darts that are sent in the box
If you watch the review or read the comments you will find the answer which is NO, you can use any darts and you will probably want to because the supplied ones are awful :)
I know I wrote the comment as I was watching thanks 😂
LOL no worries! Merry Christmas :)
It's interface is plain can we upgrade to advance grafics
not as yet, dont think they have updated it so far.
Hi bud can you use iPhone for the app I’m thinking of getting this board great review my man 🤜🏻
Thanks! Yes you can :)
@@DartsReviewChannelthanks for reply bud, how long did the board last like keep scores automatically?
@@stephendonnelly3921 not sure as someone bought it off me
The Promo video made me laugh so much....Throwing from about 3 feet away and the best bit (and don't get me wrong, i've played against John Lowe and he is an absolute legend!) but not one person in that room would have realised he was a former pro who won World titles in 3 different decades...This board will not catch on and as per previous comments that Unicorn boards are still far inferior to the Winmau Blade family
Yeah if it was for real its highly doubtful they would have known who John was :)
It’s about getting people involved in darts a new audience, it’s not for the keen darter who plays league or county is it!
I'm curious on how the button holds up when hit with steel tip darts ?. I would hit that going for doubles a lot
its pretty robust
Can we add more than 4 players?
Yes
How long did the board last?
It was holy quick as you see in video but I never had it long enough to know as someone bought it off me, but think they are still using it but it was well worn after around 6 months.
Wait, £250 for a Unicorn-board you can't rotate? That's like £250/hour.
You can rotate it.
My fault I should probably watch the video :)
how much is it.
same to u mate
It's a good idea but for the money I'd take a Gran Board 2 to be brutally honest. Good review though :)
Cheers Josh :)
The dark dartboard segments looks battered by the end of the video.
It is quite holy, I think my camera was set to a higher exposure so it looked a little worse on the video than it is but even so it still has a few holes in it which is why its a lot of money to pay for something that is going to wear out!
Nice man
Cheers! :)
Unimpressed. A Nice innovative novelty but not a good value. You only threw a few darts at the twenty and I can see the wear already. Diamond wires and staples around the bull! Not a good board for league type players but would satisfy an occasional dinner party group.
I think its really meant as you say an occasional party group activity but still a bit expensive for that sadly, the wear is not great though..
good review seems like a good product :)
Thanks mate :)
Hi
My Board doesnt Connect to my Smartphone anymore and it is asking for a password for Bluetooth? Can anyone tell me the password? I have tried 1234, 12345, 0000, 00000 but nothing worked...
Might be best to contact Unicorn, I dont remember myself and I dont have the board or the mobile I used at the time :)
Is that darts bored rotatable
Yes, you change the button location on the app to whatever new position is :)
John Lowe delivering pizzas! 😂 I've seen it all now...BTW, the camera doesn't like that colour of top you're wearing with the green screen does it?
no it did not
Just figured I would throw up a comment, I was looking at buying one of these.
@@DartsReviewChannel Thanks for the reply. Keep up the good work man.
Cheers will do my best! :)
But this is not sizal board
it is
Updated review?
no longer have it
just like any other Unicorn board.... Rubbish! I'll stick to winmau.
My blade 6 dual core literally has the wires coming out of the board after 2 and a half months of use lmao. I had to hammer the wires back in with some wood and a hammer
Every brand makes shit boards. It’s totally luck as to whether you actually get a board that actually lasts
can't believe how Damaged it got so quick this could be a bad Thing and @250 pounds each not good
Yeah that is the main problem, the fact any sisal board will wear makes the price harder to bare really.
horrible looking board, fat wires that protrude inside the bull, no thanks, maybe make one that looks like the eclipse
how does it turn off
been a while but from memory I think it just auto offs if left idle after a length of time
I destroy dart boards too quickly especially the triple 1 and triple 5 lol so getting a higher end dartboard wouldn't be good for me but for people like in the beginning of this video it's great for them
Yeah I think that is the target market, kind of beginners and very casual darters. Not sure that market is big enough at this price though.
