Oh my gosh, Dave Duncan taught me to trap, when I came home from Iraq. It is the most therapeutic thing I’ve ever done. I wrote a short story about it that got published in 2008 in Trapper and Predator Caller magazine. Dave is a giant among men.
Thank you, I ended up moving to Alaska a few years later and spent three years in Delta Junction. I am a civilian working for the military now, and doing better than I deserve.
I have a Great Lakes 18" 450 bushmaster barrel and their muzzle break it shoots extremely well. Very good groups at 100 and 200 yards. I'm very happy with it.
Awesome episode on bobcat trapping that was some excellent tips/tricks! My bobcat season in MN starts in a couple days so this came in at the perfect time.
Wow! I thought Great Lakes Firearms and Ammunition had closed after they sold all their ammo stuff years ago. Great to see them still going in their new location. 12:38 Looking at that wall behind Nick makes me wonder whether he has heard of Michigan Senate Bill 1134 which will outlaw about half the guns back there. 22:53 Check that pan. Low tech aluminum. Man knows his stuff, for sure.
So I'm just curious as someone who is relatively new to hunting i am still trying to learn and I am from Michigan. In particular, the thumb. My question is this, I am under the impression that in my state, Michigan, An attractant is considered bait and bait considered an attractant. Does this vary from county to county?Or is it different when trapping? i'm simply asking because that logic would dictate that beaver caster would be considered baiting, correct or?
@@999gloryhog Bobcat are not as sensitive to scent as K9s that’s why he mentioned it in the video. They are so curious that they investigate even if I take zero scent precautions
Jimmy great show once again Would you please do a show/segment. On the new bulls being passed/pushed through into law as of December 13 I just watched a guy on UA-cam called 2A that (is heard to follow) but the house was pushing through a bunch of gun control laws last night. Very concerning as a sportsman And of course it’s not “news worthy “ Thank you And for the father n daughter bobcat trapping. Well done!! But can that coloration in their coat be hereditary? If you get a plain colored female should you take it out so that and let a couple of the well printed ones go to re-breed? Just a curious question.
I have never seen a Bob Cat in my life living in Kalamazoo County MI. Since my Dogs Died I have been trapping Woodchucks. Beavers can be a real Payne and Coyotes Devastate Rabbits, Pheasants, Turkeys, Qual ect. Mice never end, how many of them need to be trapped. Raccoons are very Destructive and way Overpopulated and spread Distemper and Rabies.
I'm a hunter, have done a bit of trapping. Have been all over the state, have some hunting land in Gladwin and up in trout lake. I've never seen a bobcat, never gotten one on a trail cam in 10 years. There are plenty of species out there that are over populated and need management. Bobcats aren't one of them. This unnecessary over hunting of a keystone species goes against the conservation ethos most moral hunters espouse, is what gives hunters a bad name amongst the general public, and will eventually cause the banning of all trapping, even of species that need management.
How come you are not talking about all the new license increases in michigan coming in 2025. The combination license will go from 75.00 to 113.00. All licenses are going up in michigan, including boating licenses. But Michigan out of doors, has not even talked about it. The show has become a joke more proof you are here to help protect the state and no help the hunters.
Grew up watching this show and recently found it on UA-cam. Absolutely love the show, makes me really want to move back to Michigan

I’ll have to look, I believe I read that article and have that magazine somewhere. Glad to hear you’re doing well.

Interesting question, probably would get a better answer from the DNR. Its different when I comes to trapping vs. deer hunting though.
Why do you not do any scent control while trapping?

That recipe was screaming for pepper
🤣
Be careful not to set off the smoke alarm when cooking the venison.
I don't understand why everyone slurps on the 450 so much, 44mag all day

Although a nice feature, this is just a recast from last year...already saw this bobcat video previously 😐
The other two segments were new, bobcat hunting was from a couple years ago.
