Pasty is usually beef skirt, potato, swede and onion plus seasoning. People sometimes put carrot in them now, but this is not a traditional ingredient. The crust was usually thrown away as it was the 'handle' the miners used to eat it, to avoid arsenic poisoning! Cornish pasty has crust around the side Devon pasty has crust over the top like a stegasaurus. Glad you enjoyed it a good one is delicious! Nice to see you in the Southwest hope you enjoy your visit with us and come back in the better weather. all the best James.
A hint of black pepper for taste!
100% 😊
Is it a myth that the original ones had half meat and potatoes and half apple pie type ingredients such that the miners had effectively a main and a pudding in one package ?.
@@thenomad9853 It's true. I saw a place selling them once but it was only that one time, I have never been able to find them again.
What is a swede ? Im swedish so lm a bit confused.
When you get to Falmouth try a pint of Rattlers cider one of Cornwall's quality products from 5 degrees west.(pub)
We went to St Ives every year (from Barnsley) - and had the best time sitting outside the Sloop consuming masses of Rattlers cider - it's beautiful stuff!!!
Yes! Rattler is magical!!!
It is cold but no crowds of tourists mobbed in back streets
Nice to see the little shops in back streets
The sea looks emerald green as well
Stay safe look forward to next investigation 😊
Thank you
The birds are Turnstones James, thanks for posting.
Absolutely love St Ives, me and my wife long before we married went there over 30 years ago and have been going as often as we can, last went in October this year. Our children now regularly visit too including our grandchildren. Your video bought back so many happy memories!
Loved your walk-about and seeing all those lovely cottage homes in the back streets, each one added onto the next building, higgledy-piggledy style. Perfect views without all the summer tourists 😍
Lucky you James we love Cornwall try a pint of tribute or rattles cider on your journey you will have to take Helen down in the summer she will love it cant wate for your next vlog Falmouth. phil & tina barnsley
Whenever I park in a new place I always go on google maps and ‘drop a pin’. Just in case I don’t recall how to find my back - which is frequently.
Oh what a view to wake up to, absolutely stunning. Beautiful place and lovely seeing all those windy streets and cottages. Pasty looked right filling and delicious 😋 your vlogs and music are exceptional now James 😊
Thank you Sandra
That opening was stunning; absolutely stunning. I didn't want it to end. Those images! That music! Truly beautiful, James. You definitely have a talent for making videos. I didn't expect to be made to feel sad and, later, very, very nostalgic. Just keep doing what you are doing for you are doing something right.
💯 agree ❤
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. 🙂
Ha ha love it, 'wait a bit' to the seagull.
We were there once and saw a seagull nick a chicken leg, fly off and gulp it in one, talk about cannibalism!🍗
Hello James. We are definitely spoilt for choice in the UK. It is beautiful. Have never been to St Ives. What a lovely place, wouldn't fancy going there in the summer though. Thanks for taking us on your journey. Love to Helen, you are so lucky to have found each other.
Thank you, we are! 😍
Ooh don't let the locals catch you feeding seagulls 😮😂😂 it's fround upon . 😂
Only know through experience, we went to Cornwall 14 years on the run when our lads were growing up, and we made the mistake of feeding them our left over bits of fish and chips,as a fisherman was walking past, he gave us a right rollicking. 😂😂 never fed them again. Love your vlogs by the way.
Nice place, only ever visited the once that being September 1996 - stayed in a little caravan site near Truro, bugger of a drive down from Glasgow and I seen a ghost on the way home, only ever time in my life I seen a ghost, headless fella walking in the direction we were heading ''North'' when we were returning back home.
I swerved past him in lane 3 - The weird thing is, the following month I was sitting feeding my daughter while watching Richard & Judy and it was Halloween, they were asking people to phone in with any ghost stories, a lady called in saying she seen a ghost on the motorway and described the very ghost that I also seen, apparently it was a biker that was killed and a few people have seen him, had never seen a ghost ever before that, or after.
Thanks again James.
Lovely looking place. I feel sorry for posties and couriers, having to navigate those little back streets!
Winter is definitely the best time to visit seaside places, nice and quiet.
Enjoy.
I bet they are quite fit 🙂
If you're going to Falmouth without stopping in Marazion, Porthleven or on the Lizard Peninsula, then you're missing out on some of the best bits Cornwall has to offer. Turn around immediately 😉
Hi James!
Another great video. My husband and I go to St Ives every summer for our holidays. We love it there. It certainly is a beautiful place. Glad to see you enjoyed it.
Hi James - Excellent video as usual. My daughter’s mum is Cornish so this brings back memories of visits to Cornwall.
Beautiful start and wonderful scenery, you show us what other videos don't. Your videos are getting better all the time. But the best of all is that you are you and not putting on an act. Great stuff keep it up.
That Tesco in St Ives used to be a caravan site called Chy An Gweal.
Thats where we'd stay as a family every summer for my 1st 14/15 years
Was ace.....peaceful, calm, used to have a shop and an arcade on site
Many hours spent playing Space Invaders and Defender in there!
Getting all nostalgic now
St Ives looks very quirky and picturesque. Thank you for the tour
Beautiful part of our great country. Chilly on the coast, even down south. No 2here like in the world really, unique in its pure format! Lovely!!
Brilliant vlogs James and Helen, well impressed with the quality and places you visit, keep them coming👍
Thanks 👍
Great video James. Loving the content. Keep up the good work.
Another great vid mate, looking forward to the next instalment!
Enjoying the Cornish tour James! some great filming.
Another great vlog James… St. Ives looks beautiful .. hope you had a peaceful nights sleep 😴
Having walked the entire length of the Cornish SW Coast path, every single foot of the most arduous up hill and down hill walks i have ever done. I love the place. I would move there in a heartbeat. If I won the lottery, it would be my favourite place to live. Stick South of France and the Caribbean, Cornwall for me 🙂👍
Absolutely love St Ives and Cornwall as a whole ,it's beautiful and just keeps drawing me back.Always have a nice warm feeling when I'm there, and the sloop inn I've had many a pint inn just love the place..All the best to you and Helen James. Stuart ( the mad Yorkshireman)
Found your channel when you were 1st in Benidorm, loved it & had to watch everyone of your videos, keep them coming, what a lovely genuine couple. X
Thank you so much 😊❤️
Thanks James much appreciated and enjoyed . I am to old to walk up those steep banks so it feels like you did it for me .
A lovely episode James very enjoyable. The bird sketch was very funny 😅 First class content as always.
Thank you!
Thanks James, keep the videos coming, some beautiful footage, thanks for the views... Well done...
very calming vlog James ty really looked peaceful
Nice little travelogue and I enjoyed the occasional reflection as well on Nature and 'seizing the moment'. Always good advice and so hard to put into action in one's life.
Thank you
Brilliant video James, great intro and very informative. Good luck in Foulmarth.
Your vids are excellent, love the authenticity and your dulcet tones 🥰
Some nice camera work and great editing in this one ken. Appreciate the effort 🙂
We went to St Ives in the summer. Both of us lost our ice creams! Apparently standing back to a wall does the trick.
Same here! Gone in a flash - cornet n all!!!
You gotta have a pasty when you’re in Cornwall. It’s just the done thing.
It looks a pretty little place. There is actually a Cornish witchcraft museum somewhere in Cornwall which looks mint but it’s actually shut until April 2024 but if you and Helen are back there in Spring then you could both check it out. Maybe pick up merch and a few books to read at night in the cosy van. Apparently they have some really interesting books. Not sure about the prices mind. But it’s well worth a look James
The Witchcraft Museum in Boscastle x
Another great video, St Ives is lovely but gets absolutely packed in the summer.. I do enjoy a pasty with a beer afterwards 😊
Loved watching you walk around St Ives, I used to live there 😊
Exellent camera work of the Turquoise sea, enjoyed all the views.
Enjoying the content as always. They are Turnstones, as you experienced very friendly chaps😄
There used to be signs up around St. Ives saying "Please do not feed the seagulls as they can become aggressive"! My partner saw one literally take food out of a man's mouth scratching his face in the process. May 2024.
Happy trails....
Another interesting video James keep it up thanks
The size of that pasty it's huge and full. St.Ives looks a lovely place to visit I have never been.
I went last year with my wife..it is beautiful!..best time to go would be april/May or September to avoid the crowds, but it is truly, truly beautiful!👍
Great vlogging, love the update of your journey, need more timelapses, there always fantastic to watch 📸 ⌚.. Such a lovely place, thank you.
Thanks, Im still learning how to make them
Good stuff dude!! I love your videos!!
Loving your tours 😊
There are signs all along the harbour telling folk not to feed the birds! The chapel on the island is my best hangover spot - blows it right out of you and the cliffs at the back are where my ashes are going. I once got a pasty from that shop and went to sit by the lifeboat house to eat it. The tide was out and there was a group of surly German goths in those big daft boots shuffling about. A glorious sight. I’d never go in summer, nightmare place, but winter is refreshing and cheaper.
Hi James awsome show merry Christmas to yourself and Helen all the very best 😊😊 Colin in Australia
great opening to the video James.. Cornish pastie mmm yummy, nowt like that over here bud..TC 👍🙏
It is beautiful down there, We went 2 years ago for the first time to St Ives, we stayed just outside in Hayle and caught the train in as in summer its very hard to find parking and so glad we did it was a lovely train ride, Carbis Bay is stunning and the sea is so Blue ♥ the journey down for us was a bit of a pain as the roadworks around Newquay was horrendous in the Sept when we went down and we said we wouldn't go back until the main road was finished as it was very stressful. I was fortunate that a friend from work used to live down there and gave me all the best bits to visit. Hopefully we will go again and maybe stay around Godrevy as we spotted Seals and there was a decent pub that served my favorite drink Blue Moon !
Hi James I went too st Ives it's a beautiful place mate isn't it ... I went in summer 5 years ago ... That much too see the old back streets are wonderful mate thanks for video cu on next one 💯🤗
Beautiful St Ives even in winter in summer every man and his dog is there lol....ramed 😂...enjoy James 😊
It's James o'clock...
....when you mentioned how beautiful the bays were, my inner self heard Jane's voice replying ''Ooohh. I wonder how many families were conceived on here then" 🐚⛱
St Ives… beautiful place! Expensive mind down there. Hey wicked video James, loved it as always pal! Falmouth is meant to be ace, never been there. So many places of Cornwall I would like to visit! …. Smithy
Hi James. You're in my part of the world Cornwall. I live in Penzance only a couple of minutes from st Ives. Lived in st Ives for a few years. Very busy in summer but dead in winter. Penzance. Newlyn. Mouseall. Are brilliant to visit. St Michaels mount is another good visit. Hope you enjoy your stay.. all the best to you and Helen..
Birds are Turnstones, mums house in Porthmeor square. Never go April to October as too many Emmets
Hi I love st just and Penzance, I have family drown that way and we go and SEE them.hope you have a wonderful time .Take care. 👍👍
The seagull thing was hilarious 😂 😃 😄 😁 🤣
Looks stunning love the video.
Yep I loved that opening time-lapse… when you say you spend too long editing it shows you know, it’s worth the effort I think, I love the little clips you’ve added in the past etc, it makes your work stand out above the rest. St Ives was as I expected… hilly; looking forward to Falmouth… 👍🏻
Thank you, unfortunately Falmouth was a washout, and I had to come home as I've got my daughter
Hiya James, a very beautiful place especially in the summer if you visit in-between holiday times.
We had a fabulous light low flying aircraft tour of Cornwall available from the small airfield near Sennen Cove.
The sea in St Ives is clear & a fantastic turquoise blue like you get abroad, because of the sand. Enjoy ✨🌟🧡🧡🌟✨👍
Good stuff jud🎉🎉 living the dream pal 🎉🎉...nice n quiet aswell....I'd hate Tobe down ther in summer....done it once.. never again in August....👍 Keep m coming
Brilliant views - Beautiful Place - I haven't been as yet though would Love to go even more so now after your Video - Thanks for Uploading - James
Those little birds are called turn stones 😊 StIves’s is my home town .
Thank you!
Nice vid James 😊👍😎
James your skills continue to improve every week. That was very well flimed and very well edited. The intro was really excellent. Beautiful in fact. Your skills are well improving lad. Impressive - seriously. Anyway it was a very good film of St Ives because most people will gloss over it quickly but you filmed loads of those beautiful cobbled back streets and alleyways that St Ives has. A really good advert for the place. (me missus says that we are going there next year 🙄). Keep up the great work. Love it.
Thanks mate, I've heard it gets pretty busy in summer though!!
Beef skirt , potatoes, turnip or Swede onions Cornish butter to make the gravy , salt and white pepper
You're doing what l did last year James, I was there in June, and stayed there for six months in a place called Boscastle. For obvious reasons lol. At the moment I've been spending time in Saint-Tropez. Good content, l really enjoy your videos brother 👌
I have just found your channel. Brilliant laid back vlog bit of scenery bit of chat to camera, some food and drink reviews love it keep up the good work. I am from Cornwall so I am pleased you liked the pasty. 👍👍
Thank you, glad you liked the video
Glad you got to St Ives, we left this morning, had a week there. Best beach in the world, check out the house that you were parked next to in Porthmeor beach, it was an old council house now look at it, check the rental rates on it, you will be amazed. Great video as usual
At the end of that vlog bud,you look like you were thinking what the fu@k am I doing here for a split second ,keep it going man I’m loving this sh@t,you’re one of the best you tubers I’m watching at the moment, hats off!
You found the best pastie shop in St Ives and the Sloop for beer. A magical place but not during school summer holidays it gets too busy. The galleries, beach cafes, restaurants and bars are excellent. Three main beaches one ideal for surfers, one for bathers and the small one great for young families.
Lovely vlog, I've never been to Cornwall but I'm thinking maybe next year I'll head over from Belfast and down that way - out of season though, too many people otherwise. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your travels 🙂🙂
What a quaint place, lovely video James, thanks
Thanks so much for showing us beautiful St Ives, i went about 40 years ago and it was busy and expensive then and at more than £4.00 for 4 hours parking in the winter i wont be hastening back. Head over to France, equally beautiful and free parking everywhere 😂
I live near st.ives and I still love the place , even in summer when its heaving !
Love going to places like that in Spring and late Autumn when all the tourists have gone home. No such thing as cold weather, just wearing the wrong clothes. I should know, living in Canada!
brilliant video. you were hilarious with the savage sea gulls 😂😂😂 have a fantastic week, love to you & helen❤
Great vid mate, sound was good
Hi Jame yes the pasty’s where for the miners, sometimes half was filled with the meat potato and swede things like that and the other half was the pudding side with something sweet inside. The thick crust was to hold and not be eaten. Another gr8 episode James. Seetheee. Maxx
Thanks Maxx, interesting, I loved the crust 😂
Been to St Ives , its lovely. Great Video ❤
The birds are either Turnstones or Sandpipers like you say. They are always a lot on Smeatons Pier (left of harbour) as the Harbour Master and public feed them on the wall.
Great video again mate.
Pop into Mevagissey it’s a lovely Cornish fishing village. And have a pint in the Fountain inn the olds pup in the village.
Lovely town thanks for sharing.
Hi using maps on phone it will tell you where your car is and navigate you back using walking directions you can keep phone in pocket using vocal instructions. I used it in Great Yarmouth when I was staying in Waverley Hotel. Couldn’t find a parking space so drove round a bit eventually found a space a quarter of a mile away. Next morning couldn’t remember where I’d parked it but looked at maps on phone and it told me where my car was parked. Brilliant although it might seem obvious but a good tip if you don’t already know. Love your videos by the way.
Been the St Ives many times, I prefer Carbis bay nearby great hotels and lovely quiet beaches. 👍🏻
Pleased you made it down all the way to St Ives!
Loved the intro with the music and the camera edit
Thank you
Your in my favourite place love St Ives, be down again in June 2024, the small beach with the huts was Porthgwidden, very popular family beach in summer.❤❤
You caused that seagull fight James 😂😂😂❤❤❤
I live 5 miles outside Snives. I only ever visit it in the winter as normally you can hardly walk as you are crushed shoulder to shoulder with visitors! 😆
I was there just after lockdown and it was full of Italians for some reason. Summer is a big no. I was busking there millions of years ago one summer and you can’t move.
Amazing van conversion! Narrow streets remind me of Mousehole or ‘Mouzel’ as the Cornish pronounce it!
James when you come up the other side of the coast check out, Polperro and Looe, you won’t be disappointed. Ironically you passed the cottage that we were staying in. Just back home now watching your video, strange, keep safe, keep well and keep doing what you are doing…..
Loving your vlogs, Have you ever been to Saltburn Its like a mini Scarborough, I went for the first time in July it was lovely place to enjoy.
Good stuff.
