Great video. Instruction was excellent. Wish all videos were this easy to follow.
Thanks for your great step by step video, really helpful 🙏
Great job as always! :).
Thanks for the video, very informative and concise. I'm thinking to take out the cluster to add the chrome gauge rings for an updated look!
Nice, that would be similar to the later E46 models that had the chrome/brushed aluminum trim rings!
Thanks helped for me
Tahnkyou.!
Thank you for the helpful video. I have a question, should the battery be disconnected when taking out cluster? Also can I lock the car after taking out the cluster? I want to leave is parked on the street while I send the cluster for repair.
Very good video. Thanks. I too driver my bmw e39
Thank you Rabil
If I just buy a new one does it have to be programmed, also can you change the orange color?
What about the word "belts" in "Fasten Seat Belts"? Isn't that also a bulb issue? It does not look like a pixel problem. And there were two more bulb on the left of the back of the cluster that could have been replaced?
Good call! You're probably right. I'll have to replace the others when I go back in there for pixel repair.
Does the cluster have a BATTERY associated with the system?
Not a separate battery inside, if that is what you mean. Bench tests are just done with a spare battery and leads.
Thanks for sharing........I need have similar issue, some of the pixels appeal to be burned out or work sporadically. I believe the ribbon needs to be replaced in which the speedo needs to be disassembled......I also order silver rings kit for each of the gauges.
I might attempt that repair but boy it looks time consuming and on the difficult side. You can see all the pixels missing in my car too. Where are you getting the repair kit?
There are ribbons on eBay that you can buy and a few YT Vids on replacing them.....You also need a tool to remove the all of the needles on the gauges or you will destroy them........I have not ordered the tool or ribbon. There are a few places that you can send the instrument cluster and they can replace it. The kit is for silver rings

I was wondering too, if it is the ribbon contacts that are causing the "Dead Pixels" - if it just needs to be "reattached or pressed" to get the circuit to connect and get it work and not be replaced.....-It is literally like tape or if you have worked on laptops - connecting ribbons there. ..You would still have to disassemble the speedo to do it.
@@MrCuckoobox Generally the ribbon is partially destroyed during removal. You may be able to just do the ribbon / tape, but that means you hope the glass is OK.
Ay your vid are always good an you are well spoken much respect brother always like vids keep it up do you have one with cylinder
thanks bro I appreciate it!
Hey bro i got a 530i 2003 an my car has like a knocking miss fire an i check cylinder while my car was on i disconnect each cylinder had same change of motor sound but the forth one stayed the same never change do you think it's cylinder coil
trapboiog Guerrero could be, pull the plug and check it too. You can also erase the codes with scan tool and then start the car - sometimes erasing the misfire codes resets things and it will run fine again.
Ok an can AutoZone do it for you with regular scan an yeah i unplug all of them while my car was on an i unplug the ignition coil an all drop but number five
trapboiog Guerrero yes they should be able to. Or just get a $20 actron pocket scanner at Walmart and erase yourself. It’s sounding like a dead coil pack. You can get away with changing just the one coil. But do change all 6 spark plugs at the same time.
Hi, I have a question regarding your experience with your E53. I want o buy one like yours..... Are they reliable ... from 1 to 10 10 being very... tell me according t your experience.--- Thanks
Gustavo Vergel well Gustavo our 3.0i E53 has allowed me to make 70 videos of repairs and that’s not recording all of them. They have their known failure points like most cars, but make no mistake, they are maintenance heavy. Used BMW are much cheaper to purchase than a used reliable Honda or Toyota, but BMW will require time and parts over the years. I would say the 6 cylinder is the one to go for, reliability maybe a 9/10 in terms of failures that result in break downs. Build quality overall is a poor 5/10. They’re made in the USA so not very good. Overall I have mixed feelings about them, it’s only a good value if you can do all of the work yourself and follow UA-cam guides.
@@BIMMERZEITT Thanks for your prompt response... It is very well appreciated. Have a great week. GV
Gustavo Vergel you too man!
Please use a plastic wedge for the wood trim
The way it's stuck there, you'd break 10 plastic wedges. Sturdy screwdriver + electrical tape works great.
Just pulled mine off with 2 plastic shivs.@@alexgunner1882
Ur the one taking it off?we miss something?is that ur car?
@@alexgunner1882 ua-cam.com/video/1N6CsWLxYeU/v-deo.htmlsi=2dOLJr4kcpcd2xv9&t=85 I have no problems with Hazet plastic wedges
My 540i 4.0 runs rough no check engine lights
Devon, scan it anyway and look for pending codes. If nothing, keep an eye on it and they should pop up. It could be so many different things, but sometimes it takes a little bit for the sensors/computer to pick up that something isn't operating within spec. Hope that helps.
Nice video. I would have checked bulb operation before I put the trim pieces back though, to eliminate double work if there was still a problem. Also because of age of this series the plastic trim pieces get brittle, so don't over tighten the screws. You might have mentioned the pixel problem that is common to E39s and other BMWs from this era. Videos for that repair exist but it's more complicated; I chose to pack up the cluster and send it off for repair. I believe it cost approx $100.
Thanks, good to know. Yeah I didn't want to talk about too many different items within one video to keep the topic on track. But yes I definitely need to pixel repair on this too, which is a difficult DIY from what I've seen. Where did you send your cluster to?
I used Bimmeronly, a company in California. Turnaround time was good.
@@BIMMERZEITT I have a company that I've found on line and he charges $125 to fix the pixels. He's also here in Cali!
What the company?
Don't have a right button
Changing out the bulb alone will not correct the LED panel. WHENEVER DOING ANY TYPE OF ELETRICAL WORK ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF THE BATTERY. You'll have a 10 MM open-ended wrench inside the tool kit located inside the trunk. You should replace the whole set of bulbs as it'll save you from pulling out the cluster a week later just to replace the other bulb(s) you didn't replace. Just like headlights, when one headlight takes a shit, don't just spend $120 for one HID bulb go the extra mile and spend the (+/-) $240 for both sides. Final thought, You DRIVE A BMW WHY NOT SPEND THE EXTRA 3 OR 4 BUCKS AND BUY THE FACTORY PART. I hate the thought of you buy the cheapest fuel for your Bimmer too? ALL BMW OWNERS NEED TO PUT SUPER AND GO GET GAS FROM EXXON/MOBIL OR SHELL STATIONS.YOU GOTTA PAY TO PLAY!
Do not use a screwdriver to Pop of the plastic trim, and disconnect your battery, and do not be like a caveman to take the cluster out, very clumsy,
Your E39 has real wood trim, not faux.
Chad Mefford good to know thanks Chad
The Osram box has these codes on it: BX8.4d, 2452MFx6, 097.125
