  • Randy Newberg, Hunter is in New Mexico chasing pronghorn. This hunt turns out to be a lot more challenging than originally expected. A day of scouting turns up two bucks, neither of which are what New Mexico is known for. Another day of hunting provides no new bucks. Going into Day Two shows a new buck has shown up overnight and he is a very nice buck.
    This episode is exactly as the show aired on Sportsman Channel in Season 5 of Leupold's Fresh Tracks with Randy Newberg

    Thank you Randy for sharing so much information in your videos. So many hunting shows entertain you but don't educate you very much. You're an Intellectually Generous person and I appreciate that.

    Randy and your team has created a hunting show I can finally follow. It’s not filled with just the kill shot buy who know who. It is what real public land hunters are like. Enjoying the time with family and friends sometimes be successful and sometimes not. Good weather bad weather, mistakes. But most important having a great time. Keep up the great work.

    Randy you are the man. Thanks for representing the common man! You are 100 percent spot on about antelope hunting. It is the best fun and the only hunt that qualifies as a vacation (R&R) in my book. Thanks for not getting hung up by measuring your ego by the yardage the animal died at or you shot it at. What really makes a hunter is his fieldcraft. Of which you sir are a master of. Cheers!

    Thanks Randy for reminding me how much fun an antelope hunt can be. It's been 30 years since my last Wyoming hunt and my son was only 14 at the time. Seemed easy then but we need to try this again maybe 2018.

    I was drawn for an antelope hunt in New Mexico Unit 32 this coming October. I harvested my first cow elk this past season and am very excited for this antelope.

      Good luck. I hope you were assigned a good ranch. My son and I drew Unit 31 ten years ago and we were assigned a marginal ranch. Took the only two bucks we saw.

    Thank you for sharing all of this information, Randy. I have had an obsession with researching pronghorn this last year and have watched hours upon hours of your videos and podcasts. I am going to buy my first preference point in Wyoming this year and hope to hunt it in 2020 or 2021. I will continue to use your videos for research. Thanks again!

    I got a nice buck way east of Rapid City back in the mid eighties. I hunted it just like you did except I didn't have a camera man for company. I got a ride back to town by an old Sioux Indian and his grandson and gave them a hind quarter for their trouble. I used a Ruger M77 in 257 Roberts.

Must say you and your fellow hunters (crew) bring it home, thanks for letting us see it in all its glory. One question, of all the meat you bring out which do you like the best? Nice shot on the antelope, lots of movement in that hunt wha?.......cheers....... I'm.starving now after that fry pan showed up!

    i got my first pronghorn last week. also happens to be my first big game. it was opening day muzzleloader in colorado and the first place me and my bud came across happened to have a buck and doe. it was opening day about 8am. we hoped out, he had a pronghorn decoy i followed low behind him, we walked up to them closing about 800yards. we got withing 90 yards, i sat next to him, elbow on knee. she was a little pacy so my bud made that grunt noise, she stopped broad side and i shot. she went maybe 30 yards and stumbled down. it took a couple hours to process what happened lol it was real fast

    Hey Randy,
    What spotting scope from Leupold would you recommend for Rocky Mountains? Would the Kenai be too much scope or would the Ventana do decently well?

    • @williamwashington6735
      @williamwashington6735 5 років тому

      In fact, what scope have you used for Fresh Tracks?

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  5 років тому +1

      I have a new Santium 80mm that I am using this season. I normally used the 60mm Gold Ring, the best combination of size, weight, and glass quality I know of in a spotter.

      There's no secret recipe or magic trick to hunting deer. You have to get out and put in the work scouting and hunting if you want to be successful.

    • @Fresh_Tracks

      I prefer it over elk and deer. I've never had a bad pronghorn and I've eaten a lot of them.

      @@Fresh_Tracks Nice, so far I've only had deer and elk and I love elk. This is next on the list along side oryx. Gotta love that hard earned organic meat.
