Despite of the mixed reviews of the Pixel Watch, my wife and I personally enjoy the watch and after a week of use, the battery appears to last much longer than the first few days after initial setup. The thick bezel doesn't bother us as the UI and watch interface does a great job blending it around the background. The thick bezel is as easily ignored as Apple's famous notch screen design. The Fitbit integration is a welcome addition which I personally think it's better than using Google Fit which lacks lots of features compared to other competitors. Regarding the 2018 Samsung chip, it's not a problem at all since the watch works so well and runs very smooth. I think UA-cam reviewers are reviewing the watch too harsh and comparing it to other smartwatches that's been on the market for several generations. Remember, how Apple and Samsung started with theirs? Their's had several issues as well, especially the battery life.
Agreed. I'm also enjoying the watch and think it's pretty good. It's for sure not perfect but for googles first try it's not bad. Mine comes off charger at 5am and still has around 30% at 7pm when i get home from work. Looking forward to improved future versions but this one serves my needs
Do you plan on subscribing to Fitbit once the trial is over? Over a 3 yrs time, the watch is over $700. Not including extra bands.

I noticed the same thing. Mine didn't even make it through the day and even if I had charged it to full at night, in the AM I'd be down to 75%. I turned off the tilt to wake and now I can make it 2 days, game changer.
Thanks to the author for the review. This is my first smart watch ever. Therefore, I do not think that for me the battery will be such a terrible problem. The functionality of this watch is impressive. Thanks again for the review.
I bought both the Pixel 7 Pro and the Pixel Watch and I'm really enjoying both. This is my 1st smart watch since the moto 360 and I'm really enjoying it, obviously it's the first version and it'll get better with time but I'm happy with it
Same. Feels like it should be a lot cheaper though given its capabilities. A great deal getting it with the 7 pro but I would be disappointed if I had paid full price.

You should set that and get the galaxy watch 4 or 5 instead. Much better battery life and health tracking features
Man my wife and I absolutely love this watch with our pixel phones!!! battery does drain when doing extensive tasks, especially in the first few days. but we keep always on display off, and tilt to wake and touch to wake on, and adaptive brightness on and set to the lowest and that is the perfect combination for extending the battery life! also we do not start the excercise when we walk/run, we let it automatically detect the workout as this feature does not activate gps, and saves a ton of battery. just a few tips.... o7
Excellent review! I am in the market for my first smartwatch and while I really want to like the Pixel Watch, it had two deal breaking flaws:
1) I just don't have the time to keep charging it. One of the most important features to me is sleep monitoring, and if I am charging it when I get home from work for the night then I can wear the watch at night... but then where is the charge for the next day? There is no time to charge it between waking up and going to work. It's a watch with very cool features ruined by the small battery.
2) It uses the Fitbit system for health tracking, which means you get data only, but if you want an analysis of that data (where it becomes useful), fork over monthly subscription fees to Fitbit. I don't want to buy a watch and then have to pay a subscription to use all of its features.
I ended up buying a Garmin Epix Gen 2. It is a meh in terms of the "smartwatch" but one of the best health tracking and training watches out there, if not the best. My thought is: I already have a phone, give me something the phone can't do. It's also extremally durable and a single charge lasts for about 2 weeks.
Not every smart watch should be massive. I'm grateful to finally get one that has power that isn't micro but nods to sleek design.

Do you get targets with pixel watch like distance, pace target zone, time target and heart rate target zones while running ?
Great review Adam. I haven't bought the Pixel just yet, as I've already got the Fossil Gen 6, which runs the Google OS. A great watch, which does everything I need it to. On the strength of this review, I reckon I'll wait until Pixel releases a new and better version of the watch 😊

Me personally, if I get the pixel watch, the first thing I'll do is turn off the always on display and the lift to wake options. In my experience that extends battery life quite noticeably. I just got my Pixel 7 yesterday and this watch will go nicely with it.
The default on mine had always on turned off.
Isnt it pointless to get a smart watch if you have to turn everything off to use it?

At 00:23 you are showing the watch with the phone, sunglasses and some cool music in the background ... that is what I want to see .. how this watch wears ... how does it make me look cool :)

Thanks for your excellent review, I was very tempted, but the battery life kills it for me, with enough devices to charge daily, I want to be able to rely on my watch to be running for a long time. 18-24h is not good enough at all. I already am in the habit of turning off AOD and the wake-up with movement option on my Fitbit, even if the battery is already amazingly long even when on all the time. Why on earth didn't Google manage to provide a bigger battery?! What a letdown.
I'm having issues with the call quality. If you go above 50 percent the call sound becomes horrible with static and crackling noises..I've seen where others have the same issue. Hopefully this will be corrected with a update. Because it sounds awful.
For me it was a no brainer. Once they offered it as a pre-order incentive, got the LTE version and I absolutely love it. I work from home so a quick battery top up in the morning is not an issue for me after tracking my sleeping
Same here and I'm impressed with what Google Fit will now do. I'm probably going to ditch the Fitbit app. The LTE works great and the watch is much more comfortable than my Garmin Solar Instinct.... Battery life kind of sucks compared to the solar though but I can deal with that.

The whole charging it every night is why I went to garmin smart watches. Currently have the fenix 7x sapphire solar and I love it- 26 days of battery life with o2 sensor on only at night and other functions are at full capacity. If I turn o2 on all the time I get 16 days
Nice real look at this watch. Can I install Google fit and NOT the Fitbit? I would use this for step tracking but that’s about it. Also, can you disable the always tracking heart rate? That seems to be a big battery waster. Agree, there should be 2 sizes. That at 41mm it’s too small and thus a small battery.

Best watch over used for sleep tracking because of its size. I got mine for free with the pixel 7 Pro. I hate AOD on smart watches so turn that off and have very little issue with battery life. Plus it charges really quickly. I may exchange it for a Samsung Pro watch but not sure. I really like the size and Google assistant on my watch. Works a treat
The display is really cool. I like the asthetic of it. But for the price it's not even in the smart watch race yet. A bigger display option I'd use it for a backup to my Galaxy 5

I have the galaxy watch 4 classic. after numerous updates it got better. I assume being the watch was just released it will improve with updates. My galaxy watch woulld over heat, battery life wasn't great and often lil laggy. Over a year the battery life has improved, i haven't had the overheating issue in a few months it is also a lil smoother. google will improve it
Am I right thinking that fitbit will be available on the wider google fit platform?
I'm probably going to dump the Fitbit app and just use Google Fit. With the 7 Pro and the watch both having the fit app installed it greatly expanded..

What you said about vibration is so true. A good vibration motor is extremely important to me, and the pixel 7 has a fantastic one
When i got the Pixel 7 pro.. the haptics are what where the most striking change from my p40 pro i noticed right off the get go. Really makes the phone feel more premium.
The Pixel watch is easily the best wearable experience outside of the Apple watch, and it's not even close. Battery life could be better and the screen could be bigger, but both are adequate for my use. Plus the thing looks fantastic and is just so damn comfortable. (Samsung, you have a lot of work to do on that front.)
I use a Huawei Watch GT2 that cost half the price of the Pixel Watch. It is bigger with less bezels, lasts around 10-days with average use. Has all the features I need, connecting with my Pixel 6P. It came with two quality straps and is miles better than the Pixel Watch which is now in a drawer. Huawei are the tech and value Kings and it is a shame politics has got in their way to adding more competition to the smart device market. Anyway, in the UK we have a local sales centre, so it is great.

turned the „display always on“ off for the night and then got away with charging once a day. We all tick differently I guess but things will become even better when we stop checking the watch ever so often because it is still a new gadget for us. Mileage will vary for everyone.
I was excited when I heard those rumors about the free watch with the phone, but the most I've ever seen is a $200 credit or with Verizon. I got $100 off of the pixel buds Pro making it only $99. But nothing free! And I'm in the US.
Verizon is running that deal now. It’s 100% free but broken in 36 months of credit to your account.
I have a feeling that in 12 or so months there will be a successor to the Pixel Watch and every complaint & concern will have been addressed. I can wait that long.
I'm just so happy with my fit bit sense 2. It's not really a smart watch but it does really well track my health stuff with a 6 day batterie and I just don't have to thing aboute it.
I just ran some calculations: If the watch was 44mm, 2mm bigger than the Galaxy Watch 6, the battery could have a higher mAh capacity than the Galaxy Watch 5, but still only add about 2.2 hours more life. Size isn't the watch's problem as much as it's an efficiency problem. Google needs to spend a hell of a lot more time on refinement.
*I wish it was 50$ cheaper & slightly bigger, but overall I like it. With AOD enabled (on the 5G version) I'm easily getting through the day (charging overnight), losing 3-5%/hr without using either the fitness tracking Watch Face complications or sleep tracking features.*
I did the same thing with all of my previous cellular-connected Wear devices & had similar battery life.

you can't actually use the Google Fit app, if you install it, it essentially tells you "sorry but no".
I’d get it for around 100 bucks, but three is too high for a watch which such a short battery life. Getting it as a bonus is a good move on Google’s part.
Love the design but Running on just Bluetooth does not even get 17 hours with light use. Sleep training is terrible it only start recording sleep between 1 to 3 hours after I have fallen asleep.
One of the most underrated tech reviewers , but getting back to the pixel watch I agree with everything he said , but he didn't mention the most frustrating thing and that's you can't charge your watch on the back of the pixel 7

It has been confirmed by Google that this is only possible to charge via the provided puck. I partially think this is due to the watch being first designed and built 4 years ago before this was a thing.

what are the options for music on this watch? I have Fitbit sense and Fitbit announced that Pandora and Deezer will no longer be supported after march 31 2023. I have to listen to my music when I go to the gym and I don't want to have to carry my phone during my workouts...

That Pixel 7 pre-order deal has ended, and in any case, the watches went out of stock well before the end of the deal. So paying £400 for the LTE version is not good value, quite the opposite, and really only diehard Google fans should even think about spending that much.
For me I still think the best designed watch was the moto 360 but for the best android watch now it has to be the tic watch 3. When I heard Google making one I was like maybe it will be the device that replaces my tic watch but definitely a nope for me. Maybe next year.

Woke up looking for my pixel watch .it was already on my arm . That's how light and comfortable it is . I have 3 apple watches all different series and I usually take off before or during sleep .so uncomfortable . Google won in that category to me
I deactivated wake up on turn wirst and have aod on. After 12 hours still 60 % left. Try it out.
I got a Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel Buds Pro, and Pixel Watch all on launch day and unfortunately the Watch went back. As beautiful as it is, the size, battery life, and tacked on Fitbit (which a lot requires a paid subscription) focus rather than embracing Google Fit turned me off
Google fit has changed radically at least when you are using it installed on both the watch and the phone. Works much better, a lot more information. I'll probably dump the Fitbit app
My question is does it work with Microsoft applications? My main email is MS Outlook, my main collaboration tool is MS Teams; I need the watch to work with those, to give me notifications from those. I bought an early android watch running WearOS, and it did not allow notifications from MS Outlook. That is just not acceptable for a smart watch which I would want to keep me in touch with work all day. The fitbit, health things are nice, but they would be typically used (by me at least) for minutes a day, were as work is there 5 days a week 8 hours a day.
Ms outlook is available for the latest wear os devices to run on the watch itself. For teams you should be enable to notifications so that you could get those on watch with the ability to reply.
I wish it was bigger. It is so tiny that even if I would be ready to accept the small screen and battery - it just looks ridiculous on my wrist

Seems like this is very close to the Galaxy watch. I hate the fact that there is very minimal third party app integration like the Apple watch. Connectivity like this is key for me, not just integration with the stock apps on the Pixel or Samsung. Disappointing...
So how is the sound. Say someone calls and you answer it on the watch. I had the fossil and sent it back. Yes i had the sound all the way up but it was way low. Anyone chime in and tell me how the sound quality is or is everyone just using ear buds to talk lol
Not everyone sleeps with their smartwatch on. Battery without always-on screen and in this use case should be fine, shouldn't it?

great video. returned my LTE model unopened (unfortunately!!). will wait for v2, hoping for bigger model / battery and if we're lucky and updated processor that's more power efficient. just those would do wonders, and give google time to enable O2, add a temp sensor (I hope) and otherwise get the software on par with the sense 1 which I'd like to replace at the right time. hoping google stays committed!

I get easily two days out of the watch. I don’t use Fitbit. No sleep tracking. It’s not recommend to wear a smartwatch at night. According to sleep experts

Getting about 2 days too, Sleep tracking enabled, using Fitbit, tilt to wake.. it took a few charges, at the beginning the battery life really sucked. Same for the P7 Pro, after a few charges everything settled. Really happy with the battery life now
Its amazing how these manufacturers dont realize a 24 hour battery life is a deal breaker. There's lots of watches out there which last 7-10 days. At least make it last around 3 days. But 24 hours? Nope.. sorry i dont need yet another device i have to worry about charging every day.
Battery is one of the biggest problems android watches have since long lime and until now they couldn't find a way to fix this problem.

Re size - women and other people with little wrists have had to wait YEARS for smart watches that don't look humongous on our wrists so Google going for small first benefits all of us.
Just got mine today after upgrading my phone (Huawei P30 pro) to the pixel 7 pro. The watch is faulty. Powers on but the screen is blank and as for the phone, it's garbage. Not a patch on the Huawei. Only reason I got the phone is the wife wanted the free watch. Hating everything about Google at the moment.
Google definitely should've been ahead of the smart watch game then again I always feel like Google waits too long when it comes to brands that blow up then again you usually need Google for anything you use now and days

People are not really making good comparison... A similar mm Apple watch series 7/8 (not ultra) has just as much pathetic battery life as the pixel watch... But somehow people don't really see a problem with it 🤷. And that's after Apple had frigging 8 generations to work out the kinks.

Google should not be late to the party for smartwatches but the reality is many watches perform better and do practically the same functions at a cheaper price. Battery life in particular.

They always have the dumbest most obvious flaws that a 5 year old could point out and would make a product 10 times more appealing yet no one over there thought of it? 😅
I look at design first, size of watch (big hands would make this look like a ladies watch), if I can add metal straps (i live in a humid area and anything other than metal ends up itching my skin like crazy), and last but not least, actually one of the most important features is damn battery life.
So just get a Fitbit?? 🤔

The pixel watch only has two issues One the call speaker sucks. Two everybody trying to compare this watch to the Apple watch ultra like they're literally equivalent devices!
I bought some Casio Proteks that are atomic sync'd and solar charged, maintenance free forever, grab them and go and the time is always right within plus minus 5 seconds. My Huawei smart watch was useless, and now Android Wear is dead and nothing google on it works anymore... the play store, the apps, the mail, nothing. The question is, what is the entire world suppose to do with their dead useless Android Wear watches. If you create a product, you should support it forever, esp. if the world adopts it as an operating system.
I wouldn't touch a Pixel watch with a ten foot pole now.
Get yourself a $15 Casio from Walmart, it has a battery life of 15 years and a quartz accuracy of plus minus 15 seconds every month. The display is always on, it's always ready for you to grab off the night stand, and it always does what it's suppose to... tells time... and just works.

What is it with big watches. They get knocked far more, and was a time a big watch was a turn off and claimed to bulky. Phones went the same way, the smart phone came out and people said to big, so went smaller for a time. now big phones are in. All fashions do is cycle, will be a time when once again the big watch goes out of fashion. The moral of the story does not even matter. It maybe small, but have to admit its the nicest looking watch. The pixel 2 is better.

You can get it with the new pixel pro 8 for free, again FREE. Plus it’s just a watch, so just use it like one.
lol it’s just the Samsung Galaxy active 2, just refitted with a crown. Hence, having the Samsung chip 😅 plus the wear app Samsung partnership last year.
Sounds no better than my Galaxy Watch 4, I see no reason to upgrade to a new smart watch for at least a few more gens
