I just went to a repair shop for this and they want to charge me $60-$70 for doing what you just did for $20 and some patience and know how. Thank you for posting this, you have no idea how much this helps me right now.
This is a realy good step by step example. My dell (extact same model) actually had the opposing problem of a damaged ac dc adaptor on the charger. I never would have found that out without your help. Thank you, you saved me good money.
@@wasimshaikh6426 Sorry, I don't have one of these anymore. I also don't recall seeing a separate hard drive. The "hard drive" might be part of the motherboard and not be replaceable.
makes me wonder if charger receptacle is badly designed, lots of people complaining about the "Plugged In - Not Charging" error and I have never seen it on any other laptop I've owned.
Yo thanks for the informative video, looking to fix the same issue and was wondering if u still have the link to the part you ordered since we know it works! Thanks in advance ill look around for it on ebay in the meantime.
No problem. I am glad this video was helpful. The seller I got it from still has some under the same listing: www.ebay.com/itm/DC-POWER-JACK-HARNESS-CABLE-Dell-Inspiron-11-3162-P24T-3168-GDV3X-450-07604-0001-/222417571381?hash=item33c91ece35:g:1fgAAOSwTuJYrP-i The description of the part i got was: DC POWER JACK HARNESS CABLE Dell Inspiron 11 3162 P24T 3168 GDV3X 450.07604.0001 I also added this to the video info.
mine is also an 11-3147 but yours looks a bit more curvy than mine. Anyway my problem is that there is a bad contact between the charger and the charger receptacle. I will get this weird message, "Plugged In - Not Charging". The charger will work for supplying power, but it will not work for charging the battery. But if I twist the charger cable just so, the charger light will come on and the 11-3147 battery will start charging. Have the same problem with two different chargers. Just noticed one of the charger cables has a tear in the sheath right at the plug. That makes me think the charger cables might be the problem ... BUT it's weird that that it works for powering the laptop, but not for charging eh? So I'm wondering whether there might be something wrong in the charger receptacle too.
Jim, I think you might be on to something with the broken socket. There are 5 wires for this socket. 2 Red 2 Black and 1 White. Typically you just need 2 (1 positive and 1 Negative) for charging. I did not think about it until you said something but they could be using the white wire to sense if the plug is in and one set of red and black could go to the charger circuit and the other could go to the power bus. I have no idea why they would do it this way. It seems like the whole thing would be easier to break out on the circuit board. If those wires go different places it is possible that you are only getting contact on some of them and that is causing your problem. I wish you luck with fixing your computer. Thanks for commenting!
If the power port is a (3162) do I have to order a (3162 charger) bc I think my charger is broken because before I used to move the cord and it stops charging.
I would say to fix it the same way I did in the video. I would recommend just getting the new wire assembly. The wire could probably be fixed, but you will probably spend more effort than just buying a new/fixed one.
@@Clespol I have lots of ideas, but not a lot of time. Thanks for the encouragement. Hopefully this will give me a little kick in the butt to move forward again.
JayAmir2002 once all the screws are out open the display and try to find the scene between the top and bottom of the computer / keyboard part. This is about the two-minute Mark of this video. I used a specialized prying tool. The corner of an old credit card or a guitar pick would work just as well. (Maybe even one of the wifes butter knives without the serrated edge might work if she's not looking) Using the prying device just work around the seam until the whole thing pops in 2. I would also say slow and steady wins this race. Double and triple check that you have all the screws out. Slowly work your way around the case with the prying tool. Too much force, or forcing it when they're still a screw, will lead to Broken plastic. I hope that helps.
Thanks I was just bout to take mine to a repair shop but looking at your video is going to save me a lot of money..thanks let u know once I get the part
I need help, i fixed the charging port and everything thing but when i plug it in it does not go in all the way and it just says plugged in but its still on 0, im not sure if i have the wrong charger but my dad keeps saying to replace the battery. And when i said it doesn’t go in all the way its around half way in and i dont want to force it in because i felt a good amount of resistance behind it
For me, as soon as i connect to power port, the tiny little light that is on the adapter box goes off. And the laptop won't start charging. Not sure what could be the issue and unable to find help in lockdown situation. Any suggestions please?
