I’ve owned one of these since new in 2011. It still looks like new and still takes great images. It’s arguably one of the best cameras I’ve ever owned and still own. It has been my go to, go anywhere camera. I’ve owned many cameras over the years and mainly use Fuji xt cameras, but this lx5 is quite simply fab!
The prices of good point and shoot cameras are outrageous at around $500 andup. I just got a slightly used LX5 for the wifey and so glad I did. Especially after the review here. Well done!
I bought this camera second hand in 2011 as a travel camera. I absolutely loved using it, the accessories include a screw on metal tube that holds filters and a wide angle lens, and a digital viewfinder that fits on the hot shoe. Ive taken some of my favourite photos with this camera, probably because you can just take it with you and never miss that shot! Thanks for your video.
PanaLeica is a class all of its own and in particular, the LX5 is a beautiful compact camera…and the Elmarit Vario Summicron lens is what attracts people to photography with the Leica heritage. Nice review! 😊
I got this camera about three years ago because it’s compact, has Leica lens, and most importantly (for me) it has the ccd sensor. Great little camera. I got some of my best shots from the lx5.
More than 4000€ in equipement, I still prefer to go outside only with the LX5 I bought for 40€ a couple years ago. It is awesome for me. Also sharp af 👀
My recent bouts of GAS have landed me with a Lumix LX7, GF2, GF1, GX1 and TZ90 .... Canon S120, S95, S90 and I have a G16 (from new) .... All brilliant, and used more than my interchangeable systems
ive owned one of this.. and ive got a latest mirrorless.. i keep coming back to the photos this camera have take, its just majestic and filmy for some reason, also this produce very vivid Raw files.
Thanks for the glowing review. I bought two of these, one in black and one in white, over two years ago for myself and for my daughter. I haven't used mine much since then, but I'm encouraged by your video to take it with me on my next holiday. Cheers!
Superb video, and like your style! These type of cameras are so under-appreciated. Your thoughts and conclusions are spot-on and many could learn from watching this….
Thank you very much for the kind words, they're really appreciated! And yes, these older cameras really are under-appreciated so I'm happy to see other people who like them as much as I do.
Ive had this camera for years and it had been sitting idle for a long time, just took it with me on a vacation to universal.... and I got some fantastic photos. Shot in raw most of the time and fits in a small fanny pack pocket... it was up for the job, small and light, quickly powers up, auto powers off, shoots in all conditions. Thanks for confirming what I suspected... 12 years later it still stands up. Im going to make a point of keeping it out of the drawer for a while.
I was stupid enough to sell this camera, and it is maybe the best small camera I ever took photographs with, and yes...I am now searching to buy this camera. Life is strange. Nostalgy is kicking in heavily.
I’m getting this as a hand-me-down from my dad because I’m interested in automotive photography. Glad to hear it still holds up! My iPhone 10 just isn’t cutting it in low-light situations. Hopefully this will work better!
I bought this camera 5 years ago at a Goodwill for $15. The pictures look like sharp film shots once processed, and I can’t tell the difference half the time between the pics from this and my Leica X2, at least when swiping by on an iPhone.
I chanced on a bargain on two of these-the black version and the white version-in 2020. For a compact camera, it has such amazing features. I’m only beginning to make use of all its potential.
The Canon s95 is an ultra compact that has the same size sensor and takes phenomenal pictures if you're looking for something with full manual control that slips into your pocket comfortably
I also have the S95, which is a great camera, but........The LX-5 has that ability to be just that little bit better. Mind you the big advantage of the S95 is the tiny size over the LX-5. It truely is a pocketable camera. But If had to choose, I think the LX-5 is the one I prefer mainly due to that lens.
@@TheOffertonhatter i agree . S95 strictly the best because its tiny. If im gonna have camera the size of your lumix. Ill use my Ricoh griiix. I am starting to love the gr because it made me change how i shoot
I loved mine, until the rear wheel stopped responding. But the IQ is excellent! Even now I occasionally revisit some of the RAW files and process with the latest software (PS and Topaz) and the files just get better. I also love the fast lens and the very small form factor. I eventually replaced it with my Pentax MX-1 compact camera which is a bit better overall, with retro looks, but it is a tad bigger due to things like tilting screen. But the LX-5 is still a little gem of a camera, and if I can get it working again, I will probably start using it again when I don't want or need to carry my FF DSLR around. Great video BTW.
Good to see you have some of the blue on your viewer. I recently got this camera and I turned it on and couldn't figure out what it was and after shooting and putting the card in my computer noticed it didn't appear in the photo just the viewer. Which is also slight pain when you view on the camera itself because it shows on those pictures. Also my iso button seems to be pushed in but so far hasn't been issue.
I would like to ask, about the change of sensor from CCD on LX5 to CMOS on LX7, what difference it makes? I like the aperture on the LX7 but still dont know about the sensor.
Nice! I found an LX3 in a drawer a while back, and it’s going to be in a video some time soon. The LX5 is tempting because I already have the evf, which I used with the gf1.
Nice find man. I've heard good things about the LX3 from the research I did for this video! The EVF would pair well with the LX5, would make shooting similar to a DSLR.
@@az0912611 Optically, the lx3 is much better than the two subsequent cameras. Probably because of the smaller focal length , which is easier to calculate
great to come across this video, im considering the gf3, lx5, samsung ex-1. Does this camera have interesting filter effects? And can it do multiple exposures?
Great review. Very practical perspective. I just picked up an LX5 as I got caught up in the CCD hype. I also have the Leica D-LUX 6 (LX7). I’m thinking of selling the Leica as I don’t need two compacts sitting around, but I worry I will miss it someday. Which one would you all keep?
Definitely a very nice camera which I still use. It is ergonomically pleasant and quite fun to use. However, comparing it to modern cameras is an exaggeration since it can only hold its ground when in good light conditions and not so much against the sun (as shown in your footage). I find the EVF a must buy, especially to use in sunny weather and it also saves battery (or so it seems to me). Do not quite understand why the EVF has a bad reputation (usually why people say it's expensive), but I really like it and the performance is very good. By the way, base ISO is 80. Cheers.
Nice review, looks great. I have the LX3, which is basically the Leica D-Lux 4, and I love it. Also have the FX01 (Leica C-Lux 1) and really love that as well. Toobad these cameras have shot up in price so much recently.
I chose a small camera, bought at a good price D-Lux 5 (LX5) Photo quality is excellent, I'm surprised. Sometimes you don't see the difference between my Lumix G9. I would like to try another LX7. Oh, if we updated this camera, left the same size and added a little more megapixels and video recording. The perfect camera for me. With AI, the noise is perfectly removed, I tested, then up to 1600 iso working with for me. But I increase iso only in some situations.
Great video. I took some great photos with this camera years ago, but haven’t used for awhile. At what point does an iPhone replace this camera? Thanks!
Got this about a month ago in an almost perfect condition. Sadly, after getting a shock, there are some black spots that sometimes appear, sometimes fade as I adjust the zoom and focus. Any idea? Is that dust on sensor or lens? Looking for how to fix it..
Dust on the sensor should not be visible on the photos at f/8 minimum aperture unless they are quite large -(Are the spots always the same in the photos?). If by shock you mean collision, I guess it could be dislocated parts from the lens assembly or debris. The service manual can be found online in case you are feeling adventurous. Good luck.

Such a good review mate. Just bought one of these for summer and beyond!! Very excited for it to arrive.
Bought one new when they first came out and still use it regularly today - even more so than my Leica M Rangefinder kit !
you deserve a lot more likes. The photos are better than a lot I see on very popular channels.

Great vid. The Lx5 is one of my faves from yesteryear. I know how it is with life getting in the way with content...Keep at it!
You're damn right! I'm still using mine ( for'serious pics") bought in 2011...
I bought Leica D Lux 5 and cant find any reviews. Appreciate for this video! Keep it up!
I bought my LX5 around 2 years ago. So much fun. I have the LX3 too but like the LX5 more.
Great video Joe! I now need a Panasonic LX5 🤩📸🔥

I like the update reviews VERY MUCH. You have a new subscriber and thumbs up

Thanks for uploading this. I am really considering this camera. Subbed and I hope you can upload a new video soon. You're great at it. 😀

Great review! It makes you want to try and buy this camera. I wish I knew someone who had it so I could try it out
Nice review. Have one of these myself. Great walkabout camera. Great lens of course even if it is not Uber fast.

Came straight from the Canon PowerShot G3 video, so glad this review came to be even though it's "late". But better late than never 😅
Awesome edit Bro! Pro stuff!
great to come across this video, im considering the gf3, lx5, samsung ex-1. Does this camera have interesting filter effects? And can it do multiple exposures?
Thanks for your explanations. I am not using it since 10 years. Using a iPhone instead. I am considering to give it a new try !

@alnumansim No, the LX5 does not have that option.

I fucking love this camera
Have this one, what camera case is this? thnx
nice review! few questions - can we attached a wifi adapter? or how to control through iphone?

I was disappointed with lx 7 after 3. Although, of course, there are many innovations in it
In your opinion, does it still make sense to buy it new today for 350 euros?
Great video. I took some great photos with this camera years ago, but haven’t used for awhile. At what point does an iPhone replace this camera? Thanks!
I've been using LX10/15 for 5 years now, it's my favorite pocket camera, and I'm impatiently waiting for its successor...
I have a few options to choose from LX5 or Fujifilm X100s or Pentax MX-1
Great review
How can you compare this camera to IP15 ? Some people say Ip15 can have better photos !
Merci pour cette vidéo, j’ai adoré et c’était très intéressant! hâte de vous d’autres vidéos
Did you take photos during star gazing using LX5? Good?
I mean milky way, not specific stars / moon.
Sorry, did you mean you only keep it at iso200 only?
When I bought it 3 years ago, I bought it for 50 dollars , can’t believe it’s going up again to 100-200 dollars
I just baught mine for a cheap price thanks bro!
is this worth it for 125 dollars?

Life gets in the way sometimes, indeed. Still, thanks for the content.
which camera pouch is that??
Great video ! Just picked one up for $30 and it’s tatty / rusted but still shoots 😂
Is this camera better than the sony hx50v does anyone know.
Yea, they are lovely, I hale LX3
Great video.
Subscribed.
Thanks
Any new videos?
good job man
Is it possible to carry it in your pocket??
It is indeed. It's very slim so it'll fit into even a small pocket in a jacket or bag.
At all 😊
