This LEGIT sounds like a mix of PRELUDE with GEHENNA and IF ITS RAIN WHAT YOU WANT.... Skin ticket vibes too... I love their slow sound
I always thought it sounded like "If rain what you want" you're the first person I seen that picked that up

I love how lyrics/music are subjective. For me, I hear the lyrics & listen to my mom's POV who passed earlier this year. We all gave up on her, she was a heroin addict. She was doing very well for awhile then OD'ed. I always feel guilty & think she did what she did to release of the burden... she died for our family. I miss her everyday, I wouldn't know about this band without her. Listening to slipknot when I was 5 years old. RIP Stephanie Fears

@@kennethwilliams2738 my first concert was static x at a very small hole in the wall place with her in 05. I also got to see linkin park with her in 08. I've yet to see slipknot live though
@@kanefears4245 I've been a hard-core maggot since 2000 and haven't been able to see them live.... I totally understand their anger, hate, and angst. Lol.... I think it's time.... I expect the album after this to possibly be the best we have ever heard... which I know sounds crazy, but no Roadrunner records means they can do anything and everything they want.
This sounds really good again. They evolved through the years. A more polished sound, but still it has got that dirty undertone.
Reminds me of a mix of Killpop and Vermilion. I really love the experimentation Slipknot does. I think that is one of the many qualities that makes this band so great. They do not just stick to the "classic Slipknot" sound, but look for other creative ways to put out their art. Yen has moved its way up to my favorite track so far, off of "The End, So far". Also, I couldnt wait to see your reaction to this. Knew it would be love at first listen :)
I didn't really care for the last single, but I think this one is great. Looking forward to discovering the overall tone of the album.

I love your title here.... dying for Yen.... when Slipknot says this, I am almost certain they are talking about dying to bring money and rep to the Metal genre... not sell out... fkn love this band so much. They aren't for the hall of fame, they are for the history books
Will never be another Iowa, but I think we may hear a revisit to the self title genre they invented
Sounds like they’re going , a little dare I say..prog? Everything sounds crystal clear, the mix is prolly the best I’ve heard since volume 3. The heavy is still there, and I truly appreciate that. So far so good.

That riff that plays after Sids solo is basically a modified version of another riff they did in a different song. I was half expecting Corey to start yelling: "This is the virus! The virus of life!" Dont know if it was on purpose or not. Personally I like the way Corey finishes the chorus in that higher tone. One thing that I've always loved about his voice is the lower registry of it but I also like when he goes higher with it sometimes. I'm a really big fan of his vocals across the board and its not only because of how talented he is but also because of his tennor-baratone mix. I don't hear a lot of metal vocalists with that deeper singing voice anymore. For some reason for the past 10 or 15 years most metal vocalists have a very high pitched singing voice and I'm not really a fan of that sound. I'll listen to a new band and it'll be awesome from the music and screaming but then the vocalist starts singing and I'm like NOPE. I know I'm probably in the minority here but when I listen to bands like Ice Nine Kills I like everything except the singing. Same for (sorry if I spell their name wrong) Pariphery or Pariph? Anyway however their name is spelled and said I like the music and screaming but then the guy starts singing and it's like his nuts haven't dropped or something. Problem for me is thats the majority of bands now and has been for years. Maybe its because I grew up in the 90s and a lot of singers just had more gruff, deeper singing voices. Nowadays its like singers just want to sound like everyone else and have higher pitched nasaly vocals. I've put on playlists of heavier newer bands and there were times where I actually 100% genuinely thought it was the same band playing like 7 songs straight but each one was a different band. I miss when you could really tell a singer apart. Like, when you hear Corey Taylor you know it's him. When you hear Chad from Mudvayne etc you know it's him.

I know what you mean and I agree. Vocals can really make or break a band for me. There are certain types of voices that appeal to me and certain types that I can't stand. Even Corey Taylor is a bit hit or miss for me at times with the clean singing (sorry, maggots). Anytime a metal voice comes off as too whiny or nasally it turns me off almost automatically. The only time I'm a fan of higher pitch singing voices are usually women who have classical training, those voices are beautiful and powerful at the same time. Otherwise, I also prefer deeper, grittier vocals for metal.

I agree, there will never be another Iowa and some people have to just accept that. With that said who’s to say after roadrunner they might go back to a classic Slipknot sound? Maybe it was Roadrunner holding them back. Either way I love Slipknot for what it is slow or heavy and I’ve been a die hard Maggot since day one and that will never change. For me everything they make turns to gold.
It's not just you. He has the absolute fucking coolest sounding laugh in his songs. It's so cynical. That paired with the marching drums just does me in. It's like the best thing ever for no reason.

11:30 you are definitely right haha, I like this song better than the two previous ones. The verses are really good. And the note at "you" in the chorus is definitely kind of off and ruin the chorus a bit, which is unfortunate because the chorus is supposed to be the peak of a song. But it's still an interesting song.
I'm looking forward to finding out what the rest of the album sounds like.

the interesting thing about this is unlike most modern metal songs where the verses are heavy and the chorus is clean vocal this is completely flipped

This is such a highlight on the record for me, and as soon as I heard it I was like I KNOW Lauren loved this one haha
I'm still trying to put toghether how I interpret the lyrics, I know Corey wrote this about his wife but I mean from a narative perspective. But in the meantime I saw a lot of people complaining about the YOUUUUU note on the chorus, but when I had finally heard it I was like really? This was the best part of the chorus I initially thought the first harsh part of the chorus was kinda clunky but it's grown on me.
I love that part at the end of the Sid solo, I have no idea what it is it might be a mix of some scratches and a reversed cymbal hit, but it sounds dangerous as hell, and that's a thought I had a lot with this record, there a lot of moments either instrumentaly or vocally that made me go "Slipknot sounds dangerous again" and I was not expecting that

this feels like the virus of life part 2, from the other view, the keg and scratching sounds extremely similar

Yeah, I didn't like that "you", either. To me, it didn't fit. I really liked the first two sections of this. I think it was the first two. At least, the first. The creep factor and lyrics. I don't think the lyrics in the rest of the song fit with that first section, though. Maybe I just don't get it. Or maybe I need to listen again. He sounds great, though. I actually liked The Dying Song more than this one, but this single has for sure grown on me.
I don't know what it is, but I'm just not really feeling the 3 new songs that much. I really, really liked WANYK, but this almost feels like a de-evolution of their sound? I don't know. I hope hearing the full album will change my mind.
This song has good moments but overall I'm not exactly a fan of it.
