    Lets address some common comments:
    1. "I don't get a virus as I use common sense" - if the largest corporates in the world get hacked with multi-million dollar tech and training, trust me when I say your "common sense" isn't a defense. Literally, anyone can be caught off guard, unfocused, or even threatened (seen this firsthand).
    2. "I don't have an anti-virus and I have been fine for years" - If you run Windows with constant updates, the operating system has safeguards built in. Unless you specifically disabled those in the registry, they are there.
    3. "I never install anything/ I never click on an email" - you don't have to. Just visiting specific sites that have malware on them, makes you a target (see this video where I show it - ua-cam.com/video/nkp8xBM7L0Q/v-deo.html)
    4. "I removed Windows and use Linux" - congrats. your parents must be proud. Fact is that Linux for Desktop for a typical home used is shit. Its free and yet still less than 1% of the OS world wide - why is that? oh right - its shit. For servers and security/ pentesting there is no better than Linux. For home user, its shit.
    5. "I haven't been infected without any security" - how do you know? Malware that adds its targets onto the BotNet hides and uses your system. This can happen for years before you even know its there. Just Google stories on corporate hacks and see how long the malware was active before they detected it....sometimes its years.
    6. "I have downloaded pirated software for years with no issues" - Thanks for admitting it and putting that on line thinking its never going to bite you. Good luck with that. Re: no issues, see point number 5.
    7. "They don't want my stuff" - nope. They do. If they are on your computer and see nothing they like (like the passwords you are still saving in your browser), they use your own email system to send emails to all your contacts to infect them. Every piece of information has value to someone.
    8. "I never open emails I don't know" - Really? So if your mom/ best friend sends you an email, you wouldn't open it? See point 7.
My point is simple: Security is complicated. There is no "just do this and nothing will happen".
As they say in the business, there are two types of people in the world: Those who have been hacked, and those who don't know they have been hacked.
The aim is to share as much security knowledge as I can with you to minimize you being a target of this multi-million industry.
If this channel is not for you, feel free not to watch.
It's free for you to watch with no paywall barrier.
Costs me a fortune to run, but I do this to help as many people as I can not.
I work in this industry and see first-hand how devastating identity fraud can be.
How devastating extortion/ blackmail is on a family when someone threatens to release private moments onto the net.
I want to prevent that from happening to as many people as I can.
If you think you are smarter than all the corporates in the world, all the government agencies in the world, and all the people who hang out on the Darkweb - be my guest.
For the rest of us, I share the info freely so you can make educated decisions.
You are my people and is why I do this!

The biggest corporations have a special problem: employees who feel free to ignore the rules, who are unsophisticated and undertrained, and an unwillingness by management to stop personal use of computers. I was in charge of technology planning and development for a Fortune 250 firm, so I have been up close with these issues. The worst offenders are those at the lower levels and worst of all, those at the top. That is why it is so hard to implement strong policies. I am now a partner in a much smaller and more professional environment and we have no issues with running our machines "barefoot". It may not be for everyone, but if you can do it you are actually better off with this approach. Of course, if is also important to implement strong backup strategies. And most important of all, to remember that anti-malware software is less than 100% reliable. As always, your situation and experiences are likely to vary.

Torrents (at least for executables) have been notorious for a long time as sources of viruses. It's gotten to the point where files are more likely to be infected than not infected. Even legal software from torrents should be scanned for viruses.
And one should always run an ad-blocker in their browser. You can easily whitelist safe sites for it. It saves a lot of reboots.

Hey, it would also be very interesting to see what the result looks like when your PC gets a public IP and not the home network IP. Your computer is protected by the firewall of the router against netscans and penetrations attacks. For example, setting up the router in bridge mode or exposed host, so that the PC can be reached from outside via the public ip directly.

It's what you do on the net that causes problems. If you don't do silly things the chances of getting infected are fairly small. I was hit once to the point that I had to refromat the laptop and install Linux to get rid of the infection but mostly people get hit by nuisance malware, not viruses. If they do the wrong thing when they get these bogus messages or emails, that is when the real hassles start. We got rid of all the BS anti virus software years ago and have just been using the Windows security software. it has done very well and most freebie anti-viruses are infuriating to live with.

I didn't know it was a misconception that people think they will 'immediately' get infected, though they could. I always thought of it as the odds. I think he was referring to how long it takes to know you've been infected, since malware generally tries to stay hidden until it has completed its tasks. That said, complacency is a legit problem. People tend to forget how dangerous some everyday tasks, like driving, really are. They allow themselves to get distracted, conveniently forgetting that 30 mph = 44 feet per second. All it takes is being distracted at the wrong moment.

A few years ago I built a computer for a guy, who called me after about three months,. bitching that his system "didn't work right". I took my kit over there and found his system was riddled with Malware; it was so bad it took Windows 10 almost 5 minutes to boot!. He was not running ANY kind of protection. I fixed everything, managed to save his "data" and reinstalled Windows. I then installed Avast free version and advised him to upgrade. I charged him 200 bucks for the three hours I spent on this, as I did warranty his hardware, but not the software. Lesson learned.

Are you saying we need a firewall in addition to anti-virus on our (android) phones (& tablets)? I've never heard of a firewall being on a phone or tablet (but I'm certainly no expert either😄).
Yes, PLEASE educate us on this!! Also, what about VPN's on (android) phones & tablet?
    Thanks much!!

Malware doesn’t want its presence known.
The only malware that makes it’s presence known is Ransomware AFTER it’s already too late.

Great vid. Always wanted to do this but don't have the knowledge to protect my PC from damage. As you touched on something at the end could you help a little? I have tried unzipping a keygen in sandboxie but the process doesn't seem to work. It should unzip? So thinking the creator has made the keygen so it can't be 'safely' opened? Possible? I also get BitDefender blocking things like BitComet update.

I am not sure this really makes your point, after all you were just fine until you actually installed something from a suspect site. I agree it is important to keep your protection software but your video shows that common sense protects pretty well also. In over 20 years of running top brand anti-virus software none of them has ever turned up a hit on something actually "attacking" my system or found a virus other that in an email attachment I would have never opened.

Windows Defender only turns off temporarily for a few minutes or until a restart unless you disable the service manually in Group Policy Editor in Pro editions or through the registry in home editions.... So, of course you didn't get an infection...

If you had just downloaded the app and right clicked it and scanned it with an installed Anti Virus program, would the virus have been detected allowing you to safely delete it? Many of these cracked programs tell you to turn of your Anti Virus before installing, probably before the crack is applied.

I never have had any anti virus support . 10 years and I am fine. Saved lots of money too. Stay on reliable sites. If those pop up adds ,that lock in,show up I just restore my computer to factory settings and after a few hours my computer is fine. Never call their phone numbers, just RESET to factory settings.

Just before watching this video I watched a different one where a large malware escaped the antivirus scan, for it being too large and the scan didn't check it all, just part of it and missed the bad bits, letting the download through. And that this is becoming more common. Should I trust the 'smart scan' offered by my paid antivirus software?

It took several minutes just to boot. a friend suggested I bought Norton and it revealed 18 malware, 28 viruses and countless other files.

Here is the thing that I am nervous about. I am on a low fixed income. I am disabled and I have heard about these VPNs and I have heard of those password program apps that can remember and generate passwords for you but I have heard that they have given your information to the cops and I have heard that they have sold information to people? The prices are very high. Can you tell me some of the different types of information on the different types of services of the types of these services and their prices and what they offer? I wish that one would offer an anti-virus with a robocall/text killer/ID reporter all in one? If with this service you could not only do a background check on others but on yourself to check your own record and not only financial but criminal.

One question about 'clicking on'. Can't malware writers reconfigure the Close Window cross of a popup to actually stand as a "Yes I agree DL me some garbage" click?
