I love this song. Back in about 96 I left my door unlocked and my buddy caught me rockin out infront of the mirror.... he still brings it up now and then.
I remember hearing this song in the 90s on Much Music and instantly loving it. I've listened to it on the first day of spring every year since. It always comes back to me.
I just found out that my friend knows the person who wrote this song. I just thought I’d chime in real quick, just in case this songwriter sees the comment section at any point: Thank you for being so open, loving, and caring when this song was channeled through your soul. This song is such a gift to humanity, and I’m extremely grateful that you were able to document the sentiment within that gorgeous melody and production. It’s one of the few songs I’d put at the top of Mount Everest. Thank you....and God bless you!
I was 16 in 1995 and looking back I feel really lucky for that. I used to say the 90's were the 60's turned upside down. Most of my friends dressed like they were in Led Zeppelin or something and we all had hair down to our Asses. I was more of a Hard Rock Guy myself. Back then people were identified by the music you listened to. We had to buy Albums for $15, even if there was only 2 songs we wanted. Therefore young people really stuck to one Genre of music because it was expensive AF. People were identified much more by what type of Music they listened to. ie, Rockers, Hippies, Housers, Rappers, etc.
song was epic and still is, tripped out to this song when i was like 15, not about the drugs though, this really is a song ahead of it`s time, could of came out yesterday and would still rock
Great song, I like the twist at the end of the video. I heard on the radio the lead singer Paul Jago is now working at an architecture firm in Phoenix. Go figure, he should reform the Gandharvas. All the Canadian rock bands are coming back, Wide Mouth Mason, Rusty, Moist, also I think Limblifter and Age of Electric should too.
Wow, only 13000 views...Such a good song...all I could remember were the words and had to search forever just to find who sang it ..but then. :-) ..brought back some great memories. That guitar rif just gets stuck in your head, like a bloody trance
its hard to get my guitar teacher to play this anymore. Just to let you all know he's Brian Ward one of the guitarist for The Gandharvas. he told me the makeup artist for Hell Raiser did some of this.
This is my favourite song.... all time. To this day my buddy gives me a hard time about the time I forgot to lock my front door and he walked in me rockin it out in front of the mirror with my guitar in hand giving my best rockstar pose.
The Gandharvas were an alternative rock band formed in 1989 in London, Ontario. The band formed in 1989 as The Droogs (later The London Droogs), and released a self-titled EP in 1991. They changed their name to The Gandharvas in 1993, after Gandharvas, who are musical spirits in Hinduism. In November 1993 they signed with the label Watch Music and in 1994 released their debut album as The Gandharvas, titled A Soap Bubble and Inertia. The album included the single "The First Day of Spring", which was named Song of the Year (CASBY Award) by The Edge 102.1 in Toronto, and was nominated for MuchMusic's Video of the Year.

Feeling this song even more in 2021, with a year of the pandemic behind us, and still no way to know how long it'll last now.

That's exactly what getting out of the house after a long winter feels like!

Spring 2021!
A fitting song for today! (Mar 21st)
the singers voice always reminds of Layne Staley on this song. Such a great sound.
I was thinking Perry Farrell (more during the chorus)
Happy first day of Spring!! Spotify still doesn’t have this =o(
Dara F Apparently, they did a radio version of this song, because the one on the album and the one on Spotify sounds slightly different than this
