What happens when you turbo a Harley-Davidson with a leaf blower? We made the cheapest motorcycle turbo and then we installed the most expensive turbo kit on our Harley. I'm a retired mechanic. A friend of mine had his truck on the dyno once. And we put a gasoline power to Stihl blower on it while it was on the dyno. And It produced 16 more horsepower.
Stupid question. Did the truck make 16 or the leaf blower?

Since you mentioned metal inside transmission... The powerful magnet, from an old hard drive, stuck outside transmission plug for long period should provide a good reading next time you change that oil. Thank you, I enjoyed the video and great concept to implement.

I think it would be best to measure the volume of air entering the carb at close to max throttle. If it's higher than the output volume of the leaf blower than you will not make any gains.

Use a gas leaf blower through the carb... and a shop vac hooked to the exhaust using a piece of heater hose. For a little extra kick, replace the line spindle on a weekeater with a 27 tooth sprocket and engage the drive chain midway between the front and rear sprockets...it can also be adapted to assist the primary....that's the hot setup for Harley lawn drags anyway.

@Thomas B I'm not so sure what's so hard about it. America tried to adopt the metric system in the 60's and the 70's, but the people would have none of it. I prefer the metric system, but we are to stubborn to adopt any sort major change.

I’m a new subscriber but I can tell you the older videos with the road trips , the test drives, unique bikes and shots from the auction are a lot more interesting than these gimmicky vids for views. Just my opinion!

That's an eighth of the cost to bring home a new new CVO. And it's probably good for another 100k miles now.
I've often had a similar idea for boosting engines, but thought the compressor from a set of air horns would be a lot easier to install than a bl**dy great leaf blower!
For the price of a used buell 1125r your harley can make 90hp
and the legal speed limit is still 65 MPH so whats you point son?

Speed limit is only 35 to 45 on most city streets. 65 on most highways. So what's your point dummy?

That turbo kit is Awesome looking !!👍 I wish I could afford one for my 04 Roadstar 😁 I just put on some RoadBurner Double Eagle exhaust " " Baffles " a K&N high flow intake and a Dynojet full jet kit and WHOA !!! I couldn't believe the difference!!!! I can't even imagine with a turbo kit on it 😁 How much boost are you running? Great video 👍
its not the best application with a leaf blower of that flow, due to the size of the motor, if you used it on like a 70cc to like 200cc, you might see gains.
Leaf blowers give the volume but not the pressure. I doubt it would make 1 or 2 psi, and turbos start around 6 psi or so, dont they?
Tying the leaf-blower to the back-rest pointing backward would help even more - and it would look cooler.
To be honest, almost didn't watch the video because of the leaf blower title. But glad I did, because you actually turboed it at the end! A turboed Harley = bad ass!

@@ansv3340 A mechanic friend has a K5 GSXR1000 he has had from new and it currently has 189,000 miles on the clock.
It's on its 2nd ecu, 2nd set of fairings and third set of forks but the frame and engine are original and the engine has never been apart.
Just because you have never seen it doesn't mean it didn't happen.
When you tell a service department do everything they will run up the bill - no shame at all.

It’s simple. If you want more power don’t buy a Harley. They’re torque monsters, but no HP
Ironically you can't have torque without having power. The biggest difference is that if you want to increase power you have to buy it, torque can be made in a gearbox.

@@fermitupoupon1754 no, but hp is torque multiplied by rpm. And a torque curve can be changed a lot. I mean, just look at truck engines, loads of torque, not so much hp, because of engine design and rpm. There are mods that can give you torque but not hp.
@@nemphis95 There are no mods that can give you torque without giving you power. That's just physically impossible.
If you have a motor that puts out 100Nm at 1000RPM, that's 10.47kW.
Now if you modify that engine so that it produces 150Nm at that same 1000RPM, that engine now produces 15.71kW.
If you have 2 motors, one that produces 100Nm at 1000RPM, and one that produces 10Nm at 10,000RPM they both produce 10.47kW. Send that 10,000RPM through a 10:1 gear reduction, and you have 1000RPM and instead of 10Nm you'll have 100Nm. But it's still 10.47kW.
However if you want more torque at that 1000RPM, you are going to have to put in more power.
Like if you swap a turbo on an engine for one that spools up more quickly, pushing peak torque to a lower RPM, it may not have to affect peak power of the engine, it might even decrease it. But at those lower RPMs where you now have increased torque, you will also have increased power.
However you have to keep in mind that the figures given to us for an engine are peak figures. It's peak torque and peak power and those are rarely at the same RPM. Generally speaking the power produced at peak torque is going to be less than the peak power the engine can produce.

So I just saw your video, I have a 2012 ultra CVO with just over 110,000 miles with a 117ci dyno at 120 hp and 130 ftlbs. So that road king is like a new bike... lol.. mine still looks brand new as well.. riden almost daily... anyway, just had hype myself up... thanks, I feel so much better....lol... one a more positive note, you guys just gained a new subscriber. I’m not an expert on leaf blowers, that being said I don’t think they actually compress air like a blower or turbo.
Roadkill did the leaf blower thing years ago. They were able to do it, but it took more blowers than they thought they needed. After they had fun with the 15minute runs with the leaf blower batteries, they ended up with a trailer that had an air compressor running on a V8.

Harley and Ryobi had a baby and named it VMAX.
The problem with the leaf blower is the inducer and housing isn't designed to build pressure. Electric turbos work (for short pulls before the separate charging system needs to pull power from the stator) if done correctly.

I don't know why so many people think this kind of thing will work. Leaf blowers are not compressors; they are just fans. They don't build pressure, which is what you need inside an engine to make "boost". Hook that little gs motor to an actual compressor and then it could work, but not with just a fan.
I test drove a Wide Glide at Appalachian Harley for about 20 min.
Had to play with the choke the whole time.
Brought it back and told them they need to go over it before they send it out.
Instead of saying, okay, they said, it takes a Harley a while to warm up.
Needles to say I didn't buy a bike from them.
Take it to the dyno and lets see the numbers!!! Awesome video
I did this on my sons pw50 with air compressor and shot air in the carb and the bike literally revved high it acted like it hit another powerband. It was an interesting experiment

Well your sharp 90° turns may have played a part in how things worked out with the leaf blower. I'm not saying it will work as good as an actual turbo but the leaf blower supercharger thing does work if done properyly, especially on engines under 4 liters.

I've had a Trask turbo on my Vrod for a few years, and would happily have one on every bike I own from here on out. 180whp cruiser. (crappy quality 360 video on my channel if you want to hear turbo noises)
Turbo everything! I love these crazy science project videos! I keep commenting on other youtube channels to hook up an RC Jet engine to a turbo, use that small jet engine thrust to spool the turbine side of the turbo.

I want to start riding but there is no way i could ever scrape up even a couple thousand for a bike. The cars i drive are like £1000 cars that i have for one or two years.

Pro charger air to air intercooler. Blower kit. For Harley DAVIDSONs up to 140 horse on stock engine ...trask is most definitely a solid aftermarket power solution. Not a fan of turbos.. around 5 grand I believe. If your gona do it.. I think the blower set up looks way cooler. Just my opinion.. thank you !!

1 is not enough you need 3 or 4 of them to make any noticeable difference could put 1 in each saddle bag link them all to the same switch and try bigger jets as well more air needs more fuel

HD injection systems don't have a way to directly measure how much air is entering the engine. So, the leaf blower doesn't work. It does work on modern FI cars as they do have mass air sensors.
I actually really like Ryobi. My Ryobi/Subaru pressure washer is awesome. They actually make good stuff.
