The Iron Cross: Good or bad at the table minimum?

We roll out the traditional iron cross at the table minimum level until we start noticing our bankroll being blead away. At which point, we ladder, and recover most of it back, but it begs the question, is the 'traditional' way of playing the iron cross anything more than the casino's way to make the beginning / casual craps player and his money part from one another? I would have to say yes, unless you play it from the don't and hedge your 5, 6, and 8 place bets! Hope you enjoy! :)
