Once you remove your cluster, you will notice that at the rear of the cluster is a box that connects to the actual cluster through a wide wire ribbon connection. You can disconnect that ribbon and then slide the box to your left and it should come out. You would also need a cluster from a 96 or 97 model. 98 and up models as shown in this video will not work. Great Video. Very helpfull indeed. I have a 2000 E39 530D and the ABS kicks in but only under around 6 mph. ABS light functions as it should. No fault lights on dash. Read codes and no faults found. a Local garage and BMW specalist have both drawn a Blank. Any ideas?
We've had an issue with a 00 528i where the brake pedal pulsates when pressed. No abs or traction lights on. Cause of pulsating when braking was bad abs module.
Some basic code readers do mileage correction, advanced readers do, or BMW software like ISTA/ Rheingold or maybe INPA or do to an indy or dealer, but like he said, if it's previously used the tamper dot will be there unless it's also coded to your VIN

My odometer led went dead also. I was gearing up to follow this well documented process then tried a different approach. I banged my fist on the dashboard and the miracle occurred… it came back on!!! I realize it is just buying me some time before the problem recurs. Much easier process to try first.

my 1997 528i BMW speeder meter clock never works everything else works I n the cluster works I change all wheel speed sensor and it still never works is there any ideas at all I will greatly appreciate thanks in advanced.
it's probably your abs block that is faulty, if you have permanent or intermittent abs warning light your abs unit is dying, it's a common problem on e39s
My car is a 02 530i I’ve been trying to order an instrument cluster but mine has 3 connections in the back and the ones that I’ve received had only 2. Is there a way that those could be use in my car?

Dont even try it. 9 out of 10 times, you will just damage the whole cluster by trying to remove gauge needle. I haven't been successful out of the four times i've tried it. Not worth the hassle.
@@bimmermerchant wish I read this comment earlier xD you live and learn. Broke mine resoldered the motor, speedo always showed 20km faster than I was going. Made car feel super fast.
if you buy a used cluster to fit your car it must be the same part number or it will not work ,,,,,,,i have used AK speedo in sterling scotland for cluster repairs great service

No, different clusters. Cluster from 540 or 740 should work with your 03 530

+Chris Christopher Most of the time, it a sign that your transmission is going out and will need to get replaced soon.

How do you change the instrument cluster lights from red to blue?
You see those black circle connector things on the back? Those are where the bulbs are for the cluster. All you have to do is change the lights.
