- SHADOW EMPIRE is a wonderfully procedural war-game where you try to build an empire on a distant dystopian planet that has fallen into anarchy. One of my all-time favourite games!

As you play hard, you do not receive taxes on income as you specified.
In fact, at the start of the game, your income will mainly be from the sale of resources, which should be avoided except for water and food. The other resources generally gain a lot of value over the rounds, it's up to you to choose the right moment.
What is not mentioned in the speech choices is that your choice will give very important additional bonuses.
LAW: +30 militia morale;
PRIVATE: +30 civilian happiness;
PUBLIC: +30 worker happiness.
Workers' salaries are the most important expense.
You pay them 0.005 while the private only gives them 0.001.
Workers' happiness starts at 61. If you decrease by 0.002 credits, they will lose 41 happiness points.
By choosing PUBLIC, they will go up to 50, which is fine and you will have earned 2 credits per 1000 workers in your capital for the whole game.
It's much more interesting than the 12 temporary morale points of your leader.
Tactics:
You scattered your units regardless of their regiment and commander's position.
You left an artillery without first line support (breakthrough rule) at the border, which means that if it is attacked, it dies.
You did not attach the artillery to a commander.
You left a lonely commander on the border as well.
I have learned SO much, and things make MUCH more sense to me, from these videos. It really amps up the fun of the game bc one understands all the different bits an pieces going on. With all the information available to a player and understandable, it makes figuring out what to do and what's important SO much easier. Ty so much for your time and thorough explanation on this Das!
Deep dive into mechanics in a structured way, awesome work!
I really do hope you add chapters to your videos.
Your style of presentation is already begging for it with how you have pretty clear and distinct sections since you typically expound on each element that crops up.
It would allow your videos to turn into a reliable resource to go back on when someone like myself might need a refresher on how a particular feature or aspect of the game functions
This reminds me of a game I played a long time ago, a mix of civilization with warhammer, you had an entire universe to play with, with ships and invasions. Each faction had their color, with a ton of different units, besides the main factions each planet had their own factions, rebels and a kind of corrupted alien menace which was hard to fight as hell. Planets were full with cities, farms, mines, ruins, and a very extensive tech tree. Sadly can't remember the name
@Hans Krieger yeah I think that's the one, amazing 😃 I never Won that game, the AI was so damn hard, they usually invaded me with dozens of stacked units around turn 100, and obliterated me in space as well.
Will follow this series. Might have to get back into the game. Thanks Das! PS - Bought a T shirt as well.
Awesome, thank you! :)
I love this game too...happy to see the new series beginning
Always enjoy watching you play Das - I may have to reinstall :) Thanks for sharing, hope all is well.
You don't need to pay for recruits/colonist unless you are needing tons of them. Giving this money to private or leaders/soldiers is more valuable.
lol i jumped into this game without reading anything hahahahahahaha
Really good episode, Das.
I'm very excited about this series!
Like your videos. Very thorough and you explain what you're doing very well.
I love this game
Interesting Setup but i cannot help as to feel you made it very easy on yourself with only one other major regime on the planet.
It is the Nemesis so has a big advantage - but I also didn't want the game to go on for too long. :)
58:27 legit stonks moment
Tariffs can be really really helpful as well if you don't just place them willy-nilly
Placing them onb the right regimes that are steadily either exporting or importing can be a great source of revenue
Im still waiting for Ships to be added.
Will be watching this series to prep for my 1st game . I have purchased it and have been playing the Caster of Magic Warlords Mod on Expert past few months so in that head space to learn this gem!
Check out Warlords! Its a great middle ground between Caster of Magic and Vanilla
Can't you use planes for recon? I wish you'd shown us what happens when you move a plane to - and over - a border.
Will a plane push back a border like ground troops do? Is there enough recon to see what's in a hex? Nearby, or do you have to be on top of it? And if you _are_ on top of an enemy unit - an animal or a ground unit - what happens? Anything?
I haven't played this for a long time, and I've never used aircraft. So how does this work, exactly?
Yes, planes are the best scouts. A scout plane stay above an hex during 3 turns and gives 35 recon at the end of its mission. You begin with 3 planes in the squadron, so, +105 recon. And if you have a good range, you can scout 2 times.
The plane reveals also the adjacents hex, but with less recon points, depending of the landscape.
Planes does'nt conquer hex.
If there are enemy units in the hex, they can shoot at the plane depending its armament. See the statistics of units.
There are many types of planes, so it is difficult to explain how does it work.
Gravity and atmosphere greatly influence the optimization of aircraft.

Thanks for the information!
This is really a great game. I'm not _at all_ a wargamer, so my interest is a little different than DasTactics, but I'm anxious to get back into the game again.
I am trying to roll a world where water and food ect has a decent value but is neither near impossible to find or abundant.
And last planet generated is great for those nice planets but you get models with values in the 80s and leaders cap II and less
Berty Silipath? 😂
Any relation to Slartibartfast?

So. I had two thoughts. One DEFINITELY more complicated than the other.
first. Diplomacy needs an overhaul. It's either borderline impossible to do anything...or you steamroll so much you never get the foreign affairs office. And sometimes your skill level in that doesn't play a role. I think it needs more variables that you can influence/control. But that requires a discussion not just a lengthy rant on youtube.
My more practical interesting idea? SLIGHT fog of war. You have a map of the world at the start...but why? Complete collapse doesn't guarantee you kept those records perfectly. So maybe have a chance that SOME parts of the map are in fog? Keep regional map well. But the further away the more likely that area/chunk/hex doesn't show anything?
How did you get each tile to show an icon for its type?

Das, are you playing with the latest beta (11.08)? It has a fix for the major AI bug.
At time of recording I am using 11.06. I didn't catch 11.07 but updated to 11.08 for the recording yesterday (episode 15ish)
I feel like 90 is the real average on the models and im only saying this based on my own experience.
I feel as though anything over 100 and under 85 is quite rare so the high 80's to mid 90's feels like the true average.
I play on tech 3 start, would this have an effect on those numbers?
1:00:05 "metal is always a hard one to get". But you've a metal mine/deposit next to your town, and you're gaining 41 each round. Is there something I'm missing?
Always start with a decent deposit of metal, but it isn't enough. Early on its fine, but many games you'll need tens/hundreds of thousands of metal, that deposit will even run out on longer games.
@@CaptainLekirk Thanks!
