Do they still do the castle building contest, last man standing? I remember that on Maenporth, I must have been about 16 at the time. I am now 61, how did that happen?

I’ve surfed, snorkelled and enjoyed our precious oceans for over 35 years all over the world….although my regular destination will always be our own South West (Devon & Cornwall). I was in Newquay the other night and looked for somewhere to overnight, Porth wanted £54 a night for myself, 2 dogs and a very small camper, people need affordable camping and this country doesn't deliver. I luckily spent the night on some drive but instead of exploring Cornwall like I planned, I just came home
That's a shame and yeah £54 is a rip off. The only answer is finding a nice free spot somewhere which isn't easy, but doable and when you find it,hopefully it's a place you can return to and really enjoy the surroundings.
Hi Shaun, discovered your channel a few weeks ago and think I’ve caught up 😂😂. Love watchin your adventures and really tempted to get a van and do it up myself. Keep up the good work.
May ask a question. How do you keep or what do you do with your key ring for the van and lights alarm etc when you go surfing swimming. Only asking as i kayak have dry bags etc but there is always the chance well nearly always that i cap size while surfing. And they may fail i also sometimes hide them on beach not a great idea i know any suggestions. All Best Mart
I got a key cut from timpsons that doesn’t have a battery in it so it will only open the door of the van (it won’t start the engine) I then put this key in a small dry bag (ziplock sand which bag will also do) and put it inside my wetsuit.

whats annoyed everyone and put a stop to overnight camping in lots of places, is those that take advantage and stop there for weeks on end, especially in really tatty rusty camper vans that look an eyesore. Its being stopped in lots of coastal places in Devon where they had a big problem with travellers especially ruining it for everyone else, leaving rubbish everywhere and basically not caring about the locals. Then there were certain places that you just couldn't find anywhere to park because every space was taken over with vans and camper vans.
In Australia you can park up in road side stops and spend the night there and its free many many years there were these free camping areas which were free and they had a shower and toilet block you had to pay for your shower a couple of dollars but l think they still exist
That’s the way it should be all over the world. Ok I get it that the uk is more overly populated than Australia but we have a lot of land that is not used that could have a short stay policy
I have a similar sandwich toaster (I make banging bacon, brie and cranberry paninis or ciabattas in it) and have found that a lower heat works best to give the filling time to melt before the bread burns. I cook the bacon in it as a frying pan first and then make up the sandwich to toast. I bet they would taste even better at the beach. ❤
Great video as always. Love the drone footage and footage from the sea. Cornwall is such a beautiful place, I can’t wait to call it home (was meant to of been this year but life got in the way, but February we’re moving down). I don’t think I’ve been to Maenporth, so will definitely pay a visit. Falmouth is lovely, always visit when down and stop at Fuel for tasty food (thanks to your instagram stories a while back). Thanks again for the car stickers 🙂
Good stuff mate, in this world of doom and gloom it's a real feel good thing to watch your videos and think about my holidays ,,past and future 👍🏴🏴
I also love that beach in falmouth as well cause when its low tide there , there are loads of caves to explore which i haven't got to yet, if I'm right that cafe was shut for a while due to fire damage but got done up again which is good. Great camera shots as usell mate 🙏🙏
Another great vlog those sea caves looked amazing not sure I would want to be out that far on my own lol. We used to holiday every year in Cornwall great to see some places we have never visited 👍🏻🏴👍🏻
Cracking video again shaun. I like the look off maen porth I must take a look one day, you sandwich looked amazing mate it made me want one. I also know all about that car park as well, keep up the good work mate. 😊😊
I’ve travelled all over Europe, Australia and New Zealand in a motorhome and without doubt, England is the worst place to do it. One of the most beautiful countries in the world, but local councils imposing ridiculous rules and regulations make it a nightmare. Scotland on the other hand….
I couldn’t agree more!! We bring so much to the local economy that the councils are cutting their noses to spite their faces! Frustrating is an understatement
@@TheYummyMummyChannel My wife and I spent a couple of weeks in my home town of Chester in the Roodee car park, which only has about six designated areas for Motorhomes to park and no facilities. We spent almost £2000 “entertaining” friends and family in the city, which is crying out for custom. On the last day, none of the designated parking areas were available so I had to park with the van in a single car space but with the back end hanging over a flat concrete pad, but not in anyones way. I was fined £60 for this!! I told the local council that if they wanted to encourage more people into the city to spend their money and support local businesses, they should consider a proper ‘aire’ like most small towns throughout Europe. I received a simple note in reply - “We’ve considered your request. The fine stands.” And that’s why I now live in France.🤨
@@wallabybob3020 isn’t that just so sad? I had a similar situation in Lyndhurst, Hampshire. When I asked the council why I had got the fine and what else could I do, even they thought it was strange that I got a £60 fine and couldn’t answer as to where else I could have parked? It’s put me off using my motorhome so many times. I believe that there is growing pressure on local authorities to provide UK style “aires” but with the recent spate of “newbies” spawned from the staycation pandemic who empty their toilet cassettes etc into the hedges (yes I was gobsmacked too) and parking across people’s drives etc …then there will always be the rest of us who are respectful who pay the price! Europe seem to have it nailed though but I’m just too chicken too try! Enjoy beautiful France!
@@TheYummyMummyChannel It is sad - and ridiculous! The U.K. has so much to offer. Unfortunately, the ‘travellers’ (Let’s call them what they are - gypsies!) have ruined it for motorhomers. I refuse to stay in a Motorhome and Caravan site for £30 a night, but that’s becoming the only option as they close down any wild camping areas. Get yourself over to Europe. You’ll love it! It’s so much easier to find good spots to stay (Park4Night/Search for sites) and people are much friendlier.
Hi. Just found your channel. I’ve been doing the occasional overnight in my van for years. Often when working away. I even run an iberspacher at night. Never had anyone bother me I’ll definitely do a bit more holiday type overnight stops after watching this
Top tips.... Get yourself some rolled pizza dough (or a garlic ciabatta thing) whack some toppings and cheese on and you can make lush pizzas in the RidgeMonkey 😊 Oh yeah. And get within dashing distance of a latrine if you're gonna drink any non-alcoholic cider! 😂😂
Parking is very difficult and very expensive in parts of Cornwall. indeed near any beach in the UK. Perhaps someone could devise an app for people to let out their front drives for campers to park overnight on. OK, someone's paved drive isn't exactly a sandy beach but at least your parked safely off the road and avoiding penalties. And a good source of revenue for homeowners as well.
Hi Shaun, I to came across your channel a few weeks ago. Watched some of your earlier blogs and I’m really pleased that your channel is growing. Well done for persevering, all good things come to those who wait or in your case persist! 😆 Great video, really enjoyed it on this wet and rainy halloween night! Thanks for all your efforts! Have a good one, see you next week👍🏻
The sign means nothing unless there is a warning of a penalty or parking charge notice. There's been plenty of articles in the papers that people can park on private drives where the land owner does not get any council or police help to get it removed. So basically park as you wish, but best to move on if you are asked by the owner. Have camped over last 3 years in many park ups and never had any problems, apart from boy racers..
Ace video mate and did I spot a new 360 gizmo in there? The first pub visit you did was a bit of a reverse Cheers, "Where every body doesn't know your name"! LOL, later buddy. 😄
Great video Shaun as always mate. How come there is resistance about van life in Cornwall? I do a lot of wild camping and I'm sure most the van life guys also go by the leave no trace standard. I'm sure if the car parks and pubs offered over night stays for a couple of £'s per night surely that would give them such a huge revenue over the year.
I think it’s probably because there’s so many vans down here that never move but who knows. A lot more pubs are offering overnight stays in your van now though
@@LoveSundays Yeah loved the thought of pubs offering that service. I know Newquay has quite a few vans now but isnt that part of the surf culture down there?
What Drone are you using please. I’m guessing it’s a Mavic mini? Reason for asking is they are better for camp trips, and you can get closer due to the weight
Thanks, i have loads of drones, im looking to buy the mini 3, as its safer and because its 249 grams, there is less seperation between uninvolved people. we also have a camper we built. keep up the good work.. Norm
I use my toastie maker for all sorts, cook bacon in it, no need to turn the bacon just flip the thing over and turn it on its side to drain any fat into a paper towel! There mega
Great content again Shaun loved the snorkeling as always although bad viz. A question if you don't mind snorkeling or surfing which do you prefer?.I'm a lot older than you and my favourite is snorkeling and hopefully maybe next summer we could get out to the Ben asdale together. Great video and getting better all the time thanks Shaun.
I’d probably say I find snorkelling more calming and I’ve been snorkelling longer than I have surfing so probably snorkelling. Yea I’d be up for a trip out to the Ben asdale mate
It's refreshing to see some one ...who obviously enjoys what there doing .......has for the parking nightmare ...we all know where we stand on these extortionate scams that either councils or private companies are charging ...keep up the travelling ....its nice to see our own sea landscapes ...because there so beautiful...
Was your van low mileage when you brought it. This earth was given to us free and the government and councils believe they own it and say we can't park up
I used to practice in the sink at home. Put a mask on fill the sink with water set a timer and hold your breathe then just keep trying to hold for longer. It’s not the same as being in the sea as the water pressure isn’t as high but it does help
@@ElliotCartlidge1 that’s pretty good. It depends on your age and lifestyle I guess. When I was in my younger years I could hold mine for over 2 minutes but now I’m nearly 40 I’m around the 1 minute mark.

The fine stands.”
And that’s why I now live in France.🤨
Never had anyone bother me
I’ll definitely do a bit more holiday type overnight stops after watching this
Welcome to the channel
Top tips.... Get yourself some rolled pizza dough (or a garlic ciabatta thing) whack some toppings and cheese on and you can make lush pizzas in the RidgeMonkey 😊
Oh yeah. And get within dashing distance of a latrine if you're gonna drink any non-alcoholic cider! 😂😂
I have to try this now thank you
Chain locker is great , Beerwolfe is good for a pint and a read.
Agreed
Another great day out. Insta added, Shaun what leisure battery do you use and how long will it last you off grid. Cheers
This is the one I have mate amzn.to/3SJXD2I
Parking is very difficult and very expensive in parts of Cornwall. indeed near any beach in the UK. Perhaps someone could devise an app for people to let out their front drives for campers to park overnight on. OK, someone's paved drive isn't exactly a sandy beach but at least your parked safely off the road and avoiding penalties. And a good source of revenue for homeowners as well.
Good idea
Great video Shaun!👌
Thank you
Hi Shaun, great video, what cameras are you using?
All the camera I use are in the video description Bob 👍
@@LoveSundays Of course, cheers.
Thanks Andrew
The sign means nothing unless there is a warning of a penalty or parking charge notice. There's been plenty of articles in the papers that people can park on private drives where the land owner does not get any council or police help to get it removed. So basically park as you wish, but best to move on if you are asked by the owner. Have camped over last 3 years in many park ups and never had any problems, apart from boy racers..
Good tips
Butter on the outside 😉great video 👍
Thanks Mark
Superb vid .... thanks for the what 3 words location I swear by that app 👍👍👍👍
Glad it helps. I’m going to start doing that on all my vids now I think
@@LoveSundays yea thinknit would be a good idea.... looking to head down there in next 3 weeks
Ace video mate and did I spot a new 360 gizmo in there? The first pub visit you did was a bit of a reverse Cheers, "Where every body doesn't know your name"! LOL, later buddy. 😄
I’m glad someone noticed the 360 😂
I noticed it too 😄
I noticed it too! I follow some equestrian vloggers and they use them a lot. 😊
looks like you've acquired a 360 camera now, which one did you get~?
Insta360 X3
There’s always parking on Melville road.
Love these videos! Have you tried St Agnes Head? Such a cool spot and no parking charges! As far as I’ve seen anyway!
I’ll have to check it out. I’ve been there loads of the years but never camped there
@@LoveSundays I’ve always thought about it! May be a bit windy though 😂
Question .. sea beach is supposed to be free to use as a camping spot . Why it has an owner ?
It’s the carpark that’s owned unfortunately
@@LoveSundays love your videos .. keep up the good work
What do they define as overnight parking?
I guess it’s parking past midnight until sunrise
Great video Shaun as always mate. How come there is resistance about van life in Cornwall? I do a lot of wild camping and I'm sure most the van life guys also go by the leave no trace standard.
I'm sure if the car parks and pubs offered over night stays for a couple of £'s per night surely that would give them such a huge revenue over the year.
I think it’s probably because there’s so many vans down here that never move but who knows. A lot more pubs are offering overnight stays in your van now though
@@LoveSundays What's the typical price for overnight in a pub car park /site?
@@LoveSundays Yeah loved the thought of pubs offering that service. I know Newquay has quite a few vans now but isnt that part of the surf culture down there?
Most pubs don’t charge if you utilize them.. look up britstops
What Drone are you using please. I’m guessing it’s a Mavic mini? Reason for asking is they are better for camp trips, and you can get closer due to the weight
Yea it is a Mavic mini. You can see my full list of camera gear in the description
Thanks, i have loads of drones, im looking to buy the mini 3, as its safer and because its 249 grams, there is less seperation between uninvolved people. we also have a camper we built. keep up the good work.. Norm
Wow 24k followers and climbing - well done 🎉
Thanks Adele
I only drive on to the carpark a Falmouth beach and because didn't bit ticket within 10 mins of me drjbjng round looking for a space they fined me lol
It happens all
The time doesn’t it
I use my toastie maker for all sorts, cook bacon in it, no need to turn the bacon just flip the thing over and turn it on its side to drain any fat into a paper towel! There mega
Yea I’m planning to do some experiments with it
Was that cam hanging out the van a 360 x2 or the newer one ?
Well that's Sunday Lunch fixed tomorrow .
It’s the insta360 X3 👍
Cracking video as ever, now I’ve got two red marks on top of my knee’s where my elbows have been whilst watching your video….! Guess where I was.🤣🤣👍🦊
Poo tube 😂
@@LoveSundays yep 🤣🤣
Add butter to either side of the outside of the bread then toast it! Great content.
Yea I would normally add butter to the outside but wanted to test it without just to see if I could just toast it plus it less messy lol
Branstons! I've just discovered this in the USA. 😋
Beautiful pickle isn’t it
nice mate what a view to wake up to for sure
Thanks John
Another good video ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers Jimmy
It's refreshing to see some one ...who obviously enjoys what there doing .......has for the parking nightmare ...we all know where we stand on these extortionate scams that either councils or private companies are charging ...keep up the travelling ....its nice to see our own sea landscapes ...because there so beautiful...
Thanks Mick
Looks awesome. Are you lucky enough to live in Cornwall?
Yes I live in Cornwall and go camping most weekends
Trust me, you need to butter the outside of the toasty next time, game changer .
Yea totally agree I just didn’t want the mess 😂
@@LoveSundays it’s worth the mess and you know it 😂
Was your van low mileage when you brought it. This earth was given to us free and the government and councils believe they own it and say we can't park up
The van had 135k miles on it when I bought it so not too bad
@@LoveSundays I just can't find anything with reasonable mileage
How’d you dry your wetsuit off when your in your camper 👍
I don’t I wash and dry it when I get home normally. If I’m away in the van for longer than 1 night I just hang it over my back doors in the sun
@@LoveSundays do you have any tips or advice for someone to improve there underwater breath holds to stay under for longer
Cheers 👍
I used to practice in the sink at home. Put a mask on fill the sink with water set a timer and hold your breathe then just keep trying to hold for longer. It’s not the same as being in the sea as the water pressure isn’t as high but it does help
@@LoveSundays thank you I can hold mine for about 45-1 minute do you think that’s any good
@@ElliotCartlidge1 that’s pretty good. It depends on your age and lifestyle I guess. When I was in my younger years I could hold mine for over 2 minutes but now I’m nearly 40 I’m around the 1 minute mark.
Have you tried fake business magnets and parking near other vans? Or near businesses?
I’ve got some on order actually
OOOH is that a 360 camera?
Insta 360 X3 terry
Newquay is lucky people want to park over night !!
If we all stopped coming they would cry 😢
when you said, "Bye, cave," I seriously laughed... that was funny, Shaun...
We’re old friends me and that cave 😂
@@LoveSundays dude I totally get it. Lol.
Great videos.Very relaxed style makes for a friendly viewing experience. When are you going to do a video called "how much I got paid for 1 million veiws". Would be super interesting.
🤔 that’s an idea
Falmouth is bigger than you think. Probably best town in Cornwall
Agreed I lived there for 15 years
@@LoveSundays when it was alot Cheaper haha
Great watch as usual Shaun....fab cave ✊😁. Are you doing anything for Halloween 🎃👻...just a thought 🚐💝👍
I was going to but then decided against it as I just didn’t have time to make a Halloween special. Maybe next year though
Do I spy a new camera?
Always better weather in Cornwall
