Man, mad foreshadowing out of Justin, here. The out of pocket 720 confirms, and even the "useless" standing HK oki at 7:27 being integral and clearing the round. Hayao was truly *on* some shit.
Because in the jp fgc, this action of full parrying a point blank Chun Li's super 2 is traditionally called "let's go Justin". I've heard different people saying it.
Hayao really mastered holding the first half of the gigas before completing it, its crazy. He has a twitter video demonstrating the technique. And I agree with Justin i've never played anyone that made me feel overwhelmed in this game quite like Hayao
The most impressive thing about jwong is that he is just as gracious at losing as he is at winning. That's why he's one of my top favorites in the FGC. Always full of happiness and class.
OMG I replayed the video at 11:46 and put the play back speed to .25 to see the red parry and I could not stop laughing!!!! Awesome vid Jwong, always love your 3S content!
Great video. One of my favorite things about you JW is you give props to other great players and even just good players. Alot of fighting game players will never do this. Thanks man.
I agree... but in this case Hayao is one of the 3S gods, and he is above Justin, so it's not that hard to compliment. It takes a very immature player to refuse compliment a 3S god. And at least from what ive seen i believe that when 3S players get in a certain superior rank they arent that much immature, jealous and salty about losses.
Finally the long awaited match against a 3S god of the highest possible ranks. Maybe it would be cool to keep track of how many different 3S gods you have fought recently. It's been great to follow this journey of facing fg gods in offline matches.
Bro! Thank you for this. Hayao is my favorite. Thanks for pointing out that even though Hayao is a 720 rocks star, he has godlike footsies and it’s part of the game plan against Chun especially crouching MK is mad far.
Hayao is all over the 3rd STRIKE channel on youtube (not lately of course, because of EVO) so I've seen him make Chuns shit their pants for awhile. It's really fun seeing how the JP arcade players react to so many different matchups. And how so many of them play chars that aren't the top tier.
Hayao treating that super like 1 button spd. People don't realize how difficult it was to get proper 720s to come out with a window (large normal animation to keep you grounded), doing one off a short or less is insane.
YES! I've been waiting to see if you got the chance to play Hayao, one of my favorite players of all time. Thank you for sharing more amazing 3rd Strike action with us, my favorite Street Fighter of all.
11:45 - I always heard that everybody told you to throw an ex fireball first - the thing about the parry system in 3s is that it auto parries two hits if they are really close together. So he probably didn't have to do any extra inputs to make that work. Same reason why Remy's ex booms, which spits out two, only need to be parried standing once. So I think most likely that doesn't make it any harder. But..my man started the whole process with a red parry. A fuckin red parry.
this is why i follow your channel you are great in victory as well as defeat... you instead of being salty you appreciate other elite players habilities
The second i saw hugo, i knew exactly who we were gonna see. Dude is insane. If i remember correctly he got a double perfect on Max once. (Edit: as a reply pointed out, the guy who doubled max was Onogai, my bad.)
I dont play fighting games but really enjoy watching 3S on your channel, especially the gorgeous arcade version. Great stuff, even while getting washed! 😆
playing the game via emulation, input lag and online is very different than playing it on an actual arcade board with crt monitor and no input lag. Especially the older fighting games suffer from this at high level play.
he was so good, he gaslit you into thinking you were playing good. but in actuality he read you like a book and played you like a fiddle. dude played like a god
Hayao must be running a butter business on the side, because that man be churning constantly. The fact that he can standing and walking 720 is downright terrifying with how patient he is
I don't think Hugo's dropkick loses to the EX SBK outright. It traded hits since it was so meaty that it went into the active frames the same time as the almost instant active frames of Chun's EX SBK (which I didn't know wasn't invincible) but one hit from the EX SBK doesn't do much damage compared to the one hit from Hugo's kick and he wins by the magic pixel of life.
Here's a little known fact about 3rd strike it's one of those if you know you know. Everyone knows about buffering in the game where you buffer a directional input before you press the button, but what is also a thing is you can save a buffer! Yes the game registers preloaded buffers, So @13:18 where Hugo magically 720 super without any buffer what hayao is doing is he's doing one 360 buffer, the game saves it and then does another 360 and presses punch, only then does the game recognize the super, this is called a standing 720 or 'standing gigas'. The game saved the first 360° input so when the 2nd was immediately entered it didn't count as a normal 360° throw. The 1st 360° input was during medium punch, the 2nd was during standing neutral position. Also pay attention in the gameplay whenever Chun-Li came close to Hugo with a full bar, you would notice Hugo slightly glitching moving left to right and ducking, that was Hayao inputting a 360° pre buffer, so that the next one would be a 720° if needed.
Another not well known fact is that you don't need to keep spinning in one direction. For example for a walking 720 You can go 8741236 hold 6 321478 release. As long as all cardinal directions are hit twice in the window, the game will register it as a "720".
I hit like before watching, because you two are my favourite gaming show ever. Really, Hayao is a God and I can´t stop loving your streams. Damn I missed the opportunity when you came to Argentina!!!!!!!!!
my retirement plan is very simple: training A.I.s so they develop bad 8 bit games that feature in fake A.I. AVGN chapters, and fake A.I. videos between you and godlike grapplers, if they ever somehow stop coming, til I die. I am a very simple man.
Why Japan has such high numbers of top players in fgc: 1. The number of arcades is incomparable 2. The number of venues open till very late is incomparable 3. The number of people living in the larger cities is incomparable 4. The mental maturity of actually willing to get good (as opposed to just cheaping out cheap wins) is incomparable 5. Incomparable
It's funny how really high level 3S is not super thrilling to watch 90% of the match to the casuals. But holy cow, the mental chess is really insane when it's able to be broken down.
the best 3rd strike player is definitely Nuki or Kuroda, Nuki is probably the best Chun-Li. I'd love to see you playing against them. specially Nuki, let's see if you can get your revenge from Evo 2008
13:47 he buffered the first 360 inside that medium punch and did the other 240 on reaction. 3S is lenient enough with inputs that he could "store" the first half of Gigas for that long
Hey Justin, love your content. Also thanks for the picture at Evo. Didn’t realize how tired you looked after I asked, so I hope I didn’t bother you too much! Much love
The mindset while playing this game is really hard to get, then you add on the difficulty of execution in this game and now you have the hardest fighting game ever made

Came back to this because of Hayao's moment on EVO 2024.

the opposite of DSPLTG.
100% a competitor to his core. He wants to play

My jaw DROPPED when I saw that! How the hell did that even happen?
I couldn't believe he like RED PARRIED IT god damn that dude is fast
That entire sequence at 11:44 was mad hype. I dont play 3rd Strike, but I love watching high level play like this. Thank you for the uploads Justin!
The commentator really said "RETSU GO JUSTIIIN" I'm dead ahahahahahahah
Omg you right 😂

The parry was cool at 11:44 but the timing of it made it super impressive.
You can hear “Let’s go Justin” with laughter 🤣
The fact that my man Hayao went from not jumping at all to jump city on SA2 was ridiculous.
I think this was the biggest hurdle for me as a Hugo main, just freaking WAITING. Patience is so necessary, especially in this matchup
Great video. One of my favorite things about you JW is you give props to other great players and even just good players. Alot of fighting game players will never do this. Thanks man.

This is actually incredible. I also loved how the Japanese commentators had the “Let’s go Justin!” Ready lol. Amazing stuff

The Hugo match IS free for Chun unless you are playing the very best Hugos in the world. This is crazy to watch. This dude makes Hugo look strong.

I love watching a good Hugo, and Hayao is the king of them all. Great set overall.
That guy is a spacing master. His is right in your face
Who else came back to this video after seeing the unrippable pants?
@11:45 this is the most disrespectful parry i've ever seen, also his crossup 360's are insane
Watching this level of Hugo is so refreshing! The funny thing is, J. Wong actually fought really well, and looses 5-0.
You can’t fight well for a 7-3 match like chun and huge. You’re just fighting normal.
That was insane! Japanese players really know how to humble you lol.
My man, I'm glad you feeling better and back with the uploads! I'm not a huge SFIII fan but this was actually very fun to watch.
Hayao treating that super like 1 button spd. People don't realize how difficult it was to get proper 720s to come out with a window (large normal animation to keep you grounded), doing one off a short or less is insane.

lol, no that was onogai
I mean, Max is good at Third Strike, but he would still just be a glorified pot monster in a real tournament.
Getting a double perfect on Max is nothing considering we are talking about tournament level players lol
Max is a c rank player on fightcade or low b rank at!his prime. Good content creator though
