Sad the powers that be seemingly buried Peter's "Out of Control" album. I never even saw it in my local record stores, or anywhere, until years after. Never in the KISS section.
No doubt the album's sales suffered by having been given a very low priority in terms of promotion, but frankly no amount of promotion would have turned it into a hit!
My Mom used to work for Hill's department store as a department head. And that is where she worked at. (Electronics section.) I remember coming home from school, and she asked me if Peter had a solo album out. (She knew he left the band from me- lol) I told her, Yes he does and I want a copy! LOL She called the distributer? And they was already sold out of it and had no idea if any would come back in. So yeah, I think they buried him to make sure his solo records bombed. Which was very shitty on Casablanca's part.
Doesn't matter if he wrote "Beck" (later "Beth") or not. He sang it, like NO one else! Peter was also the coolest looking member of KISS & a GREAT drummer in the 70's. That's enough!😺SUCK IT UP!
@@mr.blackwell5423 I think you may have missed the poster's point. No, it does not matter who wrote it. That is true. But Peter should not say this as he did not write it. This is what he was told to speak at the time. (I think the band must have signed some NDA.) All the band members kept it on the down low back then. It did not come to the public until Gene/Paul kept bad-mouthing Ace and Peter. I think it started during Kiss's "Exposed" VHS release.

Beth did so much damage to the band long term. Like others have said, Peter began to believe he was a musician. He wasn’t. He couldn’t really write songs. He was very lucky to be in Kiss. And then Ace has a hit with NY Groove 2 years later. Ace didn’t write or even want to put it on the record. What’s the chances that Peter and Ace would have the most commercial success. Technically Gene’s solo album was more successful than Ace’s, but Ace doesn’t know that.
Not really true. Peter was actually a great drummer for that early KISS style which was similar to the NY Dolls. Peter was very popular and influenced a lot of drummers. Sadly, he was an addict then and let things spin out of control (no pun intended).
You’re one of those “drummers aren’t musicians” types? Yeah we know Penridge pretty much did the “heavy lifting” as a co writer but if he was so great then how come the Criss/Penridge Project fizzled in the 80s. KISS was “whole is greater than the sum of its parts”. How come Paul had zero hits off his solo album if he was the only one who went to music school? The damage to the band was a mix of overtouring, burning out, egos and drugs in one swoop. Peter wanted to go yacht rock when the Army was expecting hard rock and a lot of kids were moving on to Van Halen,Priest and Maiden by this time, and KISS were creatively dead in the water, even though it was only 5 years from Love Gun to Creatures, and not weird for bands today to take 4 years to put a new album out. Back then if they took that long were considered over and washed up.
Peter was over in London, England in early 1970 (honeymoon with Lydia) when he watched a young Elton John perform at the "Speakeasy Club". While watching the show Peter got wind of Elton looking for a steady drummer. Within the next day or two he, allegedly, tried out for the slot as Elton's drummer. Eventually, Peter was notified the slot had been offered to a guy by the name of Nigel Olsson. Nigel went on as Elton's steady drummer from 1970 - 75.

@@TerenceCooper-w2o that's so sad to hear. I've always thought he seemed like the most down to earth member of the original line up.
