- Resident Evil 4 is one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed Resident Evil games ever made. Before the days of online modes such as co-op, raid and versus; the most popular and replayable mode on RE4 was the Mercenaries.
In the Mercenaries, you are tasked to defeat as many enemies as you can in an allotted time in order to receive a high score and potentially unlock the secret weapon, the Handcannon. To unlock the Handcannon you need 60,000 points on each map with each character, but a lot of players struggle with this because they don't know how the scoring system in Mercenaries works.
This video is an in-depth guide on how the scoring works, how many points each enemy is worth, and how to use this information to change your approach to each map so that 60k becomes easy to obtain.

Are you still taking requests? If so, I'd love to see some general tips & tricks for a 5* Base run, like your Castle 60k vid. I'm having trouble with Leon specifically, I can't seem to get above 3*, and that's if I stay alive!

You can check my 60k speedrun video where I try to get 60k as fast as possible with all characters on all stages.
It's worth noting you only really need to kill 30 regular enemies during bonus chests and kill the 3 JJs by stunning them with grenades and shotgun headshots, as each JJ is worth 10k each.

I've been playing RE4 for more than 15 years. From the pc port with weird buttons and no mouse support + custom 6GB graphics pack to make it look decent, to the HD version. I only tried mercenaries a few times in the beginning, but gave up ever since. Never unlocked the handcannon.
Perhaps you should check out my other guides and give it another go.
It's really hard to do as good as you when i'm on a PS4 console
What difference does the PS4 make?
@@Sarcosuchas controller is harder to aim than with a mouse and you can't turn around as fast and i can actually change my dpi mouse settings to increase the sensitivity, you can't do that on a controller, and the game doesn't actually allow you to change the sensitivity

@@storminze9909The point I was getting at is that you seemed to be implying that I play on mouse and keyboard. I don't. I play on a PS4 controller and can play any version of the game at the same level.

Unlocking the handcannon was fairly easy, but trying to reach 200k in a map isn't in my case. This one's a great help, thanks man!

200k isn't possible on Base/Island though, but it is possible on the other stages.
Ah so that is why I'm having a hard time with that map, along with Waterworld lol. I find it easier to score higher on the Castle maybe because they spawn more compared to the others. I also have to learn more about the spawns in each map to maximize scores.

He should be at least 10k for each, he is the scariest boss of mercenaries and least rewarding one

I made a list on where every item spawns for every character and every map so with this guide and that I'll be unstoppable
Now all you need to do is memorise where enemies spawn :P

I didn't enjoy using handcannon but had fun unlocking it
I just recently started playing mercenaries on the ps2 version of re4 and this video has helped out a lot. I've been using Wesker, Krauser and Hunk a lot and I managed to 69k kills on Waterworld with Wesker and then I got 61k kills with Krauser on Island. I've been trying to get 200k kills with Wesker or Krauser.

Even after i unlocked the handcannon afrer like 100+ tries ( on ps3, ps4, and finally ps5) i unlocked EVERYTHING and i still play mercenaries when i feel a good mood, to beat my scores. MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IS HUNK. Thanks for the guides!

They think giving us shiny next-generation graphics and a cast of angsty characters will make up for all the content they remove, but it does not and it cannot. RE4 doesn't need a remake, I don't think. But then I'm hardly an expert!

I have tested and made sure that one message you've delivered in this video is wrong.
You do NOT need to avoid killing bosses (such as Bellas) in a Gold Sandglass 30-second Bonus Time.
Although when you kill a boss in a bonus combo, it seems you've received only 1,000 pts instead of the boss's regular higher bonus, but as a matter of fact, you still earn the regular higher one.
Here's an example,
In the barn, I activated the 30-second Bonus Time, killed 9 ganados with the oil barrel, and then killed 2 Bellas as the 10th and 11th combo BEFORE 30 seconds run out. I received 30,700 pts in total. Below is the maths:
[300 (Villager Base) + 1,000 (Villager Bonus Time Bonus)] * 9 + [5000 (Bella Base) + 4500 (Bella Combo Bonus for 10th and 11th combo)] * 2 = 30,700
This means in this combo each Bella awarded me 4,500 pts instead of 1,000.
So the conclusion is, you do NOT need to avoid killing bosses in a Gold Sandglass Bonus Time combo, as doing so WON'T reduce your bonus.
Btw the game I used to test this was the Steam UHD one.

However, it is still advisable to avoid killing bosses during the bonus chests simply to keep kill speed up.
@@Sarcosuchas Yes, that I believe is right. Looking back at the Gold Sandglass bonus for bosses, I found that if the regular combo bonus is less than 1000 (combo less than 3), you receive 1000 instead of the boss's regular bonus. If the combo bonus is higher than 1000 (combo more than 3), you receive the boss's regular higher bonus. Don't trust the HUD, it always rolls up for 1000 pts for each kill, no matter what you kill. Trust the number of points you receive when a combo breaks, that number is always correct.
Tbh I don't think that people struggle because they don't understand score system. They struggle cuz they suck lol.
Perhaps, but most people just want the handcannon so they don't want to take the time out to learn mercenaries. So they will play in the most difficult way possible for getting 60k.
Hopefully by understanding how the scoring system works, they'll be able to at least plan things a little better.
It's worth noting that there are plenty of "good" players who struggle to get over 150k on any stage precisely because they aren't using the bonus chests/combos effectively.
What's the scoring rule on killing bosses during a 30 second bonus chest session outside of Village? Will we have points deducted in the Castle/Military Base/Waterworld stages?
The scoring system is universal for all maps.
Killing bosses on any map during the bonus chests will only give you 1,000 bonus points for their kills; whereas a 10+ combo outside the chest will net you 4,500 bonus points per boss.

@@benyang2427 The first Super Salvador can be killed during the chest if you're starting from the tower, it's pointless to try to keep him alive for the sake of 3,500 points.
Same for the first JJ generally.
The first Garrador should already be dead by the 1st chest though.
You can watch some of my high score runs to see how I tackle these cases.

@@benyang2427 The strategy is just to kill them there and then. You gain more points keeping the kill speed up than you would leaving them alive and risk getting hit.
Not 100% understand about the bonus timer. Do you mean once get the bonus timer from the chestbox, then kill mainly lower grade enemies. When that is finished, then kill the bosses?
The bonus chest grants a combo value of 1,000 to regular enemies.
However, bosses (after the 9th kill in the combo) get a bonus value of 4,500.
So killing a boss during a chest would give less points than killing the boss outside of a chest.

at 2:38 u say a big mistake the chainsaw guys is not 2 but he have 3 in the map and for the castle i dont think he really have 348 ememie since is praticly impossile to kill that much in a game i see a video who the guys he is 100% cheater make 100% headshoot 99% accuracy one hit kill all the time with the black tail who is totaly impossible to one shoot the enemie still with is upgrade in that video he shoot some zombie in the body and totaly one shoot them and he reach like 314 kill at the end then impossible to can reach more
There are only 2 Super Salvadores in Waterworld. Your inability to count them does not constitute a mistake on my part.
There are 348 enemies on Castle. I literally have a video showing this.
If you're going to be so confident, at least do yourself the favour of being right.

One question. When you counted the chainsaw sisters did you count both of them as one boss ? Or each for one boss ??
They each count as a single boss; so there's 6 of them worth 5,000 each. That's 30,000.

*Mercenaries Is One Of The Best Parts About Resident Evil*
Definitely my favourite part to Resident Evil 4; and the co-op Mercs was even more enjoyable in future installments. Though for RE5 I did favour Versus over anything else.

60,000 points is all you need with each character on each map for the handcannon.

@@ViniZiello Ada is like a HUNK/Wesker mix, so between her TMP and Rifle she should be easy.
Aiming with Krauser is tricky, but his melee moves are usually instant-kills, and remember you can use his arm to destroy anything.

Fucking loved this game since I played it on WII in 2007 for first time then i got it for PS4 & x box 1 in 2020

Golden weapons are unlocked by getting 5 stars on each of the 20 challenges

Great video. I'm surrpised more wasn't done with mercenaries in future installments. I found the 3ds version dreadful and have recently revisited this mode again on ps4 instead of the GC. Great fun!
