Haha!! I was literally about to comment this exact thing, then I saw this 💀
@@2for2outdoors86 lol the best part is they clearly started the handshake before it cut to them, and continues after the scene cuts forward

I'm still confused how this channel doesn't already have 5 million+ subscribers. This is constant phenomenal content 👏
It's the killing they can't deal with. People like the eyelashes already taken off their burgers
I was wondering the same thing. But yeah, people need to grow up about where their food come from.
@@oralynndevereaux7609 And it's a damn shame. Surely to each their own of course, I'm not here to tell anyone what they should/shouldn't like, but man, there's something about being able to go back to our roots and provide for our families straight from the source, instead of hitting the grocery store to buy processed crap. And I've never hunted a lick in my life. Not even a squirrel. But boy would I like to thanks to Steve and the show.
I think speaking as someone who lives in Europe and can't realistically hunt here, hunting is a very strange concept. The idea of hunting shouldn't be strange though and getting through that barrier of "This is weird..but it's not weird it's natural" is the main part of it. To my mind going out and hunting is more ethical than grabbing a slab of beef at the supermarket, but it's just stumbling over that initial mental hurdle that's so hard for so many I think.

My whole perception of guns changed after watching how respectfully Steven handles himself. Love this show.
I appreciate your honesty. Us hunters have learned that there are MANY, who's perceptions of guns, gun owners and hunters change as they learn the truth about most of us and let go of their original misconceptions. I enjoy exposing people to new thoughts and ideas about all of these things and sharing the newly found joy they get (eventually at some point) when engaging these activities themselves.
A gun is just a tool. Intentions of how that tool is used is all upon the handler...no different than a hammer or a car.
@@heatto162 there are very huge differences.
I'm a vet and crappy hunter. I understand the lethality it has and must be treated with a lot more respect then a hammer.
Thing is, a lot of the gun nuts treat them as toys. Something you buy accessories for and flaunt around because they want to compensate for something.
You have people like Steve here, keeps his gear locked up, transports it properly, and sees it as a tool to hunt. And dumbasses who drink too much and shoot cans to impress their friends
I personally learned from this show that it’s way healthier for us and more humane to the animals to hunt and eat like this. Thank you Joe Rogan for introducing me to Steve and these ideas.
i'm really glad that it changed. I love hunting every year, although I don't like blind or treestand hunting. Hunting should be something you work for and have respect for.
7:30 damn, that part got me a little choked up. Its nice to see Steve hunting with someone who you can tell really respects the animals that they hunt.
facts
Seems pretty contrived to me. It's definitely an American thing to do the whole sad face display after shooting an animal.
Never been a hunter. Never had family that hunts. But after binge watching this show, I truly want to take a trip of my own, harvest my own animal and field dress it myself. The reverence Steve shows for these animals is awe-inspiring and is truly the essence of how our ancestors lived.
Do it man! It’s been in my family for generations it’s a great thing to learn so you can also ‘pass it on’!!
I don't come from a family who taught me to hunt. I taught myself over the last handful of years after watching shows like this to help me along. Harvested my fourth hog last month. It's a great feeling.
So, did you go any hunts?
Non hunter here, but the shot Steve takes on that buck, seems like the most painless way a mammal could go. Well done.
Honestly how many of die of old age.. almost none they all die from hunger thirst or being killed by another animal
@@tylern1371 it's nature
@@sav6732 thats his point, their natural deaths are almost always with way more suffering than what a hunter gives. So if the animal is gonna be eaten might as well go out that way when its time

These two guys are the kind of hunters I've wanted to hunt with for years but never seem to meet... so I hunt solo. I love that it's not about trophies it's about food and respect for that food for these guys. Hunting needs more ambassadors like Steve and Cody. When Cody was feeling the feels after the harvest I totally related to that, it's taking a life and there is a responsibility that comes with that. When I saw every part of that animal strapped to his pack I wanted to stand up and cheer.
Dude, that was the coolest shot of a shot I've ever seen 16:30
I forget what its called but the turbulent air trailing behind the round was sick to see captured on video, you dont see it to often
Looked like an incendiary round, wow!
Vapour trail
Clean kill
Though I wish they would mention their set up...rifle, caliber etc.
Hi Steven, just wanted to thank you for living and sharing some of us dreams. Actually I can’t thank you enough for sharing your ethical passion to harvest nature’s gifts. I loved your Sonoran Coues Deer hunt (my home state) and all the memories you sparred from when I hunted with my Dad on those blessed high desert rolling hills. May God bless you and your family this Christmas and May 2021 bring health and much more success. Stay healthy!. Truly: Jorge R. Camacho Ron
Nice man. Got some dude trolling me for a comment like yours. Let it get under my skin. God bless you man
@@joelmcmahan7386 you as well Joel, thanks for your kind words🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Cody and his pops are by far my favorite hunting partners, the spiritual aspect makes them true men of the lands !
Fun fact: Pronghorn Antelope evolved to be the second fastest land animal in competition with the extinct American Cheetah, Miracinonyx.
Interesting, one more example of competition creating great things.
A pity they aren't here anymore
Correct except they are not an Antelope species, they are actually most closely related to a giraffe.
Jim Hefflefinger recently debunked that myth. These guys were around before the fossil record showed any American Cheetahs
@@abemagana2182 ; Got any specific paper I could look at?
Cody's rifle is beautiful.... the camera man knew it too.
Thousands of dollars in that rifle and he said
"So thankful this will feed my family" like that's all that matters.
Like come on dude! I hunt and even I know we all do it for the fun. In todays day and age, the meat is just a bonus if we are all being completely honest.

I lived in New Mexico for 6 years and man what I wouldn't give to try those red chile antelope tacos 😋😋
16:30 , that was the best filmed shot.
These series takes me back to the days when we used to watch nature shows on TV. Everything was raw and un-filtered. Keep it up!
Literally see the bullet flying through the air. Must be dusty closer to the ground.
You can see the bullet trail coming off the .300 Winny. Straight as an arrow.
16:29 god I love those vapor trail camera shots
My favorite part of MeatEater is it's all about the hunt and the animal, not about gear. Most "hunting" shows these days are just advertisements for a bunch of gear. I also love the recipes, makes me hungry every time
These men are so on point in regards to NM chile. I tell people we're not trying to see who's chile is more macho in terms of heat. New Mexicans use chile for the flavor it adds to the dish! 🌶️ (Lol my dad was born in Hatch)
When he said “Red Chili Antelope Tacos” I swear if there was a button that would instantly sell everything I own and transform it into a one room cabin, three decent rifles and 200 acres of wilderness I would have smashed it.
same dude, just gotta convince a girl that is the life lol
ngl, I watch for the summation at the end most of the time. I like his reflections on hunting.
I was born and raised in New Mexico and this was the second animal I hunted. It truly is one of the countries most beautiful and unique animals to hunt.
Harold seems like a cool dude.
You guys did the one and most important thing I was taught and passed onto my son when hunting. If your unsure of your shot, dont take it. Make your shot a kill shot, not a wound shot. If your unsure of the background the shot might effect if you miss, dont shoot.
You guys posting these older episodes has been a huge lift to my spirits.
Merry Christmas, ya MeatHeads!

It's great seeing Steve take part in New Mexico culture. Nothing beats some green chile.
Good job getting a rifle Antelope tag. As a resident I haven’t drawn in 8 years. Fingers crossed it happens this year.
Being frombnew mexico this makes me very happy. Three things that people here are very very proud of are hunting, fishing and food. Namely chile. Chile goes on everything.
The trail of the billet in the heat was awesome to capture!

I loved when Cody kneeled down to his animal and thanked it. In my country when we hunt, when we return with our group, the whole group thanks the mother of the hunt (sort of like Mother Earth) for this great animal and oportunity.
It shows respect and admiration for these great beasts that we are allowed to hunt and consume.
Merry Christmas to all of the MeatEater family/crew!! Can't wait for season 9 part 2 , maybe we'll all get lucky & Santa will deliver that to MeatEater Nation!!
I don’t think I’ve EVER seen such a huge and apparent vapor trail as the one from Steve’s shot. Gotta love the 7mm Rem Mag👍!

That's respect. Nice shot too Cody, and Steve!
That antelope red chilli looks awesome. I imagine it tastes even better after a day chasing that antelope.
Great episode. Being a born and raised New Mexican I have hunted antelope many times and eaten antelope and Hatch chili. I'm now in Tucson and chasing Couse in the deserts. Merry Christmas!

I spend more time than I should on UA-cam, but this has to be my #1 favorite thing to watch. So well done and a nice Christmas treat to wind down with. Thanks for making this available on UA-cam! Please keep up the great work!
Thanx for explaining the 'bedded' animal shot. I also believe that if you have the skills to stalk up on a bedded animal then you deserve the fruits of your labor. The other side note is that the animal is at it's most relaxed state and therefor the meat is better. Merry Christmas.
The manliest package of awesome presents on christmas eve: a bottle of Scotch, a book about history, a book about barkeeping, strong coffee and a new episode of meateater, thanks a lot, I like it.
Seeing the guy use the antelope to make his chili is the best part. The fact that you can use one animal and prepare it so many different ways and learn peoples recipes and traditions and experience all those things with them is great. Really beats sliced lunch meat from the grocery store. If people really love animals they should appreciate people that refrain from relying on factory farming for every single meal. This is the way it was for 100,000 of years and its always worked.
You could see the vapor trail from the round when he shot the buck.. so cool
Dirt and dust.
Sitting here with the wind in my face and the sun on my back watching Steve do what Steve does best
Native New Mexican here, Cody is absolutely 100% correct Green Chile is embedded in our DNA from a very young age. We can also tell if you’re from here by how you spell chile. The Hispanic way of spelling chile is as such because of our rich and historical Hispanic culture. Anglo and other spell it chili. We flavor is above all the most important and you can tell when you get a good batch, you can smell it while it’s roasting. The chile vendors are smart they post up outside grocery stores roasting it so you smell it on your way in and on your way out. Every NMer buys a freezer full that way it last until next roasting season. He is also right in the fact that we put it on/in everything. Green chile spaghettini, green chile chicken lasagna, green chile chicken Alfredo, green chile pizza, green chile quiche, green chile sandwiches (any kind could use some green chile)…. It’s literally an everyday thing.
Green chile enchiladas here in Phoenix 😂
It's awesome how he becomes family with his guides.
That was one of the coolest views I’ve seen of shooting something from range, u could see the bullet travel all the way to the asleep antelope. Great shooting!
Steve. You need to talk more about the rifles and scopes you use during your hunting trips.
Others: how did you learn how to hunt and do all this?
Me: years of tagging along side Steven Rinella! 😅
19:50 that looks insanely delicious. Can almost taste it. Mouth is watering
I stopped hunting for about 8 years. I finally got back into it this past season 2020. Found myself kneeling down and thinking all 3 whitetail I took. I am much more appreciative these days.
I respect Cody's reverence towards the spirit of the kill.
Hunting at its best! Sharing an outdoor meal with your Dad is special as well.
Thumbs up to the cook for cooking a great meal for the boys 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍.
I had a blow-out on my truck between Clayton and Raton on highway 87 last year while heading to Colorado. we were stranded for 4 hours waiting on a wrecker (No spare and on a Sunday) I cant believe how many pronghorn I'd seen come within 200 yards of us. Being from Oklahoma this was my first time even seeing one. I'd love to go back and hunt around there one day.
I'll be headed to Raton next month to do a hunt with the Jim Shockey Military Tribute program to try and bag a Pronghorn. Never hunted a PH or in New Mexico. Can't wait!
i love how steve always has his dope notes on top of his scope
“Someone” just told you that great piece of wisdom?? The eagle has come a long ways.
This is the best hunting video I've ever seen. The meals are killing me. I love how that man took a minute with the goat. He hasn't forgotten what it cost him (the goat)to feed has family. What a culture I'm glad he hasn't lost that.
I’m from New Mexico, now living in Phoenix and I still eat Hatch Green Chili EVERYDAY!! I’m super hooked on Hatch Green Chili. I roast a bunch, freeze it and have it year round. Eat it with everything, breakfast lunch and dinner.
hire that man to cook on the show and turn every episode into a two part hunting and then cooking show.
Make the show an hour long would be even better!!
The episodes only get better each season. It’s available on Netflix.
And talk about the gear of each episode, rifle, caliber, knives, backpack...
Genius
Beautiful. Kudos Cody for your approach to Hunting and respect for the Animal. 🙏
The last bit highlights Steve’s writing. Really good stuff!
I don't know what it is, but Cody's dad seems like an awesome guy.
I would do anything to tag along with him on a hunt. Him Remi and Yanis have taught me so much from watching them its kinda like I already have gone with them many times. But still not the same so Steve if you get a chance to take a fan let me know :) Merry Christmas to you and all of youtube people. Have fun today and be safe.

That’s such a fantastic shot, not necessarily that it was a hard shot but from the camera angle, with the vapor trail, truly great.
16:28 holy Jesus , that was an amazing video of the shot
Been there done that. Just about as much fun as a person can have! !! More fun, less work than elk. Sure helps to be hunting private ground as well.love the taco recipe
Great video Steve. I have done Pronghorn hunts in Wyoming a number of times years ago and have since moved to NM. This reignites my fire to hunt them again. They are a true challenge and make for a awesome hunt experience. I took my wife on her first 'big game' hunt years ago and she is hooked. They make a beautiful mount and man, oh man, do they taste Good. Keep up the great video work.
I'd love to hunt with Cody him and his dad seem like great people and those tacos made me hungry they looked so good. And the blue cheese dish 😍.
Quick tip for those looking to get green chili - go to your local farmers market during august and September. Many southern and western states will have folks roasting and selling them. Or go online and order them :-)
