    Good morning! Thank you for a nice start to the day. I usually take a long walk and watch the sunrise but am taking the quarantine to the extreme starting today for a while and stayed in...and then this popped up and made me very happy. It's funny, I still feel like my first painting is my best in some ways because as I progressed, I got a little tighter and started taking longer. My first painting (on my own; I had done some wine/paint nights that were popular a while back) was based on a photo of my friend's cat and I allowed myself to be 'bad' since it was my first painting and decided I wasn't going to get bogged down with details. It also only took a couple of hours. And it's still my favorite. I haven't painted in a while (my paints are packed up--I've been tooling around with a keyboard instead learning songs) but watching these videos make me so excited to crack open the paints again once I move. If I find myself getting too 'tight', I plan to stop and watch some of your videos. Ok, this was a long post. I blame the quarantine. Thanks again--really appreciate the variety of videos you do!

      I know what you mean! Sometimes in the learning process we take a few steps back before progressing.

    When I saw the darks in the darkest green foliage of those trees I thought of Phthalo Blue-Green mixed with Raw Umber. I absolutely love watching your videos, your posts are interesting to watch and I think I have learned a lot just from watching how you paint. Thank you.

    If lockdown = more videos from you, lets just all stay inside for the rest of the year.

    San Francisco near tbe old Sutro Baths and Cliff House... the little blend over the thin color is what makes it interesting

    The thing I’m struggling with is the way my brush will pick up the paint that’s already on the canvas. So I’ll have some dark colour for example and come over the top with lighter but because the brush picks up what’s already there it then puts dark into the next light area. Does doing thick over thin help with that?

    I've never done oil painting is it hard ?

  • @callmedeno
    @callmedeno 3 роки тому

    One thing I wonder about how oil painters usually use there brushes is this: with a watercolour the brush is wet and even if your doing thicker areas you usually dont want the brush bone dry stiff the way it gets if you leave it to dry with paint on it. I wonder do oil painters use their brushes mostly with this extremely dry brush where the bristles don't even move?

    • @kingsed91
      @kingsed91 3 роки тому

      No, you never let the paint dry on it, but it being oil paint, that won't happen unless you leave it for three weeks or so. You can clean the brush simply by washing it in either oil, turpentine, OMS or sth else you like, it doesn't need to be crispy clean, just wash out the colour from it.

    Please, can I use Liquin Original for Alla prima? And in what ratio should i mix Liquin Original with paint in each painting layer?
    Thank you so much! :]

    • @chamberlainpaintings
      @chamberlainpaintings  4 роки тому

      Yes, I use Liquin for alla prima plein air painting. There is no specific ratio. You can use a lot or a little, depending on how much you want to thin the paint.

    • @anelanikolic3946
      @anelanikolic3946 4 роки тому +1

      @@chamberlainpaintings Thank you so much on fast reply! So I shouldn't be scared to start with alot Liquin and then gradually use less and less in next layers?😄

    • @chamberlainpaintings
      @chamberlainpaintings  4 роки тому

      You can use more, then less, but probably not good to use less, then more.
