I was 5 years old in 2008, but my dad has kept his LX3 stored away all these years and i was so excited when i found it. its truly a fantastic camera, and honestly a better user experience than a smartphone!
I bought one in 2008 and loved that camera so much. Was able to get lots of fun accessories for it. It used it all through college, before people were taking photos with their phones. I could put it in my pocket and take it to the bar, friends' houses, wherever.
I can’t agree with you more. Something that works and looks good is all we need. Thank God my wife still accepts this model with so many new options out there.
nice man, sometimes the old saying "if it aint broke don't fix it" just fits. its nice to have all these options for sure. Glad to hear she is still using this also! Thanks for checking out the vid and the great comments!
Hey there Jeanne! Thanks so much, it was a blast checking out my old friend again. I always knew it was a unique camera but had no idea it would stand the test of time like this. Thanks for watching and the comment, have a great weekend ⛱️
AWESOME!! That is great to hear Marga, I definitely know the feeling. Have fun with your new camera and thanks so much for checking out the vid and the comment!
Its the digital camera that got me back into taking photos long ago. It gives you enough controls to get your shutter/iso/aperture chops on. You can access all this stuff with some iphone apps but having this dedicated camera taught me a lot. Good luck Timecop!
I love this camera. Weirdly, one of my key uses for it originally was video! The quality doesn't match up to today's iPhone but 15 years ago it was solid. The main problem was the sound so I used a Zoom H1 and stuck it on the hotshoe. Captured memories of older relatives before they died - thanks LX3.
oh man that is great to hear you were able to capture those memories, nice work making it work with the zoom. I wish I had shot more video on it back in the day, I was always using my Sony handycam camcorder lol. Thanks for checking out the vid and the great comment, take care
A friend just gave me her lx7. I am enjoying shooting pictures in black and white with it and shooting close ups. Really nice quality pictures, intuitive controls, great results. Thank you for the info.
Hey there Lizerator, that is great to hear! I am loving that these Lx series cameras are still out there in the wild and creating smiles. It really is a great little camera. Enjoy the Lx7 and thanks so much for the comment! Take care ✌️
I still have my LX3, purchased "back in the day." It's always been a great little partner, only replaced recently by a Ricoh GR3x ....but never forgotten. The form factor of both cameras is great for portability, and is great for honing skills/previewing different photo opportunities to return later with my "big guns."
lol at big guns 💪 Thats awesome CapriciousBlackBox, I love hearing how everyone's old cams are still going strong. I met a location scout a while back who always had the LX3 with him for finding spots, you are right, it's the perfect little companion. I have been eyeing those Ricohs for a while, need to give them a "shot" 📸. Thanks for checking out the vid and the comment, made my day. Happy shooting with the big guns, take care!
I'd have to agree. I've had both the LX5 and LX3 and as a filmmaker, what blew me away was that the LX3 shoot 24fps in 16:9 format. With the 10-minute roll time, I could do really short soundbites or great B-rolls with it. Still my favorite "walkaround" camera and I use it more than my DSLR.
Oh, interesting. I was not aware of that 10 minute roll time. I used it very rarely in the Video world as I wasn’t too into it back then. Love hearing that you’re still using the LX3, I had no idea there were so many folks out there still rocking this camera. Thanks for watching and the great comment, good luck with your LX3, hope it makes it to 20 years also!
@@TheFloodLightShow I also wrote about this, having been inspired by your video review. inthemidstofsolitude.blogspot.com/2023/07/the-panasonic-lumix-lx3-2023-review.html
The image quality of that little camera really holds up to this day. I’m not surprised though since it pretty much uses a Leica lens. I own a Leica Dlux Typ 109 (which pretty much shares the same lineage as Panasonic’s LX line) and it still really impresses me to this day despite the advances in smartphone camera technology.
Can't agree with you more Arondyte, still very impressed with this camera's ease of use, battery life still rocks, and the images have a kind of dreamy look. Going to try and keep this off the shelf as much as possible now. When doing research for this I had forgotten about the similar Leica Dlux, glad to hear you are still enjoying yours as well. Thanks so much for checking out the vid and the great comment, much appreciated!
I got a lumix lx5 for 130CAD on fb market. Pristine condition, only 4 photos taken, sd card, box, manual, cd, wires, and batteries included. My best buy of 2023
I ended up with three of them about 8 years ago after I bought one in an online auction in rough shape. It didn't come with a charger so I waited a bit and saw another one come up on auction and it had the wide angle lens adapter as well. Unfortunately this one didn't come with a charger as well. Third camera purchase was the charm. They were all very inexpensive but well worth the wait. The build quality on these are exceptional. They are solid and made with both plastic and metal on the housing. The one I use the most is dented in and missing a screw on the bottom but works flawlessly. The black and white photos are great and I leave it on that setting continuously now. i would recommend anyone getting one of these if found for a good price.
Awesome NK! there is something addicting about that camera and enough features to start really thinking how cameras work. Great to hear it is still snapping away and teaching more generations! Thanks for watching and the comment, what are you shooting with these days? 👍
I'm currently shooting with an E-M5 MkII. The LX3 was a great "learning" camera for me. Ideal for backpack travel at the time. Mine has seen 6 continents. Captured some amazing memories.
Great video! I got mine in 2008. It's been unused for so long but I have it on display. But I need to take macro photo's now days And I realised this little baby can do amazing shots... 🥳
Have owned LX3 since 2009 and started using it again. The images are amazingly rich and colorful (secondary to the ccd sensor) and sharp (secondary to the Leica lens). I will never sell it!
A wise choice UFO 🙌 I am hoping mine makes it another 15 years haha. Thanks for watching and comment, and good luck with your LX3, never sell lol! Take care
Wow, I had no idea about this camera. I was always a Nikon guy with a D40 and D90 (and then the J/V series of mirrorless compacts.) But before that (from 2002~ish) I had a few Canon IXY's and maybe a powershot.. great little pocketable devices and pre-camera phone it was a good option. I took many memorable photos of my travels. I am a little surprised it holds up today, maybe I should take a look at it, they are pretty cheap nowadays. Those photos (I am assuming you took them) are awesome! You are certainly a lot better than me. Love the throwback idea, would love to see more! Thanks!
Thanks so much Martin!! It was a lot of fun bringing the lx3 off the shelf and charging up the battery again, the card had about 10yrs of photos on it still lol. I have a canon powershot a510 here also, but the aa batteries corroded uggh. Hope yours fairs better. It was a great nostalgic feeling shooting on those familiar dials and buttons again, highly recommended. Camera tech has really come a long way, will keep up the throwbacks, so much to choose! Thanks so much for watching and the comment, always look forward to you. Have a good weekend Martin!
The LX3 was my first digital camera. I loved it. I started doing street photography with the LX3. A tiny body because of the 1/1.7” sensor. The lens is fast and has a very usable zoom focal length. I upgraded to the LX5. A nice camera but didn’t love it. Then the LX7. WOW! There is a camera. These cameras are stupid cheap. I’d recommend the LX3/7. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
🙌That is awesome to hear! They really made these to last, love how everyone is still rocking theirs also! Hope your weekend is going well and thanks for checking out the vid✌️
dude, you should! its a fun memory experiment also, turning the old dials and trying to remember how it all works. The menu systems are pretty funny as well, we have come a long way in user experience. Those 5D mkIIs are still solid today. Have fun man!
I had, and still have, the LX2. It was a bit of a noisebox though. I was going to go for the LX3 back when, but then for my birthday, a family member gifted me with the Leica D Lux 4, which I believe is the LX3 equivalent. While the changes were incremental, I felt there was much improvement even only going up a model step. So, the DLux 4/LX3 - I took that thing with me EVERYWHERE 😀 And that aspect ratio switch - loved it. I still have the old DLux and really need to pull it out of mothballs. It was a ton of fun to shoot with even though you need to use the lcd to shoot. Enjoyed your Vid. Subscribed.
Hey there Libby, thanks so much!! I had forgotten about the Leica D Lux until I was doing my research for this vid, I hope yours still works.
