every bit worth a sub brother! My TX leather ed, is just out of warranty. So of course due to some bad voltages on one leg causing some craptastic on-off, on-off action. Once I had that problem solved many hours later I was ready to try out that new C3 'vette on Automobilista 2 just released this week. Fired it up, but no wheel input. Crap!, no lights on wheel! Your video has pointed me in, what I hope, is the right direction. Thanks much mate!
sorry for late reply i been crazy busy at work hoped this helped
Mate you are a legend.i bought a faulty tx 2 days ago and in aus i bought a brand new laptop power supply, fitted it all in and its working awesome. Thank you so much
happy to help
Hey mate, just about to do the same. Is it worth adding a switch on the laptop cable?
It would mean you could isolate. It I guess
Dave i fitted a plastic plate and a socket that fit the plug on the end of the charger cable so i just pull the plug when im setting up
Great video thanks. I've just got one of these and after 40 or so hours the fan is knackered. An excellent replacement fan is the Noctua NF-AF6×25 FLX (£13.40 Amazon) There is an excellent installation video on UA-cam for this fan type. I think I'll pick up a Dell power supply, just in case!
Great work buddy it's always worth plying something apart if it's out of warranty. My tv screen went bright red a couple of years ago. I pulled it apart cleaned it off dust and replaced the fuses and is been going strong
+Top Shelf nice work mate some times we jut nees to use he gray matter. You poping by the stream later? Cant remember the time diffrance. Its at 21:30 gmt
Muddy Gamer possibly got date night with the wife but if able I'll drop in
Dude don't even think about it then. Date nights can turn in to great night if you play your cards right hahahaha
Cheers mate, I just lost power to mine over a week ago. Fortunately I found the proper power supply here in the states on Ebay. The customer service department here in the US sucks balls, for a 4 month old wheel and for me to do my own repairs I will think about another maker in the future.
+dave k sorry to hear thant mate. Over here they are pritty good but still would cost me to fix
LED FAN is a must. Well done mate!!!
+Paul Roden-Flame cheers buddy now juat trying to find a 2 pin led fan hahaha
This actually worked. Thank you so much🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hace mas de 1 año que tengo el volante guardado, gracias a vos lo acabo de revivir!!! (More than 1 year ago I have the steering wheel saved, thanks to you I just relived it!) I love you for Argentina!
Buenas capo. Que fuente usaste ?
Que clase de fuente usaste estoy intentando revivir el mío
Thanks for the only helpful tutorial on youtube
hope it works for you
My thrustmaster t300 rs has burnt out power supply I got a old power out out of another race wheel found this video helpful
Awesome! Thanks so much for posting this!
happy to help. i see your a fellow tesla fan
Thank you!! It works for my t300! :)
You're welcome!
Fan-bloody-tastic! Glad you didn't have to get a new one
+JSR Devon hahah love it! was concidering getting the new ts-xw wheel but thats like £600. Thanks for your kind comments buddy yoi gonna join me on the stream tonight?
Would this work for a ts-xw? And does your wheel have a built in fan like the ts-xw? Like everyone else that has one, mine suffers from overheating and I would like to add a second or even third fan to the sides of the servo. Just can’t find anything online about people doing it.
My T300 Ferrrari edition used to abruptly turn hard left in-game (iRacing) and power off out of no where. Then it turns on after 15-30 minutes. This time it didnt turn back on at all. Would you know this might have caused this?
Well done. Great stuff. Thanks.
your welcome
Got a dead t300rs for free this last weekend opened it up tried the soldering technique and it didn't work. Found the same dell cord you got on ebay for 15 bucks, fingers crossed it works. Did you try soldering it first?
Hello! Do you know if i need the same voltage (19.5 v 6.7 amp) for a TMX wheel? Thanks!
Hi thanks for the video. 4 years later how did this mod last? And does it matter the voltage and amps on the computer power supply?
I'm getting 21v before I connect it back in the board. At the board after connecting I'm getting 15.5 and nothing powers on. It's a 19.5v 4.6a charger
Hi there i bought the t300 wheel but they sent me an EU plug instead of a UK one . Can i just change the plug to a UK one or are they wired different thanks.
Can i use a 24V 2A power adapter instead of the dell 19.5V adapter? The reason I'm asking because it says 25V 2A Max on the internal power supply.
what spec fuse did you end up using in line for the DC Positive?
Hi, im going to do this on my tx, y had a short cut on my psu. when i switch it on the computer it stars calibrating, but it seem have no strengh 30 seconds later it switchs off from the computer... The psu smokes bad and i take a look of ot... Today i try to switch it on the computer with the psu open and y see a shortcut on it.
I have bougth a 24V 5A pc power supply. I will put a 3amp fuse on it. hope it will be the answer to this problem... What is your opinion? how long the fuse will blow?
Nicely done mate!
+Scotty Bennett cheer mate! You stoping by the stream later?
Muddy Gamer yeah should be around, how long you gonna be streaming?
im trying to restrict some streams to 1 hour but it just depends when the stream starts to heat up with people
Hi thanks for this! I am waiting to hear back from TM but expecting the worst - I tried switching on and nothing. Blown 2 fuses confirming this. 2 questions if in the Uk do you really need to fit a 3 amp inline fuse as there is one in the plug? Secondly I couldn't see what you were soldering to what? Can the ends not be just crimped together? (I don't have any solder kit). Thanks again!
hi and welcome. crimping would be fine and the inline fuse is needed as it stops you blowing the motor . im not sure but would think the transformer uses more amps to transform the 240 to 24 then it produce's
Excuse me, could you tell me how to find the specs for the EU version, you know, 220V. i think i could follow the same procedure but using components with the propper specs in terms of voltage, amps etc
I was wondering about doing this just as a cooling mod. Seens the fan sits between oem psu and the motor, figured removing the warm psu to outside the case would be a good idea in general. Notice any difference in overheating time?
The force feedback might be stronger because the voltage it too high, do you know the exact voltage? Mine has also gone and looking to do the same.
Ive done this today with my samsung monitor powersupply ( 35w) and it works perfectly fine :) i also put 3a fuze
hey where did u get the 3A fuze

Sry i cant sub anymore, cause yt says im maxed out..Thanks 4 that nice Vid 😊👍
No problem 👍

Nice! Are there any other common issues that can be easily solved?
Hi.. I have spotted a cracked component on the board, and I need some help identifying what it is exactly. It has MCC 43A marked on it. Is there anyone here who may be able to help with finding a replacement part?
Sorry I cant help but some one might
Great vid! I'm getting a laptop psu soon to hopefully get my wheel working again.
One thing I don't quite get yet: the power plug (on the board of the wheel) normally has 4 pins (guessing power and the 'only turn on with usb' thing). I see you only have the power pins (2/4). Does the wheel not require those two smaller cables, do you have them shorted somehow and/or does it make a difference if I remove them?
The arnt required I think. It was s long time ago. There is a link in the description to a how to blog with pic
Thanks for the reply! I didn't notice the blogpost, but I'll give it a read. Cheers!
How do you know if the power supply burned out and not the board itself ..
what is the higher part in the middle, just behind the rim? It makes the whole body higher with that sort of ''hill'' in the plastic cover; Can i get rid of it?
its ment to be a ir receiver for the Kinect i think. i wouldnt take it out incase it stops it working
Mine stopped working the other day, in the middle of a race. It's been dead since. I ordered a breakaway cable for the xboxside (small cable end), but nothing happpened. I followed all the steps from TM support - nothing happened. It's out of warranty.
What would you suggest i should do ?
its up to you if you want to do what i have done. but with the wheel already broken what have you got to lose..
@@MuddyGamer Nothing at all. I'll try - thanks 👍
let me know how you get on buddy
great video! thanks! what kind of fuse , you have in it? how many volt? thanks! have longtime tests?
so power still works fine on that wheel and i have fixed a 2nd one since and thats also fine. i use a 3am blade fuse and it works a treat. currently im on my 2nd wheel now as it developed some calibration issues after playing project cars 2 one night so now needs a firmware wipe and reset i think
Muddy Gamer thanks! 👍
Hi, do you know if the power supply can be faulty but not gone completely, I keep losing FFB and the motor has heat in It so is getting power, when I turn wheel off and on, power light on the front doesn't light up, it doesn't run through its calibration and it's like it's stuck steering left when it isn't, I found a calibration tool and it calibrates fine, firmware flashes fine, it can work fine for a while and then FFB can cut in and out before it goes completely.
I have done the fan mod which has helped , got a 2nd fan coming today to try that, but it's strange as the motor doesn't get hot a stay hot, but same thing happens with the FFB, Wondered if ps can be on its way out and not giving the fan enough power.
Is the wheel still working with this power supply mod?
Would a 19.5v 7700ma battery work ?
Hello my power supply is toasted today also can i use the type B input I'm on the search now totally blind thx
Question. can i connect the wires black to black and red to red directly without in line fuese or do i need in line fuse?
sorry been away. the fuse is to protect the motor and reduce the amps from the supply
Hey, I bought 2 of this Broken wheels, one already have a laptop power supply on it, but with 20v 4,5A output, can that be the problem, are 4,5A not enough ? and it has a 5amp fuse not 3amp
can it be that these two things are the problem or is the wheel completly broke ?
hello any news on what happend
Thanks for the video.
I tried to use all your guide but still cannot power up. Is it because of the charger that I use? Model#: FMV-AC323 Laptop Charger
INPUT: 100-240V~ 1.35-0.6A, 50-60Hz
OUTPUT: 19V 5.27A 100W
Connecter size: Int. Diameter: 2.50mm
Ext. Diameter: 5.50mm
does anyone know the approximate dimensions of the Thrustmaster PSU? I'd like to replace it with a Meanwell DIN rail PSU but I'm not sure if it fits
sorry buddy i have thrown mine out... i would recomend using a exsternal over a internal power supply though as that will help with the over heating issue
So I used a 100-240V Input / 24V Output - 5amp Power Supply and temporarily a 5amp "cause I didn't find 3amp" Inline fuse and I'm not getting a light on steering wheel, only getting .5V instead of a 5V when I connect to USB any Ideas?? T300 Servo Base witch is the same 🤔 PLEEEEEASE HEEEELP
did you get my msgs
My eBay Thrustmaster turned up. Apparently 'Unboxed and NEW'. I paid £170 for it. It didn't work and had clearly been taken apart before as multiple screws were missing. Anyway, the seller offered a full refund and told me to keep it. I've now taken mine apart and found the Hall Sensor had broken loose inside (this is the magnet which goes over the end of the motor). I glued that back together and re-mounted onto the end of the motor. Then I had this problem as well. Power was going into the Unit, but no lights were coming on. Upon inspection no power was coming out of the power supply back to the circuit board so have ordered myself the same Dell Laptop charger. Once it arrives I'll be installing as shown. The only difference I did to you Muddy was I drilled out one of the pins on the old 4 pin unit which comes into the case so I could run my new cable through it. saves leaving the hole. Great vid. Thanks bud
thank you buddy i hope it all works out and if there is any other issues be sure to leave a comment here and ill see what i can come up with
Hello. My Thrustmaster TX also no longer starts. I wanted to try this solution. However, I have a Dell power supply with other specifications. Can you check for me, please, does it work out? And which fuse should I use?
Model: 90W LA90PM111
INPUT: AC 100-240V ~ 1.5A
OUTPUT: DC 19.5V _ 4.62a
positive pole inside and negative outside.
looks like it ''should'' work and you will need a 3 amp inline fuse
Hi. Tried a 19.5v 3.33A in a t300 base but it didnt work. Any sugestions?
Do you have a voltage tester?
Mate I've got exactly the same problem after 3 years, the ffb starting getting weaker and weaker playing Forza 7. It still turns on but the calibration started violently going left to right continuously which it has never done before. I ran this calibration tool I found on the net and it fixed the calibration issue, I also updated it to the latest firmware. I plugged it back in my Xbox one but the ffb still not working and the fan is always kicking in loudly. I'm hoping that doing what you've done plus replacing the fan will fix my issue, I'll try anything to keep it going rather than shelling out £220 on another base.
+Adam R so is the there getting power to the wheel itself?
Muddy Gamer Yes mate it does power up but when it goes through calibration it's very weak, not at all like it used to be. Do you think it could be the power source needs changing? I'm not sure if it's that or the motor has blown.
i don't think it will be the motor more likely the power supply has fused on a thermal trip and now the fans on all the time trying to cool down the motor due to it thinking its still hot. i could be wrong tho is there no sensation of weight at all on the wheel when powered up?
have you plugged it into pc to try and diagnose it with the wheel setup program?
Gonna do this to my tmx. Hopefully it works because the power cable freyed and shorted out what I'm thinking hopefully is the power supply.
Good luck
6 years later, I still can't find a power supply cable, so I'm trying this 😂
Hi ! I buy a t300 but the man don't give me the power cable ... I'm french and it's work with 240V your solution is for that ? (Sorry for my bad English ...)
hi welcome to the channel. unfortunately the fix above is for a broken power supply not only to replace the power lead. but if it turns out you need to replace the power pack. this is how you do it
Ha ok thx !
your more then welcome buddy let me know if i can help in any way
Hello bro.
I need you help, did you find any solution? Any other power cable is utility?
Just done this mod myself but with a few changes I ordered the "DELL Inspiron 5547 DC Power Jack Socket Connector with cable" from Amazon and wired this in with a mini blade in line fuse holder. I used a four pin connector from an old PC power supply so no need to cannibalise the one in the TX base unit.
With the power cable from the Dell brick now just plugging in just like on a laptop this is a great on off switch and I will be placing this between the peddle and stick connector sockets on the back of the TX unit.
I am hoping to mount the fuse holder in the hole left by the TX's own internal power supply lead ( the 4 pin connector back right of the unit ). This means no need to cut a new hole for the fuse holder. By using min blabe I hope there is just enough room to also place another power jack above it for a fan upgrade which all being well will be a 120mm fan.

nice work hope it goes well keep me posted of your progress
Powers up but though did get it recognised in windows and on Assetto Corsa windows for the most part is not recognising it and I have both red and white lights flashing and bad calibration. So more work to get it up and running fully but there was life.
So if anyone does have any idea what both red and white LED's flashing means then help would be appreciated as otherwise it is going through things one at a time till I hit the problem and fix it.
These started after firmware update but not sure it is a firmware issue alone if at all.
Had a look at the slot I intend using to mount the jack, if I cut a small slot in the lower case part for the cable so the back part butts up against it and use a bit of hot glue then cut a section out of the locking plate that is held down by two screws I should have a pretty neat and secure jack mount.
+ThorgrimB at this point i have a calibration issue with my old wheel to but i think its the hall sensor. Not sure what the red and white means tho buddy
+ThorgrimB the red and white is strange it may well be a firmware curruption
Ok only just had the time to look at the wheel again I suspected it was the Xbox button so opened the wheel up and checked this as it was not depressing. Button was jammed on so as the silicone gasket had been pushed too far back.
Sorted this and re-assembled minus top cover and no flashing red and white leds and wheel calibrated correctly. Quick lap on Assetto Corsa and all seems to work fine.
Only issue now is the Thrustmaster software picks up my Razer keyboard and will not let me select and calibrate the TX it always selects the Razer keyboard. easy fix just plug an old keyboard in and hopefully that will solve that issue.
Happy days Muddy.
+Bacon N Eggs thanks pal now to see if it feels the same when using it
MG, I had exactly the same issue with Forza 7 and TX wheel..
Well done

Hi..my thrustmaster Ferrari 458 Italia edition have no power either
would this solution work on a t300rs.. i know its pretty much the same just works on differnet consoles..!
it might do as they all seem to be the same but i coulnt say 100% sorry
It sadly did not work for me, looks like my wheel is dead
I am definitely going to put a better fan and better vent the cover as well. If I have to open it up my warranty is no good anyways.
+dave k ive done another video on the vents mate if your intrested
I finally heard back from TM and am jumping through the hoops of home diagnostics. Plug in, try another outlet, run update and so on....There's no f%$king power!!. Hope they are expedient now that I have finally gotten through. Just have to play the "I'm a moron" game for a bit.
+dave k yea had to do the same with mine onnthe phone to them tbh. But now im happy modding it as its out of warrenty
My charger only has 1 white cable and shielding...
Isn't the issue the opto and the triac on the power supply board so only those components would need changing.
Some times it is. I tested tiac it was fine and my fix got it going again
Hi any possibility to connect a cable direct to the 4 pin holes infront?
Only if the power supply isn't toast.
So I recently bought a t300rs. Dead PSU. How's this mod holding up 2 years later?
lasted 6 months before something else went wrong
Related to PSU? Or entirely different?
@@Dammit_Dad it was todo with motor controls
What if we have 3 cables coming from the laptop charger?
You will have 3 cables. You need to identify the earth and cut that out leaving wou with live +and- its normly a driffrent width
The thrustmaster support team aren’t useful at all! My wheel won’t turn on and I do not know what is wrong with it, any tip?
I had the same thing. I asked my seller (although you can try to place an ad on E-bay or Craigslist or something) if I could try to connect another power supply (basically only the white square with (2 in the video, 4 with original psu) cables coming out of it. Then I connected it with usb and it spun right up. Thus, I knew pretty much that it was the psu that was dead.
Other than that, you can try to see if Windows even knows something is connected (usb plugin sound or right click start -> device manager and see if something resembling your wheel is there).
Final two options are bootloader mode (connect with power and usb, hold L3 + R3, remove usb, plug in usb, release L3 + R3 and check in device manager) and/or check if all cables on the inside are connected.
Those are pretty much all the options I know to check your Trustmaster wheel (although I must say that this is my first T300, so I'm far from an expert :) )

Hi, thinking I have the same problem. Does the watt matter on the laptop charger?
yes as you want to get it as close as possable to what's in this video or the motor might not run
@@MuddyGamer ok, i only heard you saying 19.5volt and 6.5A with 3A fuse, so how much watt is needed?
Power (watts) = voltage (V) x current (A)
I’m guessing this is what happened to my TMX cause it just doesn’t get power, I’m not comfortable doing this to it though but I might
if your not comfortable doing it find some one that is bud. better ti be safe

Will a 20v 2.25 amp Lenovo ps work and if so would I still need a 3 amp fuse?
it might/should work and wouldn't need the fuse. but can't say 100% as haven't used it myself sorry
Thanks for the reply! I’ll give it a shot. The cord out of the steering wheel says 2.5 amps so in theory, 20v 2.25 amp should be fine. I will update after I wire it up.
I tried it and it power is going to everything but nothing is powering up. Not even the fan. Usb is plugged in. I’m guessing the circuit board is fried.

Pwer from board to motor?

Does the usb have to be plugged in after the power supply mod?
Yes buddy just plug in as normal

My wheel just broke 20 mins ago. Its making a buzzing sound everytime power is connected do u have any idea what it might be?
i know this sound like a strange request but what side is the buzzing coming from and also is the wheel in warranty?
I did this mod and for some reason it still does not power on.

did you follow the steps exactly
Its usually this not the powersupply : ua-cam.com/video/cbTY9QriLdo/v-deo.html
@@ScoopDogg This mod in the video above removes that circuit board and all those components. (for anyone still searching). It no longer uses usb voltage (5v) to also switch on the power.
240v no longer comes into the case, just the 20v from the laptop power supply/charger.
i am afraid to remove the plastic top cover of the wheel base. Last time i did it i couldn't fit it back on top. It was a dead wheel anyway, but, i tried to put the top casquet of my TX to the wheelbase but it was impossible. Even an experienced electronics technician didnt make it!! so, this time, i sence that the motor has a gap and that's probably due to the moter has dropped off its position and it hangs form the belts, thus creating this gappy feeling when i twist the rim! I am out of warranty and i have to pay the repair cost plus shipment charges to thustmaster, so only way is to open it myself since no electronics repair shops took responsibility to fix it in my country so far. So, i can open it but, i am afraid that i might not make it to fit the top case of the wheel back to its position.. any tips on how to open it and fit it back on, would be appreciated tnx.

Hey I was able to find a 22 volt HP laptop charger and I was wondering if it would work ?i know yours was a little lower voltage and I'm not sure if I need to run a different or stronger inline fuse due to the greater volts the laptop charging adapter specifics are this.. 22 volt- 455 Ma that's the output I believe I thought ma stood for microamps therefore if you convert that microamps to amps that's not even anything so I don't know if this one will work that's my question any help
sorry for late reply. i will be in milliamps i think so thats 4.5 amp. aslong as you have the inline fuse you should be fine i think. but obviosly i dont take any responsabilaty :)

Brother, many thanks , works like a charm the wheel calibrates Perfectly [ minus the wheel being 3° off center when calibration completes] I also took apart & hollowed out the old power supply casing & then put my inline fuse & another small power supply & fuse used to power another fan to help cool the drive motor. Which is powered by a separate source & plug so it doesnt draw from the force feedback capabilities. Something that I wouldn't of ever had thr confidence to attempt if it wasnt for posts like yours that allowed me to do so... first try , plug in.. works .. wow .. +efi adony was it a brand new wheel if so thrustmaster may replace it. If its 2nd hand and your happy opening it i would think the work around would be the same and work for your wheel
The wheel is new but no one wanted to take it back:X well i opened it alredy and found out the powersupply is burnt and i have no idea what laptop charger to buy to fix it cause no one have done this to a tmx
+efi adony whats the amps and watts od the power supply you have
Ciao una domanda ma in termini di resa hai notato una funzionalità migliore del tx? Oppure come ffb e rimasto uguale?
Can you make a tutorial?🙏🏼
1:35 are you saying 'free amp' or 'three amp' ?
three amp lol nothing's free in this world
@@MuddyGamer No 😂 I'm just new to this and really have to be sure, before i begin messing with it.
What colours was the wires in your laptop charger
+graham mason i had 3 they was black red and blue. 2 were thick one was thin to find the + and - you can use a volt meter but mine was the 2 thicker wires. hope this helps
Muddy Gamer thanks ill have to double check then waiting for an inline fuse 1st anyway my wires are blue and brown the thin one was white
+graham mason i would double check with a volt meter pal just to be safe
if you like i can make a short video on where i located my fuse for easy access with out having to take the whole thing apart?
Muddy Gamer im good thanks just waiting on a usb cable for it to see if its fully working 1st
Planned obsolescence

+Solo Russo2304 let the man cave build commence!
Dont know if you will ever see this comment but you will never know how much money you have saved me, and made me haha i buy fix and sell these on a regular base
Nice one! Glad I could help
My TX just died, Xbox and even PC doesn`t recognizes it now........
I have the same issue mine is completely dead but some how my pc can recognize it
Somebody??
Usually it isnt the power supply that breaks its the opto isolator switching ic board : ua-cam.com/video/cbTY9QriLdo/v-deo.html
in my case i knew it was as i herd the pop and could small where it came from
@@MuddyGamer The small circuit board Triac opto isolator next to the transformer makes a popping sound when it blows and smells bad, I was just pointing out for the viewers to check first before changing the transformer, in case it is the opto TrIac iso board,a quick bypass can be an easy fix.
Bad design I think, with the constant usb switching on off everytime the pc boots up
@@ScoopDogg i know and i tested that out before doing anything else 😊
@@ScoopDogg i agree. im not usng a fanatec v2.5 xbox bundle
Thanks for the video.
I tried to use all your guide but still cannot power up. Is it because of the charger that I use? Model#: FMV-AC323 Laptop Charger
INPUT: 100-240V~ 1.35-0.6A, 50-60Hz
OUTPUT: 19V 5.27A 100W
Connecter size: Int. Diameter: 2.50mm
Ext. Diameter: 5.50mm
Is there any way to test if my supply is the problem in the first place before I do this repair?
+69thSTG Rabbit yes mate you need a volt meter though. Do you have one
Muddy Gamer yes I do have one
actually checked the power supply and its reading 31 volts. thats too high right? needs replacement?
sorry missed this reply... 31 volts seems very high not sure how to fix it is the supply is still working maybe take it to a tech shop as it may just be a resistor that need changing
Muddy Gamer I tried replacing it with a laptop power supply and got nothing. So I think it’s something with the main board. If the power supply was bad maybe the main board is killing power supplies somehow? Either way I’ve worked on it for weeks and checked many connections. It was time to order another. My only worry is that it will happen again to the new one but fingers crossed
