Completely agree. Switched to part time and it was the best decision for my mental health and overall wellbeing.

You are so right- but that toxic culture of over-working exists in almost every field I guess😩 I work in a responsible position in a food retail company and I can relate to you 100%👍 thank you for sharing, regards from Germany, Evi

      I'm so sorry 😞 it's really hard isn't it!

Amen! The longest I have worked without a single break was 33 hours. That is not okay!! I was super junior and felt I couldn’t say no. And that just perpetuates the idea that that’s the norm.

      33 hours 😱 it's madness isn't it?!

@@SarahNicholls it should be illegal!! But it’s not. I’m in Canada and I am a Midwife working out of a busy hospital. The problem here is we don’t get the support from the nurses like the OBGYN’s get. So if we are short staffed we don’t have anyone to come and replace us. This meant I was giving one-on-one care the entire time as well as making decisions and managing the birth(Including oxytocin and epidural) it’s insane! The nurses don’t even watch our patients so we can go get some food. Needless to say, I’m on disability for nearly killing myself working like this for year. Covid left many of us an empty shel and a bunch of invisible chronic illnesses.

We needed a speech like this. Right on time!
I was on night shift in general surgery 2 nights ago and we were discussing these with other doctors. Did you hear our conversation? Ahahah :))) Really amazing timing! You're amazing! Thank you for your time, Sarah.

@@SarahNicholls You are absolutely right. No doubt it will have an effect. You mentioned imposter syndrome before, and to tell you the truth, it was the first time I'd heard of it. And then I researched it and I noticed that thousands of people was feeling it.
Although the effect is more in our profession, there are similar problems in every profession group. But it's nice to feel that at least we're not alone. :) You choose very good topics and you evaluate these with your own experiences. That's amazing..

Thank you for putting this out. It something I wish I heard a few years ago. Overwork, not setting boundaries and perfectionism on sent me to being an inpatient at a mental health facility twice. Doing much better now at a new place with a better work life balance and doing 4 day weeks.

It’s really interesting and can’t agree more. My curiosity also extends to the models of healthcare setting which keeps staff away from overwork and burn out. Could you please share if you find any or you have one in your mind?
    Thank you

@@SarahNicholls Certainly is. I've been at the office before the cleaners have finished. Have put a stop to that now.
