So hard to rally everyone together? Particularly the Scots. It's always been their downfall. They enjoy a good rowdy disagreement so you couldn't meld them together without a really strong-willed leader. They also never had enough; enough men, enough supplies, enough food, enough modern (for those times) weapons. They'd go off to war with a pitchfork but no lunchbox. I'm afraid Dugal shows more than just a bit psychopathic. He covers it well most of the time but at times like this it slips out.
Thought if I had to guess, it's (one of many) French and French-derived names and words that got English-ified over time (like, both our main characters' last names, for example)
Diana Gabledon put her fictional characters into actual historical events. I can never understand why so many "reactors" can't be bothered to do even the basic research in something like Wikipedia. Instead they are determined to rush into theories that later prove ill judged. We were born with two eyes and ears but one mouth, as the saying goes use the two before the one. Prestonpans refers to a village that exists today just south along the coast from Edinburgh with its local salt pans where salt was harvested from evaporated sea water. Prestonpans is near to Musselburgh , the birth place of John Muir the man credited with the idea for the world's first national parks (Yosemite) which he lobbied for having emigrated to California as a boy. The battle of Prestonpans was one of the few wins by the Jacobite army as it marched south as far as Derby ( not that far from a frightened London) before retreating to Scotland. As with most wars of this times it was driven by religion, who had the best route to salvation, and whether kings were appointed by God. Not something many folk take seriously nowadays but for which they were prepared to die for or kill for back then.
Maybe they’re being cautious in searching stuffs related to the series because it may spoil them of the story. There’s a reactor to this series that pauses and searches for stuffs and goes on tangents but they were mostly about things like daggers, shields and small details. Searching historical events that the story took place in may be risky for reactors.
i love your reactions. this episode absolutely wrecked me and awed me. the filming of the battle was beautiful and heart breaking.
WOW… Incredibly impressed that you figured out Angus would not make it! Kudos to you!
Impressive call with Angus and the explosion…. I was completely called off guard when I first saw it
I cried so much when Angus died.
Prestonpans is a grubby little seaside town on the east coast of Scotland, about 11 miles from Edinburgh.
This is SUCH a great Episode!!!!!!
RIP Angus.

Yup, good but really tough episode! What a boy Fergus' age must be going through after that, unfathomable.
Prestonpans does sound what it looks like. You said it correctly! It’s not French 😊

Angus was my favorite 😢
Fergus is 10yrs old at this point in time in the books though the actor playing him was 14 at the time
This is the ep where I really gave up on Dougal after what he did to Lt. Foster. He's a flat out bad guy, imo.
Agreed even if arguably on the wrong side he always conducted himself well. He Deserved a hand not a dirk.
I think Fergus is about 10 years.
It was in this episode that it finally sinked in that we’re about to lose the hairy highlanders. Battle of Culloden is happening 😢.
Right! I felt it at the end of S2E9 when that chilling ode to Charlie (Moch Sa Mhadainn) starts playing. And in this ep, the reality sinks in. So sad.
Good episode love the video imon Nation stay motivated dream big 1 mill on the way
Yes, yes yes! Let’s go 😂
