Brilliantly simple and concise explanation demo on this rather complex subject. I've always found trees/hedges rather difficult to execute convincingly. This video has really opened my eyes! Thank you!
Loose, impressionistic brush work that creates a convincing, realistic tree. You're techniques are incredibly helpful. Trees are one of my favorite things to paint, though I don't fancy myself a landscape painter. However, don't forget sky holes to help add that dimension and since of atmospheric perspective to the shapes.
Thanks! I'm so glad you found this video useful... I haven't able to upload as much lately, but I am trying to keep up when I can! :) Have fun painting.
I would love to see a similar video about different types of rocks. The rocks in your work are always very interesting and dimensional. I struggle to create that effect. Just a video suggestion!
I would like to see something ( tree, landscape, still life, single object ) painted from a reference...either a real object or a photo. So that we can see what you do and why you are doing it as you paint.
good luck ' you are a great artist' i learned many things from you thanks' may ask you ''how l clean my oil paintings' & what is matrial i should to use
Walcott Fine Art ok thank you ' but i saw vedio for som one ' to clean her old paintings with thiner + medium oil and she clean it by cirycal motion ' 'some paintings removed afew color' sorry for my languge '''i am egyption' is that true or not 'im confused' ''''''what can i do for my paintings?
If the painting is completely dry it should not remove any color. From you described that sounds like a video about "oiling out". Artists sometimes do that to even out the finish on a painting before varnishing. Hope that helps!
Walcott Fine Art at first ' thanks so much ' you answerd every question i asked you 'sir i did 'nt study the art ' just i am tallent ' but i learned afew and basic things from my artist frends' i drwing since 18 years' & my paintings good looking ' it's opinion my friends & relatives' my paintings which i cleand from many years' ' when i clean it by thiner + medium oil 50%by 50% the color not removed completly but afew color on my apeice of cotton ' but not too much in general when i drawing ' i used ( oil medium+ afew turbantine) & i never used a virnsh befor ' when i drwing or after drawing is the virnsh necsary for oil paintings ' or not ? sorry for disturbing you ' my question too much ' thanks alot
Hi! While varnish isn't absolutely necessary, it is a good idea. Varnish helps protect oil paintings from dust and dirt. Varnish can be easily removed and reapplied if needed, even years later. It also makes the colors look better and restores the painting to its "wet" look.
Today I decided the tree on my large canvas was too big so scraped off some from the top and sides, now I’ve seen your trees, I’m going to get rid of the whole tree and choose yours, but, my scene is of Portugal, now this may sound stupid but, would you say using your example of tree, which I like very much would be out of place in a Portuguese setting?
To be honest I don't know much of anything about the foliage in Portugal, but you are allowed to do anything with your paintings as you have artistic license! This video is really meant more to show how to break a tree down into simple shapes you can paint. You can apply this same method to any tree shape. Thanks for watching! :)

Thanks so much! You can usually clean a painting by dusting it with a soft lint-free cloth. Just be very gentle.

Nice music too.
