Why is it that when someone says "stranded on an island" its always a tropical one? There are cold islands too.
because when people are stranded its commonly from a plane crashing, and planes fly over tropical islands far more than cold ones because people usually go on vacation to warm places, not cold ones

I think its because people will have alot of sources from food to water.. even shelter.. tropical island have unique biodiversity too so more interesting interactions
If you get stranded on a seasonal island, depending on the season really depends on how long you survive. If it's June, July, August then the chances of survival are higher, but if it's December, January or February I would give you 1-3 days max! Hypothermia will set in after one night, then you might as well give up! Personally, I can just about move when it's cold, so if it's freezing without the proper equipment I'm as good as dead.
In saying that, there is a film called alive, where a football team get stranded in the Andes. The only survivor decided to walk down the mountain. A good film, but not for the light hearted.

You'll first have to starve. Also, depends on where you crawl up. If it's in an area with no shade , you'll skin will turn red, peel, and you'll die of dehydration. As your corpse rots in the sun with puss streaming out of all of your holes (including your pores) certain animals in your location might use your decomposing body as a shelter or an incubator for their offspring.
Your natural instinct would kick in after 10 days without technology no matter how urbanised you are it takes 10 days to resort back to your primal instincts so you'd likely curl up in a ball for maximum 2 days until your extremely dehydrated then you would undoubtedly do whatever you could to find any liquid.

I never had a friend in nearly all my life. I survive without anyone. My beloved mom and dad were true heroes of humanity in my life. They are dead a long time ago. I never need inanimate objects like "Wilson". I will endure without any friends after I adapted without friends. Making friends is nearly impossible because I am a one-eyed deaf beast that fears many people to flee and rejected me. 😱

Most islands large enough to crash a plane on will have some sort of forested area. There are lots of small dead islands but the chances of being really close to one of those is much lower
x99 have you ever Been by the coastline of Southern Norway? There is almost nothing of food on the islands and There are so many that hitting one is not that unlikely. There is trees and grass but almost zero berries or wildlife.
Flights over very cold places like that are not _nearly_ as trafficked as flights over tropical and warm places because tropical warm places are where people most want to go. So out of 100 plane crashes that are close to an island, a significant portion of them will be somewhere much warmer than norway. Some of them might be there, or somewhere else very cold, but a huge majority will not be. You have to think about statistics here... Just because theres 10,000 islands somewhere freezing and 10,000 somewhere warm doesnt mean plane crashes around them will be 50/50, *dude*

Drogowit Pomorski well... There should be some driftwood or something there, same as rocks. Making a spear is easy and you could easily catch fish from shallows but I don't think it's good since standing in cold water will make you sick so focus on catching land animals like deer

I would move 3 up to number 2. Because water is more important that food as you said people can live up to 3 weeks without food but only live 3 days without water, however it would only be a few hours before you started getting signs of dihidration and by the second day you couldn't do anything because of weakness, headaches and the urge to urinate but not being able to go.

This is blatantly misleading. Humans can't survive more than 3 weeks without food especially if you are doing non stop hard labor during that time. You would run out of essential minerals and vitamins. The Guiness record holder cheated a little since he still took multivitamins during his fast.

Assuming you find yourself on a tropical island, would tearing up your clothes be a viable option? I mean using the fabric to hold structures together, help stop bleeding, etc. Or is it not worth sacrificing clothes? I feel like (if all civilization is gone for the island) clothing would just become a burden after a while

bottom line: stay near electricity at all times.
An easier way to start a fire is just use a larger stick with some small notches cut into the side of for about 8 inches.
Rub it on another stick, (thicker) with some notches made into it width wise and put some dry grass around there.
Ive actually got better results when i tried cutting the notches with a sharp broken rock, made it more uneven making more friction.
Playing the game 'The forest' is a good example for this as you start the game stranded on a big island via a plane crash

People usually underestimate the importance of shelter and overestimate the importance of food.
Staying dry and warm is your first priority, unless you're lucky enough to be on a nice tropical island.

Getting stranded on a island is rather hard these days - too much traffic on water plus likely regular planes, adventurers etc. Getting lost in some back-country wilderness is however quite real.
