I honestly would like to hear why he said that. Distortion can actually sound pretty cool if used subtle on Vocals (in my opinion at least) ^^
@@frodo3556 I think he doesn't like when people use distortion just to mask up the fact that they can't scream. If you are able to scream well and use it as an effect to enhance the performance, I think it creates some great soundscapes! Have you checked our tutorial on Filosofem vocals?

I'd be interested in a tutorial for vocals like Beherit. Drawing Down the Moon is so interesting to me, and it's a very unique style, at least to me. That would be so cool!

Good job, man. I noticed you use the same mixing headphones as mine ones. I really liked the part where you just troll people that "screams" like a cheerleader, I always wondered why they do not search for another singer or just learn how to fu**ing SCREAM. Anyway, have you ever tried the plugin by Joey Sturgis "Gain Reduction" as a vocal compressor? It's awesome and made for screaming vocals in particular, I always use it in my mixes. Keep the good work man

I actually put distortion and/or fuzz pedals on my vocals and it makes it better
We just scream directly into a phone and add light reverb. Works for us
some slight distortion on actual black metal vocals can sound awesome as fuck

i really hate making self promotion, but i would love to hear a feedback from you from my latest song. I tell you this because it is the first time i am happy with the sound and the vocals itself AND Your video on making black metal vocals encouraged me trying to sing that style. If you're not recording with Fischer Price gear, you're not TRV3 !
Using a distortion on your vocals can sound great if you don't abuse it. Slight distortion adds saturation, color to your vocals, even pop, rap artists use distortion on their vocals.
saturation exists as an individual effect. and rap isn't a good criterion for vocal production..
@@zimorog Yeah but saturation is just basically distortion lol and rap is a good criterion in my opinion because rappers have huge production value and their songs are being mixed/mastered by really good producers
@@furkna5797 ofc they have good production cuz a lot of them can't sing. their vocals need tons of effects. even distortion lol. And just opened my native pack of (saturation included) and any effect can be turned into distortion if you crank it lol.

Could you please clear one thing up, the darkthrone album under the funeral moon was recorded with one guitar, so there is only one guitar track, and bass, so does it mean that they have the whole song in the middle, and no first guitar 30 to the left and the second to the right, and blahblah it means that this album is in mono?
yup haha, that was a really weird thing for me too because the album before (blaze) and after (hunger) were recorded with 2 guitars (studio)

I am a bit confused, could you possibly give your advice, Im writing the lyrics for the song, and i want to combine some piece of my lyrics with the poem of Tarjei Vesaas and i dont know if this is okey, my friends say that this is not right and that i should separate it into different songs, but i think that it sounds decent, how do you think? Maybe it is a bad idea in general to combine lyrics....

Levels? Gain reduced? What is this nonsense... Only good advice here: don't use distortion, but for the rest your vocals always need to hit the red in the levels, guitars needs to be louder than the vocals and the vocals have to be heard even over a guitar without a mic, but cool video tho
i've seen a lot of tutorials, read a lot of articles.. and i know only 20% about mixing in my opinion. But this is the first time i hear about this method.
@@zimorog yeah, I hope it's the first time you hear about this, cause my method is the worst possible lmao, don't worry I wasn't really serious, but what I said is definitely how I do it, but your technique is really good actually, I think, just too professional for me (and maybe for some other Raw BM fans out there also)
