Vince Montana, Jr. Conducts The MFSB Orchestra "Love Is The Message / T.S.O.P." (1987)

- You are on stage, behind the curtain amongst the horn section with Vincent Montana, Jr. & the MFSB Orchestra waiting to perform "Love Is The Message / T.S.O.P.". You can even hear one of the musicians singing the melody of "T.S.O.P." and another saying "Any Time Now!!" along with the claps of anticipation from the audience. Finally Montana counts off the tempo; the curtain opens and his arrangement which blends "Love Is The Message" into "T.S.O.P (The Sound of Philadelphia)" begins. Some of the main MFSB Members you'll see here: Earl Young (drums), Bobby Eli (guitar), Ronnie Baker (bass), Larry Washington (congas) Nick D'Amico (orchestra bells / percussion) and Montana in his element conducting.

"Linda Creed Memorial Scholarship Fund" Concert
Vincent Montana, Jr. Conducts The MFSB Orchestra
"Love Is The Message / T.S.O.P." (The Show)
Video #9 of 16 of the Series.
Linda Creed was a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter who teamed up with Thom Bell to produce some of the most successful Philadelphia soul groups of the 70s. Some of her songwriting highlights: "You Are Everything", "Betcha by Golly, Wow" & "You Make Me Feel Brand New" (Stylistics), "Rubberband Man" & "Ghetto Child" (Spinners) and "The Greatest Love Of All" (George Benson / Whitney Houston), to name a few. Creed's battle with breast cancer ended on April 10, 1986 when she was just 37 years old.
Just one year later, on May 10th, 1987 Vincent Montana, Jr. conducted and /or performed with the MFSB Orchestra at "The Linda Creed Memorial Scholarship Fund" Concert. Artists performing (mostly) Creed's songs that night included Whitney Houston, George Benson, The Spinners, Jean Carne & Teddy Pendergrass.
The series is dedicated to and in loving memory of Linda Creed.

One of the greatest names in modern orchestration. Vincent Montana Jr.
Go Earl!!!! Great memories... you didn't even break a sweat.
How could that proper audience just sit there without even clapping to the beat is unbelievable.
When you listen to MFSB & Sal Soul Orchestra you realise that there was so much talent on in the music scene that has has disappeared from the world. This were the amazing big bands of soul music that give both the world and people with joy and happiness. From the first world countries to the developing world the respond was common and the same and people responded positively to the music. Even today when you talk about MFSB & Sal Soul Orchestra the people will tell you what was life about how much the enjoy they life. During the period of the great Kenny , Leon ,Thom and Vincent there was no pain and sorrow only love and happiness was two dominant in people's life.
Real music, real musicians.

Vincent Montana Jr, Now keeping the angels of heaven in perpetual groove. Thank you for your rich legacy, may we never forget
Amazing. Feel that energy.
TSOP was my theme song while I was a disco dj from 1975-93. What wonderful music was performed over the years. We met briefly in NYC at the Disco Convention in 1979, I believe. You were a gentleman and a terrific person I got to meet. Thanks Vince!
Johnny George

The drums, percussion and bass are absolutely bang-on in this, full credit to them, epic musicians. I hope they are still around.
I doubt it, they were about as old as Vince, Great music though.
I believe that Earl Young and Bobby Eli are the last ones standing. Earl is 81. Don't know how old Eli is.

Vincent you are a GENIOUS. Where music would have gone without you? Disco ? House ? Thank you !!
Oh! How could I forget The Baker, Harris , Young connection.
Would have LOVED to see/hear this live in New York, either Central or Prospect Park. New Yorkers would have lost their minds! Spent a LOT of $$$ on Philly International and Salsoul/Gold Mind labels back in the day, even more fun spinning those hits! I STILL have my original double vinyl Philadelphia Classics from late '77. I wish Kenny & Leon would launch a channel on Sirius/XM for the Philly Sound. SIGMA SOUND STUDIOS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MUSEUM!!! Philadelphia, how could tear down such an historic location!!!
Dance your ASS OFF to Salsoul Records!!! I love it!!
Man I love the way Vince Jumps and Claps while doing his work.
Bring this marvelous, great, fantastic, contagious music to Brazil and let's see if anything can be stopped as a wall like this audience.... Vincent, MFSB, Phiily and the best of the bests ever...

BADASS!!!
THE GREATEST SONG ON THE PLANET THEN AND NOW..IT IS A TRUE TESTIMONY TO HOUSE AS WE KNEW IT IN THE 70'S ..IWORKED AT TEEN DISCO MAT AND WE COULD NOT KEEP STOCK IN THE STORE FOR OVER A YEAR WHEN THE LP WAS RELEASED...IT WAS MONUMENTAL...BOBBY TAYLOR
House was not known in the 70s, that plebian term came around mid 80s.
❤️
OH MY GOOD...
Music for the connoiseur
Wow you can see Bobby Eli, Ronnie Baker (chewing gum while playing) and obviously the great Earl Young. Not sure who is playing congas and bongos? Was that Larry Washington? Edited - Yep, in deed that is Larry Washington, only read the video write-up now.
Spettacolare !
Linda Creed I never knew and I assume she's r.i.p. since the video opened in memorial to her. I never conducted an orchestra in my life and can do just as good of a conduction with my hands tied behind my back ,blindfolded, having finished 11 revolution with my head down on a baseball bat to get dizzy as if the mixed spirits weren't enough you know when its backyard fun and games ,my conducting skills would be over achieved in comparison to Mr. Montana's ,I'm not one to lie so certain conditions I add must apply , an orchestra having the talented members of the one and only , second to none Mother Father Sister Brother, truely a state of the art in laid back music listening. With killers let loose, some on their own on the loose and one last still on the loose continuing to shake up a miserable world A gained respect killer Coronavirus aka Covid-19 now called by the miserable world finally or is too late to show respect nevertheless your copying skills I insist you add music that of MFSB they uses strings aka violins with perfection unseen and unheard in this video take my word ,again I'm not one to lie even you will do better than Vinny.
rest in peace (T_T) Mr.SALSOUL..
el grande!!!!
AWESOME!!!
AMAZING!
exciting!!
Nicholas D'Amico back there on percussion :)
♥♥♥♥

Lo sapete, vero, che lui è un vibrafonista con i controcazzi? Ascoltatelo in "Runaway" di Loleatta Holloway... ;-)
Is there a music sheet available for the saxophone solo? It’s nowhere to be found online!
I know this is a fancy fundraiser and everything but can someone actually clap and get up and dance? And is this entire performance available somewhere?
what a bunch of stiffs in the audience. This is classic and something we we never see or experience again
Who is the orignal drummer on the recording?
The great Philadelphia drummer Earl Young.
you can tell he's italian by the way he dances...lol
I'm doing a fund me page shortly to help me with a playwright I'm current working on for a bdwy musical on the story of TSOP. I hope each & everyone will contribute as much as you can afford. I promise your investment will be the best Trip in Amercica!
This era was the best! I can't listen to any music from this era. It sucks!
Bad art incites violence, and all the catastrophes that are happening right now, are due to all the lack of talent that pervades the world in this moment in time.
Its always too fast when they do it live, doesn't sound right...😕
The Philadelphia Sound of the awesome 1970s being played during the horrible Synth era of the 1980s..
And to think a lot of idiots glorify that synth sound, thinking that it will make them seem younger than they are. Ignorance is bold
Huh,????
@@louisgonzalez8846 ....weird ! The 8os was my youth...aged horribly....garbage is garbage. I discovered the TSOP Sound/early symphonic disco in the 9os. Now I live musically in 1975 ...forever. 😀💕...class and talent galore.
The days when you had to play an instrument & not listen to all the autotune
from major to minor $$$
Who is that chick in the picture at the beginning. She was hot!
Read the video info...
Linda Creed. Beautiful lady, inside and out. Lookup the songs that she wrote...
